Well said Femi. I work for the school here in US and in a very sensitive department. I have signed an undertaken not to disclose some sensitive information. It is not a good idea to disclose that here on a public forum so that is the reason why i said anyone should PM m
And it's a okay to then violate a non-disclosure agreement in an email? Btw..I don't think anything relating to general school admissions should involve NDAs-these are infos you can easily look up and disclose!

Just wondering if there is anyone from this thread in SUNY, Buffalo or other schools in buffalo so we can connect. Male or female? I just moved here and would be here for at least 2 years.
Nice one. Away from the city smiley

Hello guys I'm a newbie here. I found this thread about 3 days ago. I'm currently still reading the earlier threads so I can get answers to some general questions. I must say you guys are doing soo well, everyone on this site has helped people from the university application stage to visa approvals. God richly bless everyone here.

I am a Fall 2018 aspirant with 3.92 GPA (out of 4) and GRE of 319 (163 Quant, 156 verbal and 4.5 analytical). I've applied to four US schs for Masters and I'm still waiting for their responses.

I hope by God's grace I'll get admission with full funding and get my visa approved. Once again, kuddos to you guys.
You should have at least 2 top schools in your application pool. Make sure to get great letters of recommendation!

So I had my second interview yesterday. I had already posted the first during which I wasn't confident enough to present my case.
So this is the 2nd:
V.O : Good morning
Me: Good morning ma'am (with a smile )
V.O: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going for my masters in Prjt Mangmt at Morgan state University Baltimore.
V.O : Why are you switching from Geology?
Me: Project Management will give me a right platform to grow in my career. I have taken on many project management projects in my organisation even gotten an award as a best project management team member on a Chevron Project but because I don't a degree in Project Management, Jobs are not assigned to me.
Also my organisation has stated in my study leave that on my return with this dregree from Morgan I will be qualified to apply for a promotion.
Project Management will not limit me to my Organisation as I intend to move to other industries on my return to Nigeria, gather experince and set up my own project management firm here in Nigeria.
Visa issues aside, you can go for a PMP course instead and learn most of the things needed in a workplace as a project manager..and in fact meet the project management requirements of most jobs. I would drill down in something Geology-related and that is industry-friendly and then write PMP exams or go for an MBA, if I were you.

thanks a lot @LagosismyHome your pms and calls really helped a lot

@Teedawg thanks for your savage response all the same

and for those applying to Bowie State University, keep off!!!.

cheers
Most people would probably apply to multiple universities anyways..in which case this would just be a minus one. I had a similar issue with a school I once applied to as well. Good thing was I had backups.

This is strange. Are you talking of OPT or CPT?
OPT
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by biikeys(m): 10:49pm On Jan 07, 2018
TWoods:
The OPT is being actively looked at. It will most definitely be scaled back to 12 months. The OPT is not the prerogative of the school, it is a USCIS rule.
DSOs (really the school) still have some role to play..such as recommending OPT-eligible students for the program in SEVIS on time before those students can apply with USCIS, determining what jobs relate to the course of study in cases in cases things are not well defined etc.
If what's being looked at is the duration, then sure it's out of the control of the school for the most part.

A Nigerian I met here told me that when he came in, it was the same thing.in fact he's was stricter. They made it clear that if you don't come on the orientation day that you would forfeit your admission. So I still think it varies with different schools.
Really shocked

A staff at my school's center for international students mentioned that the OPT program is under review. I then remembered that TWOODS already said that here. Make Oga Trump no mess with me o. Me that supported him all the way. I hope it doesn't affect STEM programs sha.
That might just be the school..changes currently being looked into are wrt H1-B extension. I haven't anything concrete about OPT yet.

just started to think about it too, what do you suggest i do, i want to defer my admission till fall, i really need this course and the knowledge it promises to render are attracting so i am thinking to defer till fall so i can be psychologically prepared and balanced and meanwhile can i take the TOEFL during the time so i will just resume my degree program in full by fall?
You can prepare for and write TOEFL in 2 weeks or thereabout. It's no big deal. If you have the time, you can still write it before travellng. You should contact your school though, to make sure that English course will be waived on presenting your TOEFL result. You might even be able to write it while on campus before the session starts or something around that. You can choose to defer till Fall too-instead of wasting precious money. You already have your visa-so you don't have to go in for another interview..all you'll need is a new I-20.

Either that or he can non performance would be cool
When is he coming back?

I was interviewed on tue 2nd Feb, 6.30am appointment, the vo that interviewed me was very friendly, her smile sef gave me courage.
I got to know of this thread after I had booked an appointment and was scheduled four days ahead. so I had a lot of issues with my application, I don't know those things are big deals, but I determined I was not going to let it hold me down, I would push through, I have God, a burning desire and a little fear that motivated me to prepare more.....i read so many transcripts and I just got four days to prepare.

ps: the fact I did not write toefl does not mean I wouldn't have written it if I know it assists in the application. I was ignorant of the fact.

pps: also the fact I chose one school too, was because of my ignorance, I don't know it matters

ppps: the fact that I scaled through by grace does not mean you would too, please do the adequate preparations before applying for a school.

pppps: I would not have posted it, but because I sincerely want to help people yet to get an interview, it was people's transcript that I read that assisted me so much, so please don't take this as show off or a means to intimidate people, it is solely for learning...

enof noise making......here is that awkward but interesting conversation, I thank everyone who has assisted me directly or indirectly, and may God bless the person that created this thread...

Me: Good morning

Vo: Good morning
Where are you going to study?

Me: Tiffin university Ohio

Vo: What degree

Me: Bsc computer information systems majoring in software development (she checks my I20 and saw that it was an ESL course that was written there)

Vo: so, you would take an English language course before your degree course?

Me: Yes ma!!
Why are you going there to waste your money on an English course when you could have spent a tiny fraction on TOEFL....

Happy new year bro...you made a very huge mistake...Am the guy your referring to am yet to apply...and am going for an undergraduate program.

why will I open a new moniker?
I appreciate your advice and I really understand where your coming from and I have considered so many things..Am leaving community colleges not cause you said so...but because I don't want to have any loopholes in my application. people with genuine intention and well stated reasons can still get a visa with the community college.

according to the V.O thread on F1 visa..I was made to understand that applying to community collage is never red flag as long as the school can issue an i20...and you are able to meet up the requirements..you will get your visa
thanks and Don't say something you not sure of next time so you don't get to accuse someone wrongly...For your mind your prophecy really came to past.
Two things..1) Visa 2) Career ....good luck with both!

But can't blame the lender...higher rates to cover the risk
Yeah. Just for those planning to take a loan to know those interests on a >$60k tuition add up quickly and it can take forever to pay back, even with a high-paying job straight out of school. I would rather still look around for a lower interest rate, or avoid taking a loan altogether of which I'm a proponent.

Thanks for this. I've heard from gurus here and things like this are very helpful as no one is an island of knowledge. I am an analytical chemist and what I do is separation science and environmental fingerprinting; basically using chromatography and mass spectrometry to detect environmental pollutants. My interest is not limited to this because I can also work as a QC chemist in pharmaceutical industries but I fancy my chances as a lab analyst in a food, drug amd envirinmental analysis laboratory.
On applying early, how early should one apply? I've heard different opinions about this.
Also, the main challenge as we all know is visa sponsorship. How can one navigate this puting into consideration OPT work authorization? Thanks.
