I am not againt reasonable taxation in Nigeria but my concerns are:

1. How have we judiciously utilised the ones being collected?

2. Have we blocked the tax collectation leakages from the existing ones?

3. What has the government done with regards to embezzlement and misappropriation of the taxes currently collected?

4. What measures have been deployed to stop the use of public taxes to finance the flamboyant lifestyles of civil servants and politicians alike?

5. The informal tax collection by the likes of NURTW, Local governments touts and some Unions, how has the government streamlined it to ensure proper remittance instead of the back-door shearing arrangements currently practised with the civil servants and politicians.

Before some of you who have not even travelled outside your village will start comparing Nigeria with your saner climes in terms of taxation, note that non of the above mentioned points/questions is in practice over there.

Valid questions. I feel once people start paying taxes, they will begin to hold government to account.

How does raising innterest rates help to fight inflation in Nigeira? Our inflation is not casused by too much moeny in circulation, it's caused by the high cost of fuel and the multiplier effect of that across the economy. If you like raise interest rates to 1000% it wont' make a darn bit of diffference to inflation. All it will do is raise the cost of capital and actually casue more business to fail.

Almost every word you've said is true. The one point i disagree with is the 'biggest problem in Nigeria' The north is not the biggest problem, the biggest problem is the lack of southern unity. As long as Yoruba and Igbo do not see eye to eye, the North will continue to play each side against the other. If the south could be united we could drive a positive agenda for this country based on fiscal federalism and regional autonomy. Sadly even in the younger generations the deep southern divide persists.

The current VAT sharing formula is just another way the south subsidizes the North. VAT is paid on goods services in a particular location. If my state has made efforts to increase economic activity, why should the VAT from such activity be going to another state? Without these kind of reforms the north will NEVER stand on it's feet and will remain poor, backward and underdeveloped
