2014 Kia Cerato/Forte, CAN Bus Failure.

The first thing I did was to connect the scantool, I realized I couldn't communicate with most of the module on the vehicle, except for the ECM and TCM, and sometimes only the TCM.

This is a classical CAN Bus problem. First, I did some resistance test on the bus to check for an open circuit, short to power or ground. They we're all good.
The next line of action is to probe all the modules connected to the network bus.

In order to probe the network, you need to use a 2ch oscilloscope to measure and see the electrical signals that show the activity of the network. Here is a video showing the network activity when the symptoms are exhibiting themselves.

In order to know all the modules connected to the bus, wiring diagrams have to be consulted to know how all the modules are connected. Then, start by using elimination method to figure out the module causing the problem.

The first module I disconnected was the easiest to get to, which was the engine computer, and it was the culprit, corrupting the network activity.

Immediately after disconnecting it, we were able to get a clean and smooth network activity, and all the modules were able to communicate with each other aside from the engine computer.

The next thing is to change the engine computer.

The vehicle problem is very simple, you ask me how? One of 5volts sensor is grounded internally.... That is what is responsible for incessant blowing of the fuse or drain of the battery. Tell ur mechanical or electrical technical to put test light on the negative post of ur after he must have removed it from the battery terminal.... The test light will glow or light which confirmed that there is a short to ground in the wiring system of the car. He should start to unplug the sensors one after the other until the light goes off . Then he needs to isolate the sensors and wiring for fixing and repeat the test procedure to confirm the issue had been cleared. Better still reach me on my xup

I found and fixed the elevated ground voltages, I forgot to take pictures, I was so into the troubleshooting, I forgot myself.
The vehicle recognizes the door is closed, and the vehicle is on it’s 4 legs now.

It took quite some time and energy to locate these wires, tested them, they had elevated ground voltages, I had to test the system to see if the air suspension is even working, so, I ran a ground wire to these wires, lo and behold, It recognizes the door is now closed.

The door latch switches, are all connected to the Central junction box which is also the body control module according to the wiring diagram, it’s one thing to understand wiring diagram, it’s another thing completely to trace these wires on the vehicle itself

After confirming that we have electrical issues, I fired up my AllData, it’s a paid online database for service information for almost all vehicles, I used it to source wiring diagram for the vehicle’s door lock system.

First thing I did was to check the vehicle with my scanner, and try to figure out in what direction should I troubleshoot, I checked the data stream for door latch switches.

If you’re familiar with Range Rover, if the door is not in closed position, the suspension won’t rise. A lot of parts has been thrown at this vehicle just to make the “door close”, but nothing happened. It was in mess, in bid to solve the problem.

Land Rover LR4 2013, Air Suspension refuse to rise due to vehicle not recognizing the door is locked.

I just checked the fuse , it's in the distribution box on the battery, they are all okay.

Use a multimeter and trace out the circuit one by one according to the diagram and do some voltage drop test at each section of the circuit. It might be a open circuit somewhere

Thanks bro. I have actually sorted the overheating issue. I got a new waterpump, a new thermostat and bmw coolant. Bled the system and monitored the waterpump speed with my scanner.

The issue I haven't resolved are the 2e8e, ibs (intelligent battery sensor) bsd code and 2e98, alternator: missing bsd code.
Battery volt is 12.3v, and 13.81v to 14.0v when engine is running. The engine starts effortlessly. I couldn't delete the faults codes. I'm confused.

Check this fuse out and see if it’s not broken yet

The pump can be tested, when correctly connected to a car battery. And to bleed the cooling system, turn on the heater, leg on the gas pedal for 12 seconds.

If you’ve ensured this you might actually have an issue with the cooling system, probably an hidden leakage somewhere. That only a cooling system pressure tester can expose

They are very great vehicles, Truly Mercedes has easy access to part here in Nigeria and Technicians, that’s the only reason but if you don’t really care The Ultimate driving Machine all the way. Most importantly you should go along with a trusted technician to inspect the vehicle for you. No matter your choice.

Please I need help. My 2007 bmw X5 e70 , 6 cylinder, overheats. That's, I got the drive moderately engine hot message. It started a week after I changed the radiator. The previous radiator has leakage. I scanned the vehicle and I got the 2e8b code (intelligent battery sensor). Could this be the problem? Please help don't ignore.


Modified: I tested the water pump now. It's not working. Could it be the fuse/relay. Where is the water pump fuse or relay?

First the pump does not work on bench by just running power and ground to it, you’ll need a scan tool to turn it on, also after changing the water pump, you need to use scantool to bleed the cooling system after installing. The intelligent battery sensor, I believe it has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Yes your assumption is correct, as a technician who has driven these vehicles countless number of times, if i were to choose from your options, I’ll go for the Mercedes. As first timer go for Japanese cars, the maintenance won’t hurt you, and you’ll get a decent technician faster for Japanese than European vehicles. I can handle any brand though.

Basically same vehicle in terms of Powertrain, Avalon has a wider chassis, cost of maintenance is almost same.

All the listed cars are great, Mercedes has higher maintenance cost and they drive great than the others
