cabayes: Small advise for those aspiring to genuinely study in America. 1. Choose a university in one of the big cities.i.e new york 2. Go for medical related programs. 3. Make sure you hold money wella or get scholarship Goodluck 1. Selecting universities in big cities if you don't have extra funds lying around is just setting up yourself for trouble. Have you considered the cost of living in those cities? You can school in a farm and relocate to a city after graduation. 2. There are lots of good non-medical related programs out there. So you're advising an Engineer for example to into nursing?? 3. I think if anyone doesn't know this by now, they shouldn't even have bothered looking for schools in the first instance |

cuspy: Speaking of the H1B Visa... Is it still running with the lottery system? What recent ammenent has been made to it? Have they passed the bill to increase the minimum annual payment to foreign workers so as to discourage companies from filing for foreign workers? How tough has it gotten in general terms to get a company to sponsor you for the visa in 2017?
To be honest, the American dream for me is to work for about 3 years in the US before returning and necessarily to become a permanent resident.
Cc Everyone Lottery system..yeah. Any amendment in the works would only seek to make it even more difficult to get a visa. A figure that would give you an idea is H1B applications declined by about 37k for the first time in recent years...main reason I advise people to go for job-ready courses if you plan to apply for H1B. The reality doesn't hit you until you're close to graduation. And..PR in 3 years? Very few companies do that. |

skido04: This question depends soely on your determination and love for the the field (IT) , I wasn't all that good in mathematics before studying computer science, but along the way I found out that there's no escaping from it, it's almost 70%maths 30% computer, but believe me, you ll adapt, and before my final yr, all I wanted was for questions with math problem to avoid stress of reading and reading, so to answer you, there's a lot of mathematics, and it ll be hard for you initially, but if you read well, you ll pass, also I want to believe the system there is less stressful than ours. goodluck Do not deceive yourself @bolded. |

skido04: thank you very much. I already did BSc computer science here, I know how sh*t it was , with all the theories/no practical/outdated topics, and lecturers playing God, not ready to try it again, I want better. by affordable, I meant school that are not so costly. I know it ll always be costlier than Nigerian schools. I hope you're not comparing Computer Science in Nigeria with the one here. Personally, I would say you're better off going for MS in Computer Science to get your basics back together and then you can take few courses relating to cyber security in school..just also study for and take some professional exams as well. If you're not a US citizen or Permanent resident, jobs relating to cyber security might be tough to come by. With CS, you have more post-grad opportunities as well. |

Send them an email. TOEFL is waived for lots of schools...although that may not be too helpful if you are applying for a TA position |

Thanks bro Just as a side note...and not necessarily relating to just health insurance ,you don't have to settle for anything just because it's easier that way. Sometimes, especially in this environment, doing a little research, making a few calls can save you lots of money. Worst case, you fallback to your default plan! |

folakemmmi: Please who knows any cheap renter insurance one can use in the US that allows you to add your apartment company as an interested party? my brother needs one, cheapest we have seen so far is $145/annun. Please help Lagosismyhome, imperioux, biikeys The cheapest way to handle this is typically to add it to an existing policy. If you already have auto insurance, just check for any multi-policy discount you'll be able to get by adding it. If you don't have an existing auto policy, just go ahead with the cheapest one around that meets the minimum apartment coverage requirements. Usually the default you find may have more than required coverage. Decreasing the coverage to just the minimum required can get you lower premiums. Use the internet and talk to them as well. |
