All the critics that were raving about this movie deserve to be flogged. It took me two days to finish 28 years later.
The only part of the movie that makes sense is when the kid and his dad went to the mainland. After that the plot got nonsensical, everything about the movie just dey vex me.
A 12 year old who can barely kill zombies took his sick mother to a zombie infested land to find a doctor. At the end the journey turned out to be a complete waste of time.
In addition to the weak plot, this movie is also boring.
When the credits rolled I was asking myself, "is that it? What is the point of this movie?"
28 years later is a 2/10
Please avoid it. |

DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE AT HOME
James Cameron's Avatar was made for the big screen. I remember seeing Way of Water in cinema and my god, those visuals were breathtakingly stunning.
Fire and Ash could be bigger and better.

abduleez1: TV fans, what do you make of this??
With the incoming launch of the Tsunami that is the DCU, who's a top or good actress who's significantly well known amongst TV audience that can veritably play the role of our beloved №1 superheroine— Wonder Woman ??
I'd have said Adria Arjona, would have been a perfect match and facial resemblance— but she's too short. 🤧 Now I'm thinking maybe, Frida Gustavsson of VIKINGS: VALHALLA would be the perfect choice. Similar young age as Superman and Lex Luthor actors. Perfect height. Has the warrior looks and played a very similar role as Wonder Woman, has the elegance and everything.
But what other options we got?
Modified: Gunn has clarified that DC isn't casting based on specific role or movies, but by acting prowess. So the list of possible actors goes BIGGER. If Gunn is casting based on acting prowess, then there's no better actress that fits WW than Elizabeth Debicki. She's 6"3 tall. She's an accomplished TV drama actress, won a golden globe and Emmy for portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, a very iconic role. Only two years older than David, so not too old and not too young either. Only downside is her physique. She's really slim. Some would even call her skinny but that can be fixed with dieting and exercise. She's worked with Gunn before on GOTG vol 2 and 3. Gunn is known to use the same actors across different films.

bentenny: I agree! Nothing wrong with a few jokes here and there in order to occasionally balance with the movie's main intention but making it probably the main theme of a action hero movie like superman was a major let down! Secondly,I hated the fact that Superman constantly got his azz kicked by virtually everyone as if he was a rookie Shazam in the movie! SPOILER WARNINGDid we watch the same movie Superman only lost to one person in the whole movie. Ultraman, his cl**e, who was being controlled by Lex, the genius billionaire who studied Superman and the way he fights and even developed his own counter moves to defeat him. The movie even states at the beginning that Superman is the most powerful metahuman in the world and he has never lost a battle in over 3 years...until Ultraman. Bro beat Ultraman and the Engineer, beat all of the Lex's goons in a few seconds. Escaped a pocket dimension with kryptonite poison in his body and saved many people when the city was falling apart. So tell me again which movie did you watch |

BlackManta: SUPERMAN: MY HONEST REVIEW
I saw Superman yesterday and thought it was a good movie. Action-packed, emotional, with solid characters and great visuals. It’s a solid movie overall, but not a perfect one. It has its strengths and weaknesses—but at the end of the day, the pros outweigh the cons.
---
THE PROS
Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor
A fantastic villain. He brought so much energy to this movie. He played Lex in a way that radiates envy, hatred, and disdain for Superman. He’s menacing and genuinely scary. This version of Lex Luthor is a stone-cold killer—a real hater. His entire purpose is to take down Superman.
I love that the movie doesn’t try to make us feel sympathy for Lex or justify why he’s evil. In this movie, Lex is evil because that’s just who he is. Full stop. No tragic backstory or emotional trigger. Being evil is simply in his nature.
He spends the entire movie rage-baiting Superman, and until the third act, he has the upper hand. This is by far the best Lex Luthor I’ve ever seen—strong, brilliant, and terrifying. The movie shows that even though Superman is powerful, Lex can humble him with his intelligence. There’s a great line where Lex gloats and says, “Brain beats brawn.” It hits hard.
The way Lex was written and used made me like the character even more. Nicholas Hoult is perfectly cast—he’s the best actor in this movie. He absolutely killed it. No complaints.
---
David Corenswet as Superman
Charming and charismatic. David is a phenomenal Superman. This is not a dark or brooding version—this Superman wants to be Superman. David radiates the hope and optimism the character is known for. He’s heroic and also very human.
Before seeing this movie, I heard someone say Zack Snyder made SUPERman and James Gunn made superMAN. David Corenswet brings so much energy to the role that it makes that statement true. He completely owns it.
I’m glad his Superman doesn’t carry the gloom and stoicism that Henry Cavill’s version had. He genuinely sees himself not as an alien, but as part of the human race. He treats Metropolis like home and carries his duties like a good-natured boy scout.
James Gunn captures Superman’s humility and humanity. He’s not treated like a god but like a normal, everyday hero.
---
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
A very strong and beautiful female character. What I like most about this Lois Lane is that she’s not a damsel in distress. She actually helps Superman take down Lex Luthor. She’s intelligent, charming, and has amazing chemistry with David.
That chemistry is one of the most important things in a Superman movie, and it works perfectly here. Lois isn’t just a background character—she plays just as major a role as Superman. She’s well-written, courageous, and gets things done.
Even among people with superpowers, she still stands out and contributes in meaningful ways.
---
THE JUSTICE GANG
I originally thought they were only in the movie to show that this world has other superheroes. I didn’t expect them to do anything important. But by the end, I liked them way more than I expected.
Mr. Terrific was my favorite. He’s basically the Batman of the group—no superpowers, but super smart and tech-savvy.
Guy Gardner blew my expectations. I didn’t expect much from him, but he brought great humor to the movie. His scenes were the funniest. Nathan Fillion was born to play this role.
Hawkgirl was my least favorite. She didn’t really stand out, except for one scene where she killed someone by dropping them from the sky.
Overall, though, the Justice Gang were an essential part of the movie.
---
THE VISUALS
Top notch. Not mind-blowing like Man of Steel or Snyder’s DC movies, but still really good. I’d say the visuals are on par with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and in some scenes, even better.
The CGI is 99% great. The bright, colorful cinematography fits the tone of this movie perfectly.
---
ACTION-PACKED
Superman is an action sci-fi movie, and the action is really good—especially in the third act.
There’s a scene where Superman lasers all of Lex’s henchmen while spinning at high speed. It’s in the trailer, but seeing it on the big screen blew my mind.
The action isn’t like Man of Steel, where cities are leveled and civilian casualties are everywhere. David’s Superman is much more careful—he protects civilians and tries to limit the damage around him.
Mr. Terrific also has an incredible action scene that I enjoyed a lot.
James Gunn knows how to do action. If you’ve seen his other movies, you’ll know what to expect—and he delivers.
---
CHEMISTRY BETWEEN CLARK AND LOIS
One of the most important things in a Superman movie is the chemistry between Clark and Lois. Without it, the whole thing feels flat.
Thankfully, James Gunn nailed this. The two leads aren’t just great in their roles—they have real, believable chemistry. It makes a huge difference.
---
THE CONS
PACING
The pacing is a bit off—especially in the first half.
There’s a lot going on: heavy world-building, tons of new characters, and lots of exposition. It can be overwhelming if you're not used to comic book movies.
The first hour moves too fast. The story needed more time to breathe. But once the movie hits the second hour, the pacing improves and everything starts to flow better.
---
NOT ENOUGH KENTS
I thought Pa Kent and Ma Kent were underused. There’s a heartfelt scene where Pa Kent talks to Clark, and it was arguably the best part of the movie—but it was too short.
I wish we spent more time with them. Their scenes were beautiful and emotional, and they deserved more screen time.
---
RUNTIME TOO SHORT
The movie is 130 minutes long, and honestly, I think that’s too short.
It feels like James Gunn trimmed it for the sake of making it more rewatchable. But if the movie had 15 more minutes, that pacing issue I mentioned earlier probably wouldn’t exist.
It’s a very entertaining movie, but it left me wanting more.
---
I can’t wait to see the next DCU project. James Gunn is building something special here, and I think it has serious potential.
---
FINAL RATING: 8/10 Did I mention that the score was really good. It's no Hans Zimmer but it's better than I expected. Also Krypto was great in this movie. Almost every character gets a moment to shine.

SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER!!!
I wanted this movie to flop but I was proven wrong.
This movie does everything right. The jokes. The subtle political themes (Israel v Palestine). The action. The visuals.
The movie was well paced. No boring part. I really hated Lex Luthor which means the actor did his acting well. Lex Luthor hated superman with a passion. Gaddem. The casting was just so good.
Abduleez1 well done. You escaped blasting as this movie didn't flop.
Sha, lets see if DC can keep this up.
Fantastic 4 movies usually flop hard. Let's see what marvel will do... Someone said the president of Boravia looked a bit like Benjamin Netanyahu and now I can't stop thinking about it. |

BlackManta: This is why I need Superman to do well at the box office.
I need to see this dream come to life. The idea of multiple TV shows in one year doesn't sit well with me sha. Too much content could dilute the brand. Marvel did it with Disney+ and it backfired.
