Senate president, David Mark has said he will remain a loyal member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) no matter what. Mark made this known at a special church service to mark his 67th birthday at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy Apo in Abuja, Punch reports. According to him, those who have dumped the PDP following its defeat at the just concluded presidential election are fair weather friends. He said: “I have no reason to jump ship. I will not leave the PDP. I will be the last man standing for the PDP. The party gave me the platform to be where I am today. “I will stay in the PDP to contribute my quota to the rebuilding and restructuring of the party.” READ ALSO: Mark Congratulates Buhari, Commends Jonathan Mark was reacting to the gale of defection the PDP has suffered since President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential elections, to the opposition candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari. He pointed out that the outcome of presidential election in favour of APC is the will of God and majority of Nigerians and the PDP has already accepted their defeat in good faith. “Those drifting to the APC now are fair weather friends of the PDP. They are seeking new green areas. When the PDP bounces back, they will seek another return to the PDP. “I believe in PDP manifestos . I will work hard to bring the party back on track. What is important is that we have established democracy in Nigeria,” he added. Its been season of mass defection from one political party to another. Politicians have been cross-carpeting, moving to parties which they feel will favour them. Following PDP’s loss to APC during the presidential election, most of its members, have been dumping the party for the APC. Yesterday, some leaders of the PDP in Kwara state decamped to the APC ahead of the governorship elections. In Edo state, Maj.Gen. Charles Arhiavbere left the PDP with over 10,000 of his supporters for the APC on Easter Sunday. Reacting to the defection that is hitting the party across the country few days after it lost the presidential election , the PDP said it is immoral for its members to be defecting to the main opposition party, the APC. A Nigerian national residing in Malaysia needed a medical attention and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors and the hospital management refused to attend to him with flimsy excuses of attending to other inward patients. This eventually led to the demise of this young man who could have been saved if racism, Xenophobia and discrimination had not played out . Please continue to share this video, perhaps you can assist to bring this matter to the Foreign Affairs Ministry so as to commence an investigation with the Malaysian Mission in Abuja? Amaechi, that can't happen in Rivers State.. Go an follow your fellow Yoruba and Hausa men. Mr. Rotimi |
As over-ambitious politicians hire ex-militants as thugs PORT HARCOURT— IN Rivers State, the ex-militant leaders are clearly doing battle with Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who is leading All Progressives Congress, APC, opposition against Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, representatives in the state. Leader of the Niger-Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, had not hidden his disdain for Governor Amaechi, but he is more interested in what happens at the national level than what Amaechi is doing in Rivers State. Sometime ago, Ateke Tom, who is from the same area in Rivers State as the First Lady, Mrs.Patience Jonathan, flooded the streets of Port Harcourt with posters signifying his intention to run for governor. But nothing has been heard from him since the sale of nomination forms by the political parties for the governorship primaries started. Sobomabo Jackrich, alias Egberipapa, is another ex-militant leader that has been actively involved in the politics of the state. Rumours were rife at a time that he was going to contest for the chairmanship of his Asari Toru Local Government Area. It is not certain if he still has the aspiration, but he has a platform, Kengema Unity Forum, that cannot be ignored by PDP when it comes to election-related matters. Egberipapa’s group secured a Federal High Court judgment in Port Harcourt, February 18, which nullified the appointment of Justice Agumagu as acting Chief Judge of the state by Governor Chibuike Amaechi. A governorship aspirant on the platform of PDP, Mr NyesomWike, visited Egberipapa as Supervising Minister of Education in April, to drum up support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan. The visit echoed the significance of Egberipapa in the emerging political order in the state. Over-ambitious politicians hire ex-militants as thugs DESPITE embracing the amnesty programme, some of the ex-militants in Rivers have been recruited as political thugs by politicians, who want to assume power by hook or crook, in the state. Kidnapping, robbery, terrorism, among other crimes, are gradually returning to the state with the involvement of ex-militants in politics, as they see it as an avenue to regain access to guns. They have continuously indulged in acts that had, on different occasions, heated up the polity, causing undue riots, obstructing and disrupting programmes of opposing groups to favour the political aspiration of their paymaster. Last year, the ex-militant turned thugs were mobilized to invade the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly to the bewilderment of the Rivers people. Similarly, the same boys were used to disrupt a political gathering at a notable hotel in Port Harcourt on September 23. Worry A concerned youth leader, who spoke to Niger Delta Voice on condition of anonymity, bemoaned the violence ex-militants have brought into politics in the state. He said the boys who submitted their guns to the Federal Government were building a new ammunition base with the support of their sponsors, who are desperate to achieve their political ambition. His words: “The ex-militants are now back in the business. This time, as political thugs. They are now into obstructing and stopping political activities that are not in favour of their sponsors. Their activities heat up the whole system. “They are causing violence and will increase malpractice in the forthcoming election. There is fear that they will cause tension at the 2015 polls in the state.” He suggested that the boys be re-orientated before the general election in the state, else the whole thing may end in a war of sort. - Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/asari-dokubo-ateke-egberipapa-oppose-amaechi-rivers/#sthash.16ebM7yq.dpuf

Two Al Jazeera journalists held by the Nigerian military since March 24 have been released, the network has confirmed. Ahmed Idris and Ali Mustapha were allowed to leave the Maiduguri hotel where they were detained, and they have now completed the journey back to Al Jazeera's bureau in Abuja, Nigeria's capital. "We're pleased for Ahmed and Ali that their ordeal is over. They're looking forward to spending some time with their families and loved ones," Salah Negm, director of news for Al Jazeera English, said. "I know that both of them want to thank everyone that helped secure their release, including NGOs, politicians and fellow journalists." The Doha-based network had called for an immediate end to their detention, which began on March 24 in Maiduguri, the capital of the northeastern state of Borno. The pair were covering the Nigerian military's operations against Boko Haram, an armed grouped that has been fighting the government since 2009. The journalists' phones had been confiscated by the authorities and they had not been allowed to contact the outside world. Idris, who has more than 30 years of broadcasting experience, joined Al Jazeera in 2010. Mustapha has been a cameraman with Al Jazeera since 2011. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/04/nigeria-releases-detained-al-jazeera-journalists-150405161952385.html

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has assured of peaceful co-existence among the people of the state, saying that there will be no more police brutality or molestation. Speaking, weekend, with All Progressives Congress, APC, supporters during his Ward to Ward campaign in Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state, he urged the people to vote for Dr. Dakuku Peterside, APC governorship candidate in the state for the April 11 governorship poll. Amaechi said: “On Saturday, I expect everybody to come out and vote. There will be no police molestation again. There will be no army harassment again. Any policeman that molests you must be preparing to retire and this time, it will not be retirement, it will be punishment for retirement, so come out to vote. We are expecting you to come out and vote. “The reason why I am running from ward to ward is to encourage you to come out because after what the police and the army did last time, everybody will be afraid to come out. On Saturday, we should all come out to vote and as your governor, I urge you to vote for APC.” He re-emphasized that his government will set up a commission of enquiry to look into election-related deaths in the state during the March 28 presidential election. According to him, those found guilty by the law would be punished according to the law. “We have agreed to set up a commission of enquiry to investigate all the killings so far. So, all those people who killed, we shall punish them. Whether they like it or not, they must account for everybody they killed. “For the police, we believe that by now they must have learnt their lesson. We believe that by now they must have known that they were politicians and not officers of the Nigeria Police. This Saturday, we expect them to be Nigeria Police and not Nigerian politicians.” While in Emohua, the governor campaigned in Ogbakiri, Ibaa, Obele, Rumuewhor Odegu and Elele. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/polls-no-more-police-molestation-in-rivers-amaechi-assures/#sthash.DRhl8in8.dpuf |

GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi has appealed to those he has offended with his actions and inactions in the state as governor to forgive him, saying he acted in the interest of the state. The governor in a pre- election broadcast yesterday in Port Ha BRIEFING: Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State during a Press briefing on poltically motivated violence and deaths in Rivers State. BRIEFING: Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State during a Press briefing . rcourt, also urged people of the state to shun violence during the coming governorship election. He said people of the state should note that the election was for the progress of the state, adding that the common good of the state should be the concern of.all. “As we prepare for that election, we have a little time to reflect on the issues at stake. It must be about Rivers state. It must be about its progress and the prosperity of all who live here and are from here. “It must be about development, good governance, peace and security. We need to stand firm as a people for what we believe in. “When that day breaks, I encourage you all to come out with your Permanent Voters Cards, walk to the polling station to get accredited. “Even if it rains, stand to be counted. This election is about your life, your safety, the wellbeing of your loved ones, your business, and the future of your children, and ultimately, our great state. “Let it be said of you in the future that you stood up to be counted. Are the Niger Delta militants posing a threat to the incoming administration of the former Head of State and president- elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari as they did to current and past regimes? This question has become relevant because, barely four days after Buhari was declared winner of the Presidential election, beating incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, suspected militants have blown up a major high pressure gas pipeline at Ighwrenene Community in Delta State, warning the President-elect that he may have his hands full in containing the economic sabotage. The incident allegedly occurred around 2:30 am yesterday.milita The economic sabotage was coming about one week after some former leaders of the Niger Delta militants threatened to return to the creeks and resume their war against the Nigerian state in response to General Buhari’s election victory over Jonathan. But Jonathan’s quick congratulatory message to Buhari even before INEC, the electoral body, officially declared him winner doused tension in the land and forced some of them to retract their words. However, yesterday’s incident made the situation hazy. Also, a group of Urhobo youths under the aegis of Urhobo Gbagbako yesterday claimed responsibility for the March 22, bombings of the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, oil pipe lines in Ekiugbo, Ughelli Local Government Area “on a massive scale.” It said that the aim was to give vent to their demand for pipe line surveillance contracts. Nigeria is almost a one- product economy with oil contributing to about 90 percent of her wealth. Late former President, Alhaji Musa Yar’Adua had to grant amnesty to the Niger Delta militants who fought from the creeks to drive home their demand for derivation and resource control in the country. The Federal Government also approved 13 percent derivation as well as other programmes aimed at cushioning the effects of degradation occasioned by oil exploration for the oil producing states. However, as at 10am yesterday when Saturday Vanguard visited Ighwrenene Community, an official of the NPDC accompanied by two mobile policemen were at the scene making frantic calls on how to extinguish the inferno which was ravaging the area. Another official attached to the Pipeline Surveillance Unit, PSU, in the area who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the affected pipeline was a trunk line which convey the product from Eriemu, Kokori, Afiesere, Uzere, West-End at Kwale, Ogini, Olomoro and Owhe to the Ughelli Quality Control Center, UQCC. Attempts by fire fighters from the NPDC, SPDC and the Delta State Fire Service departments to extinguish the fire had not been successful even as one of their trucks got stuck along the road to the scene of the explosion making access to the spot almost impossible. Meanwhile, the Commanding Officer of the 222 Battalion, Agbarha-Otor, Lt. Col Mathew Oyekola told Saturday Vanguard that 15 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident. Pipeline surveillance contracts: Urhobo youths commence bombings of oil installations In a statement yesterday, leader of Urhobo Gbagbako, Priest Omodjuvwu, said the group carried out the latest round of bombing along the Afiesere and Ekiugbo axis of the council area, during which it shut down all the oil fields in Urhobo and Isoko nations. Omodjuvwu said, “We have earlier warned NPDC and the Federal Government on the pipeline surveillance contract to no avail. ‘’The contract is going on without the inclusion of the Urhobo, and that is injustice being meted to the Urhobo, which we will resist to the end. We need the pipe line surveillance contract now or the bombings will continue. “We have now commenced bombings of oil and gas installations in Ekiugbo/Ighrenene/Afiesere areas and we will continue in an unprecedented scale, until we get the pipe line surveillance contracts in our area.” He also, added that the group’s quest for oil contracts was immediate, in the absence of which the youths would continue the assault on oil facilities in their domain, without waiting for the expiration of the 14 days ultimatum earlier credited to it. The Federal Government was said to have on March 16, reviewed its new plan to safeguard the waterways and oil pipelines by allegedly directing the Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to quit the job for some companies, which had been signed on by the government. The companies were reportedly owned by some former Niger Delta militants and prominent citizens including Government Tompolo; Mujaheedin Asari-Dokubo, Chief Bipobiri Ajube (aka Gen. Shoot-At-Sight) as well as the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, led by Dr. Frederick Fasehun and Gani Adams. About seven companies were said to have been allocated “regions” or operational areas as follows: Egbe Security River One (Bayelsa); Gallery Security (Mosinmi -Ore); Close Body Protection (Edo State); Adex Energy Security(Rivers) ; Donyx Global Concept(Lagos and Ogun); Oil Facilities Surveillance-(Delta) and New Age Global Security (Mosinmi-Ibadan). The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), it was said, would coordinate the jobs. Nigeria has been battling with huge revenue loss due to vandalism of oil and gas pipelines. Dokubo threatens to resume militancy in response to Buhari’s election victory NIGER Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo had threatened to return to the creeks and resume his war against the Nigerian state in response to General Muhammadu Buhari’s election victory over President Goodluck Jonathan. On Saturday, Nigerians went to the polls to elect a new president and Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, beat incumbent President Jonathan of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. This was even as the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, sent Buhari a congratulatory message, saying that Nigerians made the right choice. However, Mr Dokubo, who earlier promised to unleash violence on the country if President Jonathan was not re-elected, promised to return to the creeks, blaming the Yoruba and Hausa for working against Ndigbo and Niger Deltans. I think its the current situation that's causing this. They accepted the outcome of a rigged election, and the so-called winners rained insults on the south, its not Akpabio's job, its Nigeria's job. otokx: |
Boys gone crazy... This will really be bad for Nigeria.. People will say Buhari will wipe out these boys, they forget that the pipes are not safe anymore... The pipes in Nigeria is Nigeria's number one source of income. Which way Nigeria? |
Gun-toting security personnel have been drafted to Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, following the kidnapping of five personnel of the oil company by unknown gunmen. The kidnapping occurred 20 hours after the presidential and parliamentary elections took place. THISDAY gathered that the incident took place on Monday at a Floating Storage and Offloading Vessel (FSO) in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Sources said five indigenous personnel who were working offshore at the FSO were kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be roving militants. A source said following the incident, the management of ExxonMobil decided to shut down operations. According to the source, the management was scared of further invasions by the militants and related post-election violence. “They are scared that the militants will attack them again. Since they kidnapped five oil workers at the offshore, they have been thinking that they might attack them again onshore. That is why they shut down production,” the source said. It was equally gathered that the company’s security department had advised its management to bring all the vessels together to avert further kidnapping of personnel by the militants in the area. “Any vessel that is actively working, Mobil should now have three anchorages so that those vessels will be under security watch. “Each of the anchorages will not stand close to each other so that they can be under security watch in order to forestall militants coming close to the vessels,” the source added. A shocking video recorded for PREMIUM TIMES in Polling Units 009, 010 and 011 at Oniong West Ward 1, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has exposed an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission colluding with supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in the area to rig the presidential and national assembly election in favour of the party. The ugly incident happened in the village square – Ikot Eko Ibon village – within the full glare of the villagers. Former Secretary to the Federal Government, Obong Ufot Ekaette and wife, Eme Ekaette, a former senator, are from the area. But they did not show up for voting on Saturday. Some of those who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES in the area said the Ekaettes may have stayed away from voting because of their disappointment with the PDP and Governor Godswill Akpabio’s leadership style. INEC officials were through with voters’ accreditation as early as 1:30PM in the three units, but refused to commence voting until some PDP chieftains arrived around 4pm. The PDP chieftains, who apparently were working in agreement with the INEC officials in the units, immediately ordered all the voters to move away from the polling centre. In the midst of the confusion that ensued, gunshot was fired within the polling centre, prompting the voters who were mostly old men and women from the village to run away to safety. The PDP supporters then had a field day thumb-printing ballot papers, under the supervision of INEC officials. Security officials were not deployed in the three units. It is unclear if it is deliberate to allow the PDP supporters execute their plans without molestation. One of the INEC officials in the units told PREMIUM TIMES he and his colleagues were under pressure from their ‘boss’ to assist the PDP win the elections, but didn’t however explain who the boss was. The PDP governorship candidate, Udom Emmanuel, is from Onna Local Government Area where the rigging captured on the video took place. In other parts of Akwa Ibom state, especially in areas considered as APC strongholds, there were reported cases of non-availability of election result sheets at the polling units. The APC governorship candidate, Umana Umana objected to INEC accreditation and election taking place in his ward at Ndiya, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, because election result sheets were not available. The Akwa Ibom state chapter of the APC has petitioned INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, calling for fresh election in the state. On Monday, the APC governorship candidate led a peaceful protest to INEC office in Uyo calling for the cancellation of the poll, describing it as a farce. The protesters stormed the INEC office while the collation of the presidential election result was going on. Mr. Umana said the party would not accept the results of Saturday’s elections held in the state. He said the party, after a review of field reports on the elections across the state, had come to the conclusion that the elections be cancelled. The People’s Democratic Movement’s candidate for the House of Representatives (Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency), Anny Asikpo, has made similar allegation of election result sheets not being available during the election. “We have 365 polling units, but as I speak to you I have not seen nor know how the result sheets for yesterday’s election look like because everything was carted away by the PDP to an unknown destination. There was no election in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District,” Dr. Asikpo told a local radio station in Akwa Ibom State, Planet FM, on telephone during a live phone-in programme on Sunday Click the link below to view video http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/180239-nigeriadecides-video-exposes-inec-officials-colluding-with-pdp-to-rig-elections.html |
UGHELLI—The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday suspended collation of results of the National Assembly elections held in Delta Central senatorial district on Saturday. Announcing the suspension, the Returning Officer of the senatorial district, Prof Greg Okagbare, said it was occasioned by protests against the exercise, noting that “Some people are not satisfied with the results that we are collating. “I have decided to stay action on the collation till I get further directive because they said there is need for them to seek clarification and look at the basic information that led to the final figures we are collating.” Meanwhile, Delta State Labour Party governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, has raised alarm over what he termed the circulation of fake result sheets for the Delta State governorship election scheduled to hold on April 11. Speaking at his Abraka residence in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, Chief Ogboru described the circulation of the result sheets as a shock to him and his party. He said: “It was a big shock for us when we found out that materials for the governorship election are already in the state and possibly tampered with. Personally, we do not know who is culpable, between INEC and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. “When we went to CBN to sort out materials for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, we noticed that the seal for the package of the governorship result sheet was broken. “Though we have made a formal protest to INEC, we are calling for fresh result sheets to be sent to Delta State.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/inec-suspends-result-collation-in-delta-central/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter#sthash.jgLnTgm5.dpuf |
ABUJA – NATIONAL leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Monday hailed the results of the eight states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, just as it Congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for leading so far. Addressing Journalists in Abuja Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh said that the focus was meeting the constitutional requirement of having 25 percent of two- third of the states, just as he said that the PDP does not engage in speculation. The first eight states as announced by INEC were Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Nassarawa, Kogi, Enugu, Ekiti and FCT. Metuh who also disclosed that the party has directed its members to file petition to INEC in areas where there were problems, however commended Nigerians for voting for Jonathan, adding, “if this pattern continues, it means Nigerians love the President. Whoever wins must have high number of votes cast, so far the PDP is leading in the 8 states and have satisfy 25 percent requirement. On account of result released so far, we congratulate our president. “We are not interested in who won in the states but 25 percent recorded in the states.” Metuh who explained that the PDP has refrained from making comments, but consequent upon the INEC announcement of results, which commenced yesterday in the afternoon, “it is appropriate to talk.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/pdp-expresses-satisfaction-with-results-so-far-announced-by-inec/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook#sthash.ceYsGlmI.dpuf |

Kano has led the way for the north in abysmal voter turnout. Kano underperformed 2011 levels & wit this margin of loss of 1.7. Rivers state will out rightly cancel it out. Delta will take care of Katsina. Jonathan will get a massive voter win margin of close to 8M in the SS & SE. I fail to see statistically speaking where Buhari & APC will get this difference from. Their math does not add up. Not with Kano & Katsina posting less than 3M already. The voter turnouts in Gombe,Borno is so low that Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district of Akwa Ibom state will out rightly cancel them out right. Also one more thing to note is that the PVC collection rates in the north of 90+% have been patently proven to be false as the voter turnout did not support it especially in state like Borno,Gombe & Bauchi. This election is over. Jonathan will be reelected. This piece, reminded me of an African prose we read in those days; Weep not child. So i tell you fellow Nigerians, do not fret, for the Goodluck from God still over shadows Nigeria till 2019 |
