I am not suprised that it is your best decision by the PresidentWhat do you mean, Mr. McKren? |
FYI: The president has made this decision simply to reunite the nation and start all over. Retaining Ribadu is more or less retaining an expired failure. A new establishment must be implemented and to accomplish this goal, we must make difficult decisions and during this process, many will cry and whine; but we must stay focused and never deviate. Decision is decision; we must adjust and move on! In my book, this is one of the best decisions President Yar'Adua has made in the past 7 months. We must give him credit and support. We must also pay special attention to Ribadu's replacement and ensure that he's on the right track and remains there. |
So I don't see why the President will have to replace the EFCC boss because he arrested IboriCome on, my man. You can do better than this sucker low blow to the president. I think your posted statement is absolutely inaccurate. You sound like you're reaching desperately. McKren is a smart man, his previous post doesn't speak well of him and it must be deleted immediately. |
Retaining Ribadu as the EFCC boss will only give an uncountable excuses for the thieves. They recognized the defectiveness of this institution (Ribadu) and they've capitalized on it, using the defectiveness to their precious advantage. Ribadu as the EFCC boss will be a mere waste of money, time and the brutal division of our nation. And who will suffer? It wouldn't be the thieves, trust me! |
@ono: one love! |
That's it, mikeansy? |
If it could be confirmed that all the endorsed cases are selective; yes, I think it will be right to nullify them all. But this doesn't mean that the new guy (Ribadu's replacement) will not revisit these cases; using new approach and putting Nigeria first, the way it should have been done. This move will only set things straight and will benefit the fight against corruption in Nigeria enormously. Please forget Ribadu; he's an incredible man, but he doesn't come before Nigeria. Nigeria is a great country and our main focus should be uniting the nation and doing what is right the right way. Anything less should be immediately disabled. |
Yes, mikeansy: please go ahead and show us something new! |
Cases endorsed for trial by Ribadu since his second term may be null and void - Presidency Petitions currently before the Presidency allege that Ribadu’s re-appointment as the chairman of the EFCC was illegal and that all the cases he has endorsed for trial since his second term commenced may be null and void and the Presidency is contemplating ways of “addressing the issue”. Presidency sources say that if any of the accused persons raise the issue of the legality of Ribadu’s tenure in court, it may lead to the collapse of the entire proceedings against them. THISDAY newspapers had reported that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) had raised the issue of the legality of Ribadu’s reappointment by Obasanjo. The AGF had noted that the appointment was not approved by the last Senate as required by Section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act which states: “The Chairman and members of the commission other than the ex-officio members shall be appointed by the President subject to the confirmation of the Senate.” A source in the preseidency confirmed that the president was “deeply worried” that due process was not followed in the re-appointment of Ribadu and wants to rectify the situation based on the legal advice of the AGF. “The situation on ground now is that there is no substansive EFCC chairman because of the development,” the source said. “However, because the EFCC has been very robust and determined in its anti-graft war, the president is trying to resolve the issue with the aim of building a proper institution that will last the distance.” “The president has always vowed his full commitment to doing things the proper way, by following the rule of law and due process. In this case, it was not followed. Ribadu’s name was not sent to the Senate for confirmation as stipulated by the law, so his stay is vulnerable to legal action. The president is very worried about this development which has recently been drawn to his attention. “If you look at it very well, the president sent the name of the chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), to the Senate for re-confirmation after the expiration of her tenure. Why should Ribadu’s case be different? Things have to be done properly if our democracy is to be consolidated,” “The issue of the illegality of Ribadu’s current tenure is the one that the president is really worried about,” “Since Ribadu is going to NIPSS, I don’t think he will be re-nominated for the EFCC job.” However, legal experts disagreed with the AGF. Mr. Femi Falana, the President of the West Africa Bar Association said the AGF was only expressing his political opinion on the issue and not a legal viewpoint. Citing Section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act, Mr. Femi Falana said a Senate confirmation is required only for the first four-year term of the chairman and members of the commission. He argued that Section 3 (1) of the Act which deals with re-appointment does not have any provision for re-confirmation. Falana said "it is also settled in law that confirmation of appointment can be by conduct." "The present Senate has had cause to endorse the appointment of Ribadu when it rightly intervened in the embarrassing face-off between the AGF and EFCC. After a thorough debate, the Senate passed a resolution calling on President Yar'Adua to bring the face-off to an end." He also said that after Ribadu's re-appointment, Ribadu appeared before the two chambers of the National Assembly to defend the EFCC budget pursuant to Section 33 of the EFCC Act and in September 2007, Ribadu presented the commission's annual report to the National Assembly as stipulated by law. "Therefore, by relating with him in the last six months in the prosecution of the anti-graft war, the confirmation of the Senate cannot be questioned at this stage," Mr Falana said. He also added that the matter had already been settled by the Court of Appeal in the case of OAU Vs Dr. Kola Onabanjo whose appointment was terminated by the University three months after the three years probation period on the ground that the appointment had not been confirmed. The Appeal Court held that even though the university law stipulates confirmation in writing, since the university allowed the lecturer to teach students and receive salaries three months after the probation period, his appointment was deemed to have been confirmed. Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) said that the AGF's comment that Ribadu acted illegally as the chairman of EFCC prior to his “study leave”, only reveales his “shallow understanding” of the laws of the land. The Chairman of Council of Industrial Lawyers, said it is regrettable that the AGF could make such a comment, which in his own words do "not portray Nigeria in good light." He added that the argument that Ribadu acted illegally because his re-appointment was not confirmed by the Senate was baseless, saying an appointment once confirmed does not require to be reconfirmed. "All these don't portray Nigeria in good light. If the AGF is making such a statement, we should be asking him why he didn't say this when he just came to the office and when he said that the EFCC, ICPC and Code of Conduct of Bureau would merge. It appears that the government is looking for a way to justify the removal of Ribadu. The Senate does not need to re-confirm the appointment it had earlier confirmed unless there is another EFCC Act,” he said. Another lawyer said the essence of a Senate confirmation is for the country to know about the nominees and this was done in 2003 for Ribadu when former President Olusegun Obasanjo reappointed him. The senate, if it had any reason to object to his reappointment, would have raised it then, he said. http://ngex.com/news/public/newsinfo.php?nid=5695 |
Posted by swing4real: Big1I am only scared for you from falling on your head once again! I just don't get it, folks; why are you attacking Big B1? Did I select Ribadu or fire him? I haven't done anything wrong, but pointed out the defectiveness of a prominent Nigerian institution. What exactly is the big deal? What exactly do you expect from a dedicated citizen of Nigeria? Will it make you happier if we remain quiet and pretend as if all is well? I don't get it! This is the only way Nigeria can move forward effectively and efficiently as a nation. You can not expect every single Nigerian to lay down, fall asleep and face the same retarded direction; things will definitely fall apart this way. Growth is being able to accurately identify mistakes or defectiveness and learning from it. And it takes matureness for one to comply with this protocol. Instead of wasting time and energy castigating Big B1, may be we should all work together as one, discover what really went wrong and what could be done to prevent another Ribadu syndrome from occurring again in Nigeria. Please, keep in mind that I truly recognize the fact that the man was incredible and I do admire some of his ways, but he was sabotaged by you know! |
The big question is: what have you done for us lately, Mr. Ehindero alias Nigerian jelly fish? |
You can cry and whine, but You can never never win a fight against the president. |
We shall see! |
They will replace him now with a more compliant puppet. Now, our job is to be very attentive, watch and make sure that this replacement does what is right the right way. Trust me, I am looking and he will hear from me if he fumbles. He will be immediately sent back to his village just like Ribadu! Let us accept Ribadu's immaturity as a lesson for others. |
Why tamper with whats working. My man, what is wrong with your head? What exactly is working? Of course, EFCC could be a better institution only if it is reformed. Mr. Ribadu divided the entire country and was leading this country toward a major train wreck. Just because few were attacked and probed didn't mean war against corruption was being fought effectively. FYI:The man (RABIDU) has never never made a move on his own; he was directed every single time; and many EFCC personnel didn't care too much for this man either. This is also one of the reasons why many are currently very concerned; some already started to speculate that many EFCC personnel are starting to sing, which will definitely expose the other side of Ribadu. Is this what we want in Nigeria? |
I guess, we just have to keep on trying; it isn't over till the ugly girl sings. There is no way Nigeria as a nation will function effectively with folks like Ribadu around, carrying out operations with their own home made constitution. We are all Nigerians, we are equal and we must respect the constitution of our nation. Things must be done equally with absolutely ZERO selectivity under every circumstance. Doing the right thing the right way should be our main focus in 2008 and improvement in all things will be witnessed within a very short period. |
Even without the election rigging, Yar'Adua was the choice of many; so, deal with it! Nigerians tend to cry when ever things don't go as they desire. The man (Yar'Adua) is doing his best, in fact he is doing a magnificent job. Do you understand the amount of mess OBJ left behind? Trust me, for Nigeria as a nation to still be together at this point, President Yar'Adua is doing just fine. With time, I see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Ribadu buried himself and he knows it too; Please, let us move on and stop degrading Nigerians in general; Ribadu doesn't have 2 heads. |
EFCC: Time for Ribadu to bow out The PRONACO chief, while reviewing the state of the nation on Monday morning in Lagos, told journalists that the EFCC structure under Mallam Nuhu Ribadu had been largely selective and biased in its anti-corruption crusade. “Rather than confront the guru of fraud in the last regime, Ribadu used his position to essentially witch-hunt and harass Obasanjo’s perceived opponents and political foes. So, it appears to us that the EFCC under Ribadu was mainly established to terrorise people into Obasanjo’s agenda.” He also said throughout Ribadu’s regime, “Obasanjo, his cronies and protégés had a field day while anti third-term brigades and their family members were hounded into detention or beaten into line. He said although the anti-corruption crusade initiated by President Obasanjo helped to raise consciousness of Nigerians against corrupt practices, its prosecution was selective and poorly executed as it related to the third term agenda and Obasanjo’s interest. “It is now a common place that the EFCC has suddenly become a lame duck in prosecuting former president Obasanjo irrespective of a horde of petitions and allegations before the commission over Obasanjo’s alleged shaddy deals. “The confidence of Nigerians in the anti fraud crusade under Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is a source of worry to us and that was why the PRONACO Action Group led by Alhaji Shettimah Yerima issued a strong ultimatum to the EFCC boss last month to jettison selective prosecution or face a formal protest from the group,” Okunniyi said. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/jan/1/604.html |
work as a team leader - not the only team playerThe main key word! |
But most of those who are against Ribadu are those who stole Nigeria's money and their relatives and this group of people are in the minorityAbsolutely incorrect! You should try "those who are against Ribadu are those that understand real meaning of mission accomplished, have respect for the constitution of Nigeria, have solid facts regarding EFCC and selectivity operations, and refuse to settle for absolutely nothing" |
If there was anything like free and fair elections in Nigeria and Ribadu stands against YaraduaI'm not trying to say you guys are nobody; We are all brothers and sisters and also equal on nairaland forum. I truly feel that the Ribadu's followers are all ordinary Nigerians; it is known all over the world that to win an election you need much more than ordinary citizens. All things being equal in Nigeria, trust me, the total number of votes for Ribadu as president will not exceed 15%. |
The idea of this topic is not to stay longer, but to perform better than Ribadu. Why are we missing the point? I predict that his replacement will be better and Ribadu will be forgoten in a matter of 3 months. Secret to performing better: You must never, never be selective under every circumstance You must understand the basic logic of politics You must respect the constitution of Nigeria. Protecting pride/ image of Nigeria must be at the top of your priority list You must have self respect and respect for all Nigerian citizens regardless of the circumstance You must treat EFCC as an organization not your home based business. You must regulate your emotion at all time (The money stolen belong to Nigeria, not your father) You must not rush into anything (your home work must be properly done before making a move) And finally, you must stand upright and be firmed like a real man, not a boy scout or a political fighting tool. Up EFCC! |
Trust me, I've been very loyal, dedicated and sincere to anything that I touch; that is just the way I was taught as a child. These security personnel are lacking dedication, sincerity, and commitment; they need to be punished for not doing what they've been paid to do accordingly. They definitely have something in-common with Mr. Rabidu. Don't you think? |
We are busy pointing finger at everybody except for the security personnel; if any of them is alive, they should be punished for not doing what they were getting paid to do. I still can't believe it. |
Looking at the clip of Bhutto bizarre assassination video, I continue to witness bunch of losers (her body guards). When JFK was assassinated, you could see his body guards jumping toward him trying to cover his body, trying to take the bullets for him; but in Bhutto's case the video was totally opposite, the losers (body guards) were busy running for cover like bunch of busted rats to protect their own lives; absolutely unbelievable. What a joke! |
What would you do differently as Ribadu's replacement? Mr. Ribadu did it all from great jobs to poor jobs. In fact, during the first stage of his tenure Ribadu was described as MAGNIFICENT by many, but toward the end something went drastically wrong; he became unpopular and an easy target for many in Nigeria. What are his incredible jobs, what went wrong and how would you perform this duty differently if you were to be his replacement? FYI: Up to 5 individuals are currently being considered to replace Mr. Ribadu; one of these folks could be any of us! |
I still feel that OBJ, Ehindero and Ribadu should be prosecuted heavily for destroying a peaceful lovely land, called Ibadan! |
Obasanjo caused all the problems in Ibadan in the last two years - Lekan Are x | December 31, 2007 Chief Lekan Are, a member of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) blamed ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo for the crises that rocked Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the last two years. He said “Obasanjo caused all the problems, but now that he is no longer in power, we are expecting a change. We are calling on President Umaru Yar’Adua to do something urgent to arrest the situation. “I must be frank with you, the police have not been fair to Ibadan people over the matter. The police know the thugs and those causing problems in the city, but they have refused to arrest them. “The trouble makers have continued to enjoy the protection of the law despite all the atrocities they have committed. If the police arrest one or two them, the city will definitely know peace. “The police have not been fair to the people of Ibadan over the prolonged political crisis where a few individuals have been holding the whole of Ibadan to ransome and the police have not been helpful in the lingering political crisis rocking the town when those causing problems in the city have continued to enjoy the protection of the law.” http://www.ngex.com/news/public/newsinfo.php?nid=5684# |
I totally agree! You just don't bite those folks that removed you from KUJE mansion! |
Wow, Nigerians are starting to drink holy water one by one. Bravo! It is a total disrespect to Nigerians in general to continue to cry like bunch of pus sy cats. Are you guys telling me that there isn't any other Nigerian who could do better than RIBADU? If this is the case, then shame on you folks. But at the same time, it is nice that some of us are starting to see the light! |
Bring it on! |
Fighting corruption in Nigeria is not a one man business. Thus, I will not miss Ribadu. There are people who can do the job like him and even do better. I hope they probe him and ask him to declare his assets. We all know how much Police officers make in Nigeria. i can't wait to see his declared assets.I agree! |
