Politics / Re: PDP Governors Advocate State Police, Donate N100m To Assist Plateau Victims by bjdon: 2:26pm On Feb 02
nairalanda1:
State police cannot work in NIgeria.

Now, before you start calling me anti-progress, and anti-People, and fulani lackey, I believe that every state should have a police force. But in NIgeria, we got two issues

1.Most of the states do not have the funding to fund a properly equipped police force. Yes, the security votes they give governors could help, but to form a police force, with working equipment, forensics, training, and well armed is going to take more than just security vote.

Our current VP when he was governor used his security vote one year to buy 48 hilux trucks for the security forces. NOw imagine he was fuding state police. THat means after buying the hilux, he has no cash left over. OK.o. And value of naira has fallen since 2013.

2.Tribal and religious bias. SO what happens when there is tribal and religious conflict, and the police is majoirty from one side of the tribe? SOme people can still remember the pogroms of the 1960's. Police could do nothing. MOst of them were from one side.

ANyway, until states are ready to tax more of their gdp, and until we wake up and realize why we need fairness, we are not ready for state police. (Splitting the country won't solve the problems either)

You have raised some valid points, but these can all be addressed:
1.Most of the states do not have the funding to fund a properly equipped police force. Yes, the security votes they give governors could help, but to form a police force, with working equipment, forensics, training, and well armed is going to take more than just security vote.
--The FG budget would be drastically reduced as a lot of the functions will now be carried out by state police, so basically the FG can 'rebate' funds to the states for policing

2.Tribal and religious bias. SO what happens when there is tribal and religious conflict, and the police is majoirty from one side of the tribe? SOme people can still remember the pogroms of the 1960's. Police could do nothing. MOst of them were from one side.
---State police does not mean the end of Federal police. Many countries have multiple levels of law enforcement from town to state to Federal The Federal police would still exist and would mainly be dealing with crimes across state boundries, economic crimes and prevention of wide scale break down in law and order. If there were other such tribal based riots, it would be the Federal police that would have the responsibility to maintain law and order and protect innocent people

Basically the current situation is simply not working. Effective law and order must start from the grassroots upwards.
Politics / Re: "I Regret Voting For Tinubu" - Yoruba Man Cries Out by bjdon: 9:37am On Feb 02
You were 69 last year, a civil service director. This means you were educated, aware and also blessed with the experience of age. Despite all that you left your house last may, in the sun, to go and line up and vote for a man, with no primary school mates, no secondary school mates, no university class mates. A man who said 'Na statistics we chop?' . A man that when was asked how he would deal with insecurity replied 'El Rufai will take that question'
Would you as a civil service director have appointed such a person in the civil service? At your age you allowed tribal sentiments to rule your head and now your complaining. Sorry it's too late to complain, we must stand, sit, lie down on his mandate. When 2027 comes, then we can arrange ourselves again

Birniwa:
This won't do any magic, even if does, trust me the dollar will rise again faster than Usain Bolt.
The thing is, banks are not the only ones hoarding dollars, literally everyone does it in Nigeria. Think of BDCs, NNPC, politicians, and recently Nigeri'as business moguls such as Dangote.

If CBN does not arrest this issue wholly and proffer a realistic working solution, we will watch the naira set another all-time low price in a few days to come.
Bros, even small one person business have started converting their excess niara to dollars. Confidence in the Niara is seeping away at an alarming rate, and as that continues more people will be looking to keep their wealth in dollars, which will push the Niara down even more
Business / Re: Naira Trades At ₦1,520 Per Dollar by bjdon: 4:08pm On Jan 31
If you have savings, if you know anyone who has savings, please start to move it into dollars. Niara is going to crash big time. Investors and business people have lost confidence

beekind:
Like I said, can a couple plan a wedding within a budget of 1 million naira ?
This will include, bride prices, clothes, feeding of guests e.t.c.
You people really need to ask proper questions if you want correct answers

Where is the wedding being held? A wedding in Ilorin or Asaba, will be cheaper than a wedding in Abuja or Lagos
Where is the reception planned?
Roughly how many guests
Is it Traditional and Church, Traditional and Registry, Church only, Registry only, Islamic Wedding...?

If you supply all these details, then you will get more accurate answers

When people shout 'North this' or 'South that' its mostly always for their own selfish interest. For the man on the street who cares which CBN office is where. What we care about is the Banks are properly regulated so we don't wake up one day and our life savings have vanished, as used to happen in the past.
Who cares where FAA is regulated, as long as planes are not dropping from the sky like used to happen before.
it's only the selfish bigots thinking of their own interests that raise all these base sentiments. It's time for Nigerians to ignore them

The stupidity in the man's comments is truly breathtaking.

So you really thought that just because a President and is vice are muslims, that somehow means they are better than other Nigerians and would perform better. The black man is truly cursed by Religion and Tribe. Why can't we just go for the best?

This life no balance my people, all the Edo no be Lagos crowd have suddenly gone quiet
The same Godfatherism that the Governor fought tooth and nail to dismantle is exactly what he is trying to rebuild
We all know the Governor's preferred candidate and all this people that bought forms are all pawns who will step down on the Day of the primary for the Governor's preferred candidate
The biggest loser in all this is the Deputy Governor,he will eat the humble pie by force
He is just being tolerated in PDP and I am confident that he will soon decamp to another party to fulfil his ambition

I have been pondering over a thought and want to ask people on the forum
Funke Akindele's movie" A tribe called Judah" is being celebrated for being the first Nollywood movie to cross the 1 billion naira mark,Femi Otedola gave away 1 billion naira to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF)
My question is this: Who is a Billionaire,is it the one that makes a Billion or the one that gives away a Billion
Kindly check my signature for good titled properties
Edo no be Lagos
There is nothing wrong with a governor having a preferred candidate to replace him. The difference between Edo and Lagos is that the 3 candidates (PDP, LP , APC) will fight it out on a level playing field. Obaseki can only influence the candidate of the PDP, nothing more. No 'MC Olumo' type characters will be going around whipping and attacking people who do not vote PDP, as happned in Lagos.

So he expects Obaseki to support him even if he does not think him qualified to be Gov? Did Comrade support his deputy to be governor? In fact how many governors actually support their deputies to be governor? Being a deputy does not in anyway qualify you to be governor.

Politics / Re: Shaibu Suffers Blow As PDP Leaders From Edo North Endorse Ighodalo by bjdon: 1:23pm On Jan 09
It's really sad to see that in 2024, we are talking about tribe in the selection of a state Governor. 'The Binis have had it' , 'It's the turn of the Esan'....wow. Nobody is even outlining what should be the expectations of the next governor. What the candiates plans for key infrasture, for growing IGR....
If we do not raise our game as followers, we should not expect our leaders to raise their game either. So much of the economic hardship that people experience today, could be signficantly reduced if the sub national administrations (state govts and LG) were working effectlvly. I find it so surprising the selection of a state chief executive should be reduced to a tribal choice.
We should think carefully before allowing tribal sentiments guide our selection of leaders. Succesful nations, that we seek to emmulate and often migrate to, do not do that

This nonsensical open grazing needs to stop. That is the only way there will be peace. Nigeria's population is growing, more land is needed for framing and housing, you can't continue to wander all the place wiht cows, grazing them whereever you want. Countries that make billions a year from beef exports all use ranches, but as usual in Nigeria we must be held back by the stone age North.

What is wrong in demanding MERIT in our state and country? We complain about quota system, how under qualified people keep getting viatal positions simply due to where they come from
Are we not seeing the issue in our country today, with a president there becasue it was 'the turn of the Yoruba'? We need to evolve our thinking beyond base sentimetns. I've said it clearly that Asuse looks like the best candidate right now. If that's how things remain, I would have no problem supporing him, not becasue he's from Edo Central, but becasue he's he the best candiate. By the same token I would have no problem supporting a candiate from any other zone, if they appear to be better qualifed than him
