backbone503: Even China dey owe US. Hate it or love it, believe it or not, US still remains the greatest. The world without US would have been a very different and dangerous place. Look at China, look at Russia, then look at the US. In whose hands do you think the world is safer in? Despite its shortcomings, the world is safer with America as leader. I don't want any authoritarian country to displace America. |

shortgun: What village do you all crawl out from for fuks sake. DJ's are not always used during celebrations, or for playing loud music who will do the lighting? Who will provide generator? Who will bring microphones and speakers for the gathering. Better shut it you don't have any sensible contribution to this thread You want to mourn your deceased northern friend the way Southerners mourn their deceased. It doesn't work that way. Listen to his family and do what they want. |
Events › Re: My Dead Friend's Funeral Is Causing Problems by BinamRex: 3:19pm On Apr 09, 2024 |
shortgun: Tragically we lost a close friend to the cold hands of death who passed away in a ghastly motor accident.
He was in his late thirties to early forties, unmarried, no child, and a Christian from the North west.
In solidarity, we his friends, proposed to hold a formal wake keep for him at his Abuja residence and promptly began the preparation process. This included securing the services of a DJ and arranging refreshments for the gathering.
Certain members of his family objected to the idea of the wake keep, contending that it was inappropriate for us to engage in partying and funfair following the untimely passing of their loved one. They insisted we limit the gathering to just a public address system and a choir to sing, nothing more.
Some of our friends are threatening to hands-off and withdraw their involvement from everything about the funeral including not attending the burial and allow the family members do whatever that pleases them. Others are of the opinion that we should ignore the family members and go ahead with our plans since we are going to be paying respect to our late friend and not members of his family.
What do you guys think? I sincerely hope you read this. I am speaking from my perspective as a Northern Christian: burial is a solemn occasion. We do not buy drinks and throw parties to mourn our dead as doing so would be misconstrued as rejoicing that the deceased is no more. Mourners living close to the bereaved are expected (not compulsory) to bring food so that other mourners who came from afar would have something to eat. He is your friend but you should also respect the wishes of his family and not throw a party. That would be insensitive. I believe you are a southerner. I had a culture shock when I moved to the south and saw how people mourn their dead. Their make banners and throw parties. They eat, drink beer and get drunk. I found and still find this unacceptable. You want to throw a party for someone who died untimely and you are upset because his family doesn't agree that it is the right thing to do. Please, be reasonable! |

Sonnobax15:

Good evening my fellow Nairalanders and compliments of the season....
So I recently moved into a new neighborhood last December, and I must really confess that this environment is so so cool, like everyone's living peacefully and amicably with one another..... Personally, I'm the calm kind of a guy.....An introvert,to the extent that if I'm not on the road via hustling, then I must be definitely be indoors, doing my stuffs online....
Now,the problem here is that my new neighbors have been secretly referring to me as a pastor due to my kind of lifestyle . What really baffled me was yesterday when a man whom I usually take to the park every Wednesday morning asked me if I've any affiliation with any Church........I said NO but I was really curious to know what was the reason behind that question...It was then he told me that it was my neighbor who's living in the flat close to my apartment was the one who told him I'm a pastor.
So,I just want to know,if anyone has ever had a similar experience in the past......That the moment people notice you're a calm and gentle person, they immediately tag you as a pastor or a religious personnel? Even without asking you first? My brother, it happens to me a lot. And the funny thing is that I'm not even religious. I can't even bring girls home anymore because my neighbours will be disappointed that pastor is womanizing. Mehn, I am tired. |

Family › Re: AWidow That Didn't Visit Me When I Gave Birth Expects Christmas Money From Me by BinamRex: 12:34pm On Dec 29, 2023 |
Ememmmi: I have an uncle that passed on early last year. My daddy told me he's my "uncle" but a distant relation because I don't know him in the village. We only met in lagos here so I think we are related but not close relation. Before he died, I use to send money to him especially during covid. At times he will ask and atimes I will send without him asking me. So when he passed on early last year, I was still sending the little amount I can afford to his wife. Its been 4 months I gave birth and she did not even come to see me. Her house to my house is about 500 transport fare to and fro. She knows there's no how she will come to my house and I won't give her cash even if at all she don't have transport fare.
She called me 2 days ago asking of Christmas money. I told her I will send it but inside me I am not happy honestly. People came from very far distance to visit me when I gave birth but this woman didn't even show concern. Anytime she call me will always be to ask of money. She said all her husband relative has abandoned her. It is not like I don't have money to give her but her attitude is bad. She has only one daughter which she claims she's in university. I don't know how true is that Do you think I should overlook her character and give her the money Is she aware that you have had a baby? If she is aware, tell her how displeased you are that she didn't visit you. |

JASONjnr: Me I don't really know what the problem is between Christians and Muslims.
I see Old testament as more of islamic book because lots of it's scriptures are related to islamic scriptures.
Like the story of Moses and Jonah. And many more. Also the old testament talked about going to your place of worship without your shoes and that's what Islam is practicing. It's also warn against women being in charge of any organisation. Even covering of a woman's head. Most Christian movies scripting the moses era would have women cover their heads completely. Islam uses hijab as well.
The only problem I see is Christians referring to Jesus as God.
Aside this, I don't really see any difference between these two religion. 😂😂😂 you be mumu. Christianity was in existence 500 years before Islam. The stories you see in the Quran about Moses, Abraham, etc. were copied from the Bible. How can a religion that copied from another be the true religion? |

anyilalaz: My brother!!! Do you know why I called you that? Some of us had passed that route before. No need to castigate you because going through the thread you chop enough bashing.
Nevertheless, marrying a woman process is unending open process. From my sojourn during my time. Before I visited my in-laws for the first time, I asked they daughter if both parents take alcoholic drinks and what they like. Going to see them I bought a bottle of original Seaman Schnapps, a bottle of cream Bailey, a bottle of eve wine, some kola, 6yards of wrapper that I made sure her daughter bought for me.
With all items, I went to see my in-law, while presenting what I brought, kola first, the Schannap and Bailey for papa, eve and wrapper for mama, that settled everything as we begin to discuss.
They presented egusi and fufu meal, my friend and I ate. While going, they gave us coconut, peas and a lobe from one of the kola nut. I collected everything, though I don't eat kola.
Coming home to your case, first apologies to your wife, then your in laws. When next you are going with your family to see your in laws, upgrade your humble gift items. It's cultural. Whatever they give collect and appreciate them. A day after you departed from them also call back for welcoming you and your family, double thank them for the gift again.
My fellow men were don marry I hope I no talk bad. My opinion though. I never marry, but you talk well. Very well. |
