How about water. schools, hospitals etc. It seems the only thing the politicians do is roads. |
chime11:That"s most likely the reason why. People get into language school, and upon landing , jump out of their programmes. To curb such visa violations, I guess the govt. invoked those new requirements. It has been mentioned here severally, graduate school or undergraduate school is a much cheaper and better route compared to language school. Also @gerrard59 alos gave you more insights to your question. |
chime11:No, it is not normal. Is it a language school? |
blackbriar:https://www.mofa.go.jp/press/release/pressite_000001_01599.html Regarding the “JICA Africa Hometown” announced by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the TICAD 9, there have been reports and statements both domestically and internationally that contain information contrary to the facts. The facts regarding this matter are as follows: At the TICAD 9, JICA announced the launch of the “JICA Africa Hometown”, which aims to strengthen exchanges between African countries and Japanese local governments based on the experience gained through its previous projects. Under this program, four cities in Japan are designated as “home towns” for four African countries. Under this program, JICA plans to promote exchanges between the four Japanese cities and the four African countries through various activities, including the organization of exchange events involving JICA overseas cooperation volunteers. On the other hand, there are no plans to take measures to promote the acceptance of immigrants or issue special visas for residents of African countries, and the series of reports and announcements concerning such measures are not true. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will continue to make efforts to ensure that appropriate reporting and statements regarding this matter are carried out. |

TICAD( and Kisarazu https://statehouse.gov.ng/news/japan-designates-city-of-kisarazu-as-hometown-for-nigerians/ The government of Japan on Thursday named the city of Kisarazu as the hometown for Nigerians willing to live and work in the country as part of its strategic efforts to deepen cultural diplomacy, promote economic growth and enhance workforce productivity. Under this new partnership, announced on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference for African Development, the Japanese government will create a special visa category for highly skilled, innovative, and talented young Nigerians who want to move to Kisarazu to live and work. Artisans and other blue-collar workers from Nigeria who are ready to upskill will also benefit from the special dispensation visa to work in Japan. |

Rictech:One way ticket. Nothing to ask. Just make sure your flight goes through a transport hub like Malayaisa, Singapore, Qatar or Dubai and france (not to sure on this one) No body will ask to see your visa in these countries for your coneecting flights until you land in Japan Don't use flight that requires you to go throught the immigartion of another country. My advice to you is draw a paln, what would you be doing daily. Morning - Japanese classes offered by univeristy? Lunch break - Play sports at school gym (please do this, this is the best networking opoortunity in the university, Engage in any sport you like, you will make the most helpful friends here, and professors form all departments will play these sports with you, you can speak with them freely for help) Afternoon - Tasks from Professor and Research Work Evening - go hustle ? Go to international dpeartment and get all the forms for masters and familairiase yourself with it. Upon getting your admision letter for masters Program [ some few weeks to the end of your 6 months], The university does also help to apply for your student visa or you can go yourself to the nearest immigration office (which is usually the local airports). Round trip ticket lol Oga familiriase your with the visa the countries offer. My humble 2 cents |
Gerrard59:Bros, what can we do but sigh, and continue to help. However, it is most worrisome that if one can't do a simple google search in English, how would cope in Japan with the language. |
ayswagga5:Don't let that stop you. Look for schools and Professors that carry out your research of interest. Write an introductory mail to the Professor. In your mail use your Africanness for once. We don't use this our "STRENGTH " so much i personally believe. Your Situation is as follows. You are from a poor African country and will want to further your education. However, you don't have all the funds. You would like do research in bla bla,, which is why you send a mail to him. Talk about how you value Japan work and research ethics. You have funds for say 1 semester; would it be possible for the professor to help you with a scholarship? In the meantime research about MEXT. Would it be possible for the professor to nominate you for MEXT scholarship as well? Send this kind of mail to as many as many professor in your field of interest. But you should be ready before sending such a mail. By ready ; do you have the following: 1. A draft copy of your research of interest? ( read 2 pages backwards ) 2. physical and scanned copies of your educational quals? 3. physical and scanned copies of your transcript? 4. Ielts academic? My Humble 2 cents. |
Maxxim:Please try to contact the Japanese Embassy in Abuja either by mail or phone call (or both) for further clarification. I couldn't find a clear answer to your question. Sorry about that. My Humble 2 cents. |
Gerrard59:For his first 6 months, he can live there. He can chose to move to the Japnese hostels later on. Or move in to the nearest UR or village house apartments. surely there wlll be cheaper options. For now, he will be JJC and need stablility. |
Rictech:** Dormitory 3 is good. but shating facilties wiht the locals might be a huge cultural change and a lot to take in. Cheap and new but small. ***. Settle International is not bad at all for 47,500 yen per month. It is super new and kinda spacious. Stay with this one. Upon physical landing, research about UR Housing. they are cheaper govt. public housing My humble 2 cents. |
Rictech:What are the other hostel options besides international house? The International house just means everyone in that building will be international students. While the other school hostel will be a mix of locals and international students. Married students prefer international houses mostly. While the rent of 37,000 yen is not bad. The other fees make it expensive. I am sure that you can get the other school hostel rooms for less than 30,000 yen monthly inclusive of internet, electricity and utilities. Kindly check the brochure again for cheaper hostel options. My humble 2 cents. |
Unlimitedlucky:Does your bank statement cover the average monthly expenses in Japan https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/life/cost-of-living/ |
Nfest:Fill it quicker. Like Yesterday. Accommodation in school hostel is cheaper and limited. And straight form Airport, to Free Aiport shuttle bus offered by School straight to your room. For example. Accomodation in School hostel cost Rent 10,000 - 15,00 yen monthly, inclusive of internet, electricity. Aim for International Student hostels. transportation cost - 0 Yen, as hostel is close or inside campus. The School will reserve a room in your name for when you resume. ACT NOW. cons It might be shared kitchen. However look through the hostels on offer for the room layout and costs. However, should you choose to go with provate renting. First week in hotel as no accomdation available. Average hotel is 10,000 yen per night. Rent is like 40,000 - 60,000 yen monthly Electicity - 6,000 - 10,000 yen monthly Water: 3,000 - 5,000 monthly Internet; 5,000 - 7,000 monthly Gas; 1,000 - 2,000 monthly Tranportation : 1,000 - 2,000 monthly. Rictech:Please and Please attend Basic Japanese Classes organised by the University. It is Free. Tell your Professor about this too, so that he can plan your research schedule to allow you attend the Japanese classes. Try to get/buy a used bicycle from a used bicylce shop, registratio of the bicycle in your name is free at the bicycle shop. Superhelpful and conveninet. Please, Please and Please do not ride a bicycle that does not belong to you. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My humble 2 cents If police stops you. it is a crime like stealing a car |
Uchman:I dont think So. Dependents need COE as well and this may take 3 - 6 months after master student puts in the application. Some of the documents masters students wioud required to apply for the COE would need to come from the University. So until on ground for enrolment, not possible to start application. My humble 2 cents |
Rictech:CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too easy. |
J984:With the housing crisis, the options are 1. Have a partner and both you bring in a 100k aud annually. For a professional this is most possible. 2. Buy within your limit. Don't go to buy a 1million aud property. 3. If you are single, aim for apartments, units and townhouses as first properties. Yes, weather is hot and the suns burns more here. 1. If you your job doesnt need working expose to the sun, if you have no problems. 2. However, if you need to work under the sun, wear long sleeve shirts, face caps and eyeglasses and yes, sunscreen and you are good to go. Welll if you are having second thoughts due to the sun, there are lots of brits in aussie, and they all left Uk for aussie for the sun as well and they love it in Australia. My humble 2 cents. |

chaiks:If i am not mistaken, the point-based system is for the HSP visa (Highly Skilled Visa). If you get 80 points and apply for the HSP Visa in say for example Y2024/25, you qualify to apply for the PR visa (eijuken) the next fiscal year Y2025/26. With a Phd degree from a Japanese University, the points you easily qualify for towards the HSP visa are; 1. Phd Degree - 30 points 2. Graduated from Japanese University - 10 points 3. **Research achievements (3 papers) - 20/15 points ** a Phd graduate must publish 3 papers to graduate in Japan. so your papers automatically gives you 15/20 extra points. So phd from a Japanese university gives you additional easy - 55/60 points before considering other mandatory criterias such as age, salary, professional career etc. So with these almost all phd graduates in Japan are over-qualified for the HSP Visa (80 points) . Thats how phd graduates in Japan quickly qualify to apply for PR. Offical Govt link https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/long/visa16.html Other Sources https://kuiso.oc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/visa/for_highly_skilled/ All my friends with phD already have their PRs using this HSP route. My humble 2 cents |
Younglami:My humble advice, just do your assessment already and lodge an EOI. |

Nfest:Congratulations!! Next Visa application |
chaiks:With a phd in Japan. PR is almost certain. As phd graduates over exceed the points requirement ofr HSP visa(highly skilled visa) After holding the HSP vsisa for 1 year, you can apply for PR. Too easy, no country does it this easy. |
