PoliticsKidnapped Ex-army General Freed by blacksta(op): 3:42pm On Apr 25, 2009
The former General Officer Commanding, 1 Mechanised Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj-Gen. Peter Ademokhai (retd), has been released by his abductors.

Ademokhai, who spoke with journalists at his residence in GRA Benin, the Edo State capital, said he was released after an undisclosed amount was paid to his abductors. The retired general, who declined to state the amount, said his kidnappers treated him well.

Ademokhai said that one of the kidnappers told him that he had N60 million in his bank account. The retired general blamed the regulators of the banking system for not making laws to reveal the owners of bank accounts.

Ademokhai, who was looking ruffled, said he was kidnapped in the presence of his wife, adding, ”I felt as if I was in Somalia because Somalia is a failed state. I don‘t hate my abductors. I only hate the system that created them. They were so nice to me. They are my sons. They called me ‘daddy, daddy, daddy.‘ They said they did not like what they were doing but that they were driven into it by the system.”

Security sources had told our correspondent that the suspected abductors demanded N100m ransom for his release but that some members of his family offered them N20m. The retired general was kidnapped on Friday from his farm in the Ovia North East Local Government Area in Edo St.te.

kokoye:
The list goes on.

I have a relative who got his HND from Yabatech . . he got a job at a one room consulting firm while doing his PGD. He is now a manager with British American Tobacco.

I left the comfort of being a network engineer in Nigeria to do my masters here in the U.S. I did security work at night and went to school during the day. I could not get a job after school so I started doing customer service with several companies until I got into the one in my chosen career - one of the largest telecoms companies here.

By God's grace I am now a consultant with the same company - the only black man in the Knowledge Management team of 39.

I did not have to know anybody to get to this stage, and it wasnt all smooth as well. But keep ur eyes on the prize and you will get there.
lol

what do you mean that - i rather be in one room and earn millions that be large corporation that pay peanuts. I am sure you know or maybe you dont know, your friend got a job with BAT because she was working in a one room firm i am sure with better quality of work.

@labiyemmy:
People like us moved back, not waiting for the development of our field, but actually pioneering the development and earning money in the process - why do i have to wait for the development, why cant i spearhead that development? It is a case of what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you, if everyone waits till their field is developed, then, who will develop the country or how will the country develop then?
u read my mind - why not be a trend setter

Africa is the best place to be.
point of correction : Africa is best place for a skilled person who has witnessed or being part of a team or solely implemented solutions that have been tried and tested in the western world. That person is bound to make lots of money. Many of my friends that have moved back to Nigeria are doing exceptionally very well.

ProgrammingRe: Is Java Programming Harder Than Microsoft.net Programming by blacksta(m): 5:00pm On Apr 24, 2009
just to butress what linxon said

Java  is write once, run anywhere.  Writing Java code pretty much isolates you from the platform dependent aspects of the systems on which you deploy it. you also have to your disposal Massive java communities, the amount of help you can ever nedd , libraries, IDE's, is huge

ProgrammingRe: Please Post All Your Java Programing Questions Here. by blacksta(op): 4:50pm On Apr 24, 2009
As an object oriented programmer their are 4 principles or pillar you will need to understand and the rest is history

Pillar #1: Encapsulation
Pillar #2: Inheritance
Pillar #3: Polymorphism
Pillar #4: Abstraction - some argue you only have the 3 top pillars

would anybody please give defination for the above  - thanks

also thanks to Linxon ( wonderful example)

Hotmail the no 1 web based email program?

Meanwhile, the issue of broadband internet access cannot be a valid reason because majority of these companies developed software and solutions when broadband was almost non existent.

Patrick Obahiagbon : It is not the drivers of lorries and tankers who have brought pains to the Nigerian people , no rather it is the failure of government. Benin Ore lagos road today is in a state of calamity ,so if the state of road is in anomly, if driving through the road is gauging emadence culpability is that of government it will be sadonic it will be lugubrious and it will be state dishma pishma if parliament does not wright this morning to fix culpability where culpability is

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Is A Failing State:british All Party Parliamentary Group Report by blacksta(m): 2:42pm On Apr 24, 2009
Ilelobola:
Whilst I agree with their restating the obvious, perhaps this Parliamentary Group could also look inward at British MPs and how they reward themselves with 2nd home allowances and pay rises at the expense of tax payers. Sure they would do exactly the same as our leaders if they could get away with it.
You have no right to compare this instance with what happening back in Nigeria. Everything that the u.k Mps do, is in the confinement of the Law. I am sure you are aware that ab expenses reform is in progress. Please try and be clear not every MP claims this 2nd home allowance. This is my issue with people like you. You will never accept when an external body identifies ongoing issues which all of us have failed woefully to confront. you never know maybe the british government might help us do something about our dire situation as we all still waiting for God to do something.
