Good post Domestic violence is not tolerated by no one I despise it because to me its not an affirmation of manhood I support that cause Ditto Harassment in the workplace but are you aware some women welcome this in return for favors and advancement even when they are educated? No one likes to be discriminated against on the basis of skin, race or gender and this i believe is wrong If you have read my posts with an open mind, you will see this is so If u want to go into the earth is flat story, that was the basis of all hypotthesis and it was the job of Galileo and Copernicus to disprove I have thrown the gauntlet to you.. show me a superior argument how women leading are better considering the only known civilisation to be populated by women are the Amazons in Greek Mythology.. Great points that women are very intelligent but i ask you fellis or whichever female can answer where have you been discriminated against PERSONALLY In your household you have the same opportunities your brothers had In your office, where is the discrimination Do you know that in my office,it is a policy to recruit 30 - 40& of new intakes as female.. they may not even ne the best but they have to come in as some form of affirmative action Leadership roles are bestowed on the best In the UK Mensch was identified as a high riser in the Tory party but she opted for a reality lifestyle so is that one discrimination A woman who has the b@lls will rise to the top.. so dont tell me leadership is bestowed upon men actually Okonjo, Madeliene Albright, Diezani(well... grudgingly), Ezekewzili,- all have some form of power The prime minister of Australia is a woman The reason why i said you guys took things personal was statements made by cfours calling my comments silly and u saying my answers were not meaningful. escalating with an equvalent jibe will lead to more insults hence i decided to ignore If my comments are wrong or illogical, point them out to correct not to deride because im male Also good to know things are changing... it will take time I agree with your conclusion fellis: Feminist movements are aimed at providing better understanding and acceptance for the concept of gender equality and defending equal political, economic and social rights for women. Feminism seeks to protect women from domestic violence, sexxual harassment and assault and to protect them against different forms of sexxual gender discrimination. |
Some facts ahead.. @OptaJose: 3 - Atlético de Madrid have won all Cup's finals played against Real Madrid in Santiago Bernabeu (3). Favourite. |
ogugua88: Vanneni has moved into the Verified column! Best of luck!this vanneni looks hawt...... where is her team |
fellis: Can you elaborate on this point please? Thank youI asked what is the thrust of feminism and cfour says its now abortion? Choice is enshrined since Roe v Wade but now its become a political thing and was an issue in the last us presidential election Its a given subject to certain considerations and abortion is accepted in the West generally So i ask you, what does feminism realy mean,,, what are its objectives As an analyst there is sth called Analogic analysis where you start with the known and extrapolate, so if for the last 5000 years, men have been head of famiiles it stands to reason that they will be at the present time and people raised by the same people will be used If you are not satisified with that, give me a superior logic but dont say i dont have meaningful answers You guys take things too personal////// I ask has feminism solved the innate struggle between genders.. in the same west that you have divorce settlements yet people still engage in serial marriages as an avenue to enrich themselves People still abuse their women and the women keep quiet Go figure... |
Agbgift: Pls u guys should give us specific date of d contest. Dnt want to miss d show. I want to vote. And pls no body should chance my sit here @d viewing center.i nominate this post agbgift https://www.nairaland.com/agbgift |
How old was Mary when she had Jesus? The Virgin Mary was most likely a teen mom, but that wasn’t taboo back then. Life expectancy was 45 to 50 years, and girls were married off as soon as they hit puberty. Some accounts say that Mary, a Jewish woman from Nazareth, may have been as young as 12. But the web site biblelessons4kidz.com puts her age at 14 or 15. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/old-mary-jesus-answers-burning-christmas-questions-article-1.996294#ixzz2TRR9jh3b Mary was a young girl, probably only about 12 or 13 years old when the angel Gabriel came to her. She had recently become engaged to a carpenter named Joseph. Mary was an ordinary Jewish girl, looking forward to marriage. Suddenly her life would forever be changed. http://christianity.about.com/od/newtestamentpeople/p/marymotherjesus.htm --- this will be seen as child abuse in today's world. but was ok 2000 yrs ago when Jesus was born. 12 yr old getting married to a grown man. when u say wives should be submissive according to d bible. in reality, the bible is most likely talking about girls being submissive to men old enough to be their dads probably. i'm sure u would want ur daughter to be submissive to you. lol and you would be responsible for being a loving father to ur daughter in return.
Hmmm.. Noted. So are you saying all maidens in Biblical times were minors (less than 16) in todays parlance |
wow... just saw your post Long post i will try and take each point one by one Potrayal of women as s.ex objects in music videos did not start today with rap music. women have always been part of entertainment for pleasure (Salome dancing for King Herod, geishas and in festival dances here in Africa) - me i love my beats - dont ban rap/hip hop though i agree the gratification is too much personally i dont watch videos Sanctity may have been the wrong word. Let me rephrase.. Do you think marriage between a man and a woman is still relevant in today's society That point on roles and evolution makes sense. But in a union there must be a head - what is your thought on that I dont subscribe abortions personally but agree that situations necessiate it - assault, teen pregs etc Every person has a right to do with their body If a man who abandons his seed is not vilified, why shd a woman who aborts be? I know her and the issue is not that women dont want to get to the top, family concerns affect them The former CEO of HP was a woman and there is a lady who heads Pepsico.. so dont say there are no opportunities for women The issue is prioritisation of career vs family What I meant here is a woman having multiple se.xual partners without recourse - freedom which is perceived as one of the offshoots of the feminist movement However checking the defintion it has to do with marrying into higher social levels - so scratch the hypergamy thing Ok.. i will leave those two You made reference to a higher earning woman in a relationship shoudl take the bulls by the horn right? Social justice is more than feminism. dont get it mixed up I believe in all this and in my working life so far companies give mat leave and dont punish women they even allow them one hour off daily toll the baby is nine months (6 months flexitime) That other coys in naija dont do this is because of the impunity here If a coy does not even pay a living wahe, why the eff shd they have family friendly policies if my points sound stewpid to you.. sorry o
personally what do you stand for: a lot of things. ex portrayal of women in d media is something that irks me. especially black american entertainment culture. women are portrayed in very negative light. If I had my way, I would ban rap music. it's mostly misogynistic disgusting filth with lyrics filled with all kinds of ugly names and abuses toward women. there r other issues too of course. LOL Do you belive in sanctity of marriage: How do u mean? ex. In America where I live, marriage is being re-defined, gay couples now have the right to get married in many states. this is not a feminist issue but a GLBT (gay-lesbian-bisexual-trans) issue. Marriage (with the wedding, ring, vows etc) is just a social contract created by society for social purposes. each marriage is different. in some parts of the US, some still practice polygamy. there are tons and tons of parters who cheat on their spouse. so when u say sanctity of marriage, be specific about what u mean and how it relates to feminism. Do you believe in equal rights for male and female yes. Do you belive males and females have seprate roles to play and are complementary not competitive against each other of course males and females are complimentary. but in terms of roles, that is always influx. I think women can define the role they want to play in society. Men have always been d ones to decide the roles. but gender roles is subjective. ex depending on d culture, men and women play different roles. so of course naturally roles might form along gender lines but I think women have d right to be able to influence the decision about their roles. ex. women can be professionals today. but in d past, their role was only in d home and kitchen. I don't know what will happen in d future but ideally women should be able to participate equally as men in influencing the decisions that cause these roles to change Focus on the issue - what is the thrust of feminism what do you hope to achieve and how can this be useful for less privileged people there is no such thing as "thrust of feminism" besides the idea of equal rights for men and women. there are just so many issues depending on what's going on in society at the moment. right now in America, the popular political issue concerning women is a right to safe abortion. US govt is planning to make it illegal for women to have abortions. of course I believe that women should have the right to safe abortions. Not crying for liberties which you already enjoy by being educated or working. Yes. I'm educated and working. but that doesn't mean that it ends there. I recognizing equal right for men and women in general. ex, in most work places, there are more men at the top than women. this is another issue for feminism. there needs to be more female CEOs and leaders than we currently have. more female presidents etc. google Sheryl sandberg. this is the issue she focuses on as an activist. She tries to empower women to aim higher. she is the current chief operating officer of Facebook. If your goal is hypergamy let's know it explain ur definition of hypergamy. I believe that women and men have to contribute their fair share to the family. if a woman is shouldering majority of the domestic responsibilities, then she shouldn't have to shoulder majority of the financial responsibilities and vice versa. men and women should be able to contribute in d home as they do in work places. if that's what u call hypergamy, so be it. If your goal is single parenting/lezbian coupling and adopt a child let's know it lol. your questions are starting to become ridiculous. I will not even waste my time on this question. I'm not gay. not all feminists are gay. not all gays are feminist. If your advocacy is for divorce once a woman outearns her man then your ideology is dodgy again, this is a stupid statement. How does feminism help social justice feminism is social justice. Do u agree that women should have equal right to education? do u agree that women should be able to have maternity leave and come back to work rather than being fired for being pregnant? do you agree that women should be able to vote? do you agree that women should be able to leave a physically abusive marriage? do you agree that there should be more female leaders in d world? do you agree that women live in more poverty than men? do you believe that women's clothing shouldn't be dictated by d government (any more than men's clothing is)? (referring to the eras of of govt ban on women wearing mini skirt etc) and of course look at muslim countries for more xtreme cases. do you agree... I could go on and on.. these are issues women have either fought for and achieved(whether they use feminist label or not) or they are currently working on. to me, it's all part of social justice. but then again, i'm female. social justice for blacks may not count as social justice to whites. social justice for women may be seen as not so to males, social justice for the working poor may be looked down upon by rich. social justice for the imprisoned (yes people in prison have rights too) may sound excessive for some etc. so depends on what lenses ur looking through and which side you're on.
|

fellis: How has the issue of gender equality become a monster in the west?gender equality is never a monster.. its when the basic tenets of social justice are met and people just cause more issues for political gains. I think u shd read my posts devoid of any perception I listed out major issues that affect women and u label me as having superiority over women,, naahhh i believe we are seperate but equal and have our roles. However in a relationship, there must be a head Its typically the male. Daz all In the same west, has gender equality tamed the gender wars... naahhhh See my post below again requoted biolabee: Excellent.. Thanks ... |
I have noticed that we Nigerians seem stuck in this traditional belief that the man is solely responsibility to provide for the home financially. While i do understand that this belief is strongly rooted in our traditional family value system in this part of the world, i have however noticed that education and civilisation has enabled us drop a lot from our traditional family system which we perceive to be either obnoxious or unfair. Let me highlight a few examples here. In the past a man never cooks, it used to be a taboo for a man's hand to be seen in his wifes pot but today men cook for the home as well as the women. In the past a man does no home chores today it is also acceptable that both do them. In the past when travelling, it is the woman that carries on her head the loads and bags for the family, today this has shifted to the man beacause they are physically stronger. Men alone go to work to earn money also in the past while the woman stays home and caters for the family but today it is generally acceptable that a true man is the one that not only allows his wife to work but supports her financial and other dreams. Finally even while performing the act the man alone use to stay on top but these days i need not describe the scene. So my question comes, why is it that our society has accepted so much of the practices from the foreign value systems but seems adamant on this one? Why this cherry picking? Could it be out of ignorance or could it just be that the woman gender are still so week in our society that they need this protection. From my last count there are more women going to school these days than the men and also it has become somewhat easier for women to gain employment after school than it is for the men. Today's life opportunities are open to all irrespective of gender. While it is possible that most men who still strongly belive in this value system are those who remain stuck in their thinking that it is solely a woman's responsibility to cook, wash nanny the kids and lick their nyashes on all issues, it is also possible that most women in this class are those who lack the understanding that the essence of working wether for the man or the woman is to carter for the family. As for me, i am a firm believer of equality of all humans. I will not raise my girl child in this generation to grow up believing that there is a man out there who will carter for her needs either in or out of marriage. If the man earns let him provide, if the woman earns let her provide and if both earns let them both provide in love, with understanding and give the family a living standard that is commensurate with the combined earning power of both of them. Let me state categorically that any woman who provides financially either by supporting her husband or by leading in the role, while believing in her head that she is carrying out a role meant for the man, will never truly respect the man nor will she ever be able to provide in love.
|

bellong: This is where we need Wenger to be hard on those guys. His softness make them complacent everytime. I love the captaincy of Arteta.. Seems the armband threw Vermaleen off point leading to his numerous errors that cost us valuable games.Wenger does not like assertive players. |
fellis: Lol why does the thought make you sad? Our different genders are meant to compliment each other, not to establish superiority or inferiority of one over the other. It's poignant considering when the basic and important things are done It will have become a monster that will be uncontrollable as we see in the West. All causes become monsters eventually The issues to me are Education and empowerment for women Fairness in adverse marital situations - widows, orphans etc Protection from spousal abuse and ra.pe And other 'basic' rights It always grows... It always grows |
Hmmm I appreciate your fierceness for the cause though In 40 years time I'm sure this line of thought will be prevalent ![]() fellis: If you are supposed to take an on-the-spot decision that affects your family in the absense of your spouse then you can go ahead and do that as long as you have the benefit of your family in mind when making such decisions. Same goes for your wife, she can also decide for the family in your absense without your ratification. |
bellong: The reason why media is always on Arsenal is because the club is still very relevant. Else, their addiction with the club. There are other clubs in the league and in Europe spending astronomically higher than Arsenal yet never attained the club's status. Hope they will all be silenced next season as no major player is leaving this summer unlike before that they had to rebuild around another player.True... for me the fact is that only one club can win I just want arsenal to be competitive Losing to Blackburn in the FA Cup and Bradford in Carling is unforgiveable |
