NAF COMMENCES ADVANCED FORENSIC, CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION COURSE FOR AIR PROVOST PERSONNEL IN LAGOS

In furtherance of its continued efforts to effectively employ scientific approach to crime fighting, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced a 4-week Advanced Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Course for its Air Provost (AP) personnel at the 057 Provost Investigation Group (057 PIG), Ikeja, Lagos. The Advanced CSI Course, which is aimed at building the capacity and knowledge of the AP personnel in order to fast-track scientific collation and accurate analysis of evidence in legal proceedings, began on 28 September 2020. The participants, which comprise 4 officers and 11 airmen/airwomen, are expected to undertake series of practical CSI sessions, the first of which was conducted yesterday, 13 October 2020, under the watchful eyes of 5 external resource persons and 4 British-trained NAF Instructors.

It would be recalled that, as part of efforts by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to reposition the Service into a highly professional force, the NAF had, on 24 September 2018, commissioned the newly remodeled and equipped Forensic Crime Laboratory as well as a befitting Headquarters Building at 057 PIG to ensure a conducive environment for the NAF Directorate of Air Provost to effectively and efficiently carry out criminal investigations as well as train its personnel.

In case you don't know. You can't create what is already in existence.
If swat already exists what's the essence of creating another swat unit?
Or I'm missing something? undecided
You're missing a lot !

SWAT has been already in existence before now, they are to be replace the useless SARS or FSARS we have.
Trust me this guys are professional and not miscreants like the SARs, only that there unit outfit is not enough, just like the police IRS those guys are doing a nice job, years back some IRS officers helped me with my flat tires I'm the middle of night in Abuja and I was so much surprised.
My only fear is that they wouldn't turn bad like the SARS in few years time.

CAS UNDERTAKES OPERATIONAL VISIT TO KATSINA, ASSESSES PROGRESS OF ONGOING AIR OPERATIONS IN NORTH WEST ZONE

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing air operations in the North West Zone of the Country and pledged the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to sustain the intensity of operations in order to rid the Zone of armed bandits and other criminal elements. The CAS made this known today, 8 October 2020, while on an operational visit to the Headquarters of the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Katsina to asses the progress of operations. The visit also afforded the CAS the opportunity to ascertain, first hand, the status of personnel, aircraft and logistics support facilities that had been deployed to ensure the effective conduct of operations. The CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by senior officers from Headquarters NAF, was received in Katsina by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, and subsequently received a closed door briefing from the Air Component Commander, Wing Commander Ahmed Hamidu.

Speaking to the Press after the briefing, the CAS reiterated the NAF’s commitment to flush out armed bandits and other criminals from their forest hideouts in Katsina and Zamfara States as well as in Kaduna, Niger and Sokoto States. “I am very happy with what the Air Component has been doing, especially here in Katsina as well as in Zamfara State. We have made significant progress. We have also been able to substantially deal with the problem in Sokoto State”, he added. He stated that these efforts would be intensified as more attack helicopters and fighter jets would be deployed in order to bring to an end the menace of armed banditry in the affected areas. “I assure you that very soon most of these problems will be over”, he said.

Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government for its support towards the NAF’s fleet renewal efforts, which, he disclosed, included the acquisition of 8 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) which would soon arrive the Country. He added that about 70 personnel, who are to operate and maintain the UCAVs, had already been nominated for training in China. He further disclosed that some of the UCAVs would be deployed in Katsina and Gusau, while others would be deployed to Gombe, at the newly established 203 Combat Reconnaissance Group (203 CRG) Gombe. He further stated that he would be in Gusau the following week to discuss with the Zamfara State Government on arrangements for the deployment of UCAVs to Gusau. “These UCAVs will bring substantial value to what we are doing. The whole idea is to send the right message to Nigerians that the Federal Government is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that our communities are safe”, the CAS added.

FIGHT AGAINST BANDITRY: CAS ASSESSES CONDUCT OF NEW SUBSIDIARY OPERATION KASHE MUGU 2 IN KADUNA, URGES AIR COMPONENT TO SUSTAIN ONSLAUGHT AGAINST ARMED BANDITS, COMMENDS CONTRIBUTION OF YOUNG PILOTS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has tasked the Air Component of Operation THUNDER STRIKE (OPTS) to intensify its air strikes against armed bandits and other criminal elements in Kaduna and surrounding States with a view to ensuring a return of normalcy to troubled parts of the North West and North Central Zones of the Country. The CAS gave this charge today, 6 October 2020, while in Kaduna to assess the progress of the newly launched Operation KASHE MUGU 2, a subsidiary air interdiction operation aimed at neutralizing identified armed bandits’ hideouts in the forests and border areas between Kaduna and Zamfara States. The CAS, who witnessed the conduct of one of the waves of today’s attack missions, commended the pilots and support personnel for their efforts and the commendable results so far recorded. He however urged them to sustain the momentum of operations to ensure that there is no hiding place for the bandits. “You must continue to work assiduously, in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies, to smoke the criminals out of their enclaves and ensure that they are no longer able to stop law-abiding citizens from pursuing their legitimate aspirations”, he added.

Speaking to the Press after the attack aircraft had returned from the successful air interdiction mission, which resulted in the destruction of a camp and neutralization of several armed bandits at Fadaman Kanauta, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the operation, noting that the air strikes would be sustained to ensure that all identified camps are cleared. He disclosed that the Air Component would also continue to conduct Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to identify all other camps which, he said, would be similarly taken out. The CAS noted that the overall objective was to ensure that Nigeria is secured and that no individual or group, whether terrorists or otherwise, undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty or the rights and values that Nigerians hold so dear.

Speaking further, the CAS especially lauded the efforts of the young pilots conducting the missions. He noted that, as a result of the current NAF Administration’s aggressive capacity building efforts, the Service now has a good number of competent young pilots across all its aircraft types, with officers in their twenties and early thirties being captains on the C-130H aircraft fleet as well as on aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet, which was a marked departure from what obtained in the recent past, where Air Commodores and Air Vice Marshals were the only captains on such fleets. “Its all about capacity building. Once the capacity is there; the opportunity is given for young people to train and acquire the necessary skills, then the sky is the limit and that is what we have seen these young pilots do over the past few years”, he added.

The CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by the Chief of Training and Operations, AVM James Gwani; Chief of Aircraft Engineering, AVM Musibau Olatunji; as well as Chief of Logistics, AVM Mohammed Yakubu, and other senior officers from Headquarters NAF, had earlier been briefed on the conduct of the operation by the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Musa Mukhtar, and the Air Component Commander OPTS, Wing Commander Mohammed Umar. The CAS also later inspected facilities at the 061 NAF Aeromedical Hospital as well as infrastructure at the Regiment Training Centre Kaduna.

FORCE COMMANDER MNJTF VISITS FOURTH JOINT MILITARY REGION IN CAMEROON….Seeks for stronger synergy and collaboration.

1. The Force Commander (FC), Multinational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf was on 3 day operational visit to Cameroonian formations/units in Maroua in the Far North Region of Republic of Cameroon. It is pertinent to note that the operations of Sector 1 MNJTF (Cameroon) are closely linked with the operations other formations of the Cameroonian Defence Forces. These include Operation EMERGENCE by the 4th Joint Military Region and the 4th Gendarmerie Region as well as Operation ALPHA by the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) all located in Maroua. Thus, the purpose of the visit was to enhance synergy between the MNJTF and the adjoining national operations of the Cameroonian Defence Forces.

2. On arrival, Major General Yusuf paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of the Far North Region, His Excellency, Midjiyawa Bakari. The Governor commended the MNJTF for stabilising and restoring relative peace to the Lake Chad Basin. He appreciated the sacrifices of all the soldiers from the MNJTF Troops Contributing Countries and assured that the ongoing military operations will ultimately bring peace and security for sustainable development of the region.

3. In his response, General Yusuf appreciated the political support and public goodwill extended to Sector 1 of MNJTF. He said, the support had facilitated the smooth execution of non-kinetic operations, leading to the surrender of several insurgents in Sector 1 Area of Operation. Speaking further, the FC was emphatic on the unalloyed commitment of the MNJTF to creating conducive environment for return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees to their homes of origin to pursue their legitimate economic activities.

4. At the Headquarters, Fourth Joint Military Region, the Commander, Major General Saly Mohamadou extolled the existing seamless synergy and collaboration among Operations EMERGENCE, ALFA and troops of Sector 1 of MNJTF. The Commander urged the FC to explore additional areas in which the two operations can further consolidate on the operational successes recorded. General Saly expressed willingness to continue with joint operations between the national and MNJTF forces in the region.
5. In his remarks, Major General Yusuf acknowledged the need for sensitisation of national forces on the imperative of non-kinetic measures as complimentary efforts to kinetic operation to ensure continuous insurgents defection. He opined that, winning public support is a tested veritable strategy for successful counter insurgency operations in the region. General Yusuf therefore, urged both the national and MNJTF forces Commanders to sustain regular operational visits for better understanding and mutual benefits.
