On a 160k income, I gotta commend u. U should open a thread on your savings culture
FlyboyZee:
I bought my first car ever when my salary was N64,000.00/month. That was a/an '03 Honda Accord (EoD) that's in my profile pix. By the time ny salary was about N93,000.00/month, I was already driving my 4th car, a Mercedes Benz 190 E. Now that I'm earning about N160,000.00/monthly, I am driving a 2009/10 Honda Civic Coupé and it costs me next to nothing to keep her running.

If I can keep the car running with additional responsibilities such as house rent, school fees and other supports for younger siblings, then you can do it also. Do not mind those who are discouraging you. Please, follow your desires.

it's not proper to compare fuel economy of corolla and accord. They come with different engine capacities. Compare the corolla with civic on fuel efficiency.
The more reason why I advised he goes for a corolla instead of a accord. Less cost, it get you around and frankly, it's not bad to look at

2000 - 2002 Accord are fuel efficient, cheap to maintain and sweet to drive.
In as much as the above is true, ild advice u go for a corolla or yaris. Honda can't take as much abuse as toyota and judging by your tone, ure looking to not spend much on maintaining a vehicle.
There's also the issue of fuel economy. My 05 corolla Le auto tranny (bought 9ja used) that even needs an O2 sensor replacement( this will improve fuel economy) still averages 30mpg when the manufacture spec is 35mpg for combined city/highway driving. I don't see any accord beating that. 2k fuel takes me through the week with AC and enough leftover for weekend movement. That said, all u gotta do is service with max 15k if u want to stick with manufacturers recommendation( 5w30 oil-7500, denso plugs-3k, oil filter-1500 and labour) and ure good to go.
The Honda is certainly more luxurious, It took a lot of will for me to decide on the corolla but I gotta tell u it was d better choice.
Car TalkRe: 100k Salary Enough To Get A Car? by blackfm: 7:21pm On Apr 09, 2015
I'ld say go for the car so long u don't reach for ones with expensive maintenance. A regular car for a 25yr old is not luxury but a necessity if the initial outlay can be put together.
A yoruba adage says when a child is old enough to own a hoe, we give him one.
There might be a utility car at home but it's not urs and u still get restrictions and stuff..
The question should be what car to go for coz u certainly need one.

Car TalkMorgas 5w30 Oil Review by blackfm(op): 11:04am On Mar 19, 2015
Morning guys, I have been using 5W 20 oil for my 05 corolla but you guys have helped me understand the need to stick with recommended oil so I want to use 5w30 for my servicing which is due already.
All d petrol stations I've checked sell 5W20 and 0W40 but I stumbled on someone that sells 5W30 on here.
My question is this, does the brand label matter, the brand the person sells is MORGAS oil but the viscosity is the recommended one for my car.
Can anyone who has used this please share their experience.
Thanks

if becos u idle ur car for too long while on ac and ur car wanted to overheat, u need to check ur fan , it is going bad .I am sure ur fan is directly connected.
My fan isn't directly connected.it was before but I switched it back to factory setting earlier this month. It's been sung here time after time how bad that is for the car.
Car TalkRe: Please Is It Bad To Run You Engine Idling With D A/C On For A Long Time. by blackfm: 11:57am On Mar 18, 2015
I don't think it's a good idea to idle for long. Sometimes last week, I was idling with the AC running , after about 45mins and i noticed my temp gauge was almost on red and quickly powered down the car.
Car TalkRe: My Car Makes Terrible Noise On Rough Roads by blackfm: 10:55pm On Mar 16, 2015
Mine is a clunking sound like something is loose under the car or In the wheel, I've checked but found nothing. It's started to affect d balance of the car now as it feels like it's swaying at time on motion
erico2k2:
For starters, you said this noise is observed when on rough rd, not that steers you to you wheels and suspension system. This you need to tell us, is it a cracking/clicking noise? a rubbing noise or noise with vibration? is it from the back or the front? left or right?is it a rattling noise? reason Im asking is cos I suffered same with a diff kind of car and I changed a specific part and it stopped.
Car TalkRe: My Car Makes Terrible Noise On Rough Roads by blackfm: 7:55pm On Mar 16, 2015
It's not even expensive to change the linkage, got mine done for 6k but it seems to av worsened the problem. I don't speed past 60 for fear of an unforseen failure pending when I'm chanced to have it checked out
sanky346:
It can't be tyre. My tyres are good. It has to be something mechanical. I also want to get a more accurate opinion so I can just address the fault directly. Its going to cost money if one changed stabiliser linkage and bushing and it turns out not to be the fault

Thanks folks. What model would fall in the price range?
Car TalkRe: My Car Makes Terrible Noise On Rough Roads by blackfm: 8:11pm On Mar 11, 2015
The feedback I've been getting so far are these:
1. Stabliser linkage is bad if the shock absorbers are ok
2. Bushing needs to be changed
Or tyres are bad
I'm not going with any for now till I can get feedback frm someone who isn't guessing as wildly

I feel you should have replaced that compresor.
The guy actually mentioned doing that but also said it could still run fine after testing plus the cost was already way above my budget so I stuck with the old one. Good thing evaporator was fine else ild have tuck tails and ran cheesy

Congrats. When everything works, you will forget the hole in your pocket. Professional repair doesn't come cheap.

It would be nice to have this tech's contact. On the mainland?
I sure hope so. Hez at ikotun and the result is worth the distance travelled.
The system was coupled and vacuumed then gased. The AC works like a charm..for now anyway, ild like to observe for a few days before breathing a sigh of relief.
That's the status after 10hrs(9am to 6pm) and 20 sumtin grand

Work In Progress
1. Evaporator was checked and confirmed ok, it had a lot of oil that had to be flushed anyway.
2. Expansion valve changed.
3. Drier was blocked with pure water nylon by god know who and then cut off from the radiator..these were corrected
4. Compressor was repaired for low pressure..has excess oil too
5. Condenser and hi-low hoses were flushed
This better work, my pocket aint smiling right now

You have air in ur system...
take ur car to a good shop with mo r dern equipment that will pull a vacuum on the system..it shud get to neg 29hg and hold for 30mins to confirm u dont hv a leak and ensure all the air n water vapour in it is removed.

Most ac techs in naija dont vacuum a system when changing compressor or cond3nser...this is a must.

Also ur dryer and cond3sner shud be changed same time as the compressor.
Could you plz recommend a tech that has this vacuum. Thanks

Question 1. Does your car engine vibrate when u switch on the ac?
The engine doesn't vibrate when I switch on ac but i'll feel the ac getting powered like a kinda power surge. The only time it vibrated was after I changed the battery and that didn't take long to stop

Car TalkRe: Why Does A Failing Car Battery Catch People Unawares? by blackfm: 9:03pm On Feb 25, 2015

The signs will always be there. Watch out for sluggish cranking. Lights a little dim at engine idle. Wiper and AC blower slowing down at engine idle, etc.

My battery has never died on me. I would get a new one and put in the booth when these signs show up. The thing dies about two weeks after. Just be a little more observant.
Omo my battery screw me yday. The old one I had had been giving me signs it was gonna pack up so I got a new one and put it in d trunk. It eventually gave up on Friday and I switched to the new one
Coming from work yesterday, the car just die 4 middle of road, thank God it wasn't express. Turns out the guys that pressure washed my engine had cut one of my alternator wires on Sunday and I didn't know.
One sharp cab driver quickly used his battery to start my car and claimed his 1k sharply! No time
Car TalkPlease Recommend A Good Toyota AC Technician by blackfm(op): 8:31pm On Feb 25, 2015
Hello house, please help. I'm close to my wits end.
I bought a 9ja used 2005 corolla and was duly informed the AC is faulty. It blows fine when speeding but blows hot when in traffic or
parked.
I have changed the condenser, serviced compressor, changed air filter, confirmed there is no gas leak, reconnected fan to start working on startup but this problem persists.

Please recommend a reliable AC tech who knows his stuff if you know one. I'm on the mainland but I won't mind going anywhere so far the tech can fix my issue.
Please assist a brother
