he (Ribadu) should be aplauded
No doubt about it, he should definitely be applauded, but at the same time he should also be shown the highway straight back to his village.

Nigeria deserves much better than a mere OBJ's police dog!
Politics › Re: Ribadu Fired! by BigB11(m): 3:04am On Dec 28, 2007
The firing of this man is very sad, but it's not a bad thing to do.

In few years, we will be very thankful for this bright decision. Ribadu is just another Nigerian, he doesn't have 2 heads or 4 legs; there is absolutely nothing extra ordinary about the man, if you truly understand the true definition of mission accomplished.

This man rushed into every single operation, he craved short cuts, he doesn't clearly understand the constitution of Nigeria, he had very limited respect for human rights, he was too emotional and knew nothing about strategic politics or thinking.
He has never for once completed any operation successfully.

So, why all this noise? Anybody could have done the same or better with the authority given to Ribadu by OBJ.

Did you guys notice that the man (Ribadu) found it extremely difficult to function since OBJ left the office?
This was because all those illegal authority went out the window along with OBJ!
Politics › Re: Ribadu Fired! by BigB11(m): 2:53am On Dec 28, 2007
So what was the basis for EFCC being selective. All this talks about friend or no friend is senseless. It is not part of Ribadu's job description to keep an inventory of who OBJ consider's friendly or not.
We have a situation where when you ask people to acccount for their stewardship they tell you the picked up a quarell with OBJ last night hence why EFCC is probing them today.
It does not even occur to them that the frontline headache and opposition to OBJ govt are yet to be guest to EFCC. This include Buhari (Yes he was technically the number 1 Opposition leader), Ken Nnamani stood against everything OBJ, Sunday Awoniyi same. But they had no business with EFCC because they were clean.
McKren:
I do not need to tell you that I love very much anymore, I think at this point you know it; but my man, you've got to trust me on this one, you do not know the root of Ribadu, OBJ and selectivity.
No need to go too deep, just take it as it is, trust me!
Politics › Re: Ribadu Fired! by BigB11(m): 2:37am On Dec 28, 2007
Big B you don't get it. It's not the firing/removing of the guy, it's the lie in getting him removed from office. Nothing good can come out of deceiving people. Why couldn't they just fire him? That is what I want to know, if anyone has an answer to that. I do not know enough about the constitution, maybe there is a reason why he can't be fired.
They've tried everything to get rid of this defective OBJ's police dog without hurting his feelings; I guess they finally did it.

But trust me, the man was gone many months ago and he knew it too. This was one of the main reasons why he was very quiet, he did not show up at various federal government occasions and ICPC has gotten more attention much more than before; also one of the reasons why MAMAJAMA's hero (EHINDERO) is currently being detained and probed by ICPC not EFCC.
In fact, they were going to merge both organization (EFCC and ICPC), but changed this move at the last minute.

No panic, I'm sure that a new guy will be discovered. At least the corrupt officials will not have the opportunity to use OBJ or selectivity as an excuse
Politics › Re: Ribadu Fired! by BigB11(m): 2:29am On Dec 28, 2007
No need to panic, the game must go on and I think Nigerians are ready as ever.
I predict that his replacement will be 10 times better.

McKren should apply for the position!
Politics › Re: Ribadu Fired! by BigB11(m): 2:24am On Dec 28, 2007
McKren:

This was written many months ago, I knew the guy was gone since summer time and I think I made it clear to you
Ribadu, a fine Nigerian who doesn't understand many things; he is way too emotional and doesn't obey the rule of law. This man reminds me of those lunatic professors that intentionally make life difficult for students, for no sensible reason. They become very depress when majority of the students take their exam and score A+.
They are absolutely worthless, but on their minds they represent God's gift to the world

These type of people think there is no law higher than the one they've created on their mind; and mostly all their moves are illegal.

The war against corruption in Nigeria is still not totally successful not because of anything, but because of Ribadu and his selectivity style of operation.
If this man was so sincere and dedicated to Nigeria, he should have stepped down immediately he realized that OBJ was using him to fight away his enemies.
If he had made this move like a man, many would have supported him like there was no tomorrow.

The best way to fight this war effectively, efficiently and fairly is to fire this man. Bravo to this move and I think the Federal government is now showing us that they are serious with this war.

Chill out folks, I think the can of the real black jumbo worms will be opened very soon and we will all have the opportunity to select sides.
I smell odorous fish, just wait and see.

Keep in mind that there is no clean fish when the river is dirty and smelly

Benazir Bhutto, may her soul rest in peace, played her politics like the woman she is. Women are too passionate about what they believe in.

America is not responsible for her death, though her friendship with the West may have cost her her life.
In a fundamentalist country like Pakistan, having "war against terrorism" as the basis of your campaign is too risky. Especially when you are not yet in power and can not boast of State Security at your disposal.

Even President Musharaf himself is accused of double standards on war on terror, and delibrately helping Bin Laden to evade arrest. That is a security measure, because you can not be so sure who subscribes to what? Not even the Army Generals in your executive council could be trusted because they might have a secret side of them that you are not aware of.

Like a Journalist put it when asked to define a Taliban: A Taliban could range from a kid playing with a toy gun on the field to a long beared man at the town centre. You never know who is who except you see them with a gun.

Sorry to Benazir Bhutto, because you don't take a stance on such sensitive issues until you are in power. It is even most unfortunate because she has died for nothing as her previous allies will simply look for new allies and life will go on.
Even though, this statement may not be accurate, but it is absolutely well stated and makes sense.

United States needs to meet with their enemies to further understand their state of mind and reasons why they hate US so much.
That is how to solve a problem and not pushing democracy into the mouths of the enemies.

This is one of my reasons for pushing for OBAMA as the next United States president.

US will accomplished enormously if they could only man up and meet with these folks.

@davidylan:
pushing for democracy in these countries will be an everlasting fight and a mere waste of lives, time and money.

Moreover, the introduction of democracy in these areas is also not well balanced. How come it's OK for Pakistan to have WMD, but it's also absolutely not OK for Iran?
and how is democracy in Saudi Arabia?

I see push for democracy in these countries as a defective arraigned marriage. Sometimes you've got to let go and let it be or come together naturally.

I do not know much about Bhutto and her strong objectives; I'm currently doing some research to get familiar to the circumstance, but at the same time BABASIN may be making a reasonable point.

Even though the relationship is very unstable, but United States still sees Pervez Musharraf as a friend. The last thing US needs is starting from the beginning to establish a new relationship with a very strong potential prime minister/ president with a totally different agenda (whom may not welcome US unfriendly foreign policies and make things a lot more difficult for them to accomplish their goals in that area).

You just never know, anything is possible.

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan -- Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, aides said.

"The surgeons confirmed that she has been martyred," Bhutto's lawyer Babar Awan said.

A party security adviser said Bhutto was shot in neck and chest as she got into her vehicle to leave the rally in Rawalpindi near the capital Islamabad. A gunman then blew himself up.

"At 6:16 p.m. she expired," said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital where she was taken after the attack.

Her supporters at the hospital began chanting "Dog, Musharraf, dog," referring to Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf.

Some smashed the glass door at the main entrance of the emergency unit, others burst into tears. One man with a flag of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party tied around his head was beating his chest.

At least 20 others were killed in the blast that took place as Bhutto left a political rally where she addressed thousands of supporters in her campaign for Jan. 8 parliamentary elections.

Bhutto served twice as Pakistan's prime minister between 1988 and 1996. She had returned to Pakistan from an eight-year exile Oct. 18.

Her homecoming parade in Karachi was also targeted by a suicide attacker, killing more than 140 people. On that occasion she narrowly escaped injury.

ICPC invites Ehindero over N930m police fund

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is set to quiz the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, over the placement in two Nigerian banks of a N930 million given the police by the Bayelsa State government.

Already, plans are underway to invite him to shed more light on what happened to the over N40 million interest that accrued from the money.

Ehindero had insisted that the money from the Bayelsa government, which he was alleged to have mismanaged, was used in buying arms and ammunition for the police.

Informed sources from the ICPC disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja that the latest development followed the indictment of Ehindero by his erstwhile Commissioner of Police, Budget, John Obaniyi, who claimed that all the transactions were at the instance of the former IGP.

The source revealed that Obaniyi, in his statement when he appeared before a team of ICPC investigators a fortnight ago, revealed that he placed the N930 million in an interest yielding account for five months before the money was removed for the alleged purchase of the arms.

The N930 million in question was the money released to the police by the Bayelsa State government to purchase arms, ammunition, armoured personnel carriers (APC) following the menace of the militants in the area

However, Obaniyi told detectives that he placed the money in two banks (names witheld) with the authority of Ehindero. According to the source, the interest that yielded on the money was N40 million, which Obaniyi alleged was collected by Ehindero.

Nigerian Tribune gathered thet the two banks had since submitted the statement of account on the transaction to the anti-corruption body.

It was gathered that Obaniyi, who acknowledged the receipts of the N930 million, told the detectives that all he did was on the instruction of the then IGP

Obaniyi was quizzed by the ICPC about a fortnight ago, while his house was also searched after being interrogated. Another highly-placed source in the commission revealed to the Nigerian Tribune that the defence of Ehindero on the matter was a diversion, because he was not accused of tampering with the Police Equipment Fund.

It was also gathered that it was in Ehindero’s interest to answer the commission’s summon, because he already had a case to answer with the commission, following his indictment by facts available during investigation.

N3.5bn Scandal: Iyabo Obasanjo risks 3 years in jail - Lawyers move to initiate trial

SENATOR Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello may be sentenced to three years in prison on her alleged involvement in a N3.5 billion deal with an Austrian firm, M. Scheneider, some Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), have said.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Wole Olanipekun, Rickey Tarfa and Rotimi Akeredolu, all Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), said that section 484 of Criminal Code Laws of Nigeria prescribes three years jail term for any one found culpable of cases of impersonation.

Commenting on the case of Obasanjo-Bello, Olanipekun said the senator must be tried and found guilty of the allegations against her first before any one could think of jailing her.

He said, however, that Iyabo should be presumed innocent of the allegation against her, in the face of section 484 of the criminal code of the law of Nigeria, adding that so far, no one had initiated a move to ensure her trial.

In the same vein, Mr. Tarfa said the Section 484 was inapplicable in the case of Obasanjo-Bello at the moment, since the section was merely presumptuous.

He said the constitution of Nigeria is replete with such presumptions, a reason he said an offender of any act must first be found guilty before the law could take its course.

He said it was possible for the senator to be sent to jail on the basis of allegations against her but only after she had been found guilty after proper investigation and trial in court.

Mr. Akeredolu also spoke in the same vein, although he stressed that the purpose of an act of impersonation by a person and the weight of the effect of such act should be taken into consideration first.

An Abuja based lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, in a press statement he signed and made available to the Nigerian Tribune, said by disguising to sign the controversial contract, Senator Obasanjo-Bello had committed a criminal act, and was liable for prosecution in line with Section 485 of the Criminal Code, Laws of the Federation.

He disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune the resolve by himself and his colleagues in Abuja to initiate legal proceedings against the senator over her alleged involvement in the N3.5 billion deal on power projects in Nigeria.

Ajulo, one of the counsel to Delta State Elders Forum, said in the press statement that the senator risks being jailed for not less than three years if found guilty on her reported deal with the Austrain firm.

The daughter of the former President of Nigeria had admitted using a false name, Mrs. Damilola Akinlawon, in signing contract papers with M. Schneider on a supposed power project in Nigeria.

He quoted Section 484 of the Criminal Code Laws of Nigeria thus, “Any person who, with intent to defraud any person, falsely represents himself to be some other person, living or dead, is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for three years.

He said he and his other colleagues had been investigating the former Commissioner for Health in Ogun State and have been able to get documentary evidence likely to be useful in the process of her trial.

The lawyer, however, charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to shield the senator from being tried having in the past proved active in trying, people like Tafa Balogun, Maurice Ibekwe, Ade Bendel and others.

Why are you always in a hurry to always defend this common thief IBB for heaven sake?
This is a decent question.

My man, I've never defended IBB. Please, double check and it wouldn't take you too long to realize that you're wrong. I've stated many times that IBB is way too far from being a saint just like any other Nigerian, but at the same time he remains one of a kind and may be the most intelligent leader that ever ruled Nigeria.

During your research, you will also realize that Big B1 is always out to protect the under-dogs. It doesn't make any sense and not fair to shoot an injured soldier.
Forgiveness is part of growth and the path to enormous prosperity.

I believe in forgiveness and giving folks second chance.
In fact, I may be wrong, but when I look at IBB's eyes, I see a lot of energy and the wiliness to ask for forgiveness. But we must also understand that fingers are not the same; people do and see things differently.
I truly feel that Nigeria as a nation will benefit more if IBB is given opportunity; than just bashing and degrading the loyalty of the man.
You've bashed the man for many years, and my question is: what have you gained lately from all the trash talk?

Why can't we allow the man to redeem himself by positively contributing to the growth and restructuring of our nation?
(he doesn't have to be the president)

It wouldn't cost us anything!
