Successful catfish rearing requires the following basic inputs, among others. It is assumed that rearing facility, no matter the capacity is already on ground. Since aquaculture is raising fishes in water, adequate fresh water supply is expected, which has to be refreshed continuously, daily or every other day.

In changing of the water, it is necessary to have a good drainage for the effluent from the fish pond, without constituting environment nuisance to the neighborhood.
In my farm, I created a small portion of land for cultivation of different types of crops, vegetables ,and fruits. Effluent from the ponds, are released to the land, to enhance the growth of anything planted. I plant and harvest maize throughout the year, even during the dry seasons.

For a successful catfish rearing, the farmer requires, among other things:-
1. Quality fish seed -fingerlings, post fingerlings, juvenile, post juvenile (Jumbo).
2. Quality fish feed, in adequate quantity.
3. Farm/Facility production management techniques.

1. Quality Fish Seed
Depending on the plan and strategy of the farmer, the seed could be fingerlings, post-fingerlings, juvenile, post-juvenile. The advantage of buying at any of the stage, reflects on the rearing duration.
Depending on the feed, and feeding regime adopted, if fingerlings stocked takes 5 months to optimal growth, Jumbo will take about 3 months and 2weeks to optimal growth.

Whenever buying catfish seed, always request for graded one, even if you have to pay more for it. The benefit is there.
However, consider fingerlings producers with integrity so as not to be disappointed in the product.

In this thread, I want to share the reality of the effect of season on Catfish fingerlings production (Catfish Propagation).

Fingerlings production has been one of the challenges hindering the development of the catfish industry in Nigeria. The private sector fingerlings production has increased greatly in recent years. Despite this continuous production increase, the demand for quality catfish fingerlings has also increased significantly, making demand much higher than the supply.

In view of the growing Nigerian population, the demand for table size catfish will continue to increase, hence the demand for catfish fingerlings, and subsequently, the need and demand for high quality male and female broodstocks.

During the Covid 19 lockdown, many backyard catfish farmers sold directly to their neighbors, ran out of stock and immediately the lockdown was relaxed, the demand for fingerlings surged.

There is need for Catfish Farmers who are into fingerlings production to understand the effect of season on the propagation of the African Catfish - Clarias Gariepinus.
I have been into the production of the African Catfish - Clarias Gariepinus, from fingerlings, through grow out / table size, to broodstocks for many years, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and in Lagos, Lagos State. From my experience, irrespective of the quality of broodstock, the quantity of the female eggs varies according to the period of the year.

Although, controlled propagation of Clarias Gariepinus can be carried out throughout the year, i.e. January to December, quality broodstocks are difficult to get.

there is a PDF from coppens online that shows from day one hatchlings to week 8, the daily feed, possible weight etc and it further shows from 10g fish to grow out and it states that at 2 month the fish should be 300 gram, 3 month should be 600 gram, 4 months 1kg, 5 month fish should be 1.5kg and a six month African catfish fed with coppens should be 2kg.

Think of weight and leave length

It's good to note that the stated weight gain, can only be achieved, if the recommended daily feed/fed quantity in the pdf chart is strictly observed, while the quality of the fish seed is also of great importance. In aquaculture, it's usually, No Feed, No Gain.

The reality of coro is staring at the faces of the people, of Kano state, even the elites. The extent of the ineptness, and level of insincerity and insensitivity of the state government is very clear to all now. Abba Kyari's attitude is the climax of his political and welfare recklessness in Aso Rock. Every Nigerian has been made to believe that anyone returning from the high risks countries is to be quarantined for 14days. Abba Kyari recently sent a letter to the National Assembly about some Senators who just returned from a workshop in United Kingdom, and refused to be tested by Port Health workers, to avail themselves for Coronavirus test. Did he present himself for the same test on arrival from his recent foreign trips? Definitely not, hence the contamination of the entire Seat of Nigerian government - Aso Rock.

It's very good it's starting from AR, which has been playing down the issue of COVID-19.
The reality is here in Nigeria-STAY AT HOME, AR is not yet ready for Nigerians. Presently, sufficient Test kits should have been made available throughout the nation, this has not been so. The next 21 days will tell us more.
