The Perm. Sec. is incompetent. Period. You can sell your cars anywhere in USA or Canada displaying for sale on the cars; whether residential or not. You can't sell or display a commercial auto sales business just anywhere in USA. There's no local law or edit preventing you from selling or displaying your entire family cars- van for family, cars for dad & mum- at the same time for sale. |

It's like we reside in a state which is trying to make a different laws for itself without due consideration for the federation or other citizens from other states of the federation. When we try to rationalize the ineptitude of this perm. sec, we are giving consent to an illegal operation which derails the free commerce that must exist within the federal states. Some of us here are comparing what is obtainable in a civilized country to how we do things in Nigeria; not that it's not good but, the fact is that they are regulated and are 99% corruption free. The reverse is the case in Nigeria. We need to start from somewhere and the fact of the matter is someone put in charge of a ministry can't just think of a better ways to perform his job without recourse to force. In many areas of Lagos you'll see all these useless auto sellers having no respect for other users of the road all in the name of selling their commodity. There are existing laws in the state that regulates how you are a dealer or the types of license you have to sell any goods for that matter. However, the job of the civil servant is to make sure that those laws are respected. You can't force people to follow a law that's contrary and against the federated states. Lagos is not a different country. How many mechanics do we now see on the roadside since they've been directed to certain areas to carry out their business. We have auto dealers licenses in Lagos and therefore government should know how best to generate revenue and regulate how and where they display those vehicles for sale. they can also put a limit on how many cars an individual is entitled to sell in a year; at most 4 cars. It is not a well conceived idea to ban individuals from selling their properties. They can do what needs to be done to regulate the display of vehicles but should not injure your citizens by way of force. They should also remember that taxes are charged at registration of vehicles and this do not stop the government from taking its shares. |
Friday, July 1, 2011 Vehicles from unauthorised dealers won't be registered - Lagos Sesan Olufowobi The Lagos State Government on Thursday said that vehicles brought into the state through illegal routes and those bought from individuals would henceforth not be registered in the state. advertisement The government said that a tripartite arrangement in the state only allowed individuals to sell their vehicles to members of the public through registered motor vehicle dealers. It added that any vehicle sold outside this arrangement would not be issued the change of ownership title at the Motor Licensing Offices. The Permanent Secretary of Motor Vehicle Administration Agency Mr. Akin Hanson, who made the government position known to journalists, said only vehicles bought from registered auto dealers would henceforth be attended to. "Unregistered individuals willing to sell either registered or fairly used imported vehicle to go through registered dealers as direct sales transaction is unlawful in the state," he said. Hanson also expressed dismay over what he called 'indiscriminate' display of vehicles for sale in the state, adding that the agency would soon begin a crackdown on defaulters. The Permanent Secretary said that the way individuals and auto dealers displayed vehicles for sale at unregistered premises was becoming worrisome. He observed that the act negated the law regulating the activities of motor vehicle and spare parts dealers in the state. Hanson pointed accusing fingers at fuel stations and eateries, which he accused of allowing such display in their premises, describing them as chief culprits. He said, "There are some individual who used roadsides and kerbs to display vehicles illegally. This attitude constitutes a nuisance to the environment, impedes the movement of pedestrians and free flow of the traffic. "Before we act, we will embark on a campaign to enlighten the dealers on the law regulating sales of motor vehicle and spare parts in the state, which we have been discussing at our regular stakeholders' meetings. It would be a sheer pretence for any auto or spare part dealer to feign ignorance of the law regulating the business." The Permanent Secretary warned the auto dealers not to take the 'humane' approach of the government in enforcing the law regulating auto business for granted and warned that the government had the capacity to enforce the law to the letter. He said that the agency would soon publish names of defaulting dealers in the national dailies and then go ahead to prosecute them. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20110701174059
There' s a law banning sales of direct sales transactions? If these are the quotes from this Perm Sec. then the man is really a very corrupt individual knowing the governor we have in the state and he wanting to back-up his ineptitude by implying that the governor had consented to this useless operations. |
mr banji:Please, can you explain to me why the other containers ( Zim) costs more than the ACL? The breakdown for the other two containers seems to suggest that you are charging 270k per car, no? There is a van/bus each on each of those Zim containers. Your information on these will go along way to educating some of us. Regards. |

Why would anyone bringing their personal car(s) into the country go through a registered dealer? If the tax/dues of auto dealers is not getting to the government, there are other ways to get this sorted rather than advocating or using the instrument/power of the government to oppressing the citizens of Lagos. There are other states that are positioned to register these cars. There's no law that ban other states registered vehicles from plying Lagos roads. In my own opinion, this is a very dump idea! |

^^^You are funny sha. How many cars wey u don donate for people like me now. ![]() |
We are able to witness these level of change simply because the Governor cares, loves his people, knows his job and, above all fears God. |
@Poster; Many people don't understand that most of the cars that are salvaged are not totally useless and as such, they become obsessed with "detailed cars" thinking that they are clean cars. My brother/oga had several times on this same NL pointed out why so "clean", clean titled cars inclusive, may not be that great - there are accidents which are not documented - majority of Nigerians buy into this. I also remembered when he pointed to a dealer on this forum who drew an over exaggerated pictures of a roll over car. There are millions of salvaged cars in North America and they are approved to be driven. There was a time he bought a car that had a bullet pass through it and was titled irrepairable; just because the bullet chattered the glass; i mean a very expensive high-end car. Most of the cars i've sold here were shown with the auction pictures and some novice thinks they are not clean just because there were not detailed as yet when i attached the pictures. The bottom line is that one owner or multiple owners clean carfax history are not cheap as most Nigerians wants; i like it when not expensive but have quality, too. Simply put, test drive whatever you wanna buy on the local market. As the poster put it, there are good bodymen and there are butcher-bodymen in Nigeria. Same apply to America. If you want to pre-order do so. If you can't risk your money, please buy "Nigeria cleared tokunbo". |
It's very important for you to ask for the copy of the Bill of Laden as someone suggested. Track the movement yourself. Try to see if your desired car is also listed on the B/L. Shipping line in Canada and USA charges differently for their services. When it comes to RoRo ( a situation where your vehicle is secured solely on a ship ), i personally ship through USA. When it involves multiple cars, it depends on how fast or the process that each shipping lines use. It is very likely, if your friend is saying the truth, that there was a delay. Zim line is the worst on this - recently, though, i shipped a container through them from Toronto and it was a miracle, like, it berth less than 3wks after sailing. |
^^^Well said. I should like to know the answer too. It always baffles me when things like this happens. Don't enter into any buying when the price is too cheap, please! It costs $1,350 to ship a single car; just the shipping. I'm saying this because someone contacted to buy and ship a baby boy with leather for $2,000. Awuff dey kill ooo. |

We are wasteful people. See what the speaker earns in Canada and the other things that comes with the office and compare it to 9ja. The job of Speaker comes with some heavy responsibilities, but there are some enviable perks that go along with it. He or she gets a car and driver, an apartment in Parliament Hill’s Centre Block, a beautiful, 19th-century farmhouse in Gatineau Park, a sizeable budget for entertaining, and a paycheque worth about $233,000. These people thinks only of today and themselves; nothing more. |
Am Alone: You are doing a very quality work for less money; it shows so very well even in the pictures. Good luck, and God speed. |
