PoliticsUBA Burnt And Burgled In Akwa Ibom Over Naira Scarcity (Video) by Benesis(op): 10:43pm On Feb 17, 2023

Both the UBA and Access banks in the commercial town were burnt,as people protested the scarcity of the new notes and inability to use the old ones.
CrimeRe: Naira Scarcity: 3 Banks Burnt In Akwa Ibom State. by Benesis(op):
Nigeria has a population of over 250 million people.
I believe it's foolhardy that a politician can be known to have illicit funds, and instead of agencies like, Police, ICPC, EFCC, NDLEAD, DSS, etc all coming together to raid the person's hideout, or to trace where these stockpiles of money are kept.

Everyone is made to suffer and people's business are either destroyed or put on hold, because, the said person is god, and you can only burn everywhere to incapacitate him.

So why do they Pay the EFCC,or DSS,or ICPC,if they are so useless and can't trace big cash movements...and then prosecute offenders.
CrimeNaira Scarcity: 3 Banks Burnt In Akwa Ibom State. by Benesis(op): 10:33pm On Feb 17, 2023
Violence broke out in Oron LGA of Akwa ibom state over the scarcity of the new notes as some residents took to protesting over the scarcity of the new notes, which heavily affected businesses.

The rampaging youths first pounded on The United Bank of Africa branch there, before moving on to burn and vandalize both Access bank and First Bank.

Protesters in the states then went on to tell all shops not collecting old notes to close down as most got vandalized.
The heat subsided with news of the CBN policy that banks should start collecting the old notes back, but with the CBN rescinding on the statement.
One can only pray that violence does not break out again over the weekend

PoliticsIs The President Higher Than The Supreme Court ? by Benesis(op): 7:34am On Feb 17, 2023
It's great when we are so particular and want to kill a rat, and in the height of our emotion, we set fire to the whole house, and declare it a mission accomplished, the moment the feel the rat is incapacitated.
It's at night thant we realize what we did.

What if the court declared a governor as having won and the president comes on tv and declares something contrary ?

What if the next President comes and then rides on the Precedent, and then contravenes every declaration of the supreme court ?

So what if in Imo, Zamfara, Bayelsa, the supreme court gave judgement and the governor's came on broadcast and gave something contrary ?

It's shameful that some lawyers are in support of this, the constitution is the grundnorm and it gives the supreme court final decision above every other body, except an enacted law.

But it's ok and find, finally politicians can't buy votes, it's ok even if we can't buy food either, and can't move out of the house as well. It's ok even when election is a week from now, we will all suffer, so far the rat is dead.

Papichulostunne:
Simply put..

It defeats the purpose of this policy if old currency can still be paid to buy votes and all they need to do is take it to the bank to change it even 6 months from now.
Is there a politician that is bigger than than the whole 250+ million people in Nigeria ?

If he has cash held up in Nigeria, why can't the government break in there and take out the cash.. why use the whole Nigerian population as collateral damage... So as to take out one person ?

People are really suffering.. people can't do business again out of fear
PoliticsRe: "Old Notes Will Still Be Accepted After Deadline" Simply Explained by Benesis(op): 11:34pm On Jan 31, 2023
Truth is For Emefiele to totally make it that the old notes become paper, and totally worthles, he needs to first amend the CBN Act.

Cameroon still accepts the money it did changed as way back as possible, the US dollars has been changed as well over the years, but then the old ones are still in circulation.
It's ok to want to get at a particular candidate.. but should it be at the detriment of a whole country with 250+ million people ?

Nigerians are very angry already, with fuel sold as high as 400naira in oron here, no light, high cost of living, and the fact that the money they took freely to bank they now have to pay POS people 5k for 100k to witdraw.

Money that rich people and the political class never have to pay for because the very places they patronize will always receive bank transfers, and you want go transfer money to buy 5 cups of garri suger and groundnut at mama nkechi kiosk?
Rich people HOLD cripto politicians have their currencies in dollars. It's only business people mostly and people who do exchange that mostly keep cash to aid business transactions with the locals who have no, or can't operate bank accounts.

By next month end, the election will be over, but a dented economy will take months to repair.

If a politician is the problem, stop being a coward,go all out at him, stop using the whole 250+million people as bait to get back at a politician or some politician.. peace

Section 20 of the CBN Act states clearly that the Head of the CBN after talks withe president can issue in new notes and call back old notes.

Once a note has be unveiled as the new note,it becomes a legal tender, a medium by which all within the country must give and accept as means of payment.
Failure to pay with it or not accept it from a person paying with it, can be penalized.
However once it ceases to be a legal tender, one can now chose to not accept it as a medium of payment without fear.

By virtue of Section 20(3) of the Acts, the CBN is mandated to always collect the old notes after expiration and stile redeem with the same value.
Thus even after a year, so far it's not counterfeit, one can always take an old money to the bank and can sue the bank under the section for not collecting the old money and redeeming it at same value.
However, a clause in the section has it that, once the currency is mutilated that the bank has the discretion to now accept it or not.

Thus from now to 10th, one can actually sue anyone and as well be sued for not accepting the current legal tender as means of payment.. however, after the expiration of the period. Only the banks and the CBN can now be sued for none acceptance of the old currencies, as the Section 20(3) of the CBN Act,mandates the bank to always accept and honor back with equal value of the new currency in circulation at all time.

Save that the Act gets amended, this is the position of the Law and unfavourable it might seem to us now, but that's our law for now.

PoliticsRe: Banks Will Continue To Accept Old Naira Notes After The February 10 Deadline CB by Benesis(op): 10:40pm On Jan 31, 2023
Actually it's in the CBN Act, that banks will always accept the old currencies at all times after the expiration of the the date set out.

By legal tender, it means that it is generally accepted as a medium of exchange and within the time it is legal tender one can sue and be sued for non acceptance. But once it ceases to be a legal tender, one can reject it as a medium of exchange.

Banks will continue to accept old naira notes after the February 10 deadline —CBN

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has assured that the value of old Naira notes of 200, 500 and 1,000 will still be redeemed even after they have ceased to be legal tender by February 10 deadline.

The main thing CBN should have done is to provide alternative to what the people have been using, I sent someone money last Sunday and I am waiting for the compulsory 3days wait to get a refund..
Imagine it was my last cash n that I had someone in the hospital...
We need to stop thinking of this harming politicians and look at businesses that have to be on hold because of lack of the new or old currency.

Hw do u pay peasant people you bring to your farm or bricklayers you bring to work your building project via transfer.

MTN momo and other quick payment stuff should hv been pushing as alternative for now.. but omoh, Nigeria go sone off

Buhari is allowing himself to be used by Emefiele
Sooner than later one bank will be burnt down.
People can't do their transactions, ATM is not dispensing cash, and banks can't dispense too.
You try bank transfer and a single transfer will take hours to days.
All it will take is a single incidence to spark the outrage and even the election which is the reason for all this hardship won't hold.

Nigerians are on the edge... Fuel crisis, high cost of things and now the fact that you can't even get cash... It's just a single incidence of a customer that will be angry in the bank and security men there not dealing with it well... And boom.. the real revolution we had been talking about

PoliticsRe: Osun Election: How PDP, APC, Accord, Labor Party And SDP Fared by Benesis: 9:27am On Jul 17, 2022
A tragedy is termed as the best form of writing because after loosing one takes out time to think of whqt and what went wrong, and then works on fixing them.

Adeleke lost the last time, and tok out time to get a certificate and then cement his popularity.

Oyetola won, and basked in the winning for four years and the bigger than life feeling he got made him go to war with his Gafer.

With the Win, PDP will undermine the importance of Wike, wereas APC will see the importance of spreading their tentacles and not counting on the masive support of the South west.

In all PDP should not let the win get into their heads as Adeleke is a very popular candidate, LP should see this as a reason to build bridges and get political topshots with grassroot supports to buy the dream. And APC can now learn to not rely on the vote buying apparatus they may plan, but devise means on selling foresight and antecedents of their candidate.

Osun was interesting, 2023 will be more interesting..Over and out
