It would be nice if the embassy think the way you think. They don't see it like that!
Seems like you know how they think..

There are two sides to this issue. I am sure that you must have stated on your DSFORM that the immigrant petition is ongoing or that someone has filed for you. In that case, this is in the system (in fact, they'll figure it out later (during background check) before they seal the visa on your passport even if you don't state it). During your interview, the consular might noticed and ask questions related to that. It could generate a lot of questions and as sheke01 opined, it will not help your F1 application. It literally says you're trying to obtain the F1 Visa to migrate to the US to be with whoever has been filling for you, and that you'll not come back. Your chance is slim!

However, if you could explain your case very well and the consular who interviews you understand, you may be lucky; the VO may get up during the interview and seek his/her superior's guide on whether or not to refuse you. But I smell refusal on issue like this.

I always advise that if the citizenship petition is ongoing and has taken in a lot of processing time, why not wait? If you can't wait, then know that your F1 Visa may be refused on that ground. It certainly reduces your chance, but NOTE: things happens-- including miraculous F1 visa approval.

Good luck!
An immigrant petition might be a red flag on its own. But if other application materials demonstrate good enough home ties, I wouldn't stress about it. You can have a petition filed on your behalf without you even knowing-it's not like something that requires your signature. If the beneficiary doesn't know genuinely, I think its a valid scenario. That being said, I wouldn't put a pause on my career because of some petition that can take years even up to a decade. I would build a strong profile and go ahead @kodeya

Exactly my reaction when I saw that but then some responses are not worth the stress...Do u know how many years it took me with sleepless nights to finish my thesis?not to mention a Thesis that’s good enough to convince the entire Thesis committee members, then u head to another set of rigorous writing phase..MSc Thesis option is not child’s play here.
Yeah. Add conference papers and journals within a very limited time-frame to that..some things need to be experienced before making assumptions.

Visa approval delayed again Walter Carington by Slim lady VO in window 4. This was my third attempt and I was super confident. I swear.

(I am still in shock though as I can't fathom what happened or where I got it all wrong).

VO: Good morning?
Me: Good morning Ma'am

VO: Passport and I-20 please?

Me: I passed them.

VO: So why do you wanna study?

Me: Currently most Nigerian firms have become IT savvy and are migrating their customer relationship management systems to those that are big data compliant like the hadoop and big data and computing which is even one of the core courses I will be study in my school is relatively new here in Nigeria with a lot of prospects but there is a lack of indigenous professionals. So these firms, because they want to make better business decisions, grow their business, stay relevant in the ever changing business world, they resort to hire expatriates who are professionals from technologically advanced countries like the US to help analyze their data. So this void created by a lack of indigenous professionals has created this burning desire in me to delve into this field and with my background in computer science which has exposed me to curriculum in Maths and Stat like numerical analysis, operations research and so on, a masters in this course will equip me with the technical and analytical skills that I need to flourish as an effective data analyst when I return to Nigeria and will also ensure I fill the gap for a lack of indigenous professionals in the field. It will also help me secure a top paying job in one of the top multinational...

VO cuts me off and says: Oh yeah u mentioned there is a lack of indigenous professionals and this course will help you fit in.

Me: Yes Ma'am.

She continued: Did you apply to any other schools?
Me: Yes. I applied to two other schools asides TAMUK.

VO: OK. So why do you wanna study at TAMUK? Why did you choose them?

Me: There is this on going research on Big Data and Computing carried out by Professor Steven Sedory that I am interested in. This area is new here in Nigeria and has a lot of prospects.

Also, the Curriculm at TAMUK is designed in such a way that it permits flexibility. That's is to say it will allow me choose from electives in other programmes like operations research and numerical analysis that are in line with my career interest.

They also have great faculties and excellent research facilities like the Javelina algebra computer laboratory and the James C. Jernigan library which is one of the largest library in the whole of Texas with over 600,000 volumes of print books, journals and government publications.

Also....

VO: Did you write any entrance exams?
Me: Yes. I wrote a standardised test.

VO: Which of them?

Me: I sat for the GRE.

VO: What were your scores?

Me: I scored 299 overall. 149 in the verbal, 150 in the quantitative and 4.0 in the analytical writing.

VO: I see you have been here previously twice?

Me: Yes Ma'am.

VO: so what do you think has changed in your profile?

Me: I believe I am more confident now.

VO: Okay, your confidence level? (smiles one devilish smile). Picks my passport and scans through to see my travel history.

Me: (maintaining eye contact from beginning to the end) and hoping for good news cos I recently visited South Africa in August.

VO: Who will be sponsoring your studies?

Me: (smiling) My dad.

VO: Well, sorry, you do not qualify at this time. (Dishes out the awful paper).

Me: Shocked. Took my property and left.

Till now, I am yet to factor out what was wrong. My brother waiting for me no even believe am. I have been thinking still and can't figure out what the matter is. Please gurus, what do you think went wrong?

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by biikeys(m): 5:12pm On Aug 29, 2018
Spotlighte:
Exactly, we'd really benefit from this. We need someone who is in the US on an F1 visa to tell us how it is there.

There are so many questions after the admission period we have unanswered.

Is it the beginning rough? How are you managing to cope? Made new friends? How did you get a green card? What's accommodation like over there? How much do you need to survive per month (an estimate of cost of attendance)? How smooth or stressful are the registrations? How difficult is it for those who don't have families or friends in America? How easy is to come back to Nigeria during major holidays and go back to school in the US? Is it possible to travel to other countries while on an F1 visa? And so many others.

It's just like when Nahum777 misplaced his bags in the airport, I am sure many of us learnt from that; or the two nairalanders who talked about being almost swindled by the black guy when they were figuring out how to proceed from the airport. I am sure people who have travelled since then have looked out for the black guy and his gang. It's the same way I have never been to Walter Carrington but I know the famous black woman grin and the white VO who wears Ankara.

I know it won't be easy doing this taking into consideration classes, assistantships and life in general, but it'd be nice if someone who has passed through this thread starts this. smiley smiley
All these questions have been answered at some point in previous parts of this thread. You can use some keywords to search.

I have a question please.. Do we have students with over 40k USD as tuition fee and still get approved for a visa?
Students get approved for visas regardless of their tuition as long as they are able to show they can afford it. Btw what school has $40k as tuition?? Can you really afford it? Is it really worth it the money?

Some questions you need to get answers to first:
- Does your school allow for external insurance providers?
- If they do, do they have to be ACA (Obamacare) compliant?

Just a piece of advice...America is nice, but you would have to face challenging situations once in a while that would stretch you. At the same time, they grow you. Sometimes you see people disappear from this thread after been active for a while..many times dealing with their personal issues. After a while, some come back and some don't. The good thing is, as long as you thread situations the legal way, it would be worth it!

Good morning beloved, pls I want to know if I can write GRE by October and apply for Fall 2019 as someone pointed out that admission for fall 2019 has started?

With a CGPA of 3.72/5 in Electrical Engineering, can I secure a full tuition waiver with good TOEFL result?

Any suggestion of schools I can look into??

Thanks
What a lot of people don't know is that that a school says their deadlines are on one particular date doesn't mean they don't still accept applications under special situations. If you feel you have a decent profile, you can reach out to the graduate coordinator in your desired department directly and find out what is possible. I've seen people successful at this and it's definitely worth giving a try. That being said, funding is different topic entirely.

I'll leave them to doubt... I'm not here to impress anyone. smiley This "I've not heard it before so it has to be a lie" mentality is what's dragging some people back. I still have a few NLers on my BBM, my GC has been my display picture for over a week. It clearly says "United States Permanent Resident".

Anyhow sha. Everybody go dey alright. I'm shocked that someone genuinely believes it's impossible that I got the GC and I'm lying lol. I said it in 2016 and I'll say it again, don't sleep on a bicycle.

I've heard. No proof, I'm lying. Let's move on.
While I'm not interested in the authenticity of your claim, the fact is that there are lots of ways to get your GC in the US. A lot of people have no idea. Talk to experienced immigration lawyers and they'll tell you stuffs.

Those black V.O's cut you short when you're saying "I did an Extensive Research through....." because they have heard it so many times undecided undecided undecided. When I went for Education USA the younger one said it that most students that are interviewed come with same exact reason which she has heard somewhere. She even said she's heard all types of answers but deny students because she feels the reasons are not personal. So if you're asked why this school If you have funding let it out quick, if you have any thing that differs from a normal student's admission let it out first then continue with the rankings or research.
At a time it used to be along the lines of faculty to student ratio, now it's 'extensive research...'. They know. Some of them even come here and can easily pinpoint you with your 'proposed transcripts' smiley Nothing sounds more genuine than actually thinking deeply about why you are applying to a school and then finding a proper and convincing way to communicate this to the VO.
