Ex-President Obasanjo Predicts Avocado As New Oil In 2030

The former president of Nigeria, who happens to be the person of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has predicted that Nigeria could become one of Africa’s biggest avocado producers by the year 2030.

Chief Olusegun made this disclosure during a courtesy visit to the Avocado Society of Nigeria (ASN) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The ex-president is the owner of Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Limited, he was conferred the honor of the Grand Patron of the Avocado Society of Nigeria (ASN).

He expressed his high hope on the production of avocado fruit, stating that his farm is currently diversifying into producing this fruit and every other person should do the same.

Speaking during the visit, the retired military general expressed high hopes for avocado production in the country – even as his farms diversify into producing the fruit.

“I want to see this country becoming one of, if not the leading, avocado producer in Africa”, the retired military general stated.

Chief Olusegun added that the enthusiastic nature of the farmers could bring his prediction to reality.

The country Nigeria possessed all qualities needed to take over the East African countries in avocado crop production.

He further added that avocado cropping, if expressly tapped into, could overthrow the crude oil economy.

“Those of us who have been opportune to know about this fruit production must not hold the information to ourselves.

“In my judgment and opinion, this is the new oil of Nigeria, if it is effectively harnessed,” he stated.

Looking at the benefits of the fruit, Chief Olusegun said, “Avocado is a wonderful and unique fruit and very lucrative business which can be done as either a business or a hobby, from having a plantation or just a few trees in one’s environment.

“Sincerely speaking I am very glad to be a member of this association. I pray more people will appreciate the immense value of the avocado business and join us either as a hobby or as a business.

Avocado fruit is a very healthy fruit with a lot of health benefits. The oil as well as the pulp from it is used in the pharmaceutical companies, therapeutic activities, and cosmetic industry.

“I will say a bit of avocado every day makes you healthier and keep you away from the doctor.”

The CEO of the Avocado Society of Nigeria (ASN), Ambassador Sola Bunmi Adeniyi, laid facts to Chief Obasanjo’s claims, urging the country to tap into the prospects in the production of the fruit.

He stated that the multi-million naira investment in Avocado by the Grand Patron (Chief Olusegun Obasanjo) clearly shows that he is an unrepentant lover and advocate of agriculture.

“You heard him saying the potentials of this fruit in the next ten years; therefore avocado production must be tapped into by all, he emphasized.

In conclusion, he said that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is the Grand Patron of this society because we believe in his capacity and we want him to lead this awareness for the good of Nigeria and the prosperity of our people.

Thank You, Sir. I came across the Kratky method of recent while searching for a way around getting the pump. I have also watched several videos on it in YouTube, including those uploaded by Dr Kratky himself.

As you rightly stated, the challenge now is where to get the nutrient solution in Nigeria.

Thanks

Although it requires special fertilizer solutions, I think fish pond water can be used to replace that. I've read about people that practice aquaponics, where the water from the fish pond is used for the plants.

My major problem is the pump, it requires a pump to send the water up and the pump has to have a timer. It'll be nice if someone explains that or a way around it

You can do without pump, there is kratk method, where half of the root are allowed in nutrient solution and half is allow to do the respiration. check kratky method on www.youtube.com the only limiting factor is the nutrient water soluble fertilizer is not common in Nigeria shops

many Nigerians are suffering from stunted growth and not because they have the short gene. Our diet alone is not encouraging. The only person I will believe is short in this country is someone with the features of a dwarf.

I also observed this, Nigeria third generation children are getting taller to than their parents. I mean I am taller than my parent, and my children are taller than I do. So good nutrition encourage growth

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Oyo State Tescom 2020 Recruitment Trend by benzion72(m): 4:10pm On Aug 07, 2020
Oyo State government has announced the readiness of the State’s Teaching Service Commission (Oyo TESCOM) to conduct computer-based test (CBT) for all candidates applying for teaching appointment, starting from Tuesday 11th August, 2020.
The Chairman, Oyo TESCOM, Pastor Akinade Alamu stated this on a Fresh FM programme, anchored by popular presenter, Isaac Brown in Ibadan on Thursday, while answering questions pertaining to developments on the State’s teaching appointment.
Alamu had recently informed the general public that all applicants for the teaching appointment would have to upload their credentials to the State’s website to allow for equal participation and open process.
He said the examination would run through the week from 7am till 6pm except on Sunday, reiterating the fact that whoever that could not upload his or her credentials to TESCOM’s portal before Tuesday should not bother to write the test.
“The examination will be starting on Tuesday, 11th August, 2020 and will run through the week till Saturday, they will be starting daily from 7am till 6pm and the results will be communicated to the applicants through the email they put in their registration and through SMS.
“No applicant’s complaints will be attended to at the CBT centers, if anybody has complaints, let them come to the TESCOM office, we wish them the best in the examination.”
Alamu hailed the State administration’s resolve to conduct computer-based examination for all candidates applying for teaching appointment in the State, as according to him, the move has portrayed the government as being open in all its governance processes.
Reacting to the issue of private school owners demanding a quarter of school fees for periods students were at home due to Covid-19 pandemic from their students, the TESCOM Chairman said the private schools ought to have consulted with parents and other stakeholders before deciding on such.
He asked the private school owners concerned to see the effects of covid-19 as that which affected them and parents as well, urging them to desist from charging the students without appreciating the consequence of the current situation on the financial strength of individual home.
