Revealed: 30 Top Boko Haram Commanders Set To Surrender, Shekau Confused No less than 30 top Boko Haram commanders have sent words to their leader, Abubakar Shekau, that they will drop their arms and surrender to the Nigerian Armed Forces soon. The verbal message sent through one of Shekau’s close contacts by the Boko Haram top fighters is said to have devastated the BH leader who has been experiencing terrible outings in recent times and has been hard put trying to convince the top commanders to stay. The top commanders are said to have moved ahead and begun a process that would see them surrendering to the Nigerian armed forces soon by fortifying their bunkers in case Shekau sends his men after them. Feedbacks from sources who have had dealings with the Boko Haram terrorists in recent times have it that most of the operational commanders of the sect are not happy with their leader for not honouring his promise to surrender to the Nigerian military. Shekau had in March, following the near annihilation of his fighting men given an indication that he will be willing to surrender to the Nigerian military if only to save his life and that of his men only for him to dilly dally on the matter which has incurred the wrath of his top commanders. More than 40 of the Boko Haram top commanders including including Manzar Halid, Amir Abu Fatima and Nicap, among others were killed last week in a counter attack by the operation Lafiya Dole in what is now a clear indication that the terrorists have been overwhelmed. High profile commanders and fighters of the Boko Haram namely, Abu Jamratu AL-Naweer, Kaka Bana and Tareta Babakari were also fatally wounded in that operation when Boko Haram terrorists attempted to overrun Banki and other communities in Borno State. A large number of their equipments , including gun trucks, motorcycles and bicycles were destroyed also by troops. |

NAF MAKES HISTORY AS IT RECORDS FIRST ALL-FEMALE CREW ON OPERATIONAL ISR MISSION The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has again made history with the conduct of an operational Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission by an all-female crew. The mission, which was conducted on 28 May 2020 using the NAF Beechcraft KingAir ISR aircraft, had Flying Officers Oluwabunmi Ijelu and Genevieve Nwaogwugwu as Captain and Co-Pilot, respectively, with Sergeant Njoku Patience as the Airborne Tactical Observation System (ATOS) mission operator and Lance Corporal Shawulu Godiya as the on-board technician. It is noteworthy that Flying Officer Ijelu is the first female officer to become a Captain on a NAF aircraft. The aircraft was also marshaled by a female Marshaller, Aircraftwoman David Precious. The mission, which was preceded by the customary pre-flight briefing, originated from the 307 Executive Airlift Group (307 EAG), at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport and covered selected areas of interest in Niger State and its environs, where intelligence that would support NAF air interdiction missions as well as the operations of ground forces was gathered. The Commander 307 EAG, Air Commodore Francis Edosa, while welcoming the all-female crew from the mission, applauded them for displaying a high level of professionalism. He remarked that the feat was only made possible as a result of the commitment of Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to providing a level playing field for all personnel, whether male or female, to thrive and realize their dreams and aspirations in service to the Nation. This, he said, had translated into tangible positive results. He therefore thanked the CAS for giving the female personnel the opportunity to prove their worth in hitherto male-dominated specialties in the NAF. Within the past 4 and half years of the current NAF leadership, there has been a surge in the involvement of female personnel in areas that were previously the preserve of men. Five female pilots have been winged within the period, bringing the total number of female pilots in the NAF to 7. Many other female officers and airwomen are excelling in their various fields of specialization including Regiment and Special Forces, Aircraft/Armament Engineers and Technicians as well as Air Traffic Controllers, amongst others. The NAF’s objective in this regard is to maximize all of the potentials of Nigeria’s vast human resource pool, male and female, to ensure the effective, efficient and timely employment of Air Power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives. TERROR WAR: BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS LOSE HIGH RANKING COMMANDERS & EQUIPMENT, SCORES NEUTRALIZED Following Boko Haram terrorists' failed attack on troops' location at Banki Junction and Response Area Firgi from the 7 Division Strike Group and the subsequent fierce battle with the terrorists on the 26th of May 2020, credible information from reliable sources have comfirmed the death of some high ranking Commanders of the Abubakar Shekau's faction of the BH terrorist' group. Some of the notorious BHTs Commanders that met their waterloo during the operation include Manzar Halid, Amir Abu Fatima and Nicap among several others. Reliable information further confirmed the extermination of Seventy two members of the sect while many others were injured including some high profile Commanders and fighters like Abu Jamratu AL-Naweer, Kaka Bana and Tareta babakari. Additionally, a large number of their equipment including many gun trucks, motorcycles and bicycles were equally destroyed by troops in collaboration with the Air Task Force during BHT’s withdrawal in disarray. Further credible information indicate BHTs are in chaos and currently unable to conduct any serious deliberate offensive action as a result of their recent losses in terms of personnel and equipment. The blockade of their spy routes, networks, crossing points and logistics supplies had further crippled the terrorists and heavily limited their freedom of action to the advantage of the federal forces. 2 June 2020 |
CAS COMMISSIONS ADDITIONAL RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION IN OWERRI, COMMENDS PERSONNEL FOR ADDING VALUE TO SECURITY ARCHITECTURE IN SOUTH EAST In furtherance of its commitment to ensure accommodation sufficiency for its personnel to enable them perform their statutory role of defending the territorial integrity of the Country effectively and efficiently, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 2 June 2020, commissioned an additional block of 18 x single bedroom accommodation for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) at the 211 Quick Response Group (211 QRG), NAF Base Owerri, Imo State. Speaking during the commissioning, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, noted that the newly-built and furnished NCOs’ accommodation was aimed at boosting troops’ performance through the provision of conducive working environment and decent living conditions. The CAS disclosed that the 211 QRG Owerri as well as the QRGs in Gusau, Zamfara State and Ipetu-Ijesha, Osun State, were established in 2016 under the SOC, following a careful assessment of the internal security challenges facing the Nation at that time, with the objective of adding value to existing architecture to tackle the security threats in the South East, North West and South West Zones of the Country, working in synergy with other security agencies. He noted that the decision was taken based on the conviction that only highly-trained, well-equipped and properly quartered personnel would be effective in dealing with such security threats. He said the fact that the 211 QRG had contributed significantly to dealing with militancy, bunkering, kidnapping and other forms of criminality in Imo State as well as other parts of the South East Geo-political Zone proved that the decision was worthwhile. He therefore commended personnel of the Unit and urged them to continue to work tirelessly, along with other security agencies, to ensure the protection of citizens of the State. Air Marshal Abubakar added that, to achieve more operational bite, the Unit would be supported whenever the need arises with helicopter gunships and other air assets in order to be effective in ensuring that the people of the Region are safe and secured. He stated that the other ongoing projects that were at various levels of completion would also be commissioned to further ease the accommodation problems in the Unit. While thanking the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for providing the resources being expended to improve personnel welfare, the CAS enjoined personnel to appreciate the facilities the Service had provided for them by ensuring that they are well maintained and responsibly utilized. He further charged them to remain law abiding citizens and good ambassadors of the NAF by maintaining good relationships with their host communities and other security agencies in the State. Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 211 QRG, Group Captain Elisha Bindul, stated that the newly commissioned residential accommodation would ease accommodation deficiency in the Unit as well as further motivate personnel to continue to put in their best to enhance the collective operational capacity for the attainment of the NAF’s objectives. He assured the CAS of the commitment of the personnel of the Unit to continually strive to ensure that the NAF lives up to its constitutional responsibilities. Also present at the commissioning ceremony were the Director of Works, Headquarters NAF, the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army and the Commandant Nigerian Navy Finance and Logistics College as well as other invited guests.
