NAF CONDUCTS SHOW OF FORCE FOR ENHANCED SECURITY OF COMMUTERS ON KADUNA-ABUJA EXPRESSWAY

In an effort to support more effective security measures along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted a “Show of Force” Exercise in Katari village, one of the identified criminal hotspots along the Route. The exercise, which combined aerial and ground operations by NAF Special Forces (SF) and Regiment personnel, is intended to send a stern warning signal to criminal elements, that the NAF and other security agencies are ready to engage them both from the air and on ground to frustrate their nefarious activities. Two armed helicopters, along with 50 fully armed personnel, were deployed for the exercise, which simulated a rummage where the SF stormed a criminal hideout and arrested some suspects who were flown away for further interrogation.

The Team Leader and Commanding Officer of the Regiment Wing, 453 Base Services Group NAF Kaduna, Wing Commander Leonard Onugha, while addressing the men after the exercise, said the NAF, in collaboration with other security agencies, is doing all it can to ensure a safe corridor for commuters who ply the Kaduna-Abuja Highway. He therefore urged all well meaning Nigerians to go about their legitimate businesses and report any suspicious activities or persons to the security agencies.

Certain portions of Kaduna-Abuja Highway have been susceptible to the activities of armed robbers and kidnappers, who randomly attack and kidnap commuters for ransom and rituals. In compliance with the directives of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the NAF, as part of its constitutional role of providing aid to Civil Authority, will sustain aerial surveillance and armed vehicular patrols along the Highway and Rail line to consolidate ongoing efforts to ensure safe travels for law-abiding citizens.

I still wonder why all our things in this country always have K-leg someone should correct me if I'm wrong, is it a sin if the authorities do a radical change with respect to weaponry just negodu the kinda rifle NA marksmen are using abi are we under international arms embargo ne? me I don't understand oo, is it a taboo to use sophisticated sniper rifle such as Blaser R93, Saki TRG etc, if it is too expensive to rearm the entire military with a grade A-weapon such as Tavor series/ M series or a higher version of Kalashnikovs, it shouldn't be difficult to properly equip a small specialized unit such as the Snipers. We're quick to raise shoulders as giant if Africa but honestly we can't face the Egyptian or Algerian army in warfare, South Africa is even out if it sef. I think it's high time the FG do government to government purchase of equipments if sourcing same from third parties is proofing difficult or better still outsource the reorganization of the military to the Russians or Israelis ( that is if pride will allow us) Saudi and Egypt did same, even with the level of expertise of the Israelis they still do collabo with USA, India and even codedly with Russians.
We should sign the godammn bilateral agreement ( a serious one oo) with any of the world powers.

Until we do away of some old top brass in our military files. We need young minds

Helos are perfect for such missions, using alpha jets esp the F7s will not make much impact because of its speed and endurance in air(that piece of shit is a fuel guzzler) a helicopter can easily hover over the bandits from a safe altitude and rain hell on them. But I wonder why they use Agusta for such missions maybe they consider it not to be a high risk operation, that chopper esp that variant is at best a transport helicopter, with no guided munition, infact that mounted gun is an addon by NAF technicians( no be follow come), what about the beast (Mi 35)? seems like NAF don't rate those bandits as to waste high caliber munitions on them.

EXERCISE EGWU EKE III CONTINUES TO ACHIEVE SUCCESSES IN 6 DIVISION AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

In continuation of Ex EGWU-EKE III in 6 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), troops of 29 Battalion Port Harcourt on 5th February 2019 clamped down on suspected armed robbers/kidnappers in Ukpelede community, Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.

The sting operation was conducted following an intelligence report on the criminal activities of armed robbers and kidnappers in Ahoada West and along the ever busy East-West Road and its environs which has recently disrupted free flow of activities in the general area.

The suspected kidnappers who on sighting the troops fired frantically and scampered for their lives were pursued by the gallant troops. Consequently, one of the kidnappers was gunned down while others fled into the nearby bush.

Items recovered during the operation include; One Motorcycle, Twelve live Cartridges, One cult-like Axe, One Cutlass, Two Masks and One Nokia phone. Four civilian victims were also rescued in the course of the operation.

Body of the gunned down suspected kidnapper, 4 rescued civilians and the items recovered have since been handed over to the appropriate authority.

Similarly, troops deployed to checkmate anti illegal oil bunkering activities at the 29 Battalion Tactical Headquarters, Bille in Degema LGA Rivers State in conjunction with other security agencies on February 5th 2019, discovered and destroyed Six illegal refineries in the area. The team also impounded an empty barge suspected to be used in carrying illegally refined products around the area.

In a similar vein, troops of 16 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA) conducted a successful raid operation on 6th February 2019 in Gbaraun community of Southern Ijaw LGA where two of the most wanted criminals, Napoleon AKA Abala 2ic and Tompolo’s boat driver believed to be the masterminds of many kidnappings and cult related killings in Bayelsa State were neutralized. During the operation, two AK 47 riffles were recovered. Other items recovered include; One pump Action Gun, One locally made gun, 57 rounds of 7.62mm special, 30 rounds of 5.56mm, three live Cartridges, two empty AK 47 magazines and one fiber boat.

Additionally, the Brigade in collaboration with other security agencies in Bayelsa State has continued to conduct aggressive confidence building and anti pipeline vandalism patrols in Yenagoa and other flash points around the environs to further deny criminal elements freedom of action.

CAS VISITS AZERBAIJAN, SEEKS PARTNERSHIP IN TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT OF MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has led a delegation of senior Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers on a visit to Azerbaijan to seek strategic partnership in capacity building and development of Nigeria's military industrial complex with a view to further boosting NAF’s operational effectiveness in the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminality in the country. The visit, which took place from 5 - 8 February 2019, was on the invitation of the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Defence and Commander of the Azerbaijan Air Force (AzAF), Lieutenant General Ramiz Tahirov, who, along with other senior officers from AzAF, hosted the CAS and conducted him on a tour of facilities at the Gala Air Base and the Aviation Repair Factory located in Nasosna Air Base, where the AzAF carries out up to 4th Line Maintenance of aircraft in its inventory. One of the immediate benefits of the visit is the acceptance by the AzAF to provide simulator training slots for NAF pilots on the Mi-35M Helicopter and L-39ZA aircraft. The first set of NAF pilots are expected to commence their simulator training before the end of February 2019.

The CAS was accompanied on the visit by the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Peter Uzezi, Chief of Logistics Headquarters NAF, AVM Aminu Yakubu, the Chief of Staff Air Training Command, Ayoola Jolasinmi, the Deputy Director of Training HQ NAF, Air Commodore Esen Efanga as well as Nigeria's Defence Adviser to Islamabad, Brigadier General Nasiru Mukhtar.

TROOPS NEUTRALISE SCORES OF BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS

1. In continuation of the fight to rout the remnants of the Insurgents in the North East, troops of Sector 3, Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed in Mallam Fatori, on Thursday 7 February 2019 at about 6:00 am neutralised and wounded several members of the Boko Haram Insurgents during a fire fight .The Insurgents who were lured from their hide out in Tumbun Gini to a place very close to the defensive location of own troops ,
came with 10 gun trucks and motocycles . During the fire fight the Insurgents were overpowered and several of them neutralised. Some who tried to escape with 3 gun trucks to the Tumbus were given hot pursuit and many more killed by the Nigeria Air force.

2. A cache of arms and ammunitions including an Anti Aircraft Gun, AK 47 Rifles, Rocket propelled Grenade Tubes, bombs and chargers were recovered from the terrorists. Other items recovered included various some quantities of 12.7 millimetre ammunitions, 7.62 millimetre ammunitions, magazines, links and Bandolier jackets.

3. This is the second time within 5 days that troops of Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE gave the Boko Haram Insurgents a bloody nose. First was on 2 February 2019 at the same location where the Insurgents suffered heavy casualties.

4. This is coming on the heels of the morale boosting visit of the Commander sector 3 who was in Mallam Fatori with the troops on Tuesday 4 February to encourage them and attend to their challenges. He equally reminded the troops that would always excel when they subordinate their interest to those of the Nigerian Army and the nation. He therefore, urged them to continue to give their loyalty and commitment to the nation at all times.

5. He further requested the general public to always report the presence of suspected Insurgents to the nearest military unit for prompt action.

Yeah... why the Alpha jets where not Called in first, the helicopter made them to flee in defferent directions. A jet strike should be 1st or a precision weaponry from an helicopter, then heavy guns/rockets from an helicopter gunship can do the remaining mopping-up operation of fleeing bandits.
It's like the NAF does not want to waste it's munition on anti-banditry operations.
These are the helicopter platforms deployed to the North central/western states.

NAF INTENSIFIES BOMBARDMENT OF ARMED BANDITS’ HIDEOUTS, DESTROYS TRUCK, NEUTRALIZES SEVERAL BANDITS AT COMPOUND IN RUGU FOREST ZAMFARA STATE

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation DIRAN MIKIYA has intensified the bombardment of armed bandits’ hideouts in Zamfara State and environs. The air strikes were preceded by days of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, initiated based on credible Human Intelligence reports, which led to the identification of several camps being used by the bandits to launch attacks against innocent civilians.

One of the air interdiction missions was conducted at dawn today, 7 February 2019, at a location in Rugu Forest South of Gurbin Baure, where some armed bandits were seen assembled by a logistics truck parked near their compound-hideout. The ATF dispatched a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) attack helicopter and an Alpha Jet to engage the bandits’ truck and compound. Overhead the target area, the bandits were seen dispersing in different directions with some attempting to make a getaway in the truck. The helicopter strafed the moving truck in successive passes immobilizing it and neutralizing its occupants. The Alpha Jet simultaneously attacked the compound and destroyed one of the huts harbouring the bandits, which was seen engulfed in flames. Credible Intelligence sources later revealed that several bandits were killed as a result of the attack.

The NAF, working in close coordination with surface forces and other security agencies, will sustain its reconnaissance and air interdiction missions to neutralize the armed bandits and deny them freedom of action in the area.

I also wish to thank the Nigerian nation for the wonderful opportunity to serve the country and humanity in various capacities for over three decades.

I am leaving highly fulfilled after contributing my best to national development, the Nigerian Army, gaining great wealth of knowledge, experience, inestimable network of friends which I will treasure forever. I mean according to SIPRI we ordered 12 Mi17 and 12 mi35 from Russia in 2014/2015 it’s been 4 years now and we have only received Mi35, we are all aware that PMB admin renegotiated the arms deals we had with Russia so it’s possible the Mi17 was canceled or moved to a later date, which means greater priority was places in Mi35.

2019 will be a very interesting year for NAF, apart from the 6 brand new Aw109M (from Italy) and additional Mi-35M (from Russia), periodic depot maintenance and life extension program on legacy platforms such as the dornier Do-228, Mi-35p, Alpha jets and C-130 will also be reaching advanced stages of completion. This will increase serviceability and tremendously boost the ability of NAf.

We will also get important updates on the procurement and delivery schedule for 12 A29 super Tucanos and unknown number of JF17 thunder.

Just Incase you’re wondering who will man these platforms, Note that as part of the massive human capacity development initiative by NAF, The NAF has winged 92 pilots in the last three years alone, while 45 other student pilots are currently undergoing training both within and outside the country. Worthy of particular mention is the female officer undergoing training in the United States of America to become the first female fighter pilot in the history of the NAF.

This is in addition to massive recruitment drive which has seen the NAF recruited 7,244 young Nigerians as airmen/airwomen and 400 young graduates as officers, in the last three years.

PERSONNEL WELFARE: NAF COMMISSIONS NEWLY RENOVATED BUILDINGS FOR PERSONNEL IN ABUJA

As part of continued efforts geared towards improving the welfare of personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for effective and efficient service delivery, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, yesterday, 4 February 2019, commissioned 5 newly renovated buildings for Senior Non-commissioned Officers (SNCOs) at the NAF Base, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja. The blocks of flats, which had been in varying states of disrepair prior to the assumption of office by the current NAF leadership, were renovated with the aim of sustaining maintenance culture and prudent management of resources in the NAF.

Speaking during the event, the CAS, who was represented by the Director of Administration, Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Nelson Calmday, stated that prior to July 2015, records in the Administration Branch indicated that the NAF had 45 per cent sufficiency of accommodation for personnel. However, as at December 2018, accommodation sufficiency in the NAF had increased to 65 per cent with an additional 3 per cent of personnel receiving lodging allowances. The CAS noted that the 68 per cent accommodation sufficiency rate recorded within three and half years was achieved despite the fact that an unprecedented number of personnel, over 7,500 airmen/airwomen and 400 officers, had been recruited into the NAF within the period. Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the momentum of infrastructural development would be sustained to ensure that personnel are adequately accommodated in order to be more effective in the performance of their duties. He urged the beneficiaries of the renovated accommodations to put them to good use whilst ensuring they are properly maintained.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commander 053 Headquarters NAF Camp, Air Commodore Abubakar Yusuf, thanked the CAS for always placing premium on the welfare of personnel. He noted that welfare related projects that had been executed in Abuja included the establishment of a new NAF Base at Asokoro, Abuja in March 2017, as well as the construction of new accommodation blocks at the Bill Drive NAF Base. He noted that these actions had drastically reduced the accommodation challenges facing personnel in Abuja. As a result, he said, virtually all airmen/airwomen who were formerly living in rented accommodation had been relocated into the barracks. The Commander disclosed that work would soon commence on the renovation of the NAF blocks in Mogadishu Cantonment as well as 3 more blocks and major roads at the NAF Base, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja, which had been approved by the CAS.
