A woman has reportedly killed her husband, her 3 children and also taken her own life in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

Although details are sketchy, it was gathered the sad event which occured today at their residence at Vandeikya street may have been as a result of a misunderstanding between the couple. 

It was gathered that the wind shields of the vehicle belonging to her husband was also smashed.

Until his death, the husband, one Nicholas Adetsav was a administrative staff of the local government service commission.

No less than 15 bodies have been recovered with many missing as suspected Fulani herdsmen militia attacked Mbachom village of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State in the early hours of today, Sunday.

This comes barely two weeks after the burial of 2 Reverend Fathers and 17 Parishioners who were killed by same herdsmen in Mbalom, Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.

According to preliminary reports, the marauding killers stormed the village while residents were asleep shooting sporadically and burning down houses.

This latest killing raises the death toll from Fulani herdsmen attacks in Benue State to over 500 people since the beginning of the year.

Students of Nursery and primary schools in Katsina- Ala protested seriously earlier today after their teachers went on strike.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, Benue State chapter has declared an indefinite strike following the governments inability to pay salaries for over 11 months.

Meanwhile, the Benue Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association has also embarked on a 7-day warning strike over government's inability to meets the demands of their members working in government hospitals which also include several months of owed areas of allowances and salaries.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has however appealed for calm saying he will clear all outstanding salaries before Christmas.

There was pandemonium at the boys hotel in University of Agriculture Makurdi yesterday as a girl walked into the hostel in broad daylight for the first time since the institution was established over 30 years ago.

Its not clear what led to this development but expectedly, all the boys trooped out to catch a glimpse as the girl, simple identified as Queen, defiled the University’s long-standing rule of no entry into the hostel of opposite sex.

NEWBORN BABY RESCUED FROM PIT LATRINE IN BENUE

Residents of Ikpayongo community in Gwer Local government area of Benue State, yesterday woke up to the ugly discovery of a newborn baby in a pit latrine.

The baby was reportedly rescued by some members of the vigilante group in the area following a distress call by a man popularly known as Morocco that a child was crying in his pit latrine.

An eyewitness, Mr Thomas Anongo expressed shock over the incident describing the act as crime against humanity.

The mother is yet to be known, however the baby was handed to the police for onward delivery to the social welfare department at the local government headquarters in Aliade.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom this afternoon at IBB square, Makurdi announced the release of N100,000,000 to enable 20,000 youths and women of the state to begin life as entrepreneurs.

Under this arrangement, the youths who completed training in various agro and allied industrial skills will get N5,000 each to start-up their businesses.

Governor Ortom said he has approved the funds under a micro credit facility but at zero interest rate for the beneficiaries and assured them if his continued support.

The training was organized by the Benue State Government in collaboration with Centre for Youths and Women Skills Acquisition (CYWSA).

Recall that a few weeks ago, reports that Governor Ortom allegedly purchased hundreds of wheelbarrows for distribution as youth empowerment went viral on social media.

Hon. James Gbande, member representing Kwande East State Constituency, made to kneel down and apologize to Governor Samuel Ortom after he accused the governor of not doing enough to end the killings by Fulani herdsmen in his constituency.

Fulani gunmen yesterday invaded Ikyoawen in Moor District and Diiv as well as Alaba villages of Nzaav council wards all in Turan, Kwande local government council killing 15 persons and destroying houses.

Member representing Oju/Obi Federal Constituency in the Federal House of representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Samson Okwu has been engulf in an alleged affair with the wife of one Agbo Samuel, a soldier serving at Akwa Ibom state.

It was gathered that the soldier who also hails from Obi local government as the reps member was suspicious that his wife may have been involved in illicit affairs when he was away.

On an unannounced visit, he discovered his wife, Joyce (nee Okwe) had been away for some days and was also told she was spotted at the house of Hon Samson Okwu days earlier.

According to reports, on Saturday 4th March, the soldier in the company of his uncle, one Alex Ojeka went to Hon Samson Okwu's house where he confirmed his wife had been staying there, and after a hot exchange, the lawmaker, accepted that he was sexually involved with the woman but pleaded for the matter to be kept under wraps.

Unsatisfied, it was learnt that the soldier has reported the matter to the Obarike-Ito police station, but is under pressure to withdraw the case for settlement out of the limelight.

When asked over the matter, the Benue state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu said he was yet to get details but promised to return with more information.

Efforts to contact the lawmaker for his own side of the story proved abortive.

Crime / In Benue: Boy Shot Dead By Unknown Persons In Broad Daylight (PHOTO) by BenueBlog(f): 8:13pm On Jul 01, 2016
Unknown persons gunned down a boy in broad daylight at about 1pm, today, at Titogate, along Kashim Ibrahim road in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Eyewitnesses say the boy was earlier seen talking to three unknown faces who surrounded him before the loud sound of gunshot was heard. The boy was shot in the head and died instantly.

The killers, were on foot and took advantage of the pandemonium that ensued to mix up with the crowd and escape.

Benue.com.ng gathered that the deceased was a resident of an area behind NUJ house notorious for cult activities and that the killing may have been a reprisal attack.

Titogate is one of the busiest parts of Makurdi town where mobile phones and their accessories are sold and repaired.

An attack by suspected armed robbers, last night, on Okpoga community of Okpokwu local government area, Benue State, has left 3 vigilante members dead and 3 others battling for their lives.

Reports say about 15 armed robbers suspected to be from neighboring Edumoga village stormed the community at about 2am this morning, shooting sporadically at a cluster of vigilante group members at a roundabout.

As a result, 3 members of the local vigilante group were killed and their bodies have been deposited in a mortuary while 3 others who sustained gunshot wounds are receiving treatment at St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga.

The vigilante group vehicle was also damaged during the attack.

The armed men then proceeded to rob two shops, carting away with goods worth thousands of Naira.

This is not the first time armed robbers will clash with the vigilante group in Okpoga community.

Two months ago, four persons believed to be natives of Okpoga and neighboring Ingle community were killed in a similar clash.

According to the Police, this latest incident, together with the last one, are under investigation.

Mrs Ortom who is fond of stooping to greet women of older age, through her pet project, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) has been at the forefront of girl-child advocacy and also provision of humanitarian aid and scholarships to less privileged individuals in the state.

Her work and humility has drawn admiration and commendation from the public.

These are pictures of innocent people killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Vaase market in Logo local government of Benue State last night.

Recall that on Saturday, herdsmen attack another part of the local government, and according to reports, the death toll has reached 59. The death toll of yesterday's attack, however, is yet to be confirmed but eye witnesses say, bodies litter Vaase market where the attacks took place.

No less than five persons have been confirmed killed and one missing as suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Dusa community of Logo Local Government, Benue State.

The incident which occur in the early hours of Saturday was confirmed by the Benue Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu.

He said, " five people were confirmed killed and their corpses deposited at General Hospital, Ugba (Logo Local Government headquarters) while one person is missing".

Prior to this attack, pictures of fleeing residents of Dusa and Jun in Turan ward,  and other communities in Nengev ward of the local government flooded the social media to alert security agencies.

However, eye witnesses say the herdsmen stormed the community in the early hours of today, shooting sporadically and chanting songs of war.

Herdsmen had earlier, yesterday, killed a farmer who was working on his farm in Tse Ikyadenyo, near Jun community.

Consequently, over 1000 villagers have fled their homes to take shelter at Ugba, the local government headquarters due to fear of further attacks.

These pictures were taken today along the road in Nenzev ward in Logo LGA Benue State. The entire ward is on the run from fulani attack.

If you can support to bring peace to this ward please do something. The situation is very bad.

They are all heading towards Ugba town the headquarters of the LGA, many of them need to cover 16 to 30 killometers to reach Ugba.

Pray for this people before you go to bed tonight.

Music/Radio / Upcoming Artist Charged For Murder After Trying To Get His Phone From Policeman by BenueBlog(f): 3:59pm On Jun 13, 2016
An upcoming Benue music artist, John Inalegwu Edward also known as Inas has been arrested and charged for homicide, armed robbery and conspiracy after insisting on collecting his phone from a police officer.

Benue.com.ng gathered that it all started when Inas was arrested along University of Agriculture road in North Bank area of Makurdi by Division C policemen while returning home after a video shoot on the night of Wednesday, 1st June 2016.

After two days in police custody, on Friday, he was bailed by family and friends for the sum of N20,000 but asked to return the next day, being Saturday, for his phone and other belongings since the officer that had them, who goes by the nickname "magistrate", was not around.

On returning the next day, " magistrate" the policeman told Inas not to disturb him, threatening to rearrest him if he did. As the boy continued to pled with the policeman, he was asked to return on Monday for his belongings.

When he returned on Monday, he was told to sit and wait for the policeman. After over four hours of waiting, "magistrate" the policeman handcuffed the young boy and sent him along with two others arrested the previous night to the state police headquaters on a fresh charge of homicide (murder), armed robbery and conspiracy.

All efforts to prove his innocence, including clips of the video shoot proved abortive. Inas and two others appeared in court today Monday 13th June 2016 and are being remanded in prison till the 8th of August for a case he allegedly knows nothing about.

When contacted, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Moses Yamu asked for details and promised to get to the root of the matter.

For over four hours, motorist were left stranded as students of the School for the Handicapped, Aliade, Benue State barricaded the Makurdi-Otukpo road.

The students were protesting the inability of the state government to pay their teachers salaries for several months.

They also alleged that they had been abandoned by the government and hadn't eaten for three days prior to the protest.

After hours of chaos, the policemen deployed, succeeded in clearing the road to allow free flow of traffic once again.

Recall that civil servants in Benue State have only been paid January salaries this year; a situation the state government blames on the dwindling federal revenue allocation to the state due to the falling global price of crude oil.

The Benue State Executive Council yesterday approved that Friday every week be made a work free day to enable workers in the state to work on their farms.

Governor Samuel Ortom who chaired the 16th session of the meeting at which the decision was taken explained that the objective was to enable as many workers as possible to produce food to feed their families in the current economic downturn which has made the regular payment of salaries a major challenge.

He announced that the work free day would commence from Friday, 10th June, and would last until the end of July 2016.

The Governor also announced that he would take a two-week vacation which was part of his annual leave from Monday, June 13th to work on his farm while the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu would act on his behalf during the period.

Yesterday morning, an unidentified man was burnt alive by a mob in Aliede, Gwer East local government of Benue State, after he allegedly stabbed a member of the local vigilante group.

According to eye witnesses, trouble started when the unidentified man, said to be of northern origin, was spotted with a suspicious bag and asked to open it by the vigilante member identified as Mr Tse Vende.

As the man declined, a small tussle ensued, during which the man from the north pulled out a knife and stabbed Mr Vende twice in the neck. Passersby tried to rushed him to the hospital but he died on the way.

Angered by the development, irate youths and other members of the vigilante group seized the northerner and set him ablaze.

Aliede, a small settlement along Makurdi-Otukpo road, is notorious for jungle justice. A few months ago, two motorcycle thieves were also burnt alive.

Unknown gunmen at the weekend invaded the village of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and killed a couple.

Police spokesman in the state, ASP. Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident, said Mr Joseph Msen Akosu and his wife were shot dead in Agasha area of Guma Local Government Area.

He said the gunmen, after killing the couple, burnt their bodies beyond recognition before the police arrived at the scene and recover empty shell of rifle at the scene.

He further explained that the mission of the arsonist against the couple could not be immediately ascertained.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom is pictured on the floor begging God to forgive the sins of the people of the state.

This happened today at a service to mark the end of a two-week compulsory fasting and prayers, held at the IBB Square in Makurdi, the state capital.

He said God told him the difficulties faced in the state was due to the sins of the people, hence the prayer.

The state is passing through tough times, workers have not been paid for 4-5 months with no completed project after one year, but Governor Ortom says there is hope as he attempts to recover looted funds from the past administration worth N107bn.

According to an eyewitness who is on his way to Makurdi from the PDP convention in PortHarcourt:

"We just came upon this accident after Umuahia, before Okigwe, involving a commercial bus in a head-on collision with a goods truck.

"Most of the passengers, including children, were still trapped deeply inside the bus, while the lifeless bodies of others were strewn around the accident scene as at the time of this report." He wrote.

A female student of College of Education in Oju was shot while sitting in front of her residence at Lawani hostels, situated outside the school campus.

According to the source, “the problem started when one student of the institution was alleged to have a long standing problem with a female student and supposed girl friend of a soldier.

“For that reason, the soldier, Thursday afternoon stormed the institution to whisk Anthony to the ‘Operation Zenda’ base in Oju, but fellow students resisted the move. He was asked to get an approval from the institution’s management before taking the student away.

“At that point the angry soldier went away, promising to come back. That evening the soldier went back to the institution with some of his colleagues to abduct the said Anthony but were resisted by students in the institution who also aided Anthony to escape.

“Vexed by the action of the students the soldier opened fire with his riffle and the innocent girl who was sitting by the door of her room got hit at the side of her chest.

“She was rushed to Adoga hospital in Oju where she was given two pints of blood because she had lost so much blood and thereafter rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, for further treatment because the bullet could not be extracted and her condition was deteriorating.

“As I speak with you we cannot ascertain the condition of the student but the Army Corporal has been arrested by the Police in Oju and transferred to the Command Headquarters in Makurdi.”

Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses Yamu failed but a top Police source who craved anonymity confirmed that the matter was being investigated while the Army Corporal was being interrogated.

Crime / Student Beaten To Death By Police In Benue (Photo) by BenueBlog(f): 12:06pm On May 20, 2016
A student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi identified as Samuel Chimezie Emeagwu, was Monday brutally beaten to death by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

According to reports, the deceased had misplaced his phone where he sat with a friend somewhere in town. When he called his line using another phone, it rang in another boy’s pocket. Out of anger, he seized the boy and started beating him.

The boy then reported the deceased to the SARS policemen who arrested and brutally tortured him, but on noticing that the deceased health condition was deteriorating, they alerted his family who then rushed him to the hospital, however he couldn’t make it.

The matter has been reported to the police and is under investigation.
