BusinessDr Innocent Chukwuma, Why Not?: An Open Letter! by Bigkoko(op): 11:59am On May 07, 2022
Dr Innocent Chukwuma: An open letter Sir!

I have always held, and will continue to hold in the highest regards Dr Innocent Chukwuma, the Capo Di Tuti Capi of Nnewi based Innoson Motors with localized brand of IVM vehicles currently on sale in the Nigerian market. That is a tough, Smart business man without much of political backing or baggages! Thumbs up for you sir! You're one of my motivating factor!

But, no business truly outgrow it's competitors without spreading it's tenacity, tentacles and Outpost outside its local Markets.... Competition is currently being built in Nigeria to cut you and your vehicle manufacturing to size. You have to act fast! Part of my Work routine is digging out information, research from places least expected, and sometimes I'm baffled by what I dig out!

Nigerian market is big, but you need other Market too. Think about the new line of spare parts productions, value Chain & ancillary Products that you will build for another Market.
Local Chinese in China can buy and patronize all China made goods because they got the population, but you see them pushing in all stuffs into all Markets world wide... that's how to dominate the business world and keep competition at barest minimum.

Same with the Europeans & American Companies... Their footprints is everywhere, anywhere, where ever a dollar is hidden, They are there, even formenting chaos, wars and all that.

Take Dangote for instance. The Kano born dude has cement and other holdings in Tanzania and East Africa. Guess what? The price of Dangote cement is cheaper here than in Nigeria where all inputs are available.

As the Brain behind Bigkoko African Integrated Services Ltd Kigali Rwanda, I encourage competition but not competition the government sponsor or has interest in. Your future Competitor has strong government support, but I trust the strength behind your success so far, and it's on this note I feel you should take the plunge in other continental market....
EAC Market is large.... Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, DRC Congo, S. Sudan is over 150 million potential customers. And there's few trade barrier between these!

You Sir, Dr Innocent Chukwuma might be, and/or, more than wealthy than Dangote, but you're constrained or too confined to Nigeria. If your team can not go global due to factors only you and your team understand, perhaps you might want to consider going Continental...

It won't cost you much. Even if it's just a Market observation Outpost, I encourage you do it. You might want to engage us to do an independent, all encompassing Feasibility Study of the Pros & Cons of establishing here. Also, this won't cost you much if you engage us. Your team can also carry out same and you compare both findings for better decision.

I understand the business world is like an ocean filled with predators: political, intellectual, religious but the presence of predators can not stop a determined business man from aspiring to be at the top of the Food Chain! There are several ways to kill a rat.
We have our own fair share of such struggle, and we fully understand.

You need to have a car Dealership or outlet in Kigali. You're supposed to be covered by at least two African treaties: Afcta & AU which Nigeria and Rwanda are signatories to. Once you are here, you might want to take advantage of what COMESA has to offer. I learnt this working on trade Deal with a Mauritius based Company looking Eastwards.

Now,
Rwanda has no sea port but there's one nearby on two Axis: Dar Salaam & Mombasa.

Rwanda to Kenya costs approximately $30 by coach bus, and it's less than 20 hours, more like going from Port Harcourt to Kano. The roads are good. I dare say it's more expensive transporting cars by road from Lagos/Nnewi to Kano, than from Mombasa to Kigali, or from Dar Salaam to Kigali. You can form a pincer if you want...Dar Salaam-kigali-mombasa. All things be equal.

Once you register a domestic Company in Rwanda, the EAC Protocol covers your import & exports. You will be treated like a Rwandan Company and all Rights given as such.
Vehicles are damn expensive here, and are skewed to some specific types. I guess a Feasibility Study will give you all these information.

No better opportunity to show case some of your IVM brands especially that Ikenga; I understand it's rugged, could have been better than the forthcoming CHOGM holding in Kigali Rwanda soon. In one fell swoop, Africa would have heard about your rugged SUVs & APC carriers. War is bad and regrettable but I dare say it's good for some specific products. DRC, Burundi, S Sudan is enmeshed in strifes. Your APC carriers could sell in those locations. Especially as the government battles insurgent rebels. DRC Congo is an Ocean of mineral wealth. Lots of foreign Govt are there!
Anyway, it's never too late to start planning for the future.

Lots of these Asian cars here ain't competitive as yours... So you might want to give it a try.

Lobbying might be needed. As a business man, I believe in guarantees. It's Not bribery, neither is it inducement. It's perfectly legal.
Western Companies do it. NGO do it. It's called leverage.
The guys here are open to such situations.
See how their leader did a smart diplomatic maneuvering with the Brits in return for hundreds of millions of pounds in Asylum Processing bullshit? Whatever that means! That's what I call lobbying!

There are four factors that determine your success in life, business or and pleasurable or non pleasurable endeavors.

1. Intelligence/Smartness.
2. Strength/Brute Force.
3. Capital/Financial means.
4. Divine Mercy/Luck/Grace/God factor...if you believe in that sort of thing. Yes, I Mr Koko himself believe in God (specifically, the Bible God!)

At any point in time, you must have at least two of the above factors counting in your favor. At least Two. With that, you will be at average.... This is the minimum!

At three of these factors counting on your favor, you're on your way to becoming a millionaire.

Four of the above, congratulations man! You're on your way to becoming a billionaire!

Any adjustments at any point in time, will definitely affect your riches!

I will explain each of them and give examples.
BusinessRe: Why Businesses Fail! by Bigkoko(op): 8:11am On May 05, 2022
Business most times fail when operating expenses is more than Revenue. This is usually compounded when you took a loan to Startup!
Yours truly; Bigkoko African Integrated Services Ltd resisted this temptation to take a loan from the bank to scale up....

Our Account officer was like, let's give you $5,000 to scale up, bring in technologies, and all that..... I laughed. $5000 at what costs? My peace? Monthly deductions? I told her thanks. No, thanks!
But I know many inexperienced entrepreneurs would rush on it and start hoping for miracles!

As a Business Development Expert, I already know our operating expenses differentials is almost 80% what we end as revenue in a month, so it will be sucidal if I stupidly take that easy loan.....

Note.
Once operating expenses mark up is exceeded by 300% differentials...., Your business is in emergency unit and pooped up on steroids! It's a matter of time before you go out of business!

To safeguard a new or established business, it is necessary to understand what can lead to business failure and how each obstacle can be managed or avoided altogether. The most common reasons small businesses fail include a lack of capital or funding, retaining an inadequate management team, a faulty infrastructure or business model, and unsuccessful marketing initiatives.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Running out of money is a small business’s biggest risk. Owners often know what funds are needed day to day but are unclear as to how much revenue is being generated, and the disconnect can be disastrous.
Inexperience managing a business—or an unwillingness to delegate—can negatively impact small businesses, as can a poorly visualized business plan, which can lead to ongoing problems once the firm is operational.
Poorly planned or executed marketing campaigns, or a lack of adequate marketing and publicity, are among the other issues that drag down small businesses.

1. Financing Hurdles
A primary reason why small businesses fail is a lack of funding or working capital. In most instances a business owner is intimately aware of how much money is needed to keep operations running on a day-to-day basis, including funding payroll; paying fixed and varied overhead expenses, such as rent and utilities; and ensuring that outside vendors are paid on time; however, owners of failing companies are less in tune with how much revenue is generated by sales of products or services. This disconnect leads to funding shortfalls that can quickly put a small business out of operation.

A second reason is business owners who miss the mark on pricing products and services. To beat out the competition in highly saturated industries, companies may price a product or service far lower than similar offerings, with the intent to entice new customers.

While the strategy is successful in some cases, businesses that end up closing their doors are those that keep the price of a product or service too low for too long. When the costs of production, marketing, and delivery outweigh the revenue generated from new sales, small businesses have little choice but to close down.

Small companies in the startup phase can face challenges in terms of obtaining financing in order to bring a new product to market, fund an expansion, or pay for ongoing marketing costs. While angel investors, venture capitalists, and conventional bank loans are among the funding sources available to small businesses, not every company has the revenue stream or growth trajectory needed to secure major financing from them. Without an influx of funding for large projects or ongoing working capital needs, small businesses are forced to close their doors.

To help a small business manage common financing hurdles, business owners should first establish a realistic budget for company operations and be willing to provide some capital from their own coffers during the startup or expansion phase.

It is imperative to research and secure financing options from multiple outlets before the funding is actually necessary. When the time comes to obtain funding, business owners should already have a variety of sources they can tap for capital.

2. Inadequate Management
Another common reason small businesses fail is a lack of business acumen on the part of the management team or business owner. In some instances, a business owner is the only senior-level person within a company, especially when a business is in its first year or two of operation.

While the owner may have the skills necessary to create and sell a viable product or service, they often lack the attributes of a strong manager and don't have the time to successfully oversee other employees. Without a dedicated management team, a business owner has greater potential to mismanage certain aspects of the business, whether it be finances, hiring, or marketing.

Most small businesses start out with the entrepreneur's savings or money from friends and family and then look for outside financing to grow.
Smart business owners outsource the activities they do not perform well or have little time to successfully carry through. A strong management team is one of the first additions a small business needs to continue operations well into the future. It is important for business owners to feel comfortable with the level of understanding each manager has regarding the business’ operations, current and future employees, and products or services.

3. Ineffective Business Planning
Small businesses often overlook the importance of effective business planning prior to opening their doors. A sound business plan should include, at a minimum:

A clear description of the business
Current and future employee and management needs, Opportunities and threats within the broader market, Capital needs, including projected cash flow and various budgets, Marketing initiatives, Competitor analysis.

Business owners who fail to address the needs of the business through a well-laid-out plan before operations begin are setting up their companies for serious challenges. Similarly, a business that does not regularly review an initial business plan—or one that is not prepared to adapt to changes in the market or industry—meets potentially insurmountable obstacles throughout the course of its lifetime.

To avoid pitfalls associated with business plans, entrepreneurs should have a solid understanding of their industry and competition before starting a company. A company’s specific business model and infrastructure should be established long before products or services are offered to customers, and potential revenue streams should be realistically projected well in advance. Creating and maintaining a business plan is key to running a successful company for the long term.

4. Marketing Mishaps
Business owners often fail to prepare for the marketing needs of a company in terms of capital required, prospect reach, and accurate conversion-ratio projections. When companies underestimate the total cost of early marketing campaigns, it can be difficult to secure financing or redirect capital from other business departments to make up for the shortfall.

Because marketing is a crucial aspect of any early-stage business, it is necessary for companies to ensure that they have established realistic budgets for current and future marketing needs.

Similarly, having realistic projections in terms of target audience reach and sales conversion ratios is critical to marketing campaign success. Businesses that do not understand these aspects of sound marketing strategies are more likely to fail than companies that take the time to create and implement cost-effective, successful campaigns.

What Is the Small Business Failure Rate?
Approximately 40% of small businesses fail in their first year, 60% fail within five years, and 11% make it to 10 years and further.

What Are Some Signs That Your Business Is Failing?
Signs that a business is failing include small levels or lack of cash, heavy operating expenses, inability to pay back loans on time, inability to pay suppliers on time, customers that pay late, loss of clientele, and an unclear business strategy.

BusinessRe: Bigkoko Business Advisory: Tourism Related Business In Rwanda/eac by Bigkoko(op): 12:27pm On May 03, 2022
When you come here to do business, There are businesses you should not do....no matter what persuasions, skills or capacity you got.

These include:
Restaurants or Restobars.
Boucherie or Butchery.
Barbing or Hair salon.
Bike or motor transportation within Kigali.
And any business you compete directly with locals.

These are pro Bono advise.
For instance, Restaurants. A Rwandan will, I repeat, will never leave a Rwandan restaurant, eatery, shop, Boucherie, and patronize yours! They may patronize you one day, two days and stop. Two days doesn't pay operating expenses at the end of month! They always want to take from you, it's like a mentally firmly ingrained in them. And it's widespread!

So what business should you do as a foreigner? Lots!

Again this is a pro Bono advise. However, We are not liable for any info hereinafter without proper and professional guidance.

A foreigner should engage in business where competition from locals & big players is significantly eliminated. By big players I mean big Western companies. By locals, I mean Rwandans.

Let's take Tourism for example.
Big players are not well concentrated here in Kigali. You might find them in Mombasa, Nairobi Kenya and Dar Salaam, Zanzibar Tanzania...but here, I have not heard, seen or refer clients to top Private Tourism Companies! If you know please tell me.

Rwandans don't have the flexibility to customize services according to perceived needs of potential customers! This is a major skill an entrepreneur should have. People pay for solutions, not because they actually like you. Start with the problem, then design a solution and build a business around it. Easier said than done.
This is one of the reasons why Bigkoko African Integrated services LTD is a preferred Company any day, any time! We're amorphous. We're flexible. We are Idabosky. And we can adapt!

It's a known fact that at least 30% of all potential tourists World wide won't patronize big players for obvious reasons like costs, customer service, long protocols etc. These 30% are what you as a new entrants should target as a tour company.

In Kenya, you can see private companies offering Tour services to the west. You can target your services to poor, low budget citizens of Western world... ohhh you don't know there are poor people in the west who go for vacation as well as the Rich people?

These services includes chartered flights, EAC Visas, cheaper bookings for accommodation, and other stuffs they need at 40% off the price Big Companies give. Big companies won't do that because it means small profits. But these profits are good for you as a small business!

You see our logic. Here in Kigali, competition from locals and big players are significantly eliminated. They may exist but not to the extent of giving a smart entrepreneur sleepless nights!

You can customize services according to what services is been asked on Expatriate forums! You can offer to use your Cash and get paid later. These 30% crumbs is nothing to big players, but to you as a New Entrant it means thousands of dollars in a FY.

Because there exist an EAC protocol. Starting from Kigali Rwanda would make grow fast at 20% the supposed costs associated in Kenya or Tanzania!

To succeed, you must tap from our Business Development experience. Book us for consultation. Order our Tour Business package.
Thank you!

Freebies of information about doing business in Rwanda.

One of the first thing you notice when you land in Kigali international airport is that you are not asked a bribe before you are stamped in, like they do asked for in MM international airport Lagos or azikiwe international airport Abuja, and everyone has a smile for you...it's quite enchanting and disarming. Well, after some few days if you are smart you'd find out it's a plastic smile! Watch your pocket very well.
As a business person, I don't throw money anyhow because legitimate income is tough to come by.

In Kigali, everyone wants to take from you especially when you don't speak Kinyrwanda or Swahili.... Jambo...karibu.....Maramuse..... And ironically, they don't want to give their best in return. Though, they may not be that skilled in your particular kind of endeavor.
They have this crazy, annoying mindset that all foreigners comes fully loaded with dollars!
What they don't understand is that even the Europeans coming here, do come to hustle too.

When you come here, be like the Indians or the Chinese. They dig. They don't follow the vanities of big ass or busty boobs...or fair cute skins. Know why you are here. That's why they're amongst the most successful migrants all over the world!

Watch your living expenses more than anything. Don't get blackmailed by iPhone flashing ladies.... even the guys too....yes, almost all the ladies here have iPhones. Most ladies I dare say, who do have iPhones, especially those who are not employed are hookers.... In the evenings they hit bars where they give interested person's sex in return for say $100. As a business man, trying to convert your $3000 investment into profits, you should not do that. Make sure you go with the exact amount you intend to spend on Skol, Mutzig, Primus or anything you drink.
Don't let them blackmail you to pay $100 for sex just to proof you are rich. Love doesn't exist here! If you don't heed these advice You will run out of cash faster than I would drop scorching hot potatoes! I know many who have! And today, some are stranded.

Beware of anything Free by a Rwandan or anyone telling you he or she is doing it for Free for you. It's a lie. There's payment hidden somewhere! Ask for it, negotiate fully, and make sure there's a full understanding of what you expect in return and what you pay.

Be careful when you go to Facebook forums and get people saying they do it for you free....
There's nothing Free here. Either they double the price of what you should paid or otherwise!

You can consult us for Business Development, Market Research, Company Registration Etc. A fee applies! Thank you!

BusinessRe: Bigkoko Vendors Forum: Thread Where Info On Bids Are Found by Bigkoko(op): 4:23pm On May 02, 2022
Wow..... We have received over 20 Bids for some of the items listed here. 90% of those submitting Bids to supply are not our vendors! They're not registered with us! And we're not obligated to reply them.

The information is very clear, straight forward. You must register with us either as a Company or individual, and a Certificate of Registration (CoR) issued to you. The CoR is your gate pass to submit Bids.

All Bid must be accompanied by your unique ID which is found on your CoR.

We can only accept just 7 vendors under Micro Scale & 7 vendors under Small Scale. (14 in all).

As suggested by a vendor, all Vendors who won Bids would send their Goods to an Agent in Lagos, we shall communicate his Identify for all to know. He will inspect, assemble & pack all supplied items well before dispatching via Rwandair or Kenya Airways.

This measure is to ease logistics challenge for Vendors residing out side Lagos or Abuja/within airport cities. This is a temporal measure so landing costs don't eat too deep on profits.

Thank you!
