The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the
Presidency to stop making mockery of governance with premature celebration of imaginary achievements except if the intention is to set up President Muhammadu Buhari for national and international ridicule.

The party said it was embarrassing that the APC and aides of President Buhari decided to invade the minds of Nigerians with propaganda and tissues of lies instead of assisting the President who was inaugurated three weeks ago to settle down, form a government and deliver his campaign promises to Nigerians.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Thursday said “the nation and democrats world over were thoroughly embarrassed by the frivolous list of so-called achievements which has further exposed APC’s lack of capacity and direction as well as the inability to draw a line between propaganda by an opposition party and disseminating of credible information as a party in government”.

“How can a serious government start shouting achievements and make bogus claims on the fight against terrorism when the effort is apparently losing steam as insurgents who had already been pushed to the verge of surrender in the Sambisa forest by the Goodluck Jonathan administration are now surging back into the country under the APC-led government?

“How can a serious government shout achievement based on pledges by foreign interests, a dangerous slide towards neo-colonialism, instead of settling down to galvanize bequeathed resources and potentials that have already placed our great country as one of the fastest emerging economic and political powers in the world?

“How can a serious government shout achievement and attempt to explain away the untidy fact that after three weeks, it has not been able to organize itself even to take basics steps of conventional appointments such as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief of Staff to the President and advisers in key sectors of the economy.

We ask, is the APC celebrating that fact that due to its naivety and delays, key sectors of our nation’s economy are dangerously drifting with a perilous crippling of foreign and domestic investments including activities in the money and capital market sectors?

“Our promise has been to engage in credible opposition and provide alternatives and options to the policies and programmes of the APC-led Federal Government in the general interest of the nation, but alas, in less than one month, even with the stability bequeathed by the Jonathan administration, we have only witnessed inexcusable confusion and administrative naivety in the handling of important issues as seen in their poor outing at the inauguration of the National Assembly, unnecessary delays in the setting up of structure for the executive arm and the worrisome inability to urgently provide a national economic direction, among others.

“This is a party and government that promised Nigerians that they will hit the ground running once elected into office but what we have seen so far is a government and party that hit the ground and remained on the same spot for sheer inexperience and unpreparedness for governance.

“We therefore urge the APC to stop embarrassing the nation with premature and unsubstantiated celebration of imaginary achievements especially if they ever want to be credible and responsible people, as sincerity and not propaganda remains the hallmark of trustworthy administration.

"The APC should not by any means attempt to use its flimsy list to divert attention from its numerous campaign promises for which the people are holding them accountable.

“We wish to inform the APC that the Nigerians will not take anything short of the commencement of the payment of monthly N5, 000 each to 25 million poor citizens beginning from the end of this month; ending of insurgency by the end of July as promised by President Buhari in his April 2, 2015 CNN interview; payment of monthly allowance to discharged but unemployed Youth Corps members, free meals to school children and bringing the naira to the same value with the dollar; among other bogus promises upon which they gained access to power.

“Finally, we advise the Presidential spokespersons to allow Nigerians to judge the President as events and time will prove exactly the taste of the old wine”, the PDP said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has admitted that his age would limit his performance as the President of the country.
Buhari, who was a military governor at 33 and Head of State at the age of 40, said he would have loved being a President when he was at a younger age . He will be 73 on December 17, 2015.

The President spoke with Nigerians resident in South Africa on Monday after taking part in the 25th assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Johannesburg.

He said, “I wish I became Head of State when I was a governor, just a few years as a young man. Now at 72, there is a limit to what I can do.”

Despite his advancement in age however, Buhari gave assurance that his administration would make a difference.

Buhari explained that what brought him to his current position was his love for the country.

He recalled that he was in the war front for 30 months during the civil war, adding that like any other Nigerian, he lost relatives and loyal people to the war.

Buhari said considering the fact that two million Nigerians died during the war, nobody should come forward to talk about a breakup of the country.

He stressed that Nigeria would remain one country since God had given him another opportunity to reorganise its affairs.

The President promised that his administration would “kill” corruption before it wrecks the nation.

He added that the All Progressives Congress government which he leads was determined to secure the country and improve its economy.

“Our government is determined to secure the country, manage the economy, create employment and fight corruption. Some articulate writers have said if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. This APC administration intends to kill corruption in Nigeria. We will do our best, I assure you,” Buhari stated.

The President said he was at a time afraid that Nigeria might become a nation like Somalia which “self-centered elite” had succeeded in turning to a war zone in the last 20 years.

He said Nigerians were more vulnerable because the country has many nationalities who were merged in 1914 in spite of their religious and cultural differences.

Buhari stated that only crazy people whom, according to him, are not in short supply, would talk of dividing the country.

He said there was no big deal in the claims by those who accused him of jailing them because he was also jailed for over three years.

“After being in the military for 25 years, and getting to the highest rank and becoming Head of State and under unusual circumstances, as Head of State, I went straight to detention for three-and-a-half years. So, those who accuse me of locking them up, I too have been locked up; so what?” he declared.

The President said he would not have believed if he had been told during his days in the military that he would one day join partisan politics.

He explained that he joined partisan politics with a view to meeting the needs of the people.

Buhari said, “Why did I join partisan politics in spite of that? When I went home people knew that I have no money and I thought they will leave me alone, but they didn’t.

“They were coming to me asking me to do this and do that. I found out that the only way I could do it is by joining partisan politics.

“And maybe if I speak even if I’m not a member at any level, people will listen to me.

“But then I joined the opposition (the All Peoples Party). I didn’t want any political office at first, if I wanted, I would have joined the PDP(Peoples Democratic Party) then and maybe I would have got to where I am much earlier. But then, I wanted to go with the opposition.

“The second thing that finally convinced me to join partisan politics was what happened in the Soviet Union. You know the Soviet Union was an empire in the 20th century that collapsed without a shot being fired.

“Everybody went home, there was confusion. Now, there are 18 countries out of the old Soviet Union.”

Buhari said he believed that the best form of governance was democracy, but elections must be free and fair.

That, he said, was why he was in trouble and he had to move from the APP to the ANPP(All Nigerian Peoples Party) to CPC(Congress for Progressive Change) and eventually to the APC.

Buhari explained that he contested his defeats in 2003, 2007 and 2011 up to the Supreme Court because of his belief that elections must be free and fair.

He said, “In all those cases from the High Court to the Supreme Court, we sent people to the field, they found out why the elections were not fair.

“They came to the court and gave evidence but in the end, they will say ‘oh well, there were some flaws in the elections but the PDP has won.

“But at last, the PDP has lost.’’

While explaining that he had occupied different positions like military governor of the North Eastern State, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Head of State and Chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, he stated people only remember his days at the PTF because he equipped hospitals and schools.

The President said, “I bought bed sheets and X-ray machines for hospital and buses for the schools.

“They (Nigerians) remember me more as chairman of the PTF than as a former Head of State, than a governor or a Minister of Petroleum.

“In spite of the fact that it was during my time that I signed the contract for the Warri Refinery, Kaduna Refinery, more than 3,500 pipelines and more than 20 depots.

“We got the tankers off the roads; we saved lives; we saved fuel and we saved the roads.

“But from 1999 till date, the PDP messed them up. That is why Nigerians decided to vote me.”

Buhari said despite the money politics being played in Nigeria, his victories during APC’s primary and the March 28 presidential elections had proved that Nigerians knew what they wanted .

He said some rejected inducement while some collected and still did exactly what they wanted to do when there was time to vote.

Buhari regretted that some “strong Nigerians” were responsible for the destruction of strong institutions in the country.

He said, “We have a system in Nigeria. No matter what you say about the British colonialists, they built institutions for us, unfortunately we have destroyed those institutions.

“When (Barack) Obama came to Africa, he went to Ghana; he refused to come to Nigeria. And he said Africa or developing countries should have strong institutions instead of strong leaders.

“If he was in Nigeria, he would have known that it was strong Nigerians that destroyed the strong institutions. And paradoxically, maybe another strong Nigerian will come and revive the institutions and make them strong again.”

APC Governors met last night to meet over the salary crisis in some states. At the meeting, the governors called on the Federal government to a setup a bailout plan for the states that have not been able to pay civil servants their salaries for many months. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu
Kwankwaso against incendiary utterances capable of destabilizing the National Assembly and rubbishing the prevailing political tranquility in the country. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said the party was particularly shocked by the hate statement from Senator Kwankwaso wherein he used offensive language on the PDP and its members in the National Assembly.

The party said it was “taken aback by the venom and bitterness in the statement especially coming from a former governor, an elected senator, a highly respected former member of the PDP, who also benefitted hugely from the party as minister and two-time state governor.

The PDP said it would have wished not to join issues with politicians who grew their political profile in the party no matter where they are at the moment, but regretted that “Senator Kwankwaso went too far in declaring the party dead just because he is aggrieved that the Senate Presidency did not go his way.”

It said it was “indecorous, mischievous and misleading for anybody to declare a party with an enviable history as the PDP, with 14 state governors, 47 Senators and hundreds of members in the House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly dead.”

"Where was Senator Kwankwaso when a party he claimed was dead defeated his choice candidate in the Senate? Was it a dead party that was able to do what according to Kwankwaso, no other party could do in the 16 years of PDP control of the National Assembly?

“Indeed, we found it very baffling that such unguarded statement came from a person who contested for the high office of the president of Nigeria.

Statements from such personalities should be decorous, statesmanly and focused on the national interest instead of promoting acrimony and division in the polity. This unfortunate outburst is well below Senator Kwankwaso’s character and status and we urge him to desist from such”, the PDP said.

The party underlined that Senator Kwankwaso and other APC leaders should rather be grateful to PDP senators for being disciplined and not using their preponderance at the inauguration to take the entire leadership of the Senate following the opening created by the APC leaders in convening a meeting of senators-elect at the same time fixed for the election of the leaders of the National Assembly.

Furthermore, the PDP dismissed as frivolous, Senator Kwakwaso's unfounded and unsubstantiated claim that PDP's agenda's is to irritate President Muhammadu Buhari and put hurdle before him. It recalled that it had repeatedly assured that it would help the government by providing robust and constructive opposition that would help his government unlike APC's hate opposition, adding that such baseless complains would not stop Nigerians from holding the APC-led federal government responsible on its campaign promises.

The party also described as laughable, Senator Kwankwaso's claims that under President Buhari, everything is working well in the country and wondered why he failed to give the credit for the stability in the nation to whom it is due, immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan whose conceding of power even amidst electoral irregularities brought the conducive atmosphere the nation is enjoying today.

It noted with delight the statesmanly stance of President Buhari who at the just concluded African Union (AU) summit in South Africa eulogised former President Jonathan for taking the unique action that brought calm to the country.

On Kwakwaso's claim of giving 1.9 million votes from his state and over 750,000 votes from his senatorial zone to Buhari and APC, the PDP said it does not want to join issues with him on that because of its decision to toe the path of peace except to note the electoral ridicule of 1.9 million voters, with no single void vote, a record for the Guinness Book.

The PDP therefore advised Senator Kwankwaso and others like him who may still be aggrieved about the turn of events at the National Assembly to see it as democracy in action and note that the two major religions in the country hold that only God gives power and that if He did not destine that Senators Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, would emerge President and Deputy President of the 8th Senate respectively, it would not have happened.

President Buhari says those who have repeatedly accused him of locking them up while he was Head of State should remember that he was also locked up after he was removed as Head of State in 1985. Speaking to the Nigerian community yesterday in South Africa, Buhari said;

"This is my first time of attending these types of meetings (AU) and they go on and on until about 1 in the morning. And then you are supposed to start in the morning again. Everybody is repeating what the other speaker has said instead of to keep their mouth shut. Anyways, it is a great experience. I have listened to the address paraphrased by the counsel-general, I’m pleased that wherever Nigerians are whether in South Africa or Saudi Arabia or Europe or Alaska for that matter, you’ll make an impact both positive and negative.
There is no way 160 million people or more cannot make impact wherever they are. We have so many cultures and nationalities. At a point I was very frightened. I don’t know how many of you kept records. I was afraid Nigeria might be like Somalia. The Somalis are the same people; they are all Muslims but because the elites are self-centered, selfish, they have succeeded to make Somalia a war country for the last 20 years. For that reason, I said Nigerians are much more vulnerable, we have so many nationalities no matter how you look at it, Hausa-Fulanis, Kanuris, Ishekiris, Yorubas, Igbos.

We are actually people of different cultures but since 1914, we have merged in spite of religion and culture, married across, produce children and only crazy people can think of balkanising Nigeria. But we are not short of crazy people that is the frightening part of it. President Buhari today rejected the proposed rotation of the Commander of the Multi National Joint Task Force, a team of military officers drawn from Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria with the main objective of fighting against Boko Haram in the region. While addressing heads of government from these countries in Abuja this morning, Buhari said the rotation of the head of the commander of the MNJTF will undermine the capacity the military capacity to sustain the push against the insurgents.

He advised that Maj.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (Nigerian), who is currently heading the team should be allowed to remain as the commander for the period of the war

"While I agree that this is a joint operation with shared responsibilities, I am, however, of the opinion that military operations that are subjected to rapid turnover of command and control structures, six months duration, as it is being proposed in the documents before us, do not augur well for effectiveness and efficiency. Such a process will undermine, even if it not intended, the military capacity to sustain the push against the insurgents, who also have the uncanny ability to adapt and rejig their operational strategies. I am inclined, on account of the above, to suggest for your excellencies’ consideration that Nigeria retains the position of the Force Commander of the MNJTF for the period of the war effort. This command will be to the effectiveness of military strategy, since Nigeria will be providing the bulk of the troops and the main theater of the war is on Nigerian soil.” he said

He promised to redeem Nigeria's pledge of $100m for the re-launch of the Multinational Joint Task Force which will be based in the Chadian capital, N'Djamena.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to president Buhari, Shehu Garba released a statement yesterday describing as false, reports being circulated online that the reason Nigeria's new president hasn't relocated to Aso Villa was because he was advised by a Senegalese spiritualist not to do so for now. In the statement, Shehu said the report was embarrassing to say the least. He said the president is a Muslim who believes his fate belongs to God.

"The so-called spiritual cleansing of the Aso Rock Villa by Senegalese marabouts before President Buhari moves into the villa is the figment of the imagination of rumour mongers." He said

Shehu said renovation works at the villa was mostly the reason pres. Buhari hasn't moved to the Villa.

President Buhari failed to show up at the meeting the national leaders of the APC called for with the hope of resolving all the issues regarding the choice of candidates to field for the National Assembly leadership election which has already taken place. According to reports, President Buhari was meant to
have presided over the meeting which was to hold at the International Conference Center by 9am but he did not show up.

Most of the Senators who were against Senator Bukola's candidacy as Senate president were waiting at the venue of the meeting with the president when the election at the Senate took place.

Senator Bola Tinubu, APC National Publicity Secretary Lai Mohammed and some APC Governors awaited the arrival of President Buhari who never showed up.

A Batch C corp member popularly known as Hope was stabbed to death in his room in Aboh Mbise local government of Imo state last Saturday June 6th. His door was broken into while he slept and was attacked. Eyewitnesses say he was stabbed to death by an indigene. The police is currently investigating the case but no arrest has been made so far. Controversial footballer Emmanuel Adebayor was swamped by fans after he returned to his home country of Togo recently to deal with family issues. The Tottenham striker was granted permission on compassionate ground by his club to return home to resolves family issues which has plagued him for a while now. He was given a hero's welcome by villagers in Aneho, Togo.
