Zulum on 4th visit to remote Kala-Balge; 10,000 households get food items ... Zulum wants Wulgo community resettled ... Borno Governor meets Soldiers in Rann, Wulgo Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has led the distribution of food and non food items to 10,000 households living in Rann, headquarters of the Kala-Balge, the remotest local government area of the state. The latest visit was the fourth by the governor to the local government that shares border with the Cameroon Republic. Zulum was flown from Maiduguri to Rann, onboard a military chopper, on Sunday May 31, 2020. The Governor who had made three previous similar trips, the first being in June, 2019, few days after coming into office, when he undertook the need assessment of public facilities and subsequently ordered construction works. He was later to return in December 2019 to distribute cash to 15,000 widows. Zulum was soon back to Kala-Balge in February this year to distribute N100 million cash to 10,000 trapped families. During the latest visit on Sunday, Zulum supervised the distribution of relief items to mostly women and aged men amongst other vulnerable persons in need, with about 300 Nigerians taking refuge in the Republic of Cameroon who returned to Rann benefiting from the gesture. Each of the beneficiaries received a bag of 50kg Maize grain, two cartons of spaghetti, two bags of 10kg rice and a-3 liters cooking oil, while female beneficiaries got wrappers in addition to the food items. Residents in Rann have since mid last year been trapped without road access to farmlands due to the flood from a dam, this forced Nigerians in Rann to resort to neighboring Cameroon Republic for livelihoods. Governor Zulum at a press briefing after the exercise, acknowledged food contributions from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Dangote Foundation. He said: “I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, for all that he has been doing towards repositioning the northeast. "I also wish to express my appreciation to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Northeast Development Commission, as well as NEMA and Dangote Foundation, all of them have contributed to the success of this excersice." ... Zulum wants Wulgo community resettled Meanwhile, after his food distribution exercise, Governor Zulum traveled to Wulgo, a border community, to assess the destruction caused by the Boko Haram insurgents. The assessment of Wulgo, acording to Governor Zulum, was preparatory to resettlement of thousands of IDPs from the community currently staying at formal and informal camps in Gamboru town of Ngala LGA. The governor said: “The aim of our visit here is to assess the town with a view to resetting back the community. We will have an interface with the community, I think the first thing we will do is to clear the town.” Zulum then proceeded to Gamboru Ngala where he passed the night, during which he interfaced with the Internally displaced persons from different communities. ... Borno Governor meets Soldiers in Rann, Wulgo Also during his visit, Governor Zulum while in Rann and Wulgo, paid visits to military formations in the two towns in order to boost their morale. During the visits, Zulum presented 250 bags of 50 kg rice,10 bags of 50kg sugar, 200 cartons of noodles, 500 cartons of sphagetti, cooking oil and cash to each of the formations.

The Nigerian Army on Monday 1st of June 2020 flagged off a joint Operation called ‘OPERATION ACCORD’ in Sanga LGA of Kaduna State. The operation was flagged off to neutralize and destroy all bandits and militia groups and their hideouts in the North West and North Central zones.

NIGERIAN NAVY RELEASES NEW APPOINTMENTS OF SENIOR OFFICERS The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas has approved new appointments of some senior officers in the Nigerian Navy. The major reshufflement affected a total of 110 senior officers, consisting of 33 Rear Admirals and 77 Commodores. The new Chief of Policy and Plans Naval Headquarters is Rear Admiral Ifeola Mohammed. Rear Admiral Obi Ofodile, formerly Director of Plans Defence Headquarters has been reappointed to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Administration while Rear Admiral Matthew Emuekpere, formerly Deputy Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, moves to Naval Headquarters as Chief of Naval Transformation. Rear Admiral Ahamefule Eluwa who was a Directing Staff at National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru-Jos, resumes as Admiral Superintendent Naval Doctrine and Assessment Centre. The re-organization also affected Rear Admiral Segun Adebari who has been posted to Defence Headquarters as Director of Plans from Nigerian Navy Holdings Limited. Rear Admiral Abubakar Al-Hassan, formerly Director of Development Defence Headquarters has been appointed as Admiral Superintendent Naval Ordnance Depot, while Rear Admiral Francis Isaac is the new Navy Secretary at Naval Headquarters. Rear Admiral Abdullahi Adamu, the immediate past Admiral Superintendent Naval Ordnance Depot, moves to Defence Headquarters as Director of Search and Rescue. Rear Admiral Maurice Eno, who was the Admiral Superintendent Naval Doctrine and Assessment Centre, has been posted to Defence Headquarters as Director of Development. #PressBriefing UPDATE ON ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA OPERATIONS FROM 6 TO 28 MAY 2020 1. The Armed Forces of Nigeria is conducting major operations across the country as you are aware. In this regard, regular update of our efforts and progress need to be disseminated for the awareness of the general public. I am to state that these joint operations by the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies have considerably degraded the common enemies of Nigeria and reduced economic sabotage. This update will cover our operational activities from 6 to 28 May 2020. OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE 2. Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria operating in various theatres across the Country recorded tremendous successes within the period under review. In Operation LAFIYA DOLE, several members of the Boko Haram Terrorists/ISWAP (BHT) fighters and senior commanders were neutralized and their logistics facilities, gun trucks and other structures destroyed as well as recovery of weapons. Within the period under review, a total of 188 BHT/ISWAP fighters were killed and several others suffered various degrees of gunshot wounds with narrow chances of survival. This is in addition to several others killed in air bombardments. The troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE also rescued several civilians – women and children, who were abducted by the terrorists. The total number rescued within this period is 236. The victims have undergone medical checkups and treatments at our health facilities. OPERATION HADARIN DAJI 3. Troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI have in various clearance operations neutralized 392 armed bandits and destroyed some of their dwellings and logistics warehouses within the period under review at Dunya, Abu Radde’s Camp and Ibrahim Mai Bai’s Camp in Jibia and Danmusa Local Government Areas of Katsina State as well as Maikomi and Kurmin Kurain Birnin Magaji and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. This is in addition to several others killed by air bombardments. Also, the air interdiction led to destruction of several logistics facilities and compounds, housing some key bandits’ leaders. Human intelligence report confirmed the casualty figures. OPERATION WHIRL PUNCH 4. In Operation WHIRL PUNCH during the period under review, 19 armed bandits were killed in Benue and Taraba States. The gallant troops also carried out a raid operation on a criminal hideout off Zaki Biam and Katsina-Ala highway where a notorious armed robber Terugwa Igbagwa alias Orjondu was killed. Troops also recovered large cache of arms and ammunition within the period under review. The killing of Orjondu has brought a great relief to the good people of Benue State and some parts of Taraba State. He was the mastermind of various civilian deaths including kidnapping and assassinations. Equally, notorious militia leader Gana narrowly escaped with injuries when his hideout was raided. MARITIME OPERATIONS 5. Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER Patrol Team, on 26 May 20, conducted Anti-Crude oil theft/anti-illegal bunkering operations around Briakiri off Onne and Abise community off Abonema Akukutoru Local Government Area of Rivers state. During the operations, the team located 2 illegal refining sites with 4 storage tanks laden with estimated 400,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined AGO. The products were impounded while two pumping machines were recovered to the base. No arrest was made as the perpetrators fled on sighting the patrol team. 6. In the same vein, Nigerian Navy Ship DELTA, on 25 May 20, intercepted a wooden boat and a speed boat around Ilaopashe, Bennett island and Lokpobri communities in Warri and Burutu South Local Government Areas of Delta State. The team located 4 illegal refining sites with 14 dug-out pits, 32 surface metal storage tanks and 43 ovens laden with about 628.98 barrels of suspected stolen crude oil as well as 72,000.00 litres of product suspected to be illegally refined AGO. Likewise the team located a 3-inch pipe and associated fittings close to NPDC pipeline around Bennett Island, suspected to have been laid by crude oil thieves. Subsequently, the team disconnected the pipes and fittings. The storage facilities were dismantled while the speed boat was recovered to the base. 7. Similarly, the Forward Operating Base IBAKA on 26 May 2020 while on routine patrol around Ewang Creek intercepted and arrested a medium size wooden boat laden with drums of products suspected to be stolen PMS with 2 suspects. Suspects and items recovered from the arrest include 49,000.00 litres of products suspected to be stolen PMS. The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will soon be handed over to the relevant prosecuting agency. Furthermore, within the period under review, the Nigerian Navy in furtherance of its quest to secure our Exclusive Economic Zone, and the Gulf of Guinea rescued a Chinese fishing trawler HAILUFENG 11, rescued 18 crewed and arrested 10 sea pirates. 8. In summary, the Armed Forces of Nigeria from 6 to 28 May 2020 neutralized 188 BHT/ISWAP criminals in the North East, killed 392 bandits in the North West and 20 bandits/armed militia in the North Central parts of the Country amongst other successes recorded. Suffice it to say that human and technical intelligence confirmed that between 6 to 28 May several BHT/ISWAP criminals as well as bandits/armed militia were killed due to our ground and air offensives. 9. Thus, the Military High Command congratulates all the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force and personnel of other security agencies involved in various operations across the country. It equally appreciates the general public for providing credible information that facilitated the successes of various operations. Furthermore, it enjoins the public to be proactive in the provision of timely information by reporting suspicious movements and strangers within their locality to military operations headquarters in their areas. The Armed Forces of Nigeria assures that the offensives against the enemies of this great Nation will not cease until peace is restored to every troubled region of the Country. TERROR WAR: REMARKABLE VICTORY FOR NIGERIAN MILITARY AS TROOPS CONTINUE TO DISLODGE TERRORISTS CAMPS IN THE NORTH EAST * 20 More terrorists Neutralized, 241 Abductees Rescue In continuation with the war on terror in the North East Theatre of Operation, Sector 1 troops Operation LAFIYA DOLE have continued with long range fighting patrols and ambushes across their area of responsibility with commendable successes been achieved by neutralizing more Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, arms and Ammunition recoveries and in some cases kidnapped victims were largely Freed. Specifically, in the ongoing operation "KANTANA JIMLAN", based on credible intelligence exposing the hideouts of some BH/ISWAP terrorists, troops of Army Super Camp 11 Gamboru, led by the Commanding Officer of 3 Battalion had on the 23rd of May 2020 conducted long range fighting patrol to clear identified terrorists' camps or settlements around Rann general area. During the operation, contact was made with the terrorists which led to an exchange of fire which resulted in the extermination of five (5) terrorists and the capture of the following items: 2 x motorcycles, 2 x bicycles, 1 x amplifier, 1 x battery, 2 x sewing machines and 4 x BHTs' flags. Additionally, the troops moved further to a recently identified Boko Haram terrorists' infested settlement - Mudu village where 241 kidnapped victims - comprising of 105 women and 136 children were rescued from terrorists' captivity. The village and other surrounding terrorists' camps were equally destroyed by the courageous troops. However, strenuous efforts to locate the terrorists' armoury in the general area was unsuccessful as the Armourer had escaped before the arrival of the forces. In the encounters, twelve (12) Boko Haram terrorists met their Waterloo during the battle at terrorists' settlement at mudu general area. Similarly, on the 24th of May 2020, troops of 151 Battalion staged a successful night ambush operation at a recently identified terrorists crossing point at Firgi, where contact was made which led to an intense battle that resulted in the death of three (3) BHTs and several others were obviously wounded which forced them to abandon two motor cycles. In the same vein, following BHTs' attack on military location on the 27th of May 2020, troops of 155 Battalion Banki Junction, carried out exploitation operation towards Sambisa forest in pursuit of fleeing BHTs. The dogged efforts of the troops yielded uncommon success as two (2) terrorists dead bodies, heavy cache of assorted arms, ammunition and other equipment were recovered. The recovered items are: 1 x Cobra APC, 1 x Dushka Anti Aircraft Gun, 1 x AK 47 rifle, 1 x FN rifle and 3 x Hand Grenades. Others are 2 x AK 47 magazines, 1 x FN rifle magazine, 78 x rounds of 12.7mm AA ammunition, 25 x rounds of 7.62mm special, 25 x rounds of locally fabricated Ak 47 rifle and a blanket. In summary, the number of BHTs neutralised and items captured are: 1. 20 x BH/ISWAP terrorists - were forced to permanent sleep 2. 1 x Cobra APC 3. 1 x Dushka AA Gun 4. 1 x AK 47 Rifle 5. 1 x FN Rifle 6. 3 x Hand Grenades 7. 2 x AK 47 Rifle magazines 8. 1 x FN Rifle Magazine 9. 78 x Rounds of 12.7mm AA ammunition 10. 25 x Rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition 11. 25 x Rounds of locally fabricated ammunition 12. 2 x Motorcycle 13. 4 x Bicycles 14. 1 x Amplifier 15. 1 x Battery 16. 2 x Sewing Machines 17. 4 x BHTs' Flags 18. 241 x Civilians Rescued (105 x Women and 136 x Children) The Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Maj Gen Faruk Yahaiya has commended the troops of the Sector for their sustained successes and urged other Sectors to brace up to ensure the speedy defeat of terrorism in Nigeria. Gen Faruk also conveyed the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai to the troops for their uncommon hard work and dedication and assured them of the Chief of Army Staff's unflinching support at all times and urged them to maintain the momentum to the very end.
