bestofnollywood:
Some senior officials of the ministry of justice have been quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over suspicion of corruption in the compilation of the presidential pardon list.

President Muhammadu Buhari controversially pardoned Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame, two former governors currently serving jail terms for corruption, after getting the nod of the Council of State on April 15.

The council is made up of the president, vice-president, former heads of state, former chief justices, senate president, speaker, governors, and the attorney-general of the federation (AGF).

Based on the recommendation of the presidential prerogative of the mercy committee, Buhari submitted the names of 162 persons to the council for advice.

Based on the recommendation of the presidential prerogative of the mercy committee, Buhari submitted the names of 162 persons to the council for advice.

All, except Francis Atuche, former managing director of Bank PHB, and two others were approved.

There has been widespread criticism of the pardon and the full list of those pardoned is still being kept under wraps, although it was gathered that many convicted coup plotters made it.

Dariye and Nyame are yet to be released from prison weeks after the pardon, reportedly because of bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Sources at the ministry of justice said that several aides of Abubakar Malami, the AGF, who were responsible for the processing of the list are currently being investigated by the anti-graft agency.

“Of particular surprise is the inclusion of Atuche on the list that was submitted to the Council of State,” an official of the ministry said.

IgboExit:
Do you know why? These are the regions that the country is feeding fat on. And that is the very reason no one wants the regions to unite. That is also the reason they do not want political power for these regions. This is the reason for the animosity against Goodluck Jonathan and by extension, the reason they do not want the idea of Igbo presidency. Perhaps, coming from where all the nation's wealth are and also having political power will be too much for the parasitic to bear. It is the same reason why in 60 years, functional ports do not exist in Warri, Calabar and PHC. Parasites want the host healthy enough to keep feeding it but not strong enough to extirpate its parasitic activities.
Unfortunately, men like Saro Wiwa realized it too late. Perhaps, in a few years, the rest of the peoples of SE and SS will realize it. That unless, they wake up to the fact that there is no one country, but parasites and feeders. All SE and SS should seriously stop being fooled by the north controlling the wealth and the SW who are the scavengers after the north has eaten. Top feeders and scavengers never agree to change in status quo. Just think about it. Unity is possible but in the SE and SS. If divide and rule worked for the Bristish, why won't it work for Nigeria. It is a pity that even among the same tribe, people have been divided with a wicked state structure to weaken them. That's why the Igbo in Enugu no longer realizes that what affects the Igbo in Rivers affects him as kin. That's why Saro Wiwa could not muster more ethnic minorities to his cause. The division is just too much among Ndigbo and minorities in the South. This is what we must work to amend. It is a matter for survival.

South south can never join Igbo. God forbid.

AnonPoet:
Dear President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,

Let me start by wishing you a blessed Eid-el Fitri celebration. May the Almighty Allah receive your prayers and devotions, with blessings to you, your family and our nation, Nigeria.

Your Excellency, I write to you with a deep sense of passion, pure patriotism and good intent for Nigeria. As the days go by, we draw closer to the end of your administration. Nigerians will remember you for your strong will in governance, notable reforms across sectors, infrastructure, human and resourcedevelopment.

From the multibillion-naira funding for farmers, small-scale business owners and market women; to the payment of pension arrears owed staff of current and privatized/defunct Federal agencies; budget bail-out to states; revival of our hitherto moribund rail transport system; numerous road projects linking different parts of the country, including the 2nd Niger bridge; Nigerians recognize your efforts and contributions to nation building and the sanctity of our collective existence.

Mr. President, you have shown great leadership by not just steering the ship but also charting the course. Now, it is imperative that you “find a way to get much of your vision seen, implemented, and added to by others,” borrowing the words of top leadership thinker, John Maxwell. What better way to bow out with the legacy of having a good, capable, tested, trusted and experienced successor?

In the past weeks, we have seen declaration of interest in the Presidency from 35 politicians across board. Thisoverwhelming interest – the highest in Nigeria’s history, point to a widespread understanding of the high stakes and critical nature of our current political realities. There is no gainsaying that Nigeria’s survival and sustainability largely depends on who succeeds you as President.

Your Excellency, the next president must after careful assessment, be patriotic, proven to be of good standing, possess strong character and have the will to serve the Nigerian people, independent of any vested interests and influence. One person who easily embodies these qualities is your predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his antecedents readily show proof.

Through Dr. Jonathan’s economic policies and astute management, Nigeria grew to be ranked Africa’s largestand most diverse economy and 26th in the world in 2014 with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $510 billion in 2013 and foreign direct investment of over $25 billion. We believe that he has the potential to consolidate on these and your achievements to unleash economic growth that will reestablish Nigeria as an economic powerhouse.

It is also important to recall how Nigeria under his watch played its role as a leader amongst nations, supporting other African countries for sustainability. During the outbreak of the Ebola virus, the Nigerian government donated about $3.5 million in grants to West African countries to help ease the struggles of countries against the virus.

His reforms led Nigeria to significant strides in the road and rail developments nationwide, setting the tone for a multimodal transport system, with the revival of our moribund rail system, improvement in aviation infrastructure and the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of numerous road projects across the country.

Dr. Jonathan’s introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) in the financial sector, stands today as a novel innovation and one of the most significant and historic contributions in the fight against corruption in Nigeria. It is the bedrock of our centralized, efficient, transparent and accountable revenue and fiscal management system today. Similarly, the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) was also introduced during the Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2010, eroding institutional corruption and inefficiency in personnel records and fund administration, saving the country billions of naira.

Mr. President, away from his numerous achievements, one thing that stands Dr. Jonathan apart and above all others, is his appreciable and amiable personality. One cannot help but appreciate his rare character of peace and patriotism, beyond personal gains and ambition. I am sure Your Excellency still recalls the famous and historic phone call you received on Monday March 30, 2015 at about quarter past five in the evening. With that singular action, Dr. Jonathan ceded powers to you, congratulating you on your victory against him, even before the official announcement of results by the umpire, INEC. An incumbent, conceding defeat is a rare event and unheard of in African political history.

Years after that event, Dr. Jonathan has continued to maintained absolute decorum, not given to hate or any ploy/plot to undermine or distract your administration, with the verbal and legal tantrums that is the stuff of aggrieved politicians. One can only attribute this to the class, maturity and selflessness that makes the man.Instead, Dr. Jonathan has devoted his life to driving peace across the African continent, earning him recognitions as a “Hero of Democracy” and “Ambassador of Peace” across the globe.

Your Excellency, it is also clear that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s influence and acceptability transcends the political divide, thin ethnic and religious lines that have often proved volatile through our common existence. As such, supporting and endorsing him to succeed you as Nigeria’s president, would have tremendous impact on our currently threatened situation.

The time is now to make the bold step and leave Nigeria with the lasting legacy of a good, proven, trusted, capable and experienced successor, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Ayesolve:
Buhari Administration is the best administration in the History of Nigeria.
During Goodluck Jonathan administration food stuffs were cheap for the average Nigerian to buy and eat to get strength to fight Goodluck Jonathan's Government.
In this Buhari administration food stuffs are at hight cost and the average Nigerian is complaining that things are too cost to buy, so they don't have strength to fight lord Buhari's administration.
All they can give as an excuse now is that, during Goodluck Jonathan's Government crude oil price as not fallen, But in Buhari's administration crude oil price have fallen.
So no money to buy food to get strength to fight lord Buhari's administration.
[/s]

Foodstuffs were never cheap. Nigerians just have a very short memory. Selective amnesia is our problem

PoliticsPoliticians That Dont Have Any Business Contesting 2023 Presidency by blackpanda(op): 10:11am On May 03, 2022
This is my opinion

Under Nigerian Constitution, these guys below all have a right to contest for any office they so choose. But in my opinion, i dont think they should be considered for Nigerian Presidency at this time.

1. TINUBU
Tinubu in my opinion ranks amongst the most qualified in terms of pedigree, antecedents and political will. Regardless of all the alpha-beta brouhaha, i still think if this man was say in his 40s or 50s he would have that Presidential seat hands down. But unfortunately age and strength are not on his side. The truth is that Nigeria is one of the most difficult countries in the world to govern, with multiple cultures, interests and religious affiliations. This may just destroy the good intentions Tinubu may possess in the long run. Hes likely not capable of coping with the immense national problems on account of his health and age.

2. WIKE
I dont wish to insult anybody, but everybody knows Gov Wike does not appear mentally and psychologically strong enough to rule. Hes rash, immature and so quick to react to every single situation irrationally. Wike has no business in Asorock as far as i am concerned. It will be a huge disaster if he is elected. Wike will be like Mr Trump of America...disaster upon disaster, with no apologies!

3. OSHIOMOLE
Just like Wike Oshiomole appears also rash and irrational. These are people who dont think deeply before acting. They just expect everything to go the way they have planned. Same person that marketed obaseki as the best for the job under apc, turned around to market him as the worst under pdp. They also dont care about what the people think about them, making Oshiomole highly unfit for the Presidency.

4.YAHAYA BELLO
Now this Governor is perhaps one of the worst in Nigeria. Complete failure in governance and public finance management, allegedly. If you think Buhari didnt manage Nigeria's money too well, Yahaya Bello is likely billion times worse, going by the feelers from Kogi State where he is governor. Just forget about workers or payment of salaries or construction of anything. All monies will be diverted to his private account. As one of the youngest politicians/governors, Yahaya Bello calls to question the belief that it takes a young person to rule. He completely annihilates the "Not too young to rule" mantra!

5. ATIKU
What can be said of Atiku other than acute desperation, fraud cases and ability to use and dump (just as his ex wife Jennifer). As we speak this presidential hopeful still has fraud cases to face in the US. Obviously everybody should be ready for extreme poverty if Atiku wins. Well, everybody except his friends. Atiku is very very generous to his friends and well wishers. But a very bad match for Nigeria at this time.

6. SARAKI
Another person that need not smell the Presidential seat is Mr Saraki. Bukola Saraki is known for over-ambition, backstabbing and with a myriad of corruption cases against him. Kwara people have warned us severally against Mr Saraki. Though is is one of the relatively young aspirants, but from experience not a good fit for Nigeria, ever!
