Lol! I know what you mean but I think they took it too far in this particular movie. Especially the scene were the Priest kept following the possessed kid then eventually ended up being trapped in a conffin. Infuriating.

This is why you hardly see Black people in horror movies. grin grin
I call Father Burke, Sister Irene and Frenchy, the 3 idiots. Very foolish individuals.

It is an integral framework of horror movies . Stating that jump scares is irrelevant in horror movies is like saying having some level of brutality or extreme violence in fight scenes of action movies is irrelevant, we all know it's one of the things that makes fight scenes memorable.
Exactly, especially the supernatural subgenre of horror movies. I can't even watch a supernatural horror movie without a jump scare.

Jump-scare in horror is just lazy writing. Look at it this way; it's 99% guaranteed that you'd score a penalty without a goalie manning the post, no? All you gotta do is kick the ball straight down the middle with your foot, and voila, you've scored. That's jump-scare in a heartbeat. It's easy to scare people. You can scare the average audience by merely changing a scene all of a sudden (without warning), and replacing the scene with a ghost/demon/whatever. For instance, you allow the audience to let its guard down, and BOOM! An enormous pale thing suddenly walls into frame, filling the entire frame. It’s sudden, unexpected and terrifying. Jump-scare 101. Bonus points if the ghost/demon/whatever is nightmarish looking.

Psychological horror on the hand, builds up suspense, messes with your mind, and generally creeps you out. It's makes you paranoid in a way that proves that atmosphere can maintain a sense of tension and dread throughout, and doesn't need to have cheap jump-scares in order to be frightening. It let's you use your own thoughts. When it comes to atmospheric impact, the less you see/expect is always better.

Hereditary and The Babadook are two prime examples of a psychological horror. Both repeatedly build suspense until it becomes unbearable, and very rarely provides audiences the emotional relief of jump-scares. I'd take this two over the run-of-the-mill jump-scare horrors flooding the horror genre, any day.
I perfectly understand your angle, but the issue I can deduce from your post is that there were a lot of jump scares in The Nun used in furthering the plot instead of focusing on imaginative and creative storyline to induce the fear factor while making the movie educative and interesting. You need to understand that all horror movies can't be psychological masterpiece like the Sixth Sense.

Supernatural Horror movies like The Nun or The Conjuring franchise are supernatural horror movies and usually involves the use of ghosts, demons and nightmarish creatures to tell their tales. Some horror movies like the Saw franchise focuses more the use of gore and violence than jump scares. We've the ones like Chainsaw Massacre that uses that as well alongside jump scares.

There's no denying the fact that psychological horrors are the best among all horror subgenres, and my favorite subgenre of the horror because it's quite educative and stimulates the brain and uses less jump scares, but jump scare tactics are what made the horror genre famous and gave that genre its fear factor. If jump scares are used alongside a good storyline like in The Nun, then the excessive jump scares can be pardoned.

The Hereditary movie despite it being a psychological horror, had a boring building up of the suspense, taking over an hour to build the storyline left me feeling sleepy for most of the time. And it still employed one or two jump scare techniques. The Nun trumps it any day, any time.

The Nun employed jump-scares to scare the audience, and I'm completely desensitized to that particular brand of horror. Jump scare is tantamount to tickling someone with your hands, thereby, physically persuading them to laugh against their will. It's a cheap tactics.
But I thought jump scares were integral framework of the horror movies. Because most horror movies uses it. They strike fear into viewers.

The Nun 8/10.

Dammit, I hate watching horror movies especially at night. The Nun is scariest and most interesting in the Conjuring franchise for me.

Dark is dope. Kind of a mindf**k though. Gives off Predestination and Looper vibes.

So, make sure you have your thinking cap on.
That means it's sci-fi. Cool. After Daredevil and A Discovery of Witches, I'll face it.

They don't. The last good Western was Tarantino's Hateful Eight. Too bad his next movie might be his last.
Why do you think it might be his last?

A rewatch actually.

I'm rewatching old western masterpieces, like 3:10 to Yuma, True Grit and Unforgiven. They don't make them like that anymore.
Drop the link of Unforgiven and 3:10 to Yuma if you can, 420p links preferably. I've watched 3:10 to Yuma and True Grit, haven't seen Unforgiven.

Whitey Bulger is dead.

I remember i recommended the movie Black Mass to someone here. A true life story about a criminal and FBI informant. His brother William was a powerful local Democratic politician who became president of the Massachusetts State Senate in 1978 and later the president of the University of Massachusetts.

Johnny Depp(pirates of the Caribbean) acted as Whitey Bulger, while Benedict Cumberbath(Dr Strange) acted as his brother.

Whitey Bulger story also inspired The Departed, which won the Academy Award for best picture in 2007.
I'll look out for the movie later.

Beorn needs to understand the dark side. Have a lesson from Bobby Axelrod
It consumes more than it liberates. Why cling unto hate when you can choose freedom of mind and ditch the burden that comes with excessive hatred?

We all hate something or someone, we're humans and hate is part of our emotional framework, but if not utilized or channeled properly, can lead to a destructive end.

Lolz. Smart guy. cheesy

Lemme decipher it for the benefit of everyone.

-"I'm a doubting thomas..." alludes to "Tom", which is short for Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, famed for doubting his resurrection.
- "...going for a smooth ride" alludes to "Cruise", which is defined as to move or proceed smoothly.
- "My first name starts with a letter that comes after the letter s..." alludes to the the letter "T"
- ...my surname ends with a letter that comes before the letter f."alludes to the letter "E"

Pretty basic stuff. smiley
Tom Cruise. cool

Everything Koice wrote about CW was on point. The kiddo above just proved it.

Using runaway models as actresses.
Using handsome males as actors.
Selling their shows on aesthetically appearances of their casts.
Love melodrama.
Teens and starry-eyed young adults being their target audience.

No wonder after 3 seasons, their series' storylines starts depreciating as they focus more on love/romance.

I stopped watching Arrows after season 1 because I found it childish. I watched all seasons of TVD and The Originals but after 3 seasons, both series depreciated. Smallville, I quit it after season 6 after the season lost its taste. I'm sure if I decide to watch 100, I'll meet the same fate as others.

Been So Long. 6.5/10.

Apart from the musical scenes that threatened to turn the movie to a Bollywood movie, the romance was pretty all right.

It seems everyone had a good weekend with different hyped movies to watch!

.......except for real madrid, who found themselves in a horror movie where they were the victims of barca sharpshooter squad. 5-1! Damn!! shocked
I wasn't surprised. The writing's been on the wall for many weeks now. One-sided and boring El Classico. The movie was a flop, after a modest expectation, it flopped at the box office. Hoping the sequel next year will provide better visuals and cinematography after the incumbent director from the Spanish capital may have been sacked.
