CrimeEstimated 1,700 Christians Abducted Or Killed In First 100 Days Of 2023 by BetterHeadline(op):

Over 50,000 Christians were killed in Nigeria by Islamist extremists over the past 14 years, with some 1,000 Christians brutally murdered in the first 100 days of 2023 alone, according to a new report by the civil rights group Intersociety .

No fewer than 707 Christians were abducted within the same period

SOURCE
"It has been investigated and found that no fewer than 1,041 defenseless Christians were hacked to death by Nigeria's Jihadists in the first 100 days of 2023. Also, no fewer than 707 Christians were abducted within the same period... Going by our findings warranting this special investigative report, the number of Christians killed in the country for nonviolently professing Christianity between July 2009 and April 2023 has risen to 52,250," according to the report, titled "Martyred Christians in Nigeria", published by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety).

"No fewer than 50 million Christians majority of them in Northern Nigeria are facing serious threats from jihadists for being professed Christians; out of which not less than 14 million have been uprooted and eight million forced to flee their homes to avoid being hacked to death. About five million have been displaced and forced into IDP camps within Nigeria and refugee camps at regional and sub-regional borders," the Nigerian non-governmental organization report pointed out.

Also, at least 800 Christian communities have "uprooted and seized or taken over; with many of them renamed and Islamized by the jihadists" since 2009, reported Intersociety which has been investigating religious persecution and other forms of religious violence by state and non-state actors in Nigeria since 2010.

According to Intersociety findings as many as 18,000 churches and 2200 Christian schools and other Christian learning centers were most likely to have been attacked by the Jihadists or destroyed in part or in whole including being razed or burned down. The number of Mosques and Islamic learning centers attacked by jihadists is "minutely disproportionate" when compared to number of churches or Christian schools attacked, according to the report.

Corroborating evidence
According to the Intersociety research, Nigeria is now among the most dangerous countries in Africa for Christians to reside. This was also noted in the Open Doors' 2023 World Watch List, published by the interdenominational organization that stands in solidarity with the world's persecuted Christians, that Nigeria led the world in Christians killed for their faith in 2022, with 5,014. That study found that 89% of all Christian martyrs globally were from Nigeria. The World Watch List also reported that 4,726 Christians were abducted in 2022, sexually assaulted or harassed and forcibly married or physically abused.

According to the pontifical foundation Aid to the Church in Need that supports Catholics and other Christians who are persecuted, more over 7,600 Nigerian Christians were killed between January 2021 and June 2022.

Government's inaction in curbing violence
Catholic Church leaders in Nigeria have criticized former president Muhammadu Buhari and his government for not curbing the violence that has now become a major crisis in the country. More than 30,000 Christians were killed during Buhari's past eight-year presidency.

They have repeatedly criticized the federal government for failing to provide security in parts of the country witnessing ongoing anti-Christian violence, for inaction regarding attacks on Christians by the Islamic State and Boko Haram, as well as the groups' kidnapping of priests, religious and lay people. The Nigerian bishops allege that atrocities against Christians have gone unchecked and risen to alarming numbers because the country's security forces and concerned political actors look the other way or collude with the jihadists.

The Nigerian bishops have also repeatedly denounced government inaction regarding
attacks on Christians by the Islamic State and Boko Haram, as well as the groups' kidnapping of priests, religious and lay people. They accuse Nigerian authorities of being partisan in the conflict between Fulani shepherds (mostly Muslims) and farmers (mostly Christians) in the central region of the country.

The insecurity situation
Nigeria, with a population of 190 million, has been battling an insecurity challenge since the Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009. Intersociety reports that jihadists belonging to Nigeria's main Islamic jihadists — Militant Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram and its offshoot ISWAP — have killed Christians and burnt and destroyed their worship places.

One of the most shocking occurred when 40 Catholics were killed last year on Pentecost Sunday, June 5, during Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State...

In 2018, on New Year's Day, 17 people were killed during an attack at the Ilorin Cathedral. In April that same year. two priests and at least sixteen worshipers were killed during a Eucharistic celebration in the Diocese of Markudi, in central Nigeria.

Some 40 people were killed in a Boko Haram attack on St. Theresa's Church in Madalla, outside Abuja, on Christmas Eve in 2011. The following year, a suicide-bomber drove a car into to the Church gate of St. John Catholic Cathedral, Bauchi, North-Eastern Nigeria on September 23, killing four worshippers and injuring 15 more, including women and children. The parishioners were leaving the church after morning Mass.

Crime5yr Old Christian Boy Beheaded; Sleeping 8yr Old Christian Girl Gunned Down by BetterHeadline(op):
Visit Here For More News That Will Interest You

A five-year-old boy was reportedly beheaded when Islamists attacked a village in Southern Kaduna State, leaving dozens of people dead.

CSW reports that among the casualties were a sleeping eight-year-old girl who died from a gunshot to the stomach, and a pregnant woman who was a month away from her due date.

SOURCE
In the April 15 attack, the killers descended on Runji village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Southern Kaduna State, leaving 33 people dead, among them 14 children.

Condemning the attack in a Tuesday, April 18 report, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) has called on the international community to put pressure on the Nigerian government to end the killing of innocent civilians in the West African country.

CSW’s Press and Public Affairs Team Leader, Kiri Kankhwende, finds it regrettable that attacks continue on Nigerians in Kaduna and Benue States unabated as the international community does little to help.

Kankhwende says that innocent people in Nigeria continue to suffer unspeakable horrors as the authorities at both State and Federal levels, and that “the international community, do far too little to protect or assist them.”

“The unaddressed insecurity has now metastasized and constitutes a threat to Nigeria’s territorial integrity, with serious implications for the region, the continent, and the wider international community,” the CSW official says.

He adds, “The international community must assist in this regard wherever possible, including by holding the federal and state governments to account, should they continue failing to fulfill their duty towards citizens.”

Expressing solidarity with the victims of the April 15 Islamist attack in Southern Kaduna, the CSW Press official says, “We extend our deepest condolences to all those who have lost loved ones in these recent attacks in Benue and the southern Kaduna States and wish those who have been hospitalized a swift and full recovery.”

The 33 victims of the attack on Runji village were reportedly buried in a mass grave amid distressing scenes.

“Fourteen of the victims were children and including a five-year-old boy who was reportedly beheaded. Several others were reportedly burnt beyond recognition,” CSW reports.

The human rights foundation quotes survivors who said that at least 200 militia descended on the village at around 10.30 p.m. on April 15, “shooting sporadically” and setting fire to around 40 houses.

The attackers are said to have operated for over an hour before leaving, informing surviving villagers they would be returning.

Some of the terrorists are also said to have lost their lives when soldiers and local vigilantes engaged them.

CSW reports that Zangon Kataf LGA has been under sustained attack since Nigeria’s general elections period came to an end, despite the area having a joint military and police camp stationed 3km from its main town.

An attack on Ungwan Wakili on the evening of March 11 claimed the lives of around 17 people, most of them women and children, allegedly following “a series of complaints of cow poisoning and destruction of farm produce by both herders and locals in the area” and an altercation between security operatives and Fulani herders on motorcycles.

The attack on March 11 occurred four days after 88 people were killed in a similar assault on an IDP camp in Benue State that had also largely targeted women and children, eliciting a rare but strong condemnation from the United Nations (UN) Office in Nigeria.

The Nigerian presidency was also prompted to issue a statement lamenting the “concerted attack on innocent citizens in the state”, adding that “law enforcement agencies must take serious action to put an end to this.”

Despite the condemnation, the attacks in Nigeria continue unabated, CSW laments, making reference to the April 5 raid on the Dutsen Bako community in Zangon Kataf LGA in which at least four people were killed.

In another attack on April 12, nine people were killed, four were injured and five homes were damaged during an attack on Tanjei village in the area.

CSW reports that among the casualties in the April 12 attack were a sleeping eight-year-old girl who died from a gunshot to the stomach, and a pregnant woman who was a month away from her due date.

According to Kankhwende, concerted and concrete action is essential to ensure that the Nigerian security forces are adequately resourced to combat the threats posed by terrorist groups operating in the country, and to protect vulnerable communities.

He describes the insecurity in Nigeria as “deeply distressing”, adding, “Such events are not at all uncommon for many communities in Nigeria.”

CrimeSeveral Christians Arrested For Leaving Islam; Face Execution by BetterHeadline(op):
Visit Here For More News That Will Interest You

Last week Libya’s Internal Security Agency launched a campaign in the city of Tripoli to arrest Libyan citizens and foreigners accused of apostasy from Islam and preaching Christianity.

The Internal Security Agency statement confirmed that the accused were transferred to the Office of the Public Prosecutor and thus face the risk of execution.

SOURCE
The security agency did not specify the number of those arrested and refrained from publishing their names, stating only their initials.

The agency released a video of six Libyans — including a girl — as well as a Pakistani and two Americans with their faces blocked out in which they confess to the charges.

The two Americans worked at the Gateway International School in the Tripoli suburb of Zawiyat al-Dahmani that specializes in teaching English.

The government agency said that the two Americans and the wife of one of them belonged to the Assemblies of God Christian missionary organization. It was not revealed whether the wife was arrested or not.

The Americans were accused of secretly turning the school into a center for preaching the Christian religion.

The Internal Security Agency noted that the organization to which the Americans belong plays an important role in “seducing Libyans in various ways” to deviate from the Islamic religion.

In an official press release, the agency stated: “The Libyan people are proud to belong to their religion and consider it the solid foundation of their unifying national identity and regard any violation or abuse of it as a hostile act that threatens national security and seek[s] to sow discord and disunity among its people and those who comprise it.”

The Internal Security Agency “is keen to monitor suspicious activities and appeals that threaten the Islamic identity of our society, including the crime of apostasy and incitement to it.”

“Attacking our true religion is no different from acts of extremism and terrorism, and through monitoring and investigation, the agency monitored the rise in activities hostile to true Islam, targeting our youth of both sexes, many of whom left the country,” the statement said.

A member of the Supreme Council of State and the Political Dialogue Committee in Libya, Salem Musa Madi, announced on his Facebook page that his son Sifaw had been abducted in Tripoli on March 26. On April 6, he reported that he was apprehended by the Internal Security Agency on charges of converting to Christianity.

Open Doors reported that the current number of Christians in Libya is 35,400 (0.5% of the population).

Its report for the year 2023, which covers the period from Oct. 1, 2021, to the end of September 2022, indicates that 200 Christians were subjected to physical and psychological violence during that period, 19 Christians were kidnapped, and another 15 were arrested.

Eight Christian installations, including churches, were attacked either directly or in their environs.
Libya ranks fifth on the organization’s list of countries where Christians face the greatest persecution.

In its detailed report on Libya, the organization also draws attention to the great influence of the Turkey-Qatar axis, which supports political Islam, especially in Tripoli and the country’s west.

Political Islam replaces the laws or interprets them differently so that they restrict the practice of other religions. It also works to change the culture of society — which puts it under great pressure — so that it becomes more radical and extreme, not only toward other religions but also toward other Islamic sects.

The Internal Security Agency statement confirmed that the accused were transferred to the Office of the Public Prosecutor and thus face the risk of execution.

Thousands of Christians have been killed in Nigeria since the Islamist uprising began in 2009, a recent investigation has established, further revealing that “1,041 defenseless Christians” were put to death in the first 100 days of 2023.

SOURCE
The latest report by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) indicates, “Since the 2009 Islamic uprising, 52,250 Christians and 34,000 moderate Muslims have been butchered or hacked to death.”

“30,250 of those have been killed since 2015, when President Muhhamadu Buhari came to power,” authors of the report by the Intersociety, a research and investigative rights group , which has been monitoring and investigating religious persecution and other forms of religious violence by State and non-State actors across Nigeria since 2010, say.

According to the report by the human rights group that does research and investigation by direct contacts with the victims, eyewitnesses, media tracking, review of credible local and international reports, interviews and closed sources among other methods, thousands of Christian deaths are attributed to “Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen”.

“The 52,250 Christian deaths in Nigeria in fourteen years recorded addition of 9,250 Christian deaths from the July 2021 figure of 43,000; out of which, Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen accounted for 6,000 Christian deaths and security forces, Jihadist Fulani Bandits, BH, ISWAP, Ansaru and others 3,250,” the report released on Tuesday, April 11, indicates.

“Buhari’s radical Islamism since 2015 had killed 30,250 Christians and attacked 18,000 churches and 2,200 Christian schools,” the authors of the report say, and add that since 2009, “14 million Christians have been uprooted and forced to flee their homes and 800 Christian communities attacked”.

Authors of the Intersociety report say that “Christians of Benue, Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Niger, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Kebbi worst affected in the attacks,” and that Christians living in Eastern Nigeria have been “worst hit in Nigerian military killings and property destructions on ethno-religious grounds.”

“Hypocrisies of Nigerian Christian leaders may turn church buildings into Turkish church monuments in 50 years’ time,” the authors of the report further say, adding, “Progenitors of Christian converts were more protected during the Oracular Period under Pre-Christian Papacy than present.”

In the 2023 investigation, Intersociety researchers found that “no fewer than 1,041 defenseless Christians were hacked to death by Nigeria’s Jihadists in the first 100 days of 2023 or 1st Jan to 10th April 2023.”

Their investigations established that “not less than 380 Christians were slaughtered by Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen in 100 days in Benue, 102 in Kaduna, 150 in Christian parts of Niger State (Paikoro, Munya, Shiroro, Rafi, etc), 100 deaths in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa by BH/ISWAP); 32 Christian deaths in Plateau, 20 in Ondo, 11 in Edo, 10 in Delta as well as Kebbi 10 deaths, Bauchi 9 deaths, Taraba 14 deaths, Katsina 10 deaths, Enugu 6 deaths; and 60 deaths arising from the military killings in the East since Jan 2023 and others 50 deaths.”

“Also, no fewer than 707 Christians were abducted within the same period; out of which Niger State recorded more than 200 abductions including 14th March 2023 abduction of over 100 Christians in Adunu (Paikoro),” the Intersociety researchers say in the report signed by their Board Chair & Lead-Researcher, Emeka Umeagbalasi.

They continue to report that “no fewer than 101 anti-Christian abductions were recorded in Kaduna while other affected States are Katsina, Taraba, Edo, Ogun, Nassarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Borno, Yobe and Adawama (about 60 abductions by BH/ISWAP), Bauchi, Enugu, Imo, Kebbi, Gombe, Bayelsa and Cross River.”

The entity that is comprised of human rights researchers further reports that “no fewer than 50 million Christians majority of them in Northern Nigeria are facing serious threats from Jihadists for being professed Christians; out of which not less than fourteen million have been uprooted and eight million forced to flee their homes to avoid being hacked to death.”

The researchers of the human rights group observe that “Nigerian Christian leaders have abandoned their spiritual calling as defenders of faith and protectors of their faith members and are deeply engrossed in the pursuit of crude material wealth.”

They warn that “if extreme care is not taken to rescue the Christendom and the Church, the churches or church buildings in Nigeria will become the present-day Turkish church monuments in fifty years’ time or less than that.”

The latest Intersociety report also makes reference to its 2022 report , saying, “5,068 Christians (were) hacked to death in 2022 and hundreds disappeared without trace.”

The organization “emotionally” dedicates its investigative report to “1,041 slain and disappeared victims of the Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen and other Jihadists’ genocidal attacks carried out across Nigeria in the first 100 days of 2023.”
PoliticsObidients Or Batists: Who Are The Real Fascists? by BetterHeadline(op): 3:36pm On Apr 15, 2023
It wasn't long ago that our well-respected Noble laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, called well-meaning Nigerians who dares to stand against the impunity of the ruling party APC which was part-founded by the current INEC's president (s)elect fascists. Not only was the abuse uncalled for, it was also wrong. However, if you are inclined to agree with our well-respected prof., then let us help you refresh your memory on the last presidential (s)election, and afterwards you can decide for yourselves who are truly the real fascists.

During the (s)election process, in their bid to annihilate the Igbo, bastist thugs led by a certain MC Oluomo the purported landlord of southwest laid siege on all Christians in Lagos State. Even Christians of Yoruba ethnicity were not spared. They came out to injure and kill Christians.
The batist thugs attacked with broken bottles, knives, cutlasses, and guns, and killed and injured many Christians (the Yoruba ones included.)
Below is a Christian mother of Ijaw ethnicity who was one of the victims. They stabbed her face multiple times. She almost lost her life.
https://businessday.ng/news/article/resilient-lady-votes-after-suffering-election-violence/

Shall we talk about Borno state, the home of the vice-president (s)elect? According to reports, polling units in more than fifty Christians communities were disrupted and more than twenty Christians were gun down for rejecting APC. Twenty-plus Christian lives were wasted just like that by gunmen who were fighting for APC- the batist thugs. In addition to the fact that more than fifty thousand Christians have either been kidnapped or killed under the watch of Tinubu's APC muslim exclusive government, is it, then, really fascist to point out that the presidential (s)election was a religious war against Christian?

Those are not the only highlight of the (s)election. Below are compilation of some Nairaland posts which should also help you decide who the real fascists are:

And these are only scratching the surface of what took place during the presidential (s)election.

Looking at the blatant rigging, ballot snatching, and electoral violence unleashed on the good people of this country, I argue, therefore, that it isn't debatable to identify who the fascists are.

Anyways, I don't want to make this post too long, so I'll stop here. Now you know who the fascists are. Take care.

A 70-year-old grandmother has reportedly had her kneecaps broken by Iranian prison officials in Tehran's notorious Evin jail.

Human rights campaigner Mahvash Sabet Shahriari was said to have been under interrogation by officials when she was inflicted with the barbaric punishment.

She had been serving a 10-year prison sentence in Evin jail for participating in anti-mandatory hijab protests.

SOURCE
The news of the attack emerged from independent Iranian media which said the activist's knees had been broken by an interrogator during questioning.

Evin jail has a brutal reputation for its inhumane living conditions and merciless treatment of its detainees, with prisoners frequently subject to beatings and torture.

Frud Sabet, son of Shahriari, said he was yet to hear of his mother's condition since her initial trial.

He told RFERL Radio Farda : 'The family is very worried about her health. We don't know where she is, and we don't know if she's alive.'

Shahriari, a poet, was seized last summer as part of the Iranian regime's repression of the Baha'i community that saw several community leaders detained.

The Bahaʼi faith is a religion that counts up to eight million members in the world.

It was founded in the 19th century and developed in Iran and other areas of the Middle East, where its members have faced ongoing persecution.

The Islamic Republic of Iran does not recognise the Baha'i faith and the nation's judicial authorities have repeatedly called them 'spies and enemies' and issued death sentences, arrests and prison terms.

Followers are often deprived of education and banned from working, according to Radio Farda, the Iranian branch of the US-government-funded Radio Free Europe.

'We assume that the overcrowding of prisons and courts has affected my mother's fate,' Sabet told RFERL Radio Farda .

'But being completely unaware of her after issuing such a heavy sentence is not justified,' her son added.

Human rights activists and international organisations have repeatedly called out the Iranian authorities for the 'systematic violation of human rights' against members of the Baha'i faith, with widespread arrests and heavy sentences inflicted on them.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has repeatedly called the Baha'i faith a cult and in 2018 issued a religious fatwa.

As well as discrimination against those from the Baha'i faith, other Iranians are not allowed to have contact with them or engage in business with them.
