godschoice1050: Please gurus will I be needing to show a certain amount of BTA or PTA before boarding or POE please if I will, how much exactly do I require to hold. Urgent please flying next day!!! You are not required to carry cash with you for POE sakes; just your passport and I-20 which should be in your carry-on. I would just take some dollars, maybe $100 for miscellaneous expenses in the airport and for transportation to your destination. The max you can carry to avoid declaration is $10k. |

The question should be, can you afford what's left. You don't want to find yourself in a fix. Why don't you look for a public university you can afford, or at least a top private school if going that route. |

Nihilist: 4 pks in 3 games is completely unsustainable. Rooney is playing in central midfield and yesterday needed two pks to score one goal, and his assist came via a speculative shot from like 30 yards.
I dont think thats value, i think Rooney's irish roots have manifested by turning him into a leprechaun on the pitch recently, but that luck is going to run out soon.... I would still expect Rooney to do well against Chelsea though. Everton's new formation favors him...plus yeah PKs too |

A company in the US I meant While there are a few cases where this happens i.e. filing of H1-B for someone who is resident in Nigeria, it is highly unlikely-except your friend is some really hot cake, or is an executive at a multinational company already..say with a branch in Nigeria in which case they'll probably do an L-1. Tell your friend to come ask questions him/herself, and then he can better rephrase his question. BTW, this is not to be taken as a legal advice |

Now his brother in the US which is a green card holder is filing an H1b visa for him which would be done with the processing in few weeks time. Please what are his chances of getting an H1b visa approved or there’s no problem?
Cc @Lagosismyhome, Twoods, Femi312, bigfrancis and all other gurus in the house Lol @bolded..only companies can file H1-B. A green card holder can only file anything at all for his/her spouse or unmarried children. Siblings obviously don't qualify under this requirement.Your friend and friend's brother both need to familiarize themselves with the US immigration system. |

Time2Smile: I really empathize with what you are going through because I am in a similar situation, although my wife is not applying anytime soon and I was not asked about my family during my interview. You have probably painted a mental image of how you will meet them at the airport.
I agree with Lagosismyhome that you should give it some time before they reapply. You should wait until maybe Fall, 2018. When they do finally reapply, your wife should make a passionate case of how it has been extremely difficult living apart. That you are making good progress in your PhD but the separation of the family is taking a mental toll on you. Also, you don't want your daughter to grow up in the absence of his father and how you are missing out on watching your daughter grow too. How she is always asking about Daddy (which am sure she does if she is old enough).
So you have to be patient for a little while because I don't think B1 visa is a good option. All the best. The bolded plea won't work at all, at least for a dependent visa..may be an okay supporting point for a visit visa case. For a dependent visa, provided that the principal beneficiary with an F-1 visa here is in good standing, the burden lies on the applicant(s) to prove they'll be taken care of i.e. there is enough funds to take care of everyone. Of course, to also prove that the whole family is not just relocating without plans of coming back. Applying for multiple types of visa within a small time window can signal desperation and 'immigrant intent'. |

TWoods: This is why selecting top schools is vital. Applying for an H1B has become expensive so a lot of low to mid-tier companies will pass on you since they can find an equally qualified American and avoid the legal hassle to employ you. Big companies have dedicated lawyers whose job is to basically treat you like a baby until they get you a GC. You do absolutely nothing and pay zero. It's a nice life if you work hard and know how to navigate the system.
It's nice to see that someone else is thinking about life after an F1 visa. Too often folks here focus so much on getting the F1 that they forget that the F1 visa doesn't last forever. Yup. It's not rocket science. Some Nigerians get their EB green cards in 3-5 years after graduating if selected in the lottery the first time. |

omoluabiguy: First bolded: when you say advanced degree, do you mean masters and PhD or just PhD? Whatever the answer to that is, do you mean you have more chances of getting approved for H1B when you have a higher degree compared to Bsc holders?
Second bolded: I totally get the Puzzle as to why Indians get it a lot now which makes the struggle for others stronger. I stick with honesty, but from your view as an experienced person who has been thru the process, Is it advisable to chose “Yes” when applying for a job and the regular questions of “would you need a sponsorship” pops up? I’ll be starting my OPT next year and I think it’s time I need to get exposed to how things are done after school
I would appreciate some explanations on these pls Ideally, for your OPT, you want to apply to companies that would eventually take care of your H1-B and GC (or at least just H1-B). H1-B needs to be filed and approved while you're on OPT, meaning there is really no gap to allow your company to start your H1-B filing once you're done with OPT. The max you get I believe is 12 months + 24 months extension if in STEM, which can give your company up to 2 or 3 chances at the lottery depending on when during the year you get hired and how long your company will eventually take to prepare your application. Basically, you need to do your research well when submitting job applications on OPT. There are lots of resources out there online. Just keep reading. At this point you need all the information you can get! |

SophiaLisa: Good Morning Peeps, I need guidance.
My F1 visa expires in February 2018, while my Post-OPT expires in May 2018. What documents do I need to renew the F1 visa in Nigeria? What are the chances of getting the renewal? Your guidance will be appreciated! Just check the US embassy website for requirements. It looks like you started OPT already...assuming you didn't do Pre-OPT. In that case, I wouldn't advise you to travel (while on OPT or even close to the end of your program). Your F-1 was for the duration of your studies and OPT only extends it sort of. At this point, what you should be seeking is H1-B sponsorship if you are not planning move back home . And as you probably know already, a visa is just an entry document. Once you're in, there is no need to go and renew it except you plan to travel out of the country while studying. |

oluwadamilare26: I think best and safer response to that question has always been NO... even if your whole family is there... for F-1 Visa... No is kinda better so as to let them know you got no ties in the USA which mean that you are surely coming back home. You really don't want to be lying to VOs. The best thing is always to be truthful and apt, not volunteering unnecessary and in some cases, unfavorable information. |
