10-year-old boy commits suicide

RESIDENTS of Alajiki Street, Apata Area in Ibadan, Oyo State, were thrown into confusion and sorrow on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 when the body of a 10-year-old primary six pupil, Segun Omotayo, was found hanging in a room inside a dilapidated building beside his parents’ residence.

According to information gathered, Segun, who was a pupil of a primary school at Apata, returned from school that afternoon and thereafter went to the neighbourhood with his friends to watch home video after taking his lunch.

He reportedly came back home and went inside the dilapidated building which once served as home to his family before it was vacated when a part of it collapsed during a heavy rain and part of the roof also got blown off.

Segun’s mother, Mrs Omotayo, who had converted part of the dilapidated building to a poultry and also had a grinding machine in front of it, started looking for Segun around 7.30 p.m. with the intention of giving him some chores to do.

When she checked their apartment and did not see him, the woman decided to check the abandoned building, where the family still had some of their belongings in a room.

Her search eventually led her to the room where she found Segun’s body dangling from the ceiling while the chair he climbed to commit the act was found lying on its side.

The woman raised the alarm and neighbours trooped out to behold the shocking sight.

The matter was reported at Apata police station on Friday morning and the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ganiyu Ali dispatched some detectives to the scene.

The corpse was brought down from the ceiling while its photographs were taken.

The boy did not leave any suicide note but some people suspected that the boy must have been on an adventure as a result of the scenes he might have watched from the film he went to watch with friends.

However, a police source said a foul play was being suspected as a blood stain was found on the deceased’s chest.

The police image maker in Oyo State, ASP Femi Okanlawon confirmed the story, saying the boy’s parents and some witnesses had been invited by the police to help in the investigations towards unravelling the cause of the deceased’s action.

An increasing number of land deals are displacing farmers and leaving poor communities homeless, campaigning charity Oxfam has warned.

It says up to 227m hectares (560m acres) have been sold or leased worldwide since 2001.

Half of all deals that have been verified are in Africa, amounting to an area the size of Germany - 35m hectares, Oxfam says.

Vulnerable communities in Uganda and South Sudan have been affected.

The report also focuses on Honduras, Guatemala and Indonesia.

'Frenetic competition'

The organisation's Chief Executive, Barbara Stocking, said the "blinkered scramble" for land by investors was ignoring the needs of those who live on the land and depend upon it for their survival.

"Many of the world's poorest people are being left worse off by the unprecedented pace of land deals and the frenetic competition for land."

Oxfam says that among the worst affected by these so-called land grabs are women, who despite producing up to 80% of food in some poor countries, are often more vulnerable as they have weaker land rights.

"Investors, no matter how noble they pertain to be, cannot sweep aside the needs and rights of poor communities who depend on the land they profit from," she said.

The organisation said that land grabs had accelerated especially since 2008, when soaring prices highlighted the issue of food security.

It said an increasing demand for food, combined with climate change and the increase of agricultural land being used to grow biofuels, meant that the number of such deals would be likely to only rise in the future.

It called on the EU to scrap its target of obtaining 10% transport fuels from renewable sources by 2020 - which has fuelled the planting of crops for biofuels - and asked investors and governments to implement policies to ensure land deals are fair and those affected are properly consulted.

Woman kidnaps friend's one-week old baby

Comfort Oseghale

A 38-year-old petty trader, Blessing Emmanuel, is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for kidnapping a one-week old baby boy.

Emmanuel was said to have abducted the baby from his mother, Felicia Sunday, while she was asleep at her home in Delta State. The two women were friends.

A source said, "Emmanuel has been twice divorced and married for 15 years without a child. It was her inability to conceive that led to the breakup of her two previous marriages. When she learnt that Sunday had been delivered of a baby, it was an opportunity for her to get the child she never had."

Setting her plans in motion, Emmanuel left her N0 28 Church Street, Ajangbadi, Lagos residence and travelled to Sunday's home in Delta State under the pretext of helping her friend. One day, while Sunday was asleep, she quickly abducted the baby and fled back to Lagos. To the surprise of Emmanuel's neighbours, the cries of a baby could now be heard frequently from the direction of Emmanuel's apartment. It was an incident she bluntly refused to discuss with anyone.

Her neighbours told CRIME DIGEST that the bubble burst when Emmanuel's friends refused to accept her explanations. A source said, "We learnt that it was her friends - Comfort and Esther - who contacted the police when Emmanuel couldn't give a satisfactory explanation about how she came about the baby, who was constantly crying." Emmanuel was subsequently arrested on August 14, 2011. After an initial statement that the baby had been bought for N150,000, she eventually confessed to abducting the baby from its mother.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Samuel Jinadu, when contacted, confirmed the incident. He said, "The mother of the child has been contacted as to the whereabouts of her missing child. The law will take its course at the conclusion of our investigation."

A gang of armed robbery suspects, numbering about 15, on Friday engaged the police in a gun battle after a robbery operation in Ilasamaja, Lagos, leaving two of the robbers dead.

The robbers had raided several residential houses on Alhaji Yahya and Gbadamasi streets when the police patrol team came in a van and ordered the men of the underworld out of the area.

A source at Ilasamaja Police Station told our correspondent that the robbers, most of who were teenagers, had opened fire when they saw that the police were closing in on them.

The source said, "The police immediately responded; the robbers fled but two of them were hit by our bullets and they could not run away."

He said one of the robbers that were shot by the police died instantly and the other passed away a few minutes later at the police station.

Before the second criminal died, he was said to have confessed that they (robbers) came from Mushin and Sango.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the robbery suspects had had a field day, moving from one house to another between 1 am and 2 am before the police arrived.

One of their victims, who gave his name simply as Ishola, said the robbers were young men in their early 20s.

Ishola, who claimed the robbers had 'visited' their house twice in three weeks, said they came with school bags strapped to their backs. He said they moved from house to house, collecting money and cell-phones, as well as laptop computers and other valuables.

Ishola said the robbers unleashed terror on any of their victims that claimed not to have money at home.

He said, "They slapped me when I told them that I did not have cell-phones, having just lost them to robbers.

"They picked my baby from the bed and held him up with one hand, threatening to kill him when news came that the police were around. They immediately dropped the child and fled the room."

The Divisional Police Officer of Ilasamaja, Mr. Abass Ochogwu, confirmed the incident, and urged the members of the public to always give the police information whenever they suspected any criminal move or action.

He said that he had given his telephone numbers and those of his senior officers to the community leaders.

The Nzam Community in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State has made available a 10 kilometre-square of land (about 2,590 hectares) to the Federal Government for the location of a university of agriculture and other agro-allied ventures.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Awka, the Nzam Community's spokesman, Dr Chinedu Anachuna, said the conveyance of the land title had been forwarded to the Federal Government already.

He said the letter to President Goodluck Jonathan stating the intention of the community was duly signed by the traditional ruler of Nzam, Igwe Paul N Okolo, the President General of Nzam Town Union, Chief Lawrence Egwuatu, and the Ezeudo of Ogbe, Chief Emma Akubueze.

The community said the condition for giving out the land was for it to be used for a university of agriculture, explaining that it had sufficient land for extension, farm settlement and extension services.

Anachuna said the land was given to the Federal Government as a special appreciation to President Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

He noted that the donation by the Nzam community was unprecedented in the South East as some communities would easily resist the acquisition of their lands for development purposes.

He appealed to the Federal Government to acknowledge the letter of donation by Nzam community and start work on the land as it would serve as a way of opening up the community.

He noted that a sketch plan showing the parcel of land in allotment A 10 square miles, verged red unsealed at the moment was enclosed in the letter dispatched for their perusal.

Anachuna further commended Governor Peter Obi for remembering the people of Anambra North with developmental projects since creation of the state.

Eleven years ago, in 2000, Elizabeth Aisien, CEO, Beth Modelling Agency, won the Miss Nigeria-UK Pageant. After her reign ended, she returned home to set up her outfit as a platform for grooming young girls to achieve their dream of becoming professional models.

Ex-Miss Nigeria UK

advertisement

Penultimate week, she held an event at the Civic Centre in Lagos to showcase 14 girls who participated in the Elite Model contest. In this interview she talks about this and other issues relating to her career. Excerpts…

What would you say was the important benefit you got from the Miss Nigeria-UK pageant?

Miss Nigeria UK brought me out. Then I was really shy, I couldn’t wear bikini. I was really shaken but I met a lot of people and it created a part of the business that I’m doing right now.

What is the story behind Elite Models?

As Miss Nigeria UK, I used to come back home on holidays and people were inviting me to model for them. When I was in London I had an agency that I worked with. By the time I started looking for modeling agencies to work with, I realized there was none. I was so disappointed, this was in 2004.

So, I went back to London, did a bit of work and decided to come back and set up a modeling agency to help a lot of our young ones. My main reason for doing this is to help. It is not the money. When you consider it, you will see that we don’t make much money from it. Most of these girls that come to my office cry that they want to become models. That is what we’ve been doing, trying to make their dreams come true.

How do you cope as a mother?

Being a mother is fun, its fantastic. Even though I am so busy now, I still look forward to see my baby every night, spend time with her. I also make sure I bathe her morning and night. Having her is a blessing and the most beautiful thing ever.

Now, you are a career woman and nursing mother. Any tips for juggling both?

So far, it has been good though I must confess that it has not been easy, but my husband has been very supportive. He is always with our daughter most of the time and at night we spend time together. The key thing is to find a way to create a balance between the demands of one’s career with the needs of the family. Of course there are challenges, but one has to rise up to them.

How has marriage changed you? What is the difference between being single and married?

There is a lot of difference. When you are married there are certain things you can do and there are certain things you can’t do. Being a wife to someone means that the person is someone you would stay with for the rest of your life. So you have to make the person your best friend.

How did you meet your husband?

We met here in Nigeria and it’s a long story. I met my husband through a mutual friend. As a girl, you have to do all those ‘shakara’. I believe you really get to know the person you want to marry and know if both of you can understand each other. We had seen each other a few times, and then one day he called me on the phone. He said he wanted to do a few things with models. He is into wines and spirits and from there we started talking. I decided to accept his marriage proposal because I knew he was the one I was going to spend the rest of my life with. These things are natural. You meet someone and you know this is who you want to be with for the rest of your life.

What kind of person is he?

He is a very supportive person. He is romantic, very understanding, very caring and he always sponsors my events.

Most husbands don’t know the size of their wives’ shoes. Does he?

He knows everything. He buys most of my things like lingerie and all other stuff.

What are the things you do to keep your husband?

Number one is just prayers and no matter what it is you put God in your family first. Once you do that everything will fall into place. Without God, there’s no husband, there is no wife, and there is no family. My advise to everyone who is married is to just put your husband into prayers first.

How do you cope with male admirers?

I don’t have admirers. The only admirer I have is my husband. Well, there may be men who secretly may be admiring me, I don’t know. Once you are married you don’t see anything again. And once they come near me, I show them my rings and they run away.

What of the persistent guys?

They can’t be desperate with me. I know how to dissuade them. I tell them I’m married, and firmly say, I am sorry I can’t have any conversation with you.

What is the secret of your nice post-childbirth physique?

Because of my work. I reduced the amount of carbohydrate I eat nowadays. Besides, work has kept me busy. I am on my toes 24 hours. I watch what I eat.

What was it like growing up?

My childhood was filled with fun. I grew up with my mother, who raised me to become who I am today. My mum has always loved modeling, she loves Naomi Campbell, and she’s always glued to Fashion TV. My mother is the whole thing behind me. She’s always pushing me. When I was younger, she was sometimes ask me: are you sure you are not going to be a model? She’s glad today that I run a modeling agency.

What is the secret of your glowing skin?

I haven’t changed that much, I use the same cream. I’m a very simple person. I’m not one of those that carry bags of makeup.

Its like you are more relaxed being married than single?

Oh yes. I pray to God everyday and I know He answers my prayers. People know that marriage is not an easy thing. There is no marriage that doesn’t have an issue, it’s really how you control your marriage and put God ahead of everything, if you are having problem in your marriage you put God first and everything falls in place.

Why did you wed in London when your fans are here?

My husband and I grew up in London. All our friends were there. We decided to do something for our friends in Nigeria first, which was our traditional wedding. Almost 2,000 people attended the event while we had 300 people at our church wedding in London.

What can’t you wear and what can you wear?

You can’t catch me with a turban. I don’t know why. I don’t believe a woman should cover her hair. I think we all have beautiful natural hair. I love to be simple and classy. I love dressing up, and I love shoes.

I’m a shoe freak. I just keep buying new pairs, some of which I don’t even wear. Only recently, I went to a shop and saw a pair of shoes I liked, but my niece reminded me that I had not worn the one I bought a few weeks ago. Everyone has got his or her style. I like anything that makes me feel comfortable, anything simple and classy. I’m a simple person. My favorite colors are black, white and green.

These men are nothing but r.a.p.i.s.t in waiting and I cry for their victims now. They have no business including a crime evidence with their private indecency collection unless they themselves are entertaining the idea of crime.

Our angels are whores
By Emmanuel Onwubiko

Miss Precious is a teenager who has just left one of the public secondary schools in the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory. Although she is so young that she has yet to start making extensive use of cosmetics to beautify her face and other parts of her skin, but she is such a beauty to behold so much so that you cannot help but notice her whenever she passes by because of some rare divine endowments that mark her out as a very attractive girl.

advertisement

On a particular busy working day that I sat at the lobby bar of one of the most patronized five star hotels in the nation’s capital, Miss Precious approached me to seek for financial assistance.

At first glance at her, a thought flashed through my mind in shock of what would have brought this very young girl to a lobby bar so well frequented by business executives, politicians and other classy set of Nigerians that have one business or social meeting or the other to do.

But at a second look at this ravishingly beautiful girl before me revealed that her dress sense gave her out as a girl from a well organized and morally up-right home because of the fact that she was decently dressed. My genuine attempt to find out from her what would have made her to visit the lobby bar of this busy hotel was the tonic this apparently innocent looking girl needed to begin prolonged session of emotional outburst and weeping.

Every attempt I made to pacify this ‘strange angel’ before me yielded little in return as she intensified her wailing but my subtle threat to invite the security made her to stop crying and to open up to me by educating me on her travails.

The long and short of her story is that she was brought to the hotel by an elderly man who is her family friend on the instruction of her single mother who is in her early thirties and is a junior staff working under this elderly man who is a director in one of the juicy ministries in the Federal Capital Territory. Miss Precious told me in graphic details how her mother forced her to go home with this ‘big man’ but that on reaching the hotel room, the man sought to have carnal knowledge with her through what to her is unnatural and un-African way but her refusal made the man to send her away without any transportation fare back home.

Because I have encountered dozens of ‘crying strangers’ of the opposite sex who often come up with cock –and- bull stories all in an attempt to extort some cash from me, I took her story with a pinch of salt.

But the narrative of Miss Precious appeared genuine and credible particularly because I asked her to take a seat while I made extensive enquiry from credible sources in the hotel regarding the identity of the occupant of the room number she disclosed and I found out that her story was factual and fairly accurate.

I demanded that she gave me her mother’s phone contact but she turned it down with the excuse that she would be severely victimized and brutalized if the mother found out that she did not only disobey her diabolical instruction to pass the night with her boss but she was bold enough to report her ordeals to a human rights and development practitioner.

I gave her some money and also some vital phone contacts of the Abuja head office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Person and other related matters (NAPTIP), so she can make formal complaints about her unfortunate ordeals in the hands of her biological mother who has converted her to a domestic sex worker.

I am so much concerned that our beautiful daughters who are angels in their own right are being converted into whores by the atmosphere of unprecedented feminization of poverty in Nigeria. This trend is indeed a very dangerous development, which will adversely affect the respect and promotion of the fundamental human rights of our young adult girls. I am also aware that some young adult boys have also started the illicit trade of homosexuality for commercial benefits in some of our cities but the involvement of young adult girls in prostitution has become gravely worrisome.

Before settling down to write this piece, I commissioned two female undergraduates at the University of Abuja and the Abia State University to source informed materials on this trend. My resource persons who are third year law undergraduates painted very graphic pictures and told me gory tales of the large scale involvement of a great number of female students in prostitution all in a bid to meet up with some expenses in the campus and to also raise the needed cash to sort out some of their lecturers who have decided to institutionalize financial extortion as one strategy of improving their living condition as teachers.

To underscore the grave danger caused by this deepening social ill, the Women Affairs’ ministries of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States engaged in serious media warfare recently over allegation of infiltration of young female prostitutes into Calabar from the sister Akwa Ibom State. The Cross River State Commissioner for Women Affairs was reported in the media to have raised the alarm that the state capital is under attack from young females of Akwa Ibom origin who are engaged in the illicit business of selling their flesh to men of easy virtue. The Akwa Ibom State Women Affairs’Commissioner refuted the allegation that the young female prostitutes who invaded Cross River State are of Akwa Ibom State origin.

Another source of worry is that for nearly a decade since the emergence of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Person and other related matters, (NAPTIP), that important organ of government has failed spectacularly to implement result-oriented awareness programme to stop the spread of trafficking in persons and to effectively enforce punitive laws against the upsurge of involvement of our younger females in commercial sex activities.

Why has this very important institution not made it a point of duty to domicile their roving investigators and law enforcement officers to popular hotels in cities across the country to check the upsurge in the involvement of young female adults like Miss. Precious in the illicit trade of prostitution even against their will?

The trafficking in persons (prohibition) law enforcement and administration Act of 2003 as amended is replete with punitive provisions for offenders but this law has had little impact because of weak implementation.

That our angels have become whores was revealed in a recent news report by Champion newspaper of June 20th 2010 that some teen girls hawk sex in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for family up-keep.

Ademola Kazeem Fayemi of the Department of Philosophy, Lagos State University said only attitudinal change and the enforcement of radical economic empowerment programmes for the female gender that can reduce the involvement of younger females in prostitution.

According to Fayemi; “It is clear that massive ethical re-orientation of the immorality of prostitution and human trafficking together with their hazardous effects are needed in order to educate women about their positions, the true causes of their plight, the potentialities of overcoming them and realistic modalities for effecting change.”

I believe that institutions such as NAPTIP and the federal and state Ministries of Women Affairs must wake up to their statutory mandates so as to stamp out this ugly trend of involvement of our young female adults in commercial sex activities.

THE United Nations (UN) is set to initiate a counter-terrorism implementation task force in Nigeria by November, to educate and make terrorism less attractive to the youth. President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed this in New York, United States, on Wednesday, in his presentation at the ongoing UN General Assembly debate.

He told the gathering that Nigeria would continue to work with the UN and other partners in the global fight against terrorism, adding that to this end, Nigeria was working closely with the UN Counter Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF), the Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED), as well as relevant international bodies and friendly countries, to sharpen its response mechanisms.

According to him, "in this connection, the UN CTIFT will be launching its first project in Abuja in November 2011, aimed at conflict prevention and countering the appeal of terrorism to youths, through education and dialogue."

He reiterated the determination of the country to work with all stakeholders, as it enlarged and intensified its partnership.

Jonathan said as part of Nigeria's efforts to fight terrorism, he had signed into law the Terrorism (Prevention) Bill 2011 and the Anti-Money Laundering (Prohibition) Amendment Act on June 3.

"The new laws not only outlined measures for the prevention and combating of acts of terrorism, but also prohibit the financing of terrorism and laundering of the proceeds of crime," he said.

Speaking on the the issue of trafficking in small arms and light weapons, the president said if the UN's idea of resolving conflicts through mediation was to succeed, the problem of trafficking in small arms and light weapons must be frontally tackled.

National chairman of Urhobo Strategic Group, Mr. Festus Arhagba, has said that since Delta Central and South have had their share of the governorship of Delta State, Delta North will produce the next governor of the state in 2015.

Arhagba, in a statement, said that he had earlier warned Deltans on the vanity of the Ogboru petitions in the 2007 election and the negative implications of Urhobo aligning with Ogboru and the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP.

He said: "I am sure that Delta North Senatorial District will produce the next governor of Delta State in 2015, because Delta Central and South senatorial districts have had their share of the governorship for eight years apiece. I stated clearly that none of the petitions against Governor Uduaghan will succeed because the calculations were not in favour of Ogboru.

"You have a lot to gain when you support a credible person from another district. You cannot produce the governor all the time. Delta State is multi-ethnic, so we should use common sense and understanding to handle our issues."

Thursday, September 22, 2011
The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has said the solution to Boko Haram upsurge and Jos crisis lies in a better communication among the religious, political and traditional leaders.

advertisement

Okorocha, who spoke to some international journalists on the sideline of the just concluded economic summit on Business in Nigeria at Washington DC, USA, said: “There must be a forum of people with different faith and belief to interact as a way of dousing rumours and other issues likely to cause disaffection and breach of peace in all the communities resident in Jos.”

He described Jos crisis as an unfortunate situation and called for a peace rally to unite all the warring groups that had lived together in Jos and to further heal ethnic hostilities that had destroyed the fabrics of unity in the state.

“Leaders must come together to solve this problem. Jos used to be a peaceful city where different ethnic groups lived and did businesses together. We should work to return Jos to what it used to be in the past,” . Okorocha said.

The governor also canvassed for more security measures to be put in place to ensure adequate protection of lives and property to end the unwarranted killings of innocent citizens by the groups that had infiltrated the city. He added that the issue of Boko Haram should concern all well-meaning Nigerians, stating that suicide bombing and terrorism were alien to the nation.

“Nigerians are not terrorists; Nigerians respect lives and what is happening today as regards to Boko Haram is alien to our culture and religion,” Okorocha said.

Another panacea to the Boko Haram security threat, he said, would be the provision of jobs for the unemployed youths in the country.

Okorocha, however, disclosed that his administration had put in place policies to revive all moribund industries in the state to create more jobs.

He called for the support of the people to enable his administration achieve its objectives, even as he expressed optimism on the fulfillment of promises by international investors to assist and support his government.

The Home Office's ability to deport individuals who have committed crimes may be curtailed by a European court judgment banning the removal of a Nigerian man convicted of violation.

The Strasbourg court ruled that the 24-year-old man, known as AA, would have his right to family life "violated" if he was sent back to Nigeria. He lives with his mother, a nurse, in England.

In its finding, the court declared: "The applicant's deportation from the United Kingdom would be disproportionate to the legitimate aim of the 'prevention of disorder and crime' and would therefore not be necessary in a democratic society."

How much of a precedent the case will set was not immediately clear. The man was convicted of violation at the age of 15 but parole reports showed he had responded "positively" to rehabilitation and was subsequently deemed to pose a low risk of reoffending.

Welcoming the decision, the Aire Centre, the legal centre which took the case to the European court of human rights, described it as a "resounding victory". The young man has obtained both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the UK since leaving school, it said.

A spokeswoman added: "There has been the most spectacular rehabilitation of a juvenile offender. The blanket approach [to deportation] taken by the UK was totally inappropriate."

The Home Office did not comment immediately on the judgment. Last year about 5,000 "foreign national criminals" were deported from the UK at the end of their sentences.

In its judgment, the court explained: "The fact that the applicant was a minor when he committed the offence does not preclude his deportation given the seriousness of the offence in question.

"[But that] consideration must be carefully weighed against the applicant's exemplary conduct and, as the evidence before the court demonstrates, commendable efforts to rehabilitate himself and to reintegrate into society over a period of seven years.

"In such circumstances, the [UK] government are required to provide further support for their contention that the applicant can reasonably be expected to cause disorder or to engage in criminal activities such as to render his deportation necessary in a democratic society.

"However, the government have neither cited other relevant concerns nor submitted any documents capable of supporting such a contention.http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/2011/sep/20/uk-deport-nigerian-european-court

Senator David Mark is a unifying force and exactly the quality of leadership Nigeria needs to produce in 2015 to maintain our unity, peace and progress.

“We come from different constituencies but we are united in our quest for the provision of basic needs like electricity, food, good health, roads, education, security of lives and property, shelter and transport system.
“Our federation and economy need strengthening. Our youths need jobs. To achieve these; we need appropriate laws and legislation,” he said.

Senate President David Mark is an advocate of a radical budgeting system that would ensure effective implementation of Appropriation Acts, and put an end to the perennial excuses of inability to implement budget.

He emphasised that “our budget system needs a radical change. There is a need for collaboration between the executive arm of government and the National Assembly to ensure that Nigerians get a budget that can be effectively implemented.”

According to him, “we need to be transformational in depth and content of our work, legislative representation and oversight functions. Our legislative agenda is enormous”http://www.nigeriaa2z.com/2011/06/27/mark-lists-agenda-for-7th-senate/
