TROOPS INTERCEPT FLEEING BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS AT PULKA

Fleeing Boko Haram terrorists attempting to escape from military onslaught in Sambisa forest, through Pulka were intercepted and decisively dealt with by troops in blocking position in the area.

During the encounter many of the terrorists were killed while one was captured alive. The troops also recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun, several rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunitions, 47 rifle magazines, 36 hand grenades and quite a number of Shilka gun empty shells.

In a related development, troops have also dealt another decisive blow to the Boko Haram terrorists at Buni Yadi general area today afternoon. At an encounter, the troops recovered a Toyota Hilux, 2 boxes of 7.62mm ammunitions and some Improvised Explosive making Devices cords.

CAS CONDUCTS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO KANO, COMMISSIONS MODULAR THEATRE AT 465 NAF HOSPITAL

In compliance with presidential directives to move to operational areas in the Northeast and Northwest of the country, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, yesterday, 8 December 2018, undertook an operational visit to Kano to assess the levels of preparedness of the 403 Flying Training School (403 FTS) and 465 Nigerian Air Force Hospital (465 NAFH) to support operations in both theatres. At the 403 FTS, the CAS inspected ongoing reactivation work on 3 NAF L-39ZA aircraft, which is aimed at boosting NAF’s training capacity while also enhancing its air power capability for Counter Insurgency (COIN) operations in the Northeast and anti-armed banditry operations in the Northwest.‬ The CAS‪ also commissioned the newly equipped state-of-the-art Modular Operating Theatre at 465 NAFH. The theatre, which is the first of its kind in Northwest Nigeria, was completed in furtherance of the CAS’ resolve to ensure personnel and their families have access to world-class medical services.

Speaking during the visit, the CAS restated NAF's commitment to providing its personnel and their families with comprehensive healthcare facilities for enhanced wellbeing. He therefore urged personnel and their families to take maximum advantage of the facilities which had been provided for their benefit. He noted further that, in line with the NAF tradition of giving back to its host communities, the facility would also be open to the good and hospitable people of Kano State. The CAS also reaffirmed the commitment of the Service to periodically reach out to surrounding rural communities to provide them with the much needed preventive healthcare services, including health education.

Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted that his vision for the NAF, upon assumption of office, was to develop a highly professional force for the effective, efficient and timely employment of Air Power in response to Nigeria's national security imperatives. This, he noted, required having the right structure, equipment, manpower disposition and welfare support system. He acknowledged that the current Federal leadership had facilitated all of these enhancements, thereby empowering the Service to more effectively carry out its constitutional roles. He therefore seized the opportunity to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his continued support to the NAF, which had led to the acquisition of 18 brand new aircraft in the last 3 years; with another 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and 6 Agusta 109 Power Helicopter Gunships being expected from the United States of America and Italy, respectively. The CAS noted, in particular, that, the NAF has been able to embark on several infrastructural projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of personnel to enable them focus on assigned tasks. These included the establishment of new schools and upgrade of existing ones, provision of new office and residential accommodation in units across the country as well as the establishment of 2 new Reference Hospitals in Bauchi and Port Harcourt, in addition to the establishment of 4 new Cancer Screening Centres and upgrade of medical facilities in NAF Hospitals nationwide. The CAS remarked that the Modular Theatre being commissioned was another of such value additions. He pledged that the NAF would continue to strive for excellence in fulfilling its constitutional roles, in collaboration with sister Services, to provide the necessary security as Nigeria marches on towards greater peace and prosperity.

Speaking earlier, the acting Chief of Medical Services, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Mohammed Shaibu, stated that the completion of the Modular Theatre was only made possible due to the dogged determination of the CAS. He noted that the project, which was started about 6 years ago, was neither fully completed nor equipped and therefore could not be put to use. He noted however, that in view of the strategic importance of the hospital in support of COIN Operations in the Northeast, the CAS directed that the Theatre be completed, equipped and put to immediate use, so that injured personnel evacuated from the frontlines could be stabilized and treated in the hospital. The Modular Theatre, which comprises a reception, lecture and recovery rooms, offices and 2 operating suites, is equipped with modern anesthetic machines, operating tables, theatre lamps, C-arm machines and operating microscopes, among others.

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have successfully repelled Boko Haram insurgents’ attack at Jakana village in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the insurgents coordinated the attack at Jakana barely 12 hours after the troops repelled them in Bama and Rann communities.

Although there were no official comments either by the military and government agencies, reports said the gallant troops engaged the insurgents in gun duel to repel the attacks.


A competent source at the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), disclosed that heavily armed insurgents attacked Jakana at about 8 p.m. Friday.

The source disclosed that the troops, with support of other security personnel and members of the vigilante, engaged the criminals in serious gun battle which lasted for over an hour.


It said that the troops routed the insurgents and many of them escaped with gun shot wounds.

The vigilante fighter added that there were no casualties on the part of the troops and members of the public in the attack.


It will be recalled that gallant troops had earlier repelled attacks by the insurgents at Bama and Rann in the early morning hours of Friday.

The insurgents burnt houses and a Malnourishment Treatment Centre, operated by an NGO at Rann community.


The military authorities are yet to comment on the incidents. (NAN)

MINISTRY OF LABOUR ACCREDITS NAFIL TAILORING WORKSHOP, RECOMMENDS IT FOR N-POWER PROGRAMME

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has accredited the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) Tailoring Workshop in Kaduna and recommended it for use as a training centre for tailoring and garment making for the N-Power Programme of the Federal Government. With this accreditation, the NAFIL Tailoring Workshop would be able to award Trade Test Certificates to its graduates. The Certificate of Accreditation was presented in Kaduna by the Representative of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Ibrahim Jibia, who is the Ministry's Director Skills Development and Certification Department. The Director commended the NAF for initiating such a laudable programme to enable youths acquire skills in tailoring and garment making. He urged other members of the Armed Forces to emulate the NAF to assist youths to become employers of labour through skills acquisition. Mr Jibia recalled that he led a team to assess the equipment and the overall environment of the workshop in September 2018 for the purpose of accreditation. According to him, “this is the only place we have visited for this kind of exercise and are satisfied even on our first visit”. He also expressed satisfaction with the level of participation of the local community in the tailoring workshop.

In his remarks, the Managing Director (MD) NAFIL, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Bagare, stated that the NAFIL Tailoring Workshop was the initiative of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to primarily make the NAF self-sufficient in uniform production. He revealed that the workshop was initially to be established in partnership with a foreign firm, with the NAF being required to contribute 300 Million Naira. He noted, however, that NAFIL seized the initiative and established the workshop with less than 45 Million Naira, thus abiding by one of the key drivers of the CAS’ Vision which is “Reinforcing a culture of self-reliance and prudent management of resources”. He further disclosed that the workshop, since inception, has been an avenue to train NAF personnel, their wards and members of the host community. The MD NAFIL added that the workshop has produced over 52,000 pairs of uniforms for the NAF and other security organizations.

Speaking during the event, the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command, AVM Muhammad Suleiman, said NAFIL had not only provided the means to save hard earned foreign currency but had created an avenue for the development of NAF personnel, their wards and the host community. He extolled the leadership quality of the CAS in domesticating many aspects of NAF functions in order to harness abundant potentials in the Service. With a total staff strength of 106, comprising one officer, 37 airmen/airwomen and 68 civilians, the workshop runs round the clock in 3 shifts with various types of industrial tailoring machines.
