STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: NAF STRENGTHENS R&grin EFFORTS, SIGNS NEW MOUs WITH KEY MDAs

In furtherance of its efforts to advance Research and Development (R&grin) for enhanced operational effectiveness, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 1 July 2020, signed additional Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 3 Organizations, namely; the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), University of Benin (UNIBEN) and Digital Bridge Institute (DBI). The erstwhile MoUs with the aforementioned organisations, which recently expired, were renewed by the NAF in line with its focus on strategic partnerships with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for enhanced R&grin. The signing of the MoUs, which took place at Headquarters NAF, Abuja, had in attendance, Representatives of the 3 organizations, including: the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), AIB, Engineer Akin Olateru; the Vice Chancellor, UNIBEN, Professor Lillian Salami; and the President/CEO DBI, Engineer Professor Mohammed Ajiya. With today’s signing, the NAF now has 32 active MoUs with key MDAs in Nigeria.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Oladayo Amao, stated that the NAF as a highly technical Service relies on technology as the bedrock for success in its operations. He noted that, in line with the focus of the Federal Government in promoting indigenous technology, the NAF has, more than ever before, been looking inwards to gradually wean itself from over-dependence on foreign technology. He disclosed that this strategic policy posture had resulted in greater innovation and resourcefulness within the Service.

Air Marshal Abubakar stated further that collaboration with local organizations, by way of MoUs, remained critical, as it continues to serve as a pedestal to leapfrog existing capabilities as well as a repertoire of capacity that could be harnessed at short notice. He added that the MoUs would provide a platform to cross-fertilize ideas for greater innovation, ultimately leading to the achievement of meaningful solutions to the technological challenges of the Service and indeed the Nation, in a cost-effective manner. The collaborative efforts of the NAF, he said, had produced auto-pilot cassettes for the Mi-35 Helicopter, emergency ventilator systems for COVID-19 patients as well aa hydraulic diaphragms for the Mi-35 helicopter and L-39ZA trainer aircraft. Other results of collaborative efforts of the NAF highlighted include the production of Alpha Jet anti-skid break system test bench and batteries for the Mi series helicopters. He disclosed that the specific areas of the NAF’s collaboration with the AIB, UNIBEN and DBI include aircraft accident investigation, aerospace technology, energy, software development and robotics.

Speaking on behalf of the MoU Partners, the UNIBEN Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, said they were delighted to formally renew the R&grin collaboration with the NAF. She noted that the years of close interaction with the Service had shown that the NAF places high premium on professionalism through the acquisition of the appropriate education and skills. She observed that this was critical to ensuring technological advancement in any field of endeavour. Professor Salami pledged that the MoU partners, who she said, were already part of the NAF Family, would work with renewed commitment to understand the new areas of technological challenges with a view to developing shared, cost-effective solutions.

While delivering his welcome remarks, the Chief of Standards and Evaluation, AVM Remigius Ekeh, disclosed that the NAF had made giant strides in the area of R&grin, especially in the last 5 years of the current NAF leadership. According to him, the CAS has inspired a lot of solutions to operational challenges in the NAF by investing in high quality training of personnel, approving innovative approaches to issues and encouraging out-of-the-box thinking, thereby achieving credible results whilst saving scarce budgetary resources.

High points of the occasion were the signing and presentation of the respective MoU documents.
Also present during the event were Branch Chiefs and Directors from NAF Headquarters as well as other senior military officers and officials from the 3 MoU partners.

I would advise you to do some research about the Russian SU25 and then you will change that perfunctory assumption.

You can indeed consider acquisition costs as well as running costs.
No you do your more profound research!
The A29 has more advantage than the Su25 in many ways. And why would I go for an aircraft that his no more in production.

HEALTHCARE DELIVERY: NAF COMMISSIONS NEWLY CONSTRUCTED DIALYSIS CENTRE AT NAF HOSPITAL IN ABUJA

In furtherance of its commitment towards the provision of qualitative healthcare services for its personnel and their families, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a newly constructed and well-equipped Dialysis Centre at the 063 NAF Hospital, Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja. The Centre, which has a large Treatment Room with 3 Dialysis Machines and other support equipment as well as a comfortable Reception Area, 2 Consulting Rooms and a Nursing Station, was commissioned today, 1 July 2020, by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the NAF Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao.

While conducting the Representative of the CAS on a tour of facilities in the Dialysis Centre, the Commander 063 NAF Hospital, Group Captain Muzzammil Muhammed, stated that the Centre, which also has its own integrated water supply/treatment as well as alternative power supply systems, was established because of the global increase in cases of hypertension and diabetes, which often lead to kidney diseases. He noted that the establishment of the Centre in the Hospital would make it much easier for NAF personnel and their families as well as civilians from the surrounding communities to be managed for kidney diseases. He stated further that the Centre would complement the newly-designated COVID-19 Management Centre because, according to him, “the kidney is one of the organs that the Novel Coronavirus attacks. Hence, the proximity of this Centre to the new COVID-19 Management Centre will further enhance the treatment of patients with the disease”. The Commander also remarked that the Hospital has a well-trained team of medical consultants, nurses and support staff that will effectively man the Centre for optimal performance. “We can easily take care of a minimum of 3 patients everyday; 7 days a week”, he added.

It will be recalled that the NAF recently converted the Accident and Emergency Unit at the 063 NAF Hospital to a 25-bed COVID-19 Management Centre as part of facilities designated in the Armed Forces of Nigeria COVID-19 Response Team’s contribution to the National Response.

Others present at the commissioning ceremony were the NAF Chief of Medical Services, Air Commodore Gideon Bako, as well as Directors from Headquarters NAF and other senior NAF officers.

BANDITRY: GO DEEP INSIDE THE BUSH, TACTICALLY DEFEAT THEM, BURATAI CHARGES TROOPS.
By Sumaila Ogbaje

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has charged the combined troops in Zamfara to go deep into the bushes where bandits are hiding to deal with them.

Gen Buratai gave the charge when he paid an operational visit to the troops deployed at Sector 2 Forward Operating Base, Zurmi in Zamfara State on Tuesday.
He said that the asymmetric nature of the ongoing war against banditry in the region required painstaking effort toward identifying the hideouts of the criminals.

He urged the troops to remain focused in the discharge of the constitutional responsibilities, adding that there are forces both internally and externally bent on sabotaging their efforts.

He assured the troops of more and better equipment needed to prosecute the war against the criminals.

According to him, – “more equipment have been procured and deployed in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to enhance the fighting power of the military.

“You must ensure that you remain focused and not be distracted as there are so many forces trying to sabotage the security of this country both internally and externally”.

He further stated that “the troops must go deep inside the bush and pursue the bandits until they are tactically defeated because we have what it takes to defeat them,” he said.

He commended the troops for their patriotism and commitment to defending the territorial integrity of the nation.

He later proceeded to the Palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, where he assured of the renewed commitment of the Nigerian military to end the lingering security challenges.

The Emir applauded the effort of the military in addressing the security challenges in Zamfara state and pledged to support the military to succeed in curtailing it.

Also at the palace of the Emir of Kaura-Namoda, Buratai assured that Nigerian army was fully committed to.

NAF FLAGS OFF ANOTHER 3-DAY MEDICAL OUTREACH FOR VICTIMS OF ARMED BANDITRY IN SOKOTO STATE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in another humanitarian gesture geared towards ameliorating the hardship faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in some parts of Sokoto State due to recent attacks by armed bandits, has extended free medical services to Isa Local Government Area (LGA) of the State. The 3-day free healthcare services, which commenced yesterday, 30 June 2020, is coming barely 2 weeks after a similar exercise was conducted in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State.

During the 3 days of the outreach, there will be free medical consultations, free medications, de-worming and immunization of children, donation of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, provision of eye glasses, health education on current and emerging diseases as well as distribution of face masks to the IDPs. Besides the free medical services, the IDPs were also given palliatives including food items, potable water, toiletries and footwear, amongst others.

While flagging off the event, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who was represented by the Sokoto State Director of Primary Health, Dr Shuaibu Gobir, expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, and the NAF for choosing Isa LGA to conduct the free medical outreach and distribution of palliatives to the IDPs. Similarly, the District Head of Isa, Alhaji Nasiru Suleiman Ahmed II, equally thanked the leadership of the NAF for the hands of fellowship. He noted that the gesture would help his people to meet some of their basic needs because some of them were distressed and had no food to eat. He called on members of the community to come out en-masse and make judicious use of the items donated.

In his remarks, the NAF Director of Public Health and Humanitarian Services and Leader of the Medical Team, Group Captain Ali Tanko, stated that the provision of the free healthcare was directed by the CAS to cater for the medical needs of the people of the LGA who had been displaced by the activities of armed bandits. He said the medical outreach was part of the NAF’s “winning hearts and minds” programmes aimed at further enhancing civil-military relations.

The visibly elated beneficiaries, who turned out in their large numbers, also expressed their gratitude to the NAF for the timely gesture which, they said, would further alleviate their sufferings. Others in attendance during the flag-off ceremony were the Sole Administrator, Isa LGA, Alhaji Nasiru Muhammad; the Director Primary Healthcare, Isa LGA, Abdullahi Isiaka; the Commander 119 Composite Group, Group Captain Garuba Bello; as well as the Deputy Director, Directorate of Civil Military Relations, Headquarters NAF, Group Captain Musa Aileru, amongst others.

Proforce Nigeria nets Deep Blue Project
onshore component contract

Nigerian-based Proforce Defence has been awarded a contract to supply light armoured vehicles to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) under it’s ongoing Deep Blue Project.

Proforce Defence has already delivered since May this year, the first batch of 16 armoured personnel carrier to the Nigerian government, these will help the Nigerian government beef up security on the Niger Delta region, and will be used to patrol volatile areas in the same region.

The contract, according to NIMASA is handled by Israeli firm HLSI-Blue Octagon, and will see the acquisition of several land, sea and aerial based platforms including two special mission naval vessels manufactured by Shipyard de Hoop, 17 fast interceptor boats delivered by De Haas Maasluis, two Leonardo AW 109 helicopters and two Cessna Citation Jet CJ3 type ISR (intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance) aircraft that will be equipped by Bird Aerosystems.

Proforce Defence is Nigeria’s leading developer of armoured vehicles, small patrol boats as well as overhauling of assorted armoured vehicles. One of the company’s successful product is the Ara Mine resistant and ambush protected vehicle. Proforce also produces the PF2 light armoured vehicle, and the improvised armoured combat vehicle (a reinforced Hilux truck).

When fully operational, Deep Blue Project would drastically reduce piracy and other crimes within Nigeria’s maritime domain and the Gulf of Guinea.
It’s such a good news and will further encourage and help local defense industries.

Some people can say what then don't know. shocked

Tanks vs technical (Toyota Hilux guntruck)

Lol, tanks don't stand a chance. The Hilux will outrun any gun on that tank.

In fact the relatively slow tank will become a target practice for RPGs and grenades.
huh shocked huh shocked
Please tell me you’re joking wink
Depending on the terrain; in a cross-country bushy terrain, a Toyota hilux can never outrun a modern MBT like the VT-4 or even T72.
Now let’s take a tiled road/asphalt road then a Toyota holiday would definitely outrun a MBT.

But in the true sense of a battlefield scenario you don’t really need speed to terminate targets like technicals, all you need do his to make use of your RWS or secondary weapon for MBTs like the T72 without RWS.
Only a mad terrorist or suicide bomber/V.B.I.E.D. would try outrunning a MBT face to face. Even has soldiers we wouldn’t try that without a ATGM or equivalent .

OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: AIR TASK FORCE OBLITERATES BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS’ STRUCTURES, NEUTRALIZE SEVERAL FIGHTERS AT WARSHALE IN BORNO STATE

1. The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has dealt another decisive blow on Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the North East of Nigeria with the destruction of several of their structures and neutralization of their fighters at Warshale in the Northern part of Borno State. 2. Accordingly, the Air Task Force dispatched a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets as well as an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to engage the location. The NAF jets scored devastating hits in their multiple waves of attacks resulting in the destruction of several structures in the settlement as well as the neutralization of some of the terrorists.

5 Humanitarian Workers Kidnapped By Boko Haram Beg Federal Government Come To Their Rescue

Four humanitarian workers and a security guard, abducted by Boko Haram terrorists earlier this month, have appealled to the federal government as well as their respective organisations to intervene for their release.

This was contained in a two minutes and 37 seconds video clip released by the terrorist group on Sunday.

The video showed the humanitarian workers from Action Against Hunger, Rich International, International Rescue Committee and a staff of the State Emergency Management Agency urging the government to do something about their release.

In the video exclusively received by Daily Trust, all abductors were shown sitting on local mats begging the authorities.

“Please, come and rescue me,” Abdulrahman begged.

AStaff of Rich International, Abdulrahman Dungus, said: “On my way going back to Monguno, we were caught by this army called the Khalifa on the 8th June.

“I am appealing to my organisation to do whatever they can to get me out of here,” he begged.

A private security guard, on his part, said: “My name is Joseph Prince. “I am a staff of Alje Security Organization.

“On my way from Maiduguri to Monguno for an official assignment on the 1st June 2020 as at 11:37am, we encountered Khalifa soldiers and they captured us and of course took us to where we are now.

“As I speak to you now, today’s date is 21st June year 2020.

“I am still in their custody.

“I am requesting that my organisation should please rescue me.

Thank you.” Ishaiku Yakubu, a staff of Action Against Hunger, an NGO in Borno State, said: “On the 8th of June 2020, on our way going back to Maiduguri from Monguno, we were caught by this army called the Khalifa.

“They brought us here and actually we don’t know where we are.

“I want to beg my organisation; Action Against Hunger, to do something about me to see how I can be released, ” he pleaded.

Another captive, Luka Filubus of International Rescue Committee, based in Monguno Local Government Are, said: “On 8th of June, I left Monguno for Maiduguri and had an encounter with Khalifa soldiers.

“They captured me and brought me to their base.

“As I am speaking with you, it’s 21st of June.

“So, I am appealing to IRC to come and rescue me from Khalifa soldiers.”

Daily Trust had reported that suspected Boko Haram insurgents abducted four persons, including three humanitarian workers and a soldier along Monguno/Maiduguri highway.
