nairalanda1:Does China have more crude oil than Nigeria? How come they have up to 30 refineries yet Nigeria that happens to be one of the leading oil producing countries have zero refinery? |
AlphaTaikun: You are misleading the readers here with some of your information especially about the current President 'Bola Tinubu's role. First off, the highly IRRESPONSIBLE and corrupt military dictatorships under Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha destroyed the refineries by NOT releasing the needed funds to carry out the regular Turn Around Maintenances (TAM) which is done every two years! Then especially the notoriously corrupt Sani Abacha and his civilian and military cronies became multimillionaires overnight by importing petroleum products after destroying the refineries back in the 1990s. Once Turn Around Maintenances are NOT done, the refineries get damaged due to the sensitive nature of the fractional distillation columns. During the entire PDP years in power, the refineries still weren't working optimally due to the damage done due to lack of TAM. Goodluck Jonathan promised that 2 Greenfield Refineries would be constructed during the Occupy Nigeria anti-fuel subsidy protests of 2011 but as of 2014 when he left, NOTHING had been constructed. With due respect, you wasted your time with this epistles just to defend Tinubu but ended up justifying my stance! You went memory lane to blame past presidents and parties for not fixing or building a single refinery and yet you forgot presidents are elected to fix a problem not to complain about the inaction of the predecessors! So wny did Buhari under apc not fix or even build a single refinery yet saudi arabia built two refineries during that regime? why did Tinubu who was part of Buhari administration not attempt to even start building a refinery when it was obvious that we needed one knowing that a private own refinery like dangote is only in business? All i see here are as usual excuses for the incompetence of your paymaster! Simple! AlphaTaikun: Second, the Dangote Petrochemical Refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State came into existence due to the strong influence of the then Governor 'Bola Tinubu who ensured that he gave huge tracts of land. This is why when Dangote Petrochemical Refinery started operations, Aliko Dangote thanked President 'Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and past Lagos State Governors from Babatunde Raji-Fashola to Akinwunmi Ambode for making Dangote Petrochemical Refinery possible. Even the Lekki Deep Sea Port in Ibeju-Lekki was FIRST initiated by the then Governor 'Bola Tinubu as a PPP or Public-Private partnership with Tolarams Group as part of the "Lagos Master Plan."Has the so called influence yielded dividends to Nigeria in terms of cheaper PMS or LPG? Do you now purchase cheaper PMS now in lagos state? Let Tinubu also use his so called influence to build refineries as the minister of petroleum. Influence must be cascaded to the masses not rotated around his friends! AlphaTaikun: Third, your FALSE accusations that Tinubu (who ONLY came into office in May 2023) spent billions of USD to repair two refineries is another disinformation from you. The repair of the refineries is a spill over from past PDP and Buhari-led APC administrations and since governance is a continuum, Tinubu had to take over by continuing to oversee the activities in that ecosystem. Plans are on to privatize all the refineries which is the BEST thing to do. Government has shown from time that it's NOT the best manager of things like this. Being a technocrat and former Senior Treasurer with Mobil Nigeria (now ExxonMobil), Tinubu has done a lot to position the oil and gas sector with the permission given for the exploration of more oil wells in the South West (Ogun, Ondo, Lagos and other offshore areas in the Niger Delta with the aim of boosting more crude oil production) and peace has been experienced in the oil producing areas of the Niger Delta with many oil wells producing onshore and offshore even though the The LNG project is proof that private sector-led initiatives are the best for any country. On the contrary, TAM was done 2021 under the apc led administration under Buhari of which Tinubu was part of! So i was right to say this is all on the apc led administration. Now to your highlighted, have the refineries been fixed under his watch as petroleum minister? So after spending billions of dollars, the two refineries are no longer functioning and no plans are in place to build a new one yet you dont want me to blame Tinubu? Lastly, the LNG project is a PPP arrangement not fully private owned! [quote author=AlphaTaikun post=138714917] External reserves under President 'Bola Tinubu are the highest in 10 years as well which is highly commendable of this administration. The highly embarrassing backlog of hard currencies of over 1 billion USD trapped in Nigeria and owed to foreign airlines by the CBN have been paid due to the financial prudence of the government. Airlines normally repatriate the proceeds of tickets sold and those proceeds could NOT be sent back to their countries but got trapped.Stop going off tangent! We are not here to talk about external reserves that have no bearing whatsoever on the standard of living on the citizens of the country! Bragging about External reserves is akin to a man with billions in his account but his wife and kids are living in poverty. AlphaTaikun: Most successful refineries worldwide are built by the private sector NOT the government. This is why former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he was in power in the 2000s invited the big multinational oil and gas companies to build refineries in Nigeria like they did in their home countries but they developed a cold feet because of the insecurities in the Niger Delta occasioned by pipeline vandalisms leading to losses in income. When you are making your assertions, try to back it with facts! There are more than 100 refineries in America with 10% being government owned! This creates competition that drives down the price of PMS and other products! If the FG had been intentional, they would have built atleast two refineries and made a PPP agreement which is what was done in LNG. 10% of refineries in |
This is all on the apc led federal government. Buhari had 8 solid years to build atleast 2 refineries that would have been serving nigerians but they were all waiting for dangote! Tinubu used billions of dollars to repair two refineries which turned out to be a scam and a channel for embezzlement! Interestingly,Saudi arabia during the regime of Buhari, built two new refineries! In 2026,we have no business importing or depending on the monopoly of dangote refineries! Unfortunately, its not dangote's fault as most of the crude oil he gets are imported! |
DissTroy:There is nothing wrong with state policing as this has been effective in developed countries! The problem arises when proper and unambiguous frameworks are not setup to curb the excessiveness of unruly police officers! This will ultimately lead to impunity! |
This is what happens when you put up a security platform without proper safeguards. With the preparation of state policing framework on the horizon, important questions must be raised in order to curtail these excessiveness.... Were these recruits screened for criminal records and community reputation? What punishment exists for commanders who misuse use force? Who are these operatives answerable to? Now let me say this...I am not against state policing as this should have been implemented since yesterday! However, proper and unambiguous safeguards should be spelt out to ensure enforcement but civility while carrying out their responsibilities to avoid the excessiveness and recklessness of this security outfit! |
ComingKing:That dopamine will be his end! |
I have zero sympathy for such men! Funds that could have been used to invest in skills that will bring him millions, he used it to invest in the life of a lady who may likely not want to have him as a boyfriend let alone a husband! Secondly, this is to ladies who accept assistance from a guy....If you know you will not have a future with him, don't accept his gifts! |
Throwback:Every agency of government using their platform to pursue IGR through adverts and programmes will account for every naira by sending the funds realized to the same government that you are defending! Those working for the FG and incharge of the states won't cater for the wellbeing of staffs and make provision for the needed equipments but they will still expect the staffers to generate IGR! How will that be possible when the little they manage to generate is taken from them? |
PulaPower:Really? You mean by denying every word or quote he said about your paymaster only to be refuted by the same journalist? Medhi asked 3 times if Tinubu had setup a militia according to buwala, and he denied only to be given his quote verbatim🤣🤣 He really tried but failed😀 |
I watched the interview and I also watched a edited version where his denial was refuted with video evidence! However,I got so heart broken when medhi asked why buguda who embezzled funds during the Sabi abacha regime was made minister of budget despite Tinubu claiming he was fighting corruption! |
The last administration and the present one had a simple duty: Ensure the transparency of NNPC and fix our refineries or better still build a new one! None unfortunately had been done which is an indictment on a party that claimed in 2015 that they were bringing change. A newly built or fixed refineries would have ensured Nigerians didn't feel the consequential burden of increased crude oil price due to the war at Iran. But as usual,we have back to back administrations that have abandoned Nigerians to their fate. This increase will most likely inflate the prices of goods and services as Transport cost will increase! All because we have an insensitive administration that care less for the people and more for politics! With all that is happening, what will Tinubu and his incompetent gang of thieves use in campaigning because the overflogged slogan of blaming PDP will no longer work. |
Shame nor gree am leave apc after being politically sucker punched into oblivion! |
If only FG had properly fixed our local refineries we wont be having all these! |
anonimi:Who is in charge of the state electoral commission? If you can answer that question then you will know what I am saying! |
Inside FCT oh |
This is an indictment on so many agencies! Firstly,DSS The national assembly and the presidency for appointing a minister who had a questionable certificate! Where are the data boys who supported Nnaji? Well why am I even surprised? Don't we currently have a president who qualication clearly shows he graduated from a secondary school that was established 5 years later? |
Parachoko:It's because our corrupt and docile national assembly members refused to amend the important clauses which gives LGA chairmen full autonomy to pilot the affairs of their domain! |
I wish primary health care all over the country will have this standard or more in every community! Unfortunately,we have an incompetent administration at aso rock where only 36million have been disbursed from last year health budget! However, most of our governors including the president will travel out side the country for a normal muscle pull! |
maasoap:Do you think he cares about that? As long as he gets his monthly stipends,he doesn't care if naija burns! |
Incompetence is an understatement! Is there anything this government have done that have favoured the masses! They claim inflation rate is reducing yet basic food prices increase everyday They say Tinubu is winning war against insecurity yet bandits and terrorists roam freely claiming communities in and around Nigeria. They say power has improved yet just recently power generation dropped meaning some parts of the country are without power.this is happening in 2026! Someone once said if they explain naija for you and you understand, the person probably didn't explain it well! |
I just hope while drafting an amendment to the constitution, the national assembly committee will ensure that unambiguous clauses will protect the independence of the state police! Any law that gives state governors unlimited control over the state police is a recipe for disaster! |
PulaPower:They are all under the control of FG State police becomes official when there is an amendment in that section of the constitution that removes policing from the exclusive to concurrent list! Meaning policing in states is no longer under the control of the FG but now devolved or decentralized to states! |
Silent night,holy night....... ![]() |
Ofunaofu:I was about to say the same thing! Thanks for calling her out! Most of the Mods on NL are heavily bias and tilted/affiliated to a particular group/party! |
Baba don fold |
Most of the folks here protesting should show working by going there to fight! Talk is cheap! |
Your mother taught you very well! |
Ojuntana:What do you expect from a party that hires clowns as their ambassadors? |
Only an unpopular party tries to pull down opposition billboards! |
Data boys don change mouth after this news ![]() I thought they said Obi paid someone to shoot at the gates and cars ![]() See how apc have turned this young man who should be doing great exploits into a glorified zoombie! |
Glorified simp |
He noticed a little of it from his wife but the yelling from her mother towards her father further confirmed his fears! |
