Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko said on Wednesday that he had the divine confidence that he was already marching to victory ahead of the October 20 governorship election in the state. He stated this when he visited his campaign secretariat for the first time, 13 days after his adoption by the Labour Party as its candidate for the election. Mimiko, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said he was ready for the campaign ahead of the election. The development came just as his Campaign Organisation said “a full-fledged electioneering for the governor’s second term will commence soon.” The Organisation’s Director General, who is also the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akin Adaramola, said strategic arrangements had been perfected to ensure victory for the governor. He said, “Since this organisation’s inauguration, we have embarked on a series of activities to ensure smooth campaign and worthwhile election. You don’t just go out and start running all over the place, you need to plan and very soon, we hit the ground running. “We are not following the footsteps of others, Everybody has his own approach. Our approach is to plan so that when we hit the ground, we will be all over the place. Meanwhile, the Ondo State branch of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools on Wednesday adopted Mimiko for a second term in office. They hinged their decision on the Mimiko administration’s landmark achievements in the last three and a half years. The principals adopted Mimiko during its on-going annual conference of the Confederation in the state capital, Akure. The development came just as members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners on Wednesday publicly declared their support for the re-election bid of the governor. The pensioners said his re-election would enable him to complete his laudable and life impacting programmes. http://www.punchng.com/news/my-march-to-victory-has-started-mimiko/ |

I APPRECIATE THE TEAM NIGERIA AT THE OLYMPICS. I take the responsibility of Nigeria's failure at the olympics, this is so because i am a Nigerian. When a Nigerian or group of Nigerians represent the country in any capacity, their success and failure is to be shared by all. If they fail,it is not just the Nigerian govt or athlets that failed,it is Nigeria as a whole. I am usually suprised that the Nigerian people only want to share the success and not the failure, but this is not a virtue of good and patriotic citizens. It is a shame that some people are turning our failure at the olympics to politics, some are using it to ridicule their own country all in the name of fun and insulting the govt, but they are so blind to see that they are making a fool of themselves. When Nigeria took some medals in the last olympics,we condemned them, even now that they took nothing, its still condemnation. Let us appreciate ourselves and contribute to moving forward not backward. What have you contributed? |

NIGER DELTA IS NOT FULL OF CLOWNS The more you see, the better you understand. Few people from NIger Delta region have proven themselves to be a complete clown as far as i am concerned, but most people from the region are indeed reasonable and sincere enough to be called the good ambassador. I came across the speech of a Niger Delta man and i duff my cap for Niger Delta, though the person in question may not be a saint, but on national issue like such,he did justice. Kindly read through the text of his speech from beginning till end and you will appreciate the beauty of the Niger. http://saharareporters.com/report/goodluck-jonathan-and-expectations-nigerians-festus-keyamo?page=3 |

FUNNY ACN POLITICS IN ONDO Some political campaigns may be funny, but this is not just funny but dubious to deceive ondo youths. The acn candidate in ondo state ahead of the october governorship election has been asking the unemployed youths to submit their cv for immidiate employment if he wins the election. This is the worst deceit i have ever seen or heard from a politician. Because he wants to deceive and trick the youths into voting for him,he decided to insult the intelligence of the unemployed youths in the state. If not,why didnt he tell the youths were he would employ them to,how many would he employ and what kind of job would they be doing. |
It is clear that the Action Congress of Nigeria(acn) is keen on capturing Ondo state at all cost, even when its obvious that, known of its 5 state governors is close to Mimiko in term of performance. The acn under the leadership of TINUBU have mobilized all its 5 state governors in southwest both in term of resources and influence to dethrone the IROKO, has the Ondo State Governor MIMIKO is popularly called, but when truth speaks,no lies can emerge. OLUSEGUN MIMIKO emerge as the Ondo State governor under the Labor Party, but the acn leadership wanted him to join them to complete the Southwest quota. They had called him on several occasions but in MIMIKO's word: My resistance to Action Congress of Nigeria’s forced conscription. The disagreement we have is that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, said I should leave the Labor Party and join ACN, and I have insisted that there is no reason I should leave the Labor Party. I have been very fortunate; I have changed party twice. And yet I’ve not lost the people. It is because there were reasons for me to change party. When I was leaving the Alliance for Democracy, it was clear to everybody in Ondo State why I had to leave. When I left, some people left with me. When I was leaving the PDP, it was clear to everybody that I had to leave and look for another platform. I have no reason now to leave Labour Party for ACN. That is the point of disagreement. Today, acn is labeling MIMIKO with all sort of names in its media propaganda and discrediting most of his achievement s,the same candidate acn are calling to join them. If MIMIKO is not a performing governor as the acn want us to believe now, why are they calling him to join the acn as they have done? What a progressive party. The only offense MIMIKO had committed is his insistence on not leaving his Party without reason. MIMIKO said: I have always pointed out that if there are areas where we share same values, we can collaborate. I believe in state police for example. Whatever coloration of party you are in, if you believe in state police, I would be able to collaborate with you for us to be able to actualize it in the course of constitutional amendment. I believe that we must decentralize power to a very large extent in Nigeria. I believe the smaller, the better. I believe that the resources of the federal government can be devolved to the states and local governments for better and effective utilization. And when we talk of economic integration, the point I have always made is absolutely clear. When we talk of integration, what are you talking about? The sub-structure. The sub-structure in the integration is that we are all Yoruba people, we speak the same language. Because of common history and heritage, our worldview and value system are the same. The aspirations of an Ekiti, an Ondo and an Ogun man are the same. They are ready to give everything they have to educate their children, so they can be greater than them. Then we have geography. Because of these common features that integrate us, we can create an economy of scale in some of our economic endeavors that would improve our fortunes. But it’s not the same thing as political integration. And this must be made clear. Even if there is going to be any political aspect of this integration, it must be a recognition of the fact that the people must be given the right to determine who leads them at any point in time. Once we agree on all of these, then we can collaborate. But when people say, willy-nilly, they are going to capture a state, I think that belongs in the realm of the past. We should develop the democratic mindset and let the will of the people prevail. My advice to to ACN is to desist from this deceitful method and embrace progress as MIMIKO represents, because no amount of propaganda can dethrone MIMIKO. Aregbesola was reportedly condemning anyone outside the acn in Yorubaland as not an OMOLUABI, as he said in an event in Ondo state, crisis erupt and the event ended with LABOR PARTY and acn supporters clashing, causing injuries to each other. several clashes have been reported between the two parties since this acn war started against Labor Party, yet the acn would condemn pdp for causing violence, is this what they meant by OMOLUABI? Ever since MIMIKO disagree with acn on the choice of joining them, there have been several clashes between the two parties, who brought the violence remain a question. I thereby call on well meaning Yoruba people to call acn to conduct themselves with manners. Party may differ, each should go for their targets, but not at the expense of destroying the state by causing violence. Discrediting good work and person does not fit a progressive party, which makes me wonder if acn is one. MIMIKO is the symbol of transformation and the best performing governor as far as the southwest region is concerned, and no amount of media propaganda can change that. Acn should learn to engage in real politics of ideas, rather than be telling lies to destroy the good work of a good person. |
The Niger is called Jeliba or Joliba "great river" in Manding; Orimiri or Orimili "great water" in Igbo; Egerew n-Igerewen "river of rivers" in Tuareg; Isa Ber "big river" in Songhay; Kwara in Hausa; and Oya in Yoruba. The origin of the name Niger, which originally applied only to the middle reaches of the river, is uncertain. The likeliest possibility is an alteration, by influence of Latin niger "black", of the Tuareg name egerew n-igerewen, which is used along the middle reaches of the river around Timbuktu.[4][5] As Timbuktu was the southern end of the principal Trans-Saharan trade route to the western Mediterranean, it was the source of most European knowledge of the region. Medieval European maps applied the name Niger to the middle reaches of the river, in modern Mali, but Quorra (Kworra) to the lower reaches in modern Nigeria, as these were not recognized as being the same river. When European colonial powers began to send ships along the West coast of Africa in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Senegal River was often postulated to be seaward end of the Niger. The Niger Delta, pouring into the Atlantic through mangrove swamps and thousands of distributaries along more than a hundred miles, was thought to be no more than coastal wetlands. It was only with the 18th century visits of Mungo Park, who travelled down the Niger River and visited the great Sahelian empires of his day, that Europeans correctly identified the course of the Niger, and extending the name to its entire course. The modern nations of Nigeria and Niger take their names from the river, marking contesting national claims by colonial powers of the "Upper", "Lower" and "Middle" Niger river basin during the Scramble for Africa at the end of the 19th century. |
I was going through the search engine and i saw this post https://www.nairaland.com/873351/know-meaning-nigeria, which was trying to tell the meaning of Nigeria. DO NIGERIANS STILL HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIFE? DO NOT BLAME BOKO HARRAM: BLAME THE INEFFICIENCY OF THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP THEM. The Nigerian Constitution states; Part II, Chapter II, 14, 2, (b) the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government: The issue is that Nigerians are so confused now and our senses have been invaded by the negative effects of tribalism, religion and ethnicity. Do you blame breast cancer for killing you or do you blame yourself for refusing to remove cancer and allowing it to kill you. Is the fact that people took arms against the government a justified excuse for failure? When Biafra declared their sovereignty in a full blown civil war, did they succeed against Nigeria? Does Boko Harram have more ammunition or soldiers than Biafra? Something is wrong some where. LET ME STATE SOME FACTS CLEAR; 1. Those of you who are waiting for Boko harram to stop killing and bombing may have to wait forever, because Boko harram will increase and continue to kill more people by the day, if not checked 2. Everyone in a nation is not going to be law abiding. that was why law was made to punish offenders. people will take to arms to kill, rob and destabilize the government at different times in a nation, that is why there are security agents and security votes in a nation 3. Those who threaten Boko harram with civil war and division of Nigeria should check their senses in a psychiatric hospital because Boko haram are suicide bombers who kill themselves willingly. I wonder what sense it makes for you to threaten to kill a man who is ready to kill himself willingly. 4. Those who threaten to divide Nigeria and spit fire should understand that they are working with Boko harram and are indirect members of Boko harram because they have the same goal with boko harram and are helping to achieve the objectives of Boko harram 5. Dont be deceived, Boko harram is not an international terrorist organization. it is entirely Nigeria and Nigerians. 6. Do you realize that we pay Jonathan as the president to protect us and our properties? 7. Do you realize that a large percentage of our allocation is used to pay the Police, the Army, the navy, etc to protect us? Nigerians do not blame Boko harram, blame the government for not being able to stop boko harram. It is then that we shall all rise to demand that the Government should rise and put a stop to this insurgence. if they cant, then they are inefficient and do not have the right to spend our common resources. Nigerian government has all it takes to stern the tide of any violence that wants to destabilize it. How do you explain the fact that some people just walked to a church in kogi state recently and killed as many worshipers as they want in a church without any resistance from any security agent. Do we have a government? I dont think so, till i see the government play it utmost responsibility of protecting the lives of its citizens. Those who still have their sense intact can think and do the right thing. |
