Politics / RUGIPOLY Crisis: Owo Indigenes Rise Against Akeredolu’s Reelection by bigboluet(m): 2:31am On Aug 07, 2020
…Says He Has Wrecked Economic Activities In Owo

The Indigenes of Owo, the home town of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu have vowed to work against his reelection in the forthcoming governorship poll.

The indigenes under the aegis of Owo Youths For Sustainable Development said Akeredolu who is the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ondo 2020 has wrecked their economic activities with his maladministration and insensitivity to welfare of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Staff.

The group in a statement issued on Thursday by its Coordinator, Adedayo Olagbegi noted that Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Staff and students are main drivers of Owo Economic Activities, saying non payment of salaries, increment in tuition fee and frequent industrial strike are having negative effect on the indigenes.

Olagbegi said: ”Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has caused alot of havoc to indigenes and residents of Owo. We are also feeling the negative impact of increment of tuition fees and percentage payment to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic staff. The landlords, traders, artisans, transport workers and others are indirectly sharing in suffering as well as pains of the polytechnic staff and students. The school population has reduced drastically due to increment in school fees, the staff are always going on strike under Akeredolu.

”No significant change in Owo town in the last four years despite having a son as governor. Akeredolu does not deserve second term and we shall mobilise our people against him. Only his family are enjoying government benefits, dividends of democracy should be for everybody. We will not use sentiment to vote during October 10 governorship election.”

The group advised the youths, elders, women and others not to sell their votes for another four years of suffering.

PRESS STATEMENT

RE: AGBOOLA AJAYI JOINS ZLP

We take note of the information being promoted and spread across social media platforms that HE. Barr. Agboola Ajayi, the incumbent Deputy Governor and Member of the PDP has concluded plans to join the Zenith Labour Party.

For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Agboola Ajayi remains a valuable and respected member of the PDP and has not informed the party of his intention to leave and remains a committed member of the party.

Please note that clarification on the allegation has been sought from the Deputy Governor and assurances given to the leadership of the party of his intention to stay in the PDP. We therefore implore all members of the party and the general public to disregard the information as H.E. has assured the party leaders and elders (on his honor) of not leaving.

Our efforts at winning the next election remains ongoing and we are committed to removing the incumbent governor through a free and fair election.

Thank you.

It has become clear that the gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede would not pick the incumbent Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi as his running-mate.

Jegede on Monday submitted names of two members of the party to the leadership of the party in Akure, the state capital, for it to pick one of them as his running-mate.

The persons on the list submitted by the PDP’s standard bearer for the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state are Hon. Gboluga Ikengboju and Mrs. Banke Sutton.

This development, however, put to rest the rumour that the PDP’s candidate was considering picking the incumbent deputy governor as his running-mate.

Jegede emerged victorious with 888 votes at the Wednesday party’s primary which held at the DOME, while the incumbent Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, came second with 657 votes.

At least 10 undergraduates of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, were attacked and beaten by some thugs on Friday evening.

The thugs were said to be working for a group known as 'Aketi Students Support Group' seeking the re-election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo.

Led by immediate past President of the National Association of Ondo State Students, Mr Olarewanju Akeredolu, the group is said to have been moving around campuses in the state to coerce students into supporting the governor for a second term in office.

SaharaReporters gathered on Saturday that trouble started when members of the group stormed the ACE and OAUSTECH and attempted to force students to endorse Governor Akeredolu.

A source disclosed that leader of the group got infuriated by the resistance of the students and moved in thugs, who unleashed mayhem on the students.

Confirming the incident, Okunomo Damilola, President, Students Union Government in OAUSTECH, said the group arrived at the gate of the campus to distribute some items and asked few students on campus to support Governor Akeredolu's second term bid by taking photograph with them.

He said, "But we told him (Akeredolu) and his members that we could not do that. We said if we did that, it means we are satisfied with the present situation in our campuses.

"Governor Rotimi Akeredolu reviewed upward our tuition to N200, 000 as engineering students and we don't have enough lecturers, no power supply on our campus, lecture rooms are not enough, no laboratories.

"Now, some group of people are coming to us because of their selfish interest and personal gains to coerce us to support the same governor who made education costly for us for another four years.

"When we declared to them that we can't support the governor, they attacked a few of us on campus with their thugs.

"They snatched and destroyed phones of some of us who were taking photographs and recording their violent activities at our school gate."

When contacted by SaharaReporters, Akeredolu confirmed visiting the schools for the endorsement of the governor but denied attacking students of the two institutions for refusing to support for the governor.

Akeredolu explained that his group was touring campuses in the state to distribute palliatives to students, who were still on campus and couldn't travel back home as a result of COVID-19 and the lockdown.

He added that he and members of his group had earlier visited the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko and
the College of Health Technology, Akure, to promote the second term ambition of Governor Akeredolu without any issue.

Reacting, the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee, Ondo State Chairman, Akinteye Babatunde, and Adekunle Oluwatayo, Director of Media and Publicity, called on the Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, to order the arrest of the leader of the group, who attacked students.

Politics / Chaos As Agboola Ajayi Attempts To Compromise Pdp Ad Hoc Delegate Election by bigboluet(m): 2:32am On Jul 10, 2020
A protest was staged earlier today at Heritage Hotel, venue of the PDP Ad Hoc results computation when the embattled Deputy Governor of the state, Mr
Agboola Ajayi allegedly attempted to bribe the members of the panel to replace the names of duky elected delegates across the 203 wards of Ondo state.

Mr. Ajayi in the company of some of his campaign members like Dr. Kola Ademujimi, Engr. J J Ajayi and the House of Assembly member representing Idanre Hon. Festus Akingbaso was alleged to have been at the hotel with members of the Election panel while other aspirants were locked out.

The state caretaker Chairman Engr Clement Faboyede and his caretaker committee members were also not seen at the collation centre amidst accusations that the chairman had colluded with the embattled Deputy Governor to provide him some leverage in the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries of the party.

Our reporter at the scene also reported that a large crowd gathered chanting war songs against the Chairman and the embattled Deputy Governor. A member of the party at the hotel told our reporter that the Deputy Governor had offered a whooping sum of Eight million naira to the members of the committee to substitute the names of delegates. Information also gathered laid accusations against some of the panel members that they demanded money and threatened some of the local government chairmen that they must pay them some funds to ensure that their list was not tampered with.

As at press time, a huge crowd was still at the hotel chanting invectives.

Politics / Ondo Assembly Writes CJ Over Planned Impeachment Of Deputy Governor by bigboluet(m): 2:32pm On Jul 09, 2020
The nine members of the Ondo State House of Assembly who are opposing the illegal arrangements to impeach the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Alfred Agboola Ajayi on Thursday 9th July, 2020, took a step further by writing the Chief Judge of the state Justice O.O. Akeredolu distancing themselves from the impeachment plot against the Deputy Governor.

The letter reads: kindly be informed that Nine (9) underlisted elected Honourable Members of Ondo State House of Assembly have duly disassociated ourselves from the ongoing impeachment process of the Deputy Governor, H.E (HON) Agboola Afred Ajayi in a letter dated 7th July,2020, to the clerk and the Rt Honourable Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly here with attached.

We want to state and confirm to your good office that we maintain our stand by dissociating ourselves from the impeachment process. We are not in support of the impeachment based on our individual personal conviction.

We are rest assured that your lordship will uphold section 188 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) particularly section 188 (3)(4)(5)-(11)

It is equally worthy of note that the total membership of Ondo State House of Assembly is (26) twenty six in which the 2/3 is 18, AND THIS REMAINS THE CONSTITUTIONALLY REQUIRED NUMBER IRRESPECTIVE OF ANY ARBITRARY SUSPENSION

We are writing to call your attention to the fact that all or some of us who are signatories to this letter may be suspended in order to circumvent the provision of the Constitution of Nigeria, which we all swore to uphold and protect, including your honourable Lordship, as this will be contrary to the laws of the land.

Please accept the assurance of our highest consideration.
