Searching.. 9/10
Genre: Psychological Thriller

This movie kinda brings something new to the thriller genre, the combination of a clever concept & a strong performance by it's lead, I think are some of the reasons the movie got its high ratings on Major movie review sites online. I was initially skeptic about John Cho's performance, knowing him fully well to be crowd-pleaser when it comes to comedy but I am glad to see that he really outperformed himself this time.

The ending really gave me goosebumps( when they found her to be exact). Never underestimate the power of the internet & social media platforms.
When someone insinuated yesterday that Searching was so boring he deleted it WITHIN 10 mins, it reinforced my earlier submission that many Nigerians cannot recognize an intelligent movie. I can bet my left testicle that if Upgrade had no action/fight scenes, some people would've rated it 2/10. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

What happened to Monday 11/10
Though I caught some plotholes, don't know if they are worthy.
1. The siblings dug out out the fact that Monday transferred some huge amount of money to that witch of a woman without a her own signature. How is that possible in the American banking system without raising a flag. Is it possible?

2. When Thursday decided to disguise as Monday, how come she knew the exact EARINGS Monday was wearing on that particular day? This can be seen when they were both fighting. The coincidence was too much.

What do I know sef?
Koice, Beorn, Jerome make una explain for me ah beg. I want to understand.
Bro, I watched that movie mid last year, it's not possible for me to remember these two findings unless I watched the movie again, and frankly, I've many TV series to catch up on, for me to go re-watch the movie. Sorry, I can't be of help. I don delete the movie sef. grin

Okay. So now that we are on the same page.

I am a film producer myself. I just need funding. I need to raise 5 million Naira for my documentary on neo- colonialism. I am also an African prince. My account no is 4196666419. GTB bank. Please donate.

Jokes apart, it is easy to blame Nigerian producers for not taking on educational projects but would you invest in their projects when they want to do such?
I blame them and the FG because they're the biggest culprits. Who brought the Holocaust movies to our screen if not for Hollywood? So what excuses do we have? Are our movies even intelligent? The average Nigerian movie (except for the new ones) takes few weeks or even a month to produce, while scripting alone in Hollywood takes several months.

In Dangal, the director read about the story, interviewed the family to get insight of the movie he's about to produce, then went on a diet for months to assume the role of the man whose family were being talked about.

Spielberg took several months gathering information about the Holocaust story, reading the book, interviewing the man that told the story, getting the right script about the movie. He famously sent back one of the script writers when he found her script to be too short to infuse all the details he needed. He extended the "ghetto liquidation scene" because he had read the book and wanted that scene to convey the message of pain. This shows a man that's interested in story.

How many of our directors can be this bothered about any story on slavery? Do they even read books on slave trades? Are there even books on slave trades from a Nigerian POV about what happened over here?

The excuse of sponsorship is not strong enough. Genevieve Nnaji's latest Braveheart movie was not produced with her own money alone, she got other sponsors who invested in the movie. A top director like Kunle Afoloyan with connections to influential men in power can get sponsors if he's interested in such movies. Or maybe, just maybe, if they can write a good script worthy of adaptation and pitch it to these Hollywood companies, one of them may sponsor them. They don't need my meager cash to produce good movies. That's not an excuse.

Bro, you post a 2014 article from the Vanguard about removing history from the curriculum. That is a house Nigger move mennn. How can you blame our leaders for a problem that white people started? Our leaders only made it worse.

1) History was never properly taught from the beginning of Nigerian education in the 19th century.
2) History was already dead in the schools, as noted by your vanguard article.

3) The vanguard article is poorly referenced and poorly written, it doesnt quote any source from the ministry of education
4) Oga, I am not a small boy, I finished secondary school long before 2014

In summary, you desperately went in search of stuff to defend your white slave master. Stop that.

Jokes aside, there is another reason why slave trading history is not known or accepted in Nigeria. Religion. A christian will never accept that the Europeans that came to pack slaves were God-fearing christians. The bible supports slavery as well. The whites brainwashed our forefathers with christianity.

Then there is islam. The muslim Arabs were the original slave traders of blacks. Slavery is supported in islam. Which muslim is ready to accept this truth.

Oga, the white man carries most of the blame today for us not knowing our history. You cannot argue against this fact. I am not surprised that many Nigerian movie producers cannot make slavery films. The worst is that our producers even paint the white missionaries as good people. Cognitive dissonance does not allow them to see meaning in Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart".

*drops mic*
We both agreed that whites pioneered slave trade and caused extreme pains on us with it. I'm not arguing that. I'm not also arguing that the whites haven't done enough on the FULL details of our harrowing experience in that era. But what are we doing about it as Africans? What's stopping us from saying our side of the story? If the whites won't tell the full gory stories, why are we mum about it?

These are the important questions to ask. Why weren't the FG trying to involve scholars and historians to interview people that survived the slave trades, the various families affected who lost their loved ones? The FG are busy looting our wealth to care about these things. Those bastards are more interested in taking our money abroad to bother.

We're not helping matters. The whites will never tell the full story and the dumb Africans are too docile to act. Hotel Rwanda was a Hollywood production telling an African story about the Rwanda genocide. How many African-produced films have talked more on the genocide? Therein lies the problem.

In Rwanda, the Tutsis genocide by the Hutus are being taught in schools despite the painful experience behind it, but here in Naija, History which has been massively edited by the whites was removed entirely. Why are we this useless? The whites are to be blamed but the blacks are aiding them cover up their atrocities.

You are right but unfortunately, you are right about a different matter from what I am talking about

Yes, we should not blame everything on the white man. We should help ourselves. Unfortunately, this is one issue that the white man fully carries the blame.

How do you expect Nigerians to do movies about slavery when they have been forced into ignorance about slavery by white men? Why is slavery not taught in secondary schools? Did you learn about Jaja of Opobo in schools? The white man's educational syllabus is what our educational system is founded on. WHY ARE WE NOT TAUGHT PROPER HISTORY IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS? WHO EVEN WRITES HISTORY IN WAEC?

Dont be a house Nigger wink

Slavery was an American problem. The holocaust was not an American problem. America only fought the Nazis when they were threatened by the "axis of evil". There are milions of white people who have slavesmasters as their ancestors. Millions of African Americans who have slaves as ancestors.

From 1990 till present, I think that there are about only 10 films that deal with slavery. That is 10 films in almost 30 years. Not good enough.
Bro, when I tell people that if there's ever a second coming, I still want to be black, but don't ever want to be born anywhere near Africa especially Nigeria, the emboldened is exactly why I do say it.

The emboldened questions left me laughing because once again you're blaming the whites only and ignoring our dumb leaders. Read the link below, it exposes how useless, pathetic, backward and myopic our leaders are.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/03/history-ends-nigeria/

While the whites embraces the past and try to learn from it where necessary, in our case, our fellow blacks REMOVED History from our curriculum. The whites had absolutely nothing to do with why we don't learn or write History in our institutions. Your fellow blacks caused it. But here you go again blaming them. How did the whites stop us from learning or teaching History? Was a white man our president when we banned History subject in Nigeria? Our leaders scared of the atrocities and destruction of their past activities banned History so the next generations will not learn the truth.

This is the 20th century and we're independent, what's stopping us from teaching slave topics in our school even though they are foreign curriculum? The excuse that we're using foreign curriculum doesn't hold water. We are just too foolish to realize histories are meant to be retold, preserved and passed down from generation to generation. Oyibos tell their stories, maybe hide the devilish ones, but we destroy ours and promulgate laws to remove any vestige of our past.

Just like the slave masters wouldn't let go of their slaves without a fight, the whites may never tell the full stories, but it's up to the slaves to fight for their freedom, it's up to us the Africans to make it mandatory that our stories are published and brought to the screens for generations to learn of the atrocities of the whites. It's up to us to make it a part of History curriculum. The whites won't do that for u. The whites are pioneers of slavery, but they have tried at least to some good extent to tell the stories of our sufferings in over 20 movies. What have we done as Africans to show the evil the slave trade wrecked on us? By producing IQ-depeleting movies Like Blackberry Babes part 1 to 6.

The whites owes us nothing when it comes to telling our stories, if we're too unperturbed to tell it, then let's shut the hell up and continue living in stupidity. I

Searching 9/10.

I never thought there would be any movie THIS YEAR I'd rate above the 8.5 I gave to Avengers: Infinity War till I watched Searching last night. This movie along with Upgrade shows low budget movies still got it. Very simple but yet educative, suspense-filled, with enough shocks and twists along the fun ride.

My world. Nah, I rate this movie as my best of 2018 so far. The concept is refreshing and new, the directing and storyline is top notch. This movie was close to perfection. I'm yet to find a single plot hole!!

The guy that recommended this movie yesterday, you're the man of the week. Salute!!

I am an activist and a humanist. I am an activist for the mental emancipation of black people- home and abroad.

The real holocaust is the slavery of black people the occurred for over 300 years. We keep hearing that Hitler is the most evil person in history. Hitler was evil but you cannot compare a holocaust of less than a decade to slavery of people for many centuries.

You can easily count the african slavery movies that have come out from 1990 till date. However, there are so many movies that have the holocaust as a plot. Even captain America fought Nazis. Hollywood and white america like to put themselves in good light.

Did you know that in 1945 when they were fighting Hitler, blacks did not have civil rights (until the 60s)?
There have been many movies and documentaries that touched on the black slavery and what our forefathers/blacks passed through. For example, 12 Years a Slave, Selma, Amistad, 500 Years Later (a documentary), The Birth of a Nation (both that of 1915 and 2016), Rosewood (I cried as a kid when I watched the movie), Roots (mini-series), Sankofa, Killer of Sheep, etc. So many of them.

We have movies on racism like Malcom X. Movies on apartheid like Sarafina and Long Walk to Freedom.

But all these movies are Hollywood production, they may not be as much as Holocaust movies, or as detailed as them, but they're out there. Now the big question is, what are Africans doing to tell their stories? Nobody can tell it better than us. We're the ones that suffered yet foreigners are the one telling our stories for us. Do we even keep records of those pasts?

How many novels have you heard of about slave trade survivors? Google Holocaust survivors stories and see how the survivors tell their stories in both paper and digital publication, and how the whites penned them down and brought them to the cinemas. The Amistad movie about black slavery was directed by Spielberg, a white man, who also directed Schindler's List, a Holocaust movie. Instead our African movie directors, especially Nollywood and Ghollywood, are focused on romance and voodoo movies that adds no intelligence to us. What are our movie directors doing to bring the harrowing and grotesque suffering of the slaves survivors to our TVs?

We need to stop blaming the whites for everything, especially things we'd do ourselves. If they're telling the Holocaust stories more, then we do the same for slave trades. They're likely to be biased in telling slave tales, but at least they have tried to tell them. What have we the victims done to shed light on our travails? Instead I'm here watching Wedding Party, Kiss Me Quick, Osuofia in London and the rest of the Nollywood grade A nonsense movies.

We're part of the blame, if not all of it.
