We did not seem to get this same sort of uproar from Nigerians when people are burnt in their own countries. So when South Africans do it, it is worse?? I mean people are burnt alive and beaten to death daily across the country for either being suspected of stealing or whatever. Are those lives not worth the same??

Face the facts, the man has no choice.

Nigeria is a very convoluted country to lead.
Effective strategy is always looking fruitful on the paper, and also sounding very brilliant during discussion; but the challenge begins when it's time to put the strategy into action (especially in an environment that is vigorously infested by bunch of disingenuous greedy pigs)

Yar'Adua gets 75% grade. It is true that the man could have done much better, but I could also clearly see and understand all the challenges the poor man is up against.

I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I see a brighter future for our nation, but we must learn to always embrace perfection and stay away from short cuts (Nigerian style); the same style that continues to separate us from the best.
We must pay attention and realize that it took many years to crumble this nation into dust and I'm sure that it would also take many years to elevate or restore things back to normal.
Furthermore, there is nothing easier (for cowards) than speaking bullets from many miles away from home; we need to calm down and get familiar with the extremely entangled issues at home before we start to preach absolute rubbish.

Let's give the man a break, at least he's not a thief.

FYI: Corruption represents 95% of our problems in Nigeria

Nobody is willing to accept the responsibility and we also tend to quickly point fingers at few folks when the subject "corruption" comes up.

I think we are all responsible; there is nothing one could accomplish successfully in our society (Nigeria) today without exercising the mighty unblushing bribery practise. (we see corruption in Nigerian schools, driving license office, immigration office, airport, port authority, police dept, dept of transportation, dept of agriculture, banks, hospitals etc). And I do not think OBJ or Abacha or IBB owns all these establishments.
I think corruption is directly embedded in our culture and blood. This is also why today many Nigerians come back home with great ideas to run things, but fall into the same trap (corruption) in just few months.
Hence, instead of seeking for an excuse by pointing fingers at few people, we ought to look closely in the mirror, address and reevaluate our infested culture; which continues to canonize corruption in Nigeria as the only way to make it to the top.

It's simple, my man; Ribadu should have acted like a man of integrity, who's totally dedicated to serving Nigeria as a nation by stepping down. I still think that he (Ribadu) deserves a nollyhood award for his magnificent 5 years of acting role. It is crystal clear that the man is good, he's so good that many Nigerians (including myself) bought what he was selling at the time.

And I'm confident to say that this "gift" is coming very very soon.

This is the best "gift" any president could give Nigeria as a nation.

No need to continue to rehash, no need to waste more time and no need to continue to deceive each other; it is crystal apparent to all of us that 95% of our problem falls into corruption.

If this is true, why are we still wasting time and money? Why not immediately modify our constitution and start executing any convicted corrupt individuals? (I guarantee you that after executing 2 or 3 convicted entities, Nigerians in general would respond positively toward this action or new law, and the end result will be favourable to all)

A Great New Day For The EFCC by Ray Morphy

Let me open this piece by saying that I am one of those who supported Nuhu Ribadu and his EFCC. I had lent that support both privately and publicly, including volunteering my skills to that organisation, but I was more than appalled towards the tail end of the last regime when it became apparent that Nuhu was lending himself to the fascist and dictatorial politics of Obasanjo.

[b]I could not close my eyes to the fact that Nuhu's EFCC had derailed and had, indeed, become a veritable instrument for covering the corruption of Obasanjo and his close buddies. We were all witnesses to the fact that all Obasanjo enemies were labeled corrupt while Obasanjo himself who was clearly stinking of corruption was adjudged innocent by Nuhu Ribadu. As an informed and connected commentator, I knew that the last regime was a champion of corruption and brigandage, yet Nuhu kept misleading the public as to the culpability of that regime. And in that manner, EFCC under Nuhu wasted its goodwill and lost its credibility. Many would recall that Nuhu had even declared Obasanjo as the most honest leader that Nigeria has ever had! But we all knew better. We knew that Obj and his family were busy looting Nigeria, yet the anti-corruption boss had the guts to look us all in the face and call us fools with that declaration. It was even worse when a series of court judgments declared as illegal and unlawful, the much-vaunted list of corrupt Nigerians authored by Nuhu which Obasanjo had used to keep his enemies out of the political space. In other words EFCC was used unlawfully to deny many Nigerians their rights including the right to liberty and freedom. Many were locked up in EFCC cells for doing nothing other than oppose Obj while the truly corrupt were roaming the corridors of the Villa. [/b]

Despite the "arrangee" media support for Nuhu that appeared mindless of these massive faults, it was clear that his continued headship of EFCC was injurious to the fight against corruption. For instance, why did he hound Mike Adenuga out of the country? Why was he the principal agent of Obasanjo who used blackmail to procure impeachments against some state governors who may have been far less corrupt than Obasanjo himself? As we say in my place, he left the elephant that destroyed the farm to chase after rats that came to eat the leftover. For me, that saga was a chance to engage Nigerians meaningfully in the war against corruption but Nuhu's lack of moral integrity and principle ruined it for us all. I know for a fact that amongst the close friends of Nuhu at that time were Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello and Mallam Nasir El-Rufia. Both have been found to be deeply corrupt and deficient in honesty. By his own admission in the Senate public hearing on the FCT, el-Rufia corruptly enriched himself, his friends and his family members with plots of land that he had illegally seized from innocent citizens. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, a serial offender, was very close personal friend of Nuhu Ribadu. How come that despite that closeness, Nuhu was not able to know that those two – el-Rufai and Iyabo – were deeply corrupt? Is it that some people were above the law and as such were being shielded by the EFCC? As they say, "show me your friends, and I will tell you who you are." Nonetheless, some hack writers still try to insinuate that Ribadu was replaced because he fought corruption. No, Ribadu was removed because he aided looters by shielding and protecting the truly corrupt. I do not want to delve into the alleged nepotism and favoritism in the EFCC itself. That is minor compared to many other wrongs of the EFCC under the headship of Nuhu Ribadu!

But now, with the appointment of a person of the caliber of Mrs. Farida Waziri, EFCC has a chance to re-ignite the fight against corruption in a big way. Contrary to the insinuations of some commentators, Mrs. Farida Waziri is a principled and experienced policewoman with an unmatched track record that makes her supremely suitable for this tough assignment. With the hindsight borne out of certain blunders of EFCC in the recent past, it is clear that maturity must be a prerequisite for anyone who plans to succeed as head of the EFCC. It is even on record that Mrs. Waziri trained both Nuhu and Lamorde. So who can be better suited to restore the EFCC to glory than this experienced lady of impeccable credentials? Since she retired many years ago, Mrs. Farida Waziri has lived quietly and frugally as is expected of a woman who is living on her modest pension and the minor investments she was able to make during her service years.

I know the woman personally and if there is anyone I can vouch for, it is this amazon of the Force. By the way, I know Nuhu personally too and while commending his initial zeal, I sadly note that he hero-worshipped Obasanjo and that was why he was deceived into rubbishing the good works he had started the EFCC with. And in this is the lesson for us all. No man can deceive the people all the time as Obasanjo, aided by Nuhu, tried to do. For Mrs. Waziri, my advice is that she pursue her job with zeal, passion, patriotism but most of all, with the fear of God. She should avoid the mistake of personalising the agency or running it from the pages of newspapers as Nuhu did. It is a good thing that Emma Akomaye has been retained to ensure some continuity and seamless transition from the old to the new.

How do you expect to accurately dissect what occurred at the farm when the farm's keeper is not being questioned?

As far as I'm concerned, I honestly think Ribadu should be immediately detained and vigorously probed. This is the only right manner to unravel what really went down during the previous administration.
Whether we accept it or not, he (Ribadu) remains the main architech of OBJ's various customized administration scandals.

Iyabo Obansanjo has finally been arrested.
OBJ has been invited to discuss how 16billion dollars was spent on power supply project during his 8 years as the president.

This was where the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) violated the sacred tenets of the rule of law during Obasanjo's regime when its chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, deliberately destroyed many presumed enemies of the General by usurping the powers of the court to declare them guilty. His role was to obviate the success of the Third Term plan in disservice to the rule of law. The world now knows he swept the dirt in his bedroom and that of his master and emperor, General Olusegun Obasanjo, under the carpet.

We thought that with the so-called change of guard at Aso Villa there would be a return to the rule of law. Habits die-hard. The EFCC has not shed its obnoxious garb of witch-hunting and the usurping of powers it does not have as evident in some of its recent pronouncements, disclosures and actions.[/b]

You can arrest Iyabo Obasanjo if you want, you can even send her father back to jail; but if Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is not invited by the senates and vigorously probed, I think justice in Nigeria will remain defective and there will forever be many questions unanswered.

Ribadu has been officially cut!

Speculations as to the fate of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were laid to rest yesterday.
Five months after he was controversially sidelined and ordered to proceed on study leave, Ribadu was yesterday officially replaced as the chairman of the anti-graft agency.
President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua approved the appointment of Mrs. Farida Waziri, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, as EFCC chairman, replacing Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde who had taken over from Ribadu in an acting capacity after Ribadu resumed at the National Institute for Strategic and Policy Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.
Waziri will hold forte in an acting capacity until she is confirmed by the Senate as stipulated in the EFCC Act.

The man (Bush) went ahead again today to do what he doesn't best (opening his mouth without thinking). He made it clear to the world (during a speech in Israel) that holding talks with enemies under any circumstance represents the appeasement of terrorist.
This statement has been labelled as "sucker punch" to debase the bright strategy of Barack Obama, (Not only talking with our friends, but also talking with our enemies to further empower the respect and strength of United States all around the world). He calls Obama's idea a "foolish delusional"

I was shocked to see someone like Mayor Naggin Ray of New Orleans just now switching to Obama.  What message are they sending to their constituencies?

The problem here is, many became who they are today because of the leadership of Bill Clinton.
Therefore, it becomes very difficult to go against your bread and butter <the same way Gbenga Daniels can never go against OBJ>.

Without Hillary, Obama can just go ahead and kiss PA, FL, MI, West VA, NY, NJ, TX and many many more big states good bye.
