Politics / Shut Up, PDP Governors Lavished State Funds On You – Tuface Told by BenueBlog(f): 2:41pm On May 20, 2015
Following comments made by Tuface Idibia that the PDP had done nothing in the last 16 years, a social media commentator, Mr Eric Amodu has taken a swipe at his fellow Idoma kinsman saying the music super star lacked the moral ground to criticise the PDP since he too was a beneficiary of their perfidious rule.

His comments below:

Too bad you threw the bomb at yourself on this. You are my friend but the truth must be told.

Question 1. Name a single soul you’ ve ever helped?
Question 2. Why did your fellow childhood friends deserted you?
Question 3. What have you given back to the society that made u?

Infact lets go deeper

First of all, OJB produced you and brought you to limelight and even gave you a song for free without you paying a dime. But you threw your back at him when the world were rallying round to save his life. Not even a dime from you when lesser musicians gave their widows mite.

No any Idoma sons could say he’s on your scholarship list yet you have the mouth to talk back at the people that you helped in eating from their states’ funds.

You ate the resources meant for Benue State during Akume days in PDP as a governor when he bought you a Camry.

How about Donald Duke when he was the PDP governor of cross Rivers State? He lavished the state resources for you and still paid 20 million naira just to reunite the plantation boiz yet you have the guts to say PDP did nothing? Better still, you for reject all the money.

Akwa-Ibom state governor under the PDP-led government lavished the money meant for the state to sponsor your wedding. Why didn’t you kick against it when he gave you eight jeeps and sponsored several people to Dubai just to attend your wedding?

Jolly Nyame wasted th state resources on you and you practically abandoned Lagos for Taraba just because you began to taste the juicy side of unmerited resources from government coffers.

Don’t forget… when you sang ” I de feel like so so so and so person… because you de spend for me.” Over 70% of the names you mentioned were PDP people you joined in eating away the future of their states.

Brother man, sorry to say this… you don’t even stand the moral ground where conscience speaks to talk about PDP.

I would love Banky W, the little Davido that just started, Ice Prince, Don Jazzy and so many others to talk because they don’t dine with the PDP and their states’ funds yet they’ve given a whole lot to the society.

On your wedding day, you took away the pleasure of the eyes from Nigerians to Dubai so that dem no go fit benefit even small thing from you. Stingy life.

Oyine, abeg le klachi fa.

Politics / How Suswam Betrayed Me – Benue Gov-elect, Dr Ortom by BenueBlog(f): 2:09pm On May 10, 2015
Benue state Governor-elect, Dr Samuel Ortom today looked back into his relationship with governor of Benue state, Dr Gabriel Suswam and revealed how the outgoing governor betrayed him.

Ortom stated this today when he played host to APC leaders and members from Gboko local government who paid him solidarity visit.

Gboko local government returned the highest votes for the APC governorship candidate in the April 11th elections, polling 55,002.
The governor-elect who was addressing party members from Gboko revealed that even after playing a key role in the emergence of Suswam as the governor of Benue state in 2007, the outgoing governor set out “deliberately to undermine my success as the governor of Benue state.”

In his words, “when our leader, Sen. George Akume directed us on what to do in the run up to the 2007 governorship election, I alongside others worked tirelessly to ensure that Suswam became governor. Even though am his senior in age and politics, i never abstained from my role as a dedicated party leader. When I served under him as national Auditor at the PDP headquarters and later as Minister, I never betrayed him nor worked at cross purposes with his intensions. I was therefore saddened when he worked to undermine my ambition to be governor of Benue state,” he lamented.

Dr Ortom also took time to shed more light on the misconceptions arising from the 8 SUV’s given him by the governor, saying these vehicles were neither birthday gifts nor vehicles meant for his personally but such were statutory obligations of the outgoing administration on the incoming government.

The governor-elect then pledged to uphold the mandate given him and that he will not compromise at any level in the discharge of his duties as governor of Benue state, saying that his commitment to govern with honesty and the fear of God is sacrosanct.

The Gboko APC chairman and other leaders of the party who spoke pledged their commitment to the success of the incoming administration.

Car Talk / Horror In Benue: Trailer Crushes 8 Students To Death In Otukpa (photos) by BenueBlog(f): 8:36am On May 07, 2015
As residents of Otukpa, Ogbadibo LG of Benue State try to recover from the shock that gripped the community on Sunday evening over an auto clash which claimed lives of students and other commuters; a certain man from the local government (name withheld) has come out with a surprised revelation.

According to the man, his daughter left home on Thursday evening after been settled for the Semester.
He went further to say the entire household was rest assured that the lady was already in school and had settled down for the academic semester, only to find her corpse amongst the fresh accident victims on Sunday in Otukpa.
“We all believed she was in school since on Thursday. What was she doing in Otukpa for the past 3 days? Why is her corpse lying amongst those accidents victims here?”, he asked rhetorically while lamenting.

A tanker laden with diesel product had on Sunday evening rammed into a Volkswagen car which took off from Otukpa and was heading towards Ugbokolo in Okpokwu LG, crushing the vehicle to a palm and killing all the occupants in the car.
No rescue was made as the men and Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC couldn’t get a towing van to lift the remain of the tanker off the victims.

A community source who spoke to our Correspondent on condition of anonymity said “the Officers of the FRSC really tried their best; they had to keep vigil at the accident spot in Odoba till on Monday morning when they were able to get a towing van from Enugu State to remove the tanker from the bodies of the victims which were crushed beyond recognition. Can you imagine the FRSC don’t have such equipment in Benue State”.

Our Correspondent was unable to speak with the Unit Commander of the FRSC in Ogbadibo to ascertain the official figure of the casualties. Similarly, all efforts made by our Correspondent to get the Public Relations Officer of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo on the casualties on the part of the school proved abortive as he was not on seat on Monday as at time of visitation and he didn’t return his missed calls.

Meanwhile, another community source has revealed that about 8 persons lost their lives in the unfortunate incidence, though he claimed he could only identify the driver of the car, (an indigene of Adum Otukpa), a student of Benue Polytechnic (from Orido Otukpa) and a nursing mother with her baby.

Crime / SEE GRUESOME PHOTOS OF RECENT FULANI ATTACK IN Benue (VIEWER DISCRETION) by BenueBlog(f): 9:15am On Apr 26, 2015
At least three villages in Mbadwem district of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State have been deserted by their inhabitants, even as ten people and several others were injured in attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

The villages, Tse Uosu,  Gbudu and branch Umenger yesterday witnessed attacks by Fulani herdsmen who were earlier reported to have planned a reprisal attack on the village due to the loss of four fulani warriors in a previous attack.

According to an eyewitness Mr. James Gbudu,  the marauders sacked the villages and in the process killed ten people and several others wounded in the attack which took place yesterday  evening.

This attack is one out of the many attacks which have claimed thousands of lives in persistent clashes between fulani herdsmen and the farming communities around the state even with the constitution of various peace committees involving both parties.

Politics / Gunmen Ask Benue APC Chieftain To Quit Politics Or Die by BenueBlog(f): 6:33pm On Apr 25, 2015
Gunmen suspected to be political thugs attacked the home of a prominent politician and former Peoples Democratic Party’s stalwart who is now in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Ochoga on the eve of the just concluded governorship election in the country.

According to a reporter who visited the home of the politician at Chief Attah Ochoga Avenue, GRA, Otukpo, the attackers stormed the house at about 8pm on Friday, 10th April, firing bullets at the gate and leaving the premises shattered with bullet holes and a note pasted on the gate with the inscription “Chief Ochoga! Either retire yourself or we retire you. Stay away from Ado. Be warned!”

When contacted, Chief Ochoga, who just returned to the APC, a party he earlier helped to established in his local government of Ado rightly pointed accusing fingers in the direction of political opponents. He said the attack was part of the opponent’s strategy for winning Ado local government maximally.

The attack on my house by gunmen from what you see at the gate, they used very high caliber military weapon, they came in a Hilux in the night of 10th April. At that time my wife and I had already moved to Ado for the election. They thought the attack will deter me from my support for the APC. Once that happened, they thought they would have gotten Ado.

“Clearly, the attack was political and engineered by political opponents thinking that they would deter me” Ochoga said.

A security guard in one of the houses close to that of Ochoga who did not want to be named confirmed the attack describing it as one of the worse nights they have ever had in that area.

However, we gathered that the matter has since been reported to the police and investigation is currently ongoing.

Politics / New Suvs Part Of The Process, Remain Government Property – Ortom by BenueBlog(f): 6:40pm On Apr 24, 2015
The Governor-Elect of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom released the following signed statement through his media adviser, Mr Tahav Agerzua:

The attention of the Benue State Governor-elect, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has been drawn to concern raised by major stakeholders and members of the public about vehicles purportedly “given” to him by the Benue State Governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam as a birthday present yesterday.

Chief Dr Ortom expressed appreciation for the concern which he interpreted rightly that the people who gave him the mandate were watching with keen interest and vigilance in order to ensure that it was judiciously utilized. He wishes to however, correct the erroneous impression that the Sports Utility Vehicles were personal gifts presented to him and his Deputy, Engr Benson Abounu as well as their spouses.

The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment, stated that the vehicles were from the official Benue State Government House fleet procured for use by the incoming Governor and his Deputy which Dr Suswam showed them in case any was needed for use during the transition period and that they remained government property.

He explained that the gesture was in consonance with the culture in government circles where an outgoing administration provided some logistics for the incoming one at the state and federal levels.

The Governor-elect pointed out that at the Federal level the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, had been moved to Defence House and provided with several official vehicles and enhanced security while a plane from the Presidential fleet has been placed at his disposal beside other arrangements.

Chief Dr Ortom stated that elsewhere elected Chief Executives are also provided with accommodation, security, and protocol arrangements pending their swearing in adding that he had decided to remain in his private residence and also make other personal sacrifices in order to reduce the financial burden on the state government.

He assured that he would never compromise the mandate of the people for whatever reason pointing out that he remained faithful to their sensibilities and his pledge to be God fearing, transparent, honest, accountable, selfless, just, free and fair in his dealings with the people of the state.

Chief Dr Ortom stressed that he had declined to celebrate his 54th birthday with pomp on account of the sober mood of the people brought about by the harsh economic environment at this time even though it came on the heels of his victory at the governorship polls.

According to him he had also declined suggestions to take a vacation immediately after the announcement of the results so as to take time off to refresh but rather chosen to hit the ground running by confronting challenges of statecraft round the clock with no time even for low key celebration of his birthday with his family.

The Governor-elect said he spent his birthay holding important discussions with the outgoing Governor after which he held meetings to wind down his campaign team and finetune his administration’s blueprint after which he held another meeting with one of the Catholic Bishops in the state which lasted into the early hours of the next day.

He said he had been in constant touch with the outgoing Governor so that they could iron out issues such as the setting up of the joint transition committee, alleged recruitments and replacements into the civil service, the planned local government elections, as well as appointments of new first class chiefs which he suggested should be put on hold.

Delicious or Detestable? See How Frogs Are Prepared in Benue (PHOTOS)

Smoked frogs are a delicacy for some, but not all Benue people.

Philip Paul is a frog seller - and he and his wife and daughter love to eat them. The family hails from central Benue state but live in the north-east, where people are not so keen on them.

The 25-year-old says the frogs are so easy to catch that he grabs them with his bare hands. At night he puts a bit of bait on rope and when the frogs jump he just reaches for them.

He then skewers them on a stick. Since 2008 he has made a business out of catching frogs in Adamawa state and exporting them to Benue, where they love them.

Mr Paul dries out the frogs by the side of his house in full view for his neighbours. This has not persuaded them to have a taste.

Once the frogs have been out in the sun for six or seven hours, Mr Paul smokes them.

The frogs are classified by size. He sells a skewer of 37 small frogs for N250

The stick with 34 medium frogs costs N300 and the stick with 24 large frogs is N600.

The frogs are cooked in a stew with spices, tomatoes, onions and chillies. Mr Paul tells his neighbours they taste better than fish but they remain unconvinced.
Will you eat this?

REVEALED! TRUTH BEHIND SUSWAM’S ALLEGED “DONATION” OF SUVS TO GOVERNOR-ELECT

http://benue.com.ng/revealed-truth-behind-suswams-alleged-donation-of-suvs-to-ortom/
Politics / Revealed! Truth Behind Suswam’s Alleged “donation” Of Suvs To Ortom by BenueBlog(f): 8:29am On Apr 24, 2015
There have been a public outcry and outright condemnation as news broke yesterday that the outgoing Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam donated eight SUVs worth over 150 million naira to the Governor-Elect Dr Samuel Ortom, his Deputy-Elect Engr Benson Abounu and their wives.

Many wondered why Gov Suswam who claimed the state treasury was depleted which is why state public servants are being owed several months salary and why there is a halt in project executions, will have so much funds to prosecute failed election bids for both himself and his stooge, with left over to buy these expensive exotic cars.

Others felt Dr Samuel Ortom’s acceptance of the said “donation” was an act of compromise to cover Suswam’s dirty tracts after he leaves office, but Benue.com.ng have gathered that this was another plot by the self acclaimed black cat of Anyiin to vilify and elicit opprobrium from the public against the incoming government to make the duo look very bad in the eyes of the public.

Gov Suswam did it with so much flourish, making it coincide with Dr Ortom’s 54th birthday and in the presence of the press as to suggests that it was donation for their private use or as gifts. However, what is true and the reality was that those SUVs already belonged to the Benue State Government. They were never Suswam’s to donate as he said, to smoothen the transitional arrangement. Our sources revealed that they were actually meant to be the official vehicles of the incoming Government as protocol demands. The outgoing government normally hands over these accoutrements of office quietly and without much fanfare.

Senator George Akume didn’t do much fanfare when he handed over. Every other state is doing it without much noise either. That Suswam has made a meal out of it suggests smacks of desperation and an attempt to seize the narrative. He is trying to show that the new government is not any different from his.

Suswam’s second tenure has been marred by inability to pay workers wages for upwards of 5-6 months including those of pensioners. Many public analysts have called on him to focus on those issues rather than resort to old tricks.

Crime / BREAKING: Dead Body, Survivor Dumped At Teaching Hospital Gate In Benue by BenueBlog(f): 10:06pm On Apr 09, 2015
A dead body and a survivor were found early this morning dumped beside the gate of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

In what looked like a vicious attack, the tongue of the survivor was cut off leaving him clinging to life. He however left a note saying they were abducted by unknown gunmen.

Benue.com.ng gathered that the dead man was the councillor of Fiidi ward, Hon. Kaanya Msughter, one of those who decamped into the opposition party few weeks before the presidential election.

The scene of the incident was crowded by passersby and motorists, some of whom helped the survivor into the hospital were he is receiving treatment.

This has come just two days before the gubernatorial elections when many are harbouring fears as violence have characterised it’s buildup.

As at press time, neither the police command nor the APC had confirmed the incident.

Politics / Opinion: What Went Wrong For Gov Suswam? By Usha Anenga by BenueBlog(f): 11:53pm On Apr 05, 2015
It’s no longer news that Governor Gabriel Suswam lost his bid to represent Benue north-east senatorial district at the senate.  He was defeated by the incumbent senator, Chief Barnabas Gemade in a keenly contested election. Many will attest that the election was more about Suswam than it was about Chief Gemade.

Before now, either by the benevolence of destiny or self determination, Gov Suswam had never lost in any election. Somehow he pulled through even against the meanest of opponents in such a clever manner that earned him the nickname Kpatuma u ii meaning the black cat, obviously for its ability to be invisible at night. This time, a cacophony of factors coalesced to deal him the biggest blow yet, of his 16 year long political career, if not life.

In 1999 when Nigeria returned to democracy from military rule, Suswam, a young hustling lawyer abandoned his wig and gown to contest and win the Kastsina-ala/Ukum/Logo house of Representatives seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). With his charm of innocence, charisma and determination, Suswam had all the ingredients of a good politician and there was every reason to believe that the young man will go very far.

After 8 years at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, in April 2007, Suswam was elected Governor of Benue State, succeeding Dr George Akume who, arguably singlehandedly picked him in a manner that is familiar in Nigerian politics. Dr Akume planning to go to senate, needed a young vibrant confidant who would continue his decent strides and also pay some allegiance, and this he found in Suswam.

Suswam’s career and reputation continued to blossom, his early years as governor saw a lot of positive changes. In fact, my one and only facebook post on October 1, 2007 (independence day) was simply “Benue can celebrate” referring to the impact Suswam had on the state in that short period as governor.  Such was the air of approval and optimism that greeted the visible infrastructural developments at that time. Roads were being tarred, drainages built, and…. that’s it. That alone was something! That the roads in Makurdi notorious for “pitholes” were now motorable, was something. Although there were rumours that those were Akume’s projects, it didn’t matter much because Suswam took charge of them to completion – a feat worth commendation. The early days of Suswam’s government, I must confess, were impressive. His meteoric rise from humble beginnings to governor at a young age of 41 years was an inspiration, especially to the youths and endeared the people towards him.

Fast forward 8 years after, and the issues that surrounded Suswam’s loss in the election, one begins to wonder what really went wrong. How did all this love fade away? The reasons are not far fetched. Amongst many issues, two things stand out in the ontogeny of Gov Suswam’s undoing.

First, was an infamous fallout with his boss and predecessor, Dr George Akume. Suswam wanted to stand alone and set up his own political empire, and for many other reasons well covered by the local media and rumoured on social media, details of which I’m not qualified to unravel, these two gladiators just couldn’t get along. As the issues went unresolved, it became clear that they wouldn’t share one umbrella – the umbrella party, PDP, could not accommodate them, hence Akume leaving to seek refuge in newly formed Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Akume will go on to contest and win a return to the senate under this party.

The ousting of Akume looked like victory for Suswam but it wasn’t long before Akume came calling. In 2007, whilst Akume won his senatorial election quite easily, Suswam had a formidable opponent in his kinsman, Steve Torkuma Ugbah, a Professor of Marketing at Califonia State University, brought by Akume into the governorship race to wrestle power from him. The ensuing campaigns and election have been described as the stiffest and fiercest in the history of Benue State. The people, buoyed by the promise of change, rallied round the relatively unknown professor with Ugbah nyior, shior chenji meaning ugbah’s arrival has changed the game, as the campaign slogan. This gave Suswam a torrid time but as it’s characteristic of the black cat, he won the elections against all odds while Prof Ugbah headed for the court.

The protracted court cases bothering around allegations of certificate forgery amongst other issues that marred Suswam’s second tenure is a story for another day, but his fallout and continual feud with Akume had been underlined, and that his now former boss was going to take his pound of flesh was just a matter of time.
In the runoff to the last election, Akume defiled party norms and reason to jettison competent hands like Andrew Ayabam and Adaa Maagbe to more or less, award the APC Benue north-east ticket on a plater of gold to someone he knew will give Suswam a run for his money, Chief Barnabas Gemade – a serial chairman of five political parties and . Gemade too was given the “Akume treatment” by Suswam and was happy to join forces with his somewhat prodigal son, Akume to create what now is history – Suswam’s epic defeat.

Secondly, perhaps Gov Suswam’s greatest undoing has been the issue of non-payment of salaries and the levity and impunity with which the issue was handled. Civil servants worked for several months without pay, pensioners same with public primary and tertiary institutions all closed down for almost a year. Although the government cited several reasons as to why they couldn’t pay, even going as far as taxing 10% of every workers wages to offset the state’s wage bill, workers still weren’t being paid regularly. The consequence was state-wide hunger and poverty because the states economy resolves around salaries despite an agrarian status, a lack of which was definitely unacceptable.

To compound the issue, statements like “don’t expect salaries this month”, “I cannot perform magic”, “it will get worse” and all manner of impuntous utterances with little remorse, were attributed to the governor at different forums. That only added to the brewing resentment against him.

The rest is history, Gov Suswam lost most likely because Benue workers and their dependents at home voted massively against him, and have vowed to even do worse during next week’s governorship elections if they are not paid fully. Besides that, Suswam still faces a herculean task of installing his chosen successor, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor against an opposition that is not just basking in the euphoria of winning last Saturdays presidential election, but boast an experienced politician and former Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Samuel Ortom as governorship candidate, and most importantly, the goodwill of the people.

As brief as the occasion was three PDP stalwarts led hundreds to defect into the APC. His in-laws decorated him and his wife in Tiv traditional attire and also pledged their support towards the realization of his aspiration.

In Naka, headquarters of Gwer-West PDP chieftains including several former council chairmen and aides to Governor Gabriel Suswam dumped their former party for the APC.

The former chairmen were Abaji, Godfrey Ichoghol, and Andrew Ayande while the aides were Francis Nyibiam, a former Adviser to Governor Moses Adasu now current Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gabriel Suswam and his colleague, Anta Igbaato, alias Galadima.

The victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the Presidential and National Assembly Elections has sparked a new wave of cross carpeting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, into the majority party in Benue State beginning with thousands in Aondona and Naka towns in Gwer West local government area.

It all started when the governorship candidate of the party, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, and his entourage which included his campaign Director General, Professor Steve Ugbah, had a stopover in Aondona, where his wife, Chief Mrs Eunice Erdoo Ortom hails from.

Speaking at the two places Chief Dr Ortom expressed happiness that the chieftains had responded to the spirit of change sweeping across the country by jumping into the train as it made its last phase of the journey and enjoined those still outside to also move in.

He pledged those that his if voted into office, his administration would provide critical infrastructure including good roads, portable water, electricity, and health care even as he would implement the free and compulsory primary and secondary education enshrined in the APC manifesto.
Chief Dr Ortom also pledged to pay arrears of salaries and pensions and also tackle unemployment.

He maintained that he considered Gwer-West as his home since his wife hailed from the area and was counting on the support of the people of the place to make it to Makurdi Government House.

Leaders of the defectors who spoke said the PDP had outlived its usefulness hence the need for an alternative platform to address the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

In Benue State, as it is nationwide, the presidential contest is a two-horse race between Buhari and Jonathan. Many national pundits have predicted that Jonathan will have a smooth sail in getting the votes of the electorate in Benue following the intense campaign by his state coordinator and former Minister of State for Niger Delta Sam Ode, Governor Gabriel Suswam, Senate President David Mark, PDP governorship candidate, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, and the Minister for Interior, Comrade Abah Moro, but those on the ground know the situation is very precarious and will not be a stroll in the park for any of the candidates.

So far 1, 607, 800 PVCs have been collected out of 2, 015, 452 registered voters and the race to gather the highest number of votes is hotting up.

Here we will examine the pros and the cons for both candidates.

BREAKING NEWS: RECORDED PHONE CONVERSATION IMPLICATES GOVERNOR’S AIDE IN FULANI MASSACRE IN AGATU, BENUE STATE

An 8 minutes 25 seconds taped telephone conversation between a Fulani herdsman and appears to reveal an alleged complicity of Zakari Musa the aide to the Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam on the recent attack on Abugbe. Zakari, an Idoma man from Agatu, seems to be negotiating with a Fulani herdsman to spare some communities and attack others who he claimed their traditional heads were adamant to his advice, while promising to make sure he uses his powers to leave soldiers out of it.

Though we cannot yet independently verify the authenticity of this tape which first appeared on Idomapeopleofnigeria.com, if the tape is true, it may be the biggest lead know to the public on the incessant Fulani herdsmen attacks in Agatu, Benue State.

Fing below the recorded conversation and the translation in English for those who do not understand Hausa. Voice 1 is Fulani herdsmen and 2 is “Zakari Musa” ;
