The Clinton's Hypocrisy on Dubai

Hillary Clinton and her campaign repeatedly highlight her ardent feminism, her lifelong advocacy of workers’ rights, her consistent support for unions, and her love of Israel.

But those principles go right out the window if there’s money involved. When it comes to lining their pockets, the Clintons have a double standard. While Hillary chastises American corporations and employers for lay-offs and opposition to greater union organizing rights, Bill is paid big bucks that go into their joint bank accounts to legitimize the anti-Semitic, anti-worker, anti-union, and anti-woman Arab state of the UAE and its emirates of Dubai.

It’s not just Bill’s $1.2 million Dubai speaking fees that have enriched the Clintons, and its not just the million dollar contribution by the Emir of Dubai to the Clinton Presidential Library that has endeared the Islamic monarchy to them.

It’s much more that that: Bill Clinton was personally responsible for delivering the ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the U.A.E., Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to a partnership with Yucaipa Cos., headed by Bill and Hillary’s uber-fundraiser Ron Burkle.

Bill Clinton is a paid adviser and member of the Board of Directors of Yucaipa. Together, the Sheik and Yucaipa have formed a new company, Dubai Investment Group Limited, to jointly invest Yucaipa funds and the Sheik's personal funds.

So Bill Clinton is now an adviser and member of the board of directors of a company that is in partnership with the government of Dubai — a part of the world that blatantly discriminates against women, abuses workers in violation of international law, outlaws unions, deports strikers, and bans Israelis and their products from ever entering the country.

The Clintons won't reveal how much the former president pocketed for setting up this deal, except to report on Hillary's Senate disclosure form: "more than $1,000."

It’s a lot more. According to San Francisco Examiner columnist P.J. Corkery, Clinton makes $10 million a year from Yucaipa.

At the same time, the average worker in the Dubai and the UAE construction industry makes about $177 per month, not enough to support a family. According to the U.S. State Department, 98 percent of the workforce in the UAE is made up of foreigners, who Human Rights Watch are for “indentured servants, with no right to form unions or hold strikes.” About 20 percent of them work in the Dubai construction industry. Most of these workers are illiterate and have paid huge fees (usually with loans) to get the job. It is a routine practice for employers to withhold paychecks for several months and to hold the workers passports as “security.”

• There is no minimum wage.

• There is no right to organize for collective bargaining for foreign workers or domestic workers.

• There is no right to strike. Those who dare are either deported or banned from working for a year.

• There is no right to freely move from job to job unless either the current employer agrees to provide a letter of “no objection,” or the worker leaves the country for six months.

• Worker safety is not an important matter and there are only 80 inspectors to monitor over 250,000 employers.

• Workers are out in 104 degree temperatures in the summer with only a two and a half hour break in the middle of the day — a break that used to be four and a half hours, but was recently shortened.

• The workday is 8 hours, but employers frequently require overtime — without extra pay. There is a six-day work week.

Many of the lowest skilled workers live in horrible conditions. The U.S. State Department report on human rights in the UAE notes that:

“Low-skilled employees were often provided with substandard living conditions, including overcrowded apartments or lodging in unsafe and unhygienic "labor camps," often lacking electricity, potable water, and adequate cooking and bathing facilities. Some low-paid workers did not receive these benefits, even if stipulated in their contracts.”

But while Bill collects the checks for the Clinton family from anti-worker Dubai, Hillary lectures about workers’ rights.

Just last week, Hillary spoke at the convention of the Communications Workers of America and urged its members to contact Republican Senators about pro-union legislation:

“Let them know this is a voting issue; this goes to the real heart of whether we're going to be a country that stands on a principle that every person should have the right to join a union, to be part of a bargaining unit that will stand up for your income , ”

Hillary doesn’t have the same interest in the workers whose employers enrich the Clintons — she apparently has no objection to collecting the Dubai dollars or to Dubai’s disgraceful treatment of workers.

Our own government has recognized the severity of the abuses: “Since 1995 the country has been suspended from the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) insurance programs because of the government's noncompliance with internationally recognized worker rights standards.”

Hey, Hillary, stop the hypocrisy.

Clinton on Dubai Payroll

Former President Bill Clinton is up to his eyeballs in dealings with Dubai, his former top political adviser has revealed.

According to Dick Morris, author of the best-selling book, "Condi vs, Hillary," Clinton is a paid agent of the crown prince of Dubai, now involved in a firestorm over its deal to take over some of the operations at six major U.S. ports.

"Bill Clinton is a senior adviser - a paid adviser - to a company called Yucaipa which recently set up a relationship with a group called the Yucaipa Investment group to set up a new company called DIGL," Morris said on "The O'Reilly Factor."

"DIGL Inc. is in charge of managing the investments of the crown prince of Dubai throughout the world. Bill Clinton is paid by Yucaipa a percentage of the profits it makes, and Yucaipa said its profits have exceeded 40 percent in recent years.

"He is a paid agent of the crown prince of Dubai. That in addition to the roughly million dollars they gave his library, in addition to the probably $600,000 in speaking fees he got, and in addition to the scholarships for Dubai children they endowed through his library.

"I have three points about that. First, when Bill Clinton tells us this port deal is kosher, he ought to disclose that he's being paid by the government. Secondly, he should register as an agent of a foreign principal because he's giving public relations advice to a foreign company. And thirdly, his wife should disclose how much Clinton is being paid and when he's been paid, because it goes into a joint bank account and this is in effect a payment to the husband of a senator.

"And then I would raise another question: Didn't Hillary jump out of the box opposing this port deal because she knew of her husband's vulnerability and wanted to get out ahead of the story? I was talking to a source of mine who's very close to the Clintons about seven or eight months ago and the source said that he's all the time going back and forth to Dubai and getting deeper and deeper into that relationship. She (Hillary) was worried about that and its political impact," Morris said.

Morris also had harsh words for President Bush, whom he charged "messed up the Dubai port deal.

"He let the opposition discover it. (Sen.) Chuck Schumner broke the story and Bush didn't frame it the way he needed to," Morris said, explaining that he thinks the president simply doesn't care anymore.

"I'm getting the impression that he's basically telling (adviser Karl) Rove and the folks, 'Look, I got re-elected, there's not more that I can do to control this. If you want me to go out here for three or four days I will, but I'm not doing it every day, I'm not pounding the pavement like I did for re-election, and I'm taking the long view.'"

Morris, one of the nation's top political gurus said that Bush needs to do what Clinton did all through his second term - and even every single day - maintain control of public opinion.

Morris warned that a president who drops below 50 percent approval rating for a sustained period of time is in deep trouble. "It's like a no-confidence vote in a parliamentary system - you might as well be out of office."

Bush, he said, "has now dropped to a point where Republicans are turning on him, the public is turning on him and all he's got is a portion of the Republican base. And it is going to get worse - he's going to get (crushed) in the election of '06, he'll probably have at least one if not two houses (of Congress) controlled by Democrats launching investigations, etc. This is not a pretty picture. He has lost control over public opinion and he has only his own laziness to blame."

Morris said that "if the president doesn't understand that if a president loses control of public opinion he loses control of the job." He likened losing control to having your immune system suppressed - you're susceptible to opportunistic infections, like your vice president shoots somebody while hunting, or the Dubai ports thing. That's all a function of decreased popularity."

Clintons report $109.2M for 7 years

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and former President Clinton reported $20.4 million in income for 2007 and more than $109 million since 2000 as they gave the public the most detailed look at their finances in eight years.

The campaign released tax returns from 2000 through 2006 and gave highlights from their 2007 return. The Clintons have asked for an extension for filing their 2007 tax returns, citing the dissolution of a blind trust last year.

The Democratic presidential candidate and her husband paid $33.8 million in taxes from 2000 through 2007. They listed $10.25 million in charitable contributions during that period.

Clinton has been under pressure to release her tax returns, especially from rival Sen. Barack Obama, who posted his 2000 to 2006 returns on his campaign Web site last week. Neither Obama nor Republican Sen. John McCain have made their 2007 tax returns public, though both say they will this month.

The Clintons last made their returns public in 2000 when they reported an adjusted gross income of $416,039. Since then, the former president has embarked on a number of business ventures and has made millions from speaking engagements.

According to a summary of the seven years provided by the campaign, the former president's speech income since he left the White House totals $51.85 million and his income from his two books — "My Life " and "Giving" — totals $29.6 million.

Hillary Clinton had $10.5 million in book income over the period from her book "Living History." She donated earnings from her other book, "It Takes a Village," to charity.

Clinton's tax returns show that of the remaining presidential candidates, she is the one most able to access large amounts of personal money. She lent her campaign $5 million in late February and could contribute more if she finds herself falling far behind Obama's proficient fundraising.

McCain's wife is heiress to her father's stake in Hensley & Co. of Phoenix, one of the largest beer distributorships in the country and her worth could exceed $100 million. But the couple has a prenuptial agreement that has kept most assets in her name. In his financial disclosures, McCain lists his major sources of income as his Senate salary of $169,300 and a Navy pension of about $56,000.

In 2006, Obama reported income of nearly $1 million, with nearly half of it coming from the publication of his second book, "The Audacity of Hope." Last week, the campaign disclosed that Obama and his wife, Michelle, gave $240,000 to charity last year.

Nigerian pilots use GSM phones to contact Control Tower


THESE are not the best of time for the aviation industry in Nigeria. The missing Beechcraft 1900 D has provoked the discussion about the safety of the aviation industry.

Coming at a time sagging public confidence in air travel was restored, the missing Beechcraft 1900D aircraft operated by a charier operator, Wings Aviation has raised questions about the safety of the nation’s airspace.


More often than not, relevant aviation authorities have never held back from telling the public that the airspace was safe for flight operations, especially in view of what appeared to be government’s attention on the sector for the first time in many years.


The attention came in the form of the N19.5 billion intervention fund, which spending had generated so much controversy in the past months. However, Vanguard’s encounter with a pilot in the heat of the search for the missing plane revealed that a lot of question marks still hover around the safety of the airspace.


According to the pilot, who preferred anonymity, “pilots fly blind during much of the duration of flights within the country, specially on flights to the Northern parts of the country”.


The pilot said radio communications with ground control tower was not only epileptic, but also completely non-existent in some cases.


Things can really go bad that you have no option but to use your GSM phone to try and reach air traffic controllers on duty,” he said. Some of these problem areas, known as ‘black spots’ were first identified in 2006 by pilots and the authorities promised to address the problem.


Vanguard learnt that most of the radio communication equipment belonging to Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have become so outdated that they have packed up. Sources close to the agency said some of the equipment in question were installed over decades ago and have not been replaced due to the agency’s financial constraints.


For a pilot flying at a speed of over 700km/hour, using the GSM phone to reach controllers is a distraction which is inimical to safety.


“Sometimes, you try and you cannot get through due to network problem, and at that point you fly blind until you are able to regain contact,” the pilot added. Beyond pilot to controller contacts, there is also the problem of reaching one airport in the country to another as a result of the same pitfall.


Close observers of the industry noted that much of the decay identified by the Air Marshall Paul Dike’s Presidential Committee, set up in the aftermath of Bellview and Sosoliso Airlines’ crashes, were still prevalent, and made case not only for more funding from the government but also for a probe into how the N19.5 billion intervention fund released for upgrade of facilities was spent by relevant aviation agencies.


While pilots are lamenting the inadequacies of navigational facilities for seamless flights, airline operators on their part are counting their losses on account of the same problem. It was learnt that because the radar in most of the airports in the country were not in serviceable state, air traffic controllers have devised the means of separating aircraft only by horizontal methods to avoid collision.


While it is moreconvenient for the controllers to do so because of their inability to separate vertically as a result of absence of radar or where available, ineffective, operators are counting their losses in the volume of fuel consumed by aircraft in the form of added time the aircraft spent in thee air flying horizontally.


A pilot confirmed that as a result of the problem, he now covers in 90 minutes a journey he should have spent 60 minutes.


He continued: “What you have now is a situation where air traffic controllers separates aircraft horizontally to avoid collision.


To do this, so many aircraft are spread in the air at the same time and to avoid collision, we are made to go round and round to get to your destination. Consequently, you spend much more time that you would have spent to arrive at your destination.”


He said the situation could get very bad and precarious if remedies were not effected before the heavy rains come. An operator, who craved anonymity, said airlines were the only entities keeping the aviation industry in the country going, adding that the parastatals who ought to be service providers have failed the sector.


He noted that there were some airports in Nigeria where some airlines have taken it upon themselves to provide facilities to pave way for their operations into such airports. “Look, our airport charges are about the highest in the world and yet you don’t get value for money. We are going through a lot to be able to fly in this country.


We, as airlines, have always been responsible; for once, let the agencies show that they are also responsible,” said the operator, who advised the Minister of Air Transport, Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat, to be mindful of his officials in the ministry and parastatals to avoid being misled.


Experts believe that the nation could have been spared all these agony had succeeding governments in the country invested in the sector, considered the very key to jump-starting the economy for growth. He said the problem had been a recurring one for NAMA, adding, that informed the reason it recently acquired 15 VHP radio communication equipment to nip the problem in the bud. According to him, the equipment will be installed very shortly.


“ We are aware of the problem, but we are addressing it. Don’t forget that the existing radio equipment have been there for decades and because past governments have never really shown interests in the development of the aviation sector, we are where we are.


But what is important is we are addressing the issue,” He said NAMA was determined to make the airspace a friendly one for all users, but lamented the drawback paucity of funds was causing the agency.


Atobatele made reference to TRACON which the agency, in its determination to make things better, started in 2003, but couldn’t be completed due to lack of finance, compounded by frequent change of the agency’s chief executives.


The NAMA spokesman said the agency had so far expended over N27 million Euros on the project, while it needed about 40 million Euros more to complete the project meant to be installed at the nation’s four international airports - Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt, with the entire nation as its scope of coverage.


Some experts advised government to take proactive steps now to redress the situation before the raining season comes fully as, according to him, the impact of inadequate navigational facilities is felt more during the wet season, accompanied with bad and storming weather, than the dry season.


This piece becomes more germane because of the inability of the Nigerian pilot to look at his employer in the face and tell him he won’t fly in adverse conditions because of absence of viable platform for them to voice their frustrations against the system.


In other words, airline operators have made unionisation an unpardonable crime for pilots in their employ. To that extent, they can neither fight anti-labour practices by their employers nor challenge openly pitfalls in the industry.

I believe that Bush is being protected because of the already questionable integrity of the United States. It makes no sense to further damage what is already been damaged.
This is also one of the major reasons why Bush's impeachment will never be approved (eventhough the evidences are enough to impeach him).

FYI: A successfull impeachment will give a solid premise for war crime prosecution.

The whole world also dedicated a day (just few months before the war) to simultaneously protest against the Iraq war (FYI: According to the French academic Dominique Reynié, between January 3 and April 12, 2003, 36 million people across the globe took part in almost 3,000 protests against the Iraq war; including a rally of 3 million people in Rome, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest ever anti-war rally).

He also did not get the necessary approval of the United Nation before striking the war.

Every move, every step of the Clintons are strategic and full of tricks for only the fools.

The same thing happened few years ago when she was running for NY senator; she found one or two ways to force herself through.
I believe that, to be a NY senator, you have to live in NY for at least 18 months (not sure); According to the Clintons "prior to the end of Bill Clinton's regime, a close friend bought them a house in NY", therefore, this made Hillary Clinton a NY resident and also automatically qualified her to run for the NY senator position (but technically, Hillary was still living in the white house with her husband during this period). But of course, the Clinton found a way to love-vendor the system again, and at the end of the day Hillary became the NY senator.

My friends, that was back then, the Clintons can no longer love-vendor black communities to get what they want any more.
Americans are hungry and smarter today; the Clintons' trick wouldn't work this time around.

The speech is brilliant and a pure sample of utmost originality. WHY?

Obama clearly and cleverly denounced the statements of his pastor without martyrizing the man (the way most whites would have preferred). He did this in a systematical manner that left many speechless and wondering at the same time.
He also re-introduced the power of racism in America by rationally simplifying the negative effects and pointing out the products that have compiled by these unbearable backwash over the years. He made his points and gave several examples without choosing sides (not many people could accomplish this goal successfully).
He further mentioned that people shouldn't berate Pastor Wright without critically analyzing and clearly understanding the root of his disapprobation.
He also stated that America will move forward effectively and efficiently only if folks could accept one another and work together as one.

Sen Barack H. Obama Jr. methodically touched all the sensitive demons that are clearly frightenable to many (politicians) in America today. He did this with zero hesitation, without stepping on any toes, without choosing sides, with pure sincerity, with supreme genuineness and with a crystal clear frame of mind.

And he did it all his way!
