some one going to US for a conference, can he update his status without getting married there?
Must he join an association before going?
reply urgently

Not necessary you join an association.

But joining an association similar to the conference you want to attend gives your Visa application more validity. (read the thread again i made mention of how i got my Visit Visa).

Hello uncle BJ.

Just bumped into this thread yesterday and i must confess it's content filled, for most of us without a silver spoon, the hustle is what we are called out for.

Please i have few questions i will like to ask, have read this thread from start to finish like my life depends on it, but then, you are the the boss here.

Can one get interns placement as nigerian and from nigeria?

The summer work time for nigeria from the table you shared is from june-oct, must this time frame be followed considering the inconsistency in our education system.

What do you think about the AU pair category in the j1 visa? Is it viable and possible especially for people from nigeria.

Does one need school i.d or transcript to apply for the summer work category, cause this is my final year in a nigeria uni and the calender is so tight, no holiday till we graduate by august ( by God's grace)

Also, apart from flight and visa application fees, can you state an amount needed to maintain oneself till one starts work.

Also, for the summer ish, how does one get accommodation?

Sorry if i am asking too many questions but i was actually at the verge of canadian skilled Lab. Stuff before now and i think i should run one or two stuff here before i finally go there if i get approved.

This is cause from all you have said here, it seems getting a permanent residence permit is very difficult in US, i think canada will be better but their weather is something i think about alot.

Thanks as i await your response!!

I have never met anyone from Africa (except maybe south Africa) that applied from any African country

Yes, you have done your assignment. It is from June to October and it is strictly followed. it is not the Department of state's or US Embassy's problem about the inconsistency in our Education Calendar

Also, you will need transcript. It is one of the requirement. They want to see you are doing well in school (it is part of what will make you return to your home country or country of residence). Most of the time, embassy do not even check your transcript. They don't even ask you any interview related question. they just tell you when to pick up your visa. The Sponsored organizations will do their own pre screening interview and make sure you are qualified to receive the Visa. The most important thing of the program is that the agency issues you the documents you need to take to the embassy.

You will be required to have at least 1000usd with you (not compulsory. my first time in the US few years ago, i had around 260$ with me)

you sort out flight yourself and the visa fees. you already paid the sponsored organizations fees including insurance. The organization sorts out accommodation for you (they are responsible for you so they have to take care of you). You have within some certain days to travel once your visa is issued. Also, most of the time, you start work immediately. the first time i came here on the program, i started work plus training (prep cook) the next day (no time grin)

The major problem with Nigeria and almost all African countries is that the sponsored organizations listed on the Department of States website do not have any branch offices or partners in African countries. This is one of the advantage i got while living in the Caribbean (it is one of the advantages Nurses, doctors and other health professionals get working in the Caribbean. they easily get jobs in western countries). The sponsored organization are suppose to interview you, make sure you are qualified, do pre-screening before issuing you the documents you need to take to the embassy. Embassy interview is the least of the requirement. If you get the documents from the organizations, then you will most likely get the visa.

Also, i will encourage you to look more into canada. Like i always say, doesn't matter what weather. Choose a country that will give you Permanent residency over country you will need to renew visa over and over.

form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative

My Mistake

People, see it is I-129F.

you can start looking into the form and what you need even before you meet your supposed fiance or something. Just to get an idea of what you need.

BJ walking away from guy M cool

yeah, it was exactly like this.

guy R was running after me shouting my name "Chucks, chucks.."

guy M was shocked i told him to F off. He was dazed and tried to get himself together grin

and here i am few days later still working with them.

guy M was too stubborn to call me back and apologize.
i was acting too stubborn to call him back that i still need the job (it's not like i can work anywhere else for now anyways grin)

guy R was mad at guy M and was blaming him for letting an awesome worker they have ever had go. he probably told him he will stop working if i don't come back.

so, guy R called me. apologized to me, tell me not to listen to guy M again and talked about how ignorant and self centered he can be. say i should deal with him directly for now. told me to come to work the next day. I replied that i will think about it ( i don't wanna be too desperate and sound like my life depends on the job)
The next day, i showed up and guy M has been exceptionally nice to me since then. grin grin. He is still the boss, however, i don't really deal with him anymore. he can be annoying

Update
-------------

You know I told you I went for a diagnostic scan on my car and the autoplace gave me this below

code p1273 and code p1444 and the workshop recommended the following to be changed

RR Valve Cover Gasket $35
02 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 $198.89
Bank 1 exhaust Manifold $349.89
Exhaust Gaskets to drop exhast pipe $45

He the charged me 1000$ for repairs making the whole price to be above $1600

So I posted my issue on a car forum and a specialist replied me. He said the following:

The 02 Sensor on RockAuto is $40.. That's a HELL of a mark up. Unless that is the cost to replace it too. And the Manifold is only $120, Again I am assuming those prices do NOT reflect installation. And the Valve cover Gasket is $5...

So either you buy all these parts and pay to get them installed or you do it yourself

Now compare the prices.

Lesson Learnt? Oyinbo too dey Scam, Scam/Fraud/Deceit is not associated to a particular country

grin grin grin. Brother, yiu just find out say oyinbo sef dey "hustle" people.

A lot of things i have learned to do it myself. And as for mechanics, experience have taught me to get 2nd and 3rd quote from another Auto place. Those guys can bankrupt person. grin. This is part of the reason my wife wants me to buy a brand new car. She say old car no dey last amd dey give too much problems. Old car to her is 2013 cars and below. grin

Can a brother (USC) above 50 years old, file for a sister (and her husband) above 40 years old? undecided

Yes, the category will be "Married family of a USC"

According to US immigration, relative includes parents, siblings (direct brothers and sisters)

I have to tell you though. For Married siblings, it is a painstaking long process, it can take over 10 years before priority date becomes current.

Whether F or C ....the degree of hot or cold remains the same. Its all about the metric system the country decides to adopt. I hated F back in school for Physics. To convert from F to C, deduct 32, then multiply by 5, then divide by 9 (C = (F-32)*5/9) and from C to F multiply by 9, then divide by 5, then add 32 (F = (C*9/5) + 32 grin ...too much calculations shei? Stick to your C jaaaare. Happy Sunday. God is with you.

I hated F. I have conditioned my mind to water freezong at 0degreesC and boiling at 100degreesC. That's how i judge what the weather is like. F doesn't make mich sense to me.

Happy sunday to you too and thank you.

look at another one

This morning I called USCIS to check on my green card and they told me it was approved!!! I went for my interview on December 12th, we got there 30 min early, we were waiting for about 45 min before we got called in. She put us under oath, she started by asking our full names, address. She then asked me for my passport, I told her it was expired, she said it was ok, and she informed me she was going to keep my I-94, she asked for my husbands ID and birth certificate. She then asked for all joint evidence we had, we gave her our kids birth certificate, our joint lease, joint bank account statement, joint credit card, joint heath insurance. She asked to see pictures, and we showed her the pictures of our kids, she said they are so cute and she said that’s the best part of her job to look at the pictures. She then asked me to pick 4 to 5 pictures that would go on my file, she complimented me on my organization because I had everything nice and organized by the order she was asking for it. After that she became very serious and told us she needed details about our relationship, dates and everything. So she asked when we met, when we got married which was June 2013, she asked why did we take so long to file for the green card, she asked why did I overstayed my tourist visa, if I had intentions of getting married before I came to the USA, what did I like about my husband, what I didn’t like about my husband, when was our last fight and what did we fight about, why did I say yes when he proposed. She then told me she was gonna ask my husband some questions and that I couldn’t answer for him, she asked him why did he proposed so soon, why did he wanted to marry me, what did he like about me, and what he didn’t like about me, if he was married before. After that she asked the yes or no questions on the application, she said everything looked good, and she didn’t need any more documents from us, but she did not make a decision about my case on the spot, she made a copy of my B1/B2 visa and took my I-94 and waked us out. And today I finally got the update over the phone that on December 15th they ordered my green card to be produced and my case was approved!

Me and my husband have been married for over 4 years, we have 2 boys.
We didn’t know how the process worked at all, so we sent our I-130 back in 2015, which was approved within 6 months.
We sent the package with I-485 on March 1st 2017
Case received: 03/03/17
EAD: June 2017 (got a job as soon as I got my EAD)
Case was never ready to be scheduled, it went from fingerprint fee received to interview scheduled.
On November 7th they scheduled my interview for December 12th.
No RFEs, No lawyer.
I would like to thank everyone on this group for all the support, and the stories shared, it helped us a lot. If anybody need any help feel free to message me, and I will help as I can. My field office is Holtsville NY.

This is the time to be prayerful. There is now a lot of anti immigration sentiment permeating through every sector in this country. Most of their questions will focus on what you told the officers at the point of entry and the duration between your arrival and meeting your wife.If what you say does not jell well in their ears they will deny you ,issue a deportation order and transfer you to ICE pending appeal. The last person i helped complete his application had like 5 people before him denied that day in their USCIS new York office. Its not like before again

Thank you bro.

There has always been anti immigration sentiments. it has however been crazy the past 2 years (with DACA and Visa lottery, chain immigration etc)

People have always been denied their green card application during interview. it has nothing to do with the heightened anti immigration sentiments. There are several factors involved. Like i said, i don't know how people that do "arrangee marriage" get through. The whole process is hard enough for genuine couples. So imagine how hard it is for people trying to pass as genuine. they can ask any question, ridiculous questions that only couples will know.

So, to everyone trying "arrangee". I am not for or against you, i do however want to let you know that you have a lot to loose. and i wish you what you wish yourself.

look at the example of what they ask and you will see why they will get any arrangee couples

First he asked for my ID and if our attorney would be joining. Since we decided to not have our attorney involved for the interview portion of the process, we both needed to sign a document waiving our right to an attorney. After that was signed, he asked me to raise my right hand and put me under oath. The first order of business was for me to submit any new evidence that we previously did not include in our original application. I brought bank statements, cell phone bills, our 2015 tax return, airfare tickets and hotel reservations from trips taken together, and photos. He only took a small sampling of documents because he didn’t want to make our file too thick and thanked me for being so organized.

Next, he started asking questions like what my husband’s name is, his date of birth, his cell phone number, and the address where we reside. He then asked how we met, when we first met, when was our first date, and when we met each other’s families all while taking notes in our file. Officer Lee was incredibly personable and genuinely interested in our story. He did a great job of putting me at ease, but still acted very professional. I felt as if we were simply having a conversation about my husband. The unique questions that I believe no one can “prepare for” or expect involved details that only a truly married couple who live together would know. He had me reconfirm our most current address and then asked how many bedrooms and bathrooms there are. He asked if we had a washer and dryer and if so, where they are located in our home. He also asked if either of us took daily medications or vitamins. I immediately answered, “No. Oh wait–I take that back. I actually take probiotics at night.” He followed up with, “Are those kept on your nightstand?” and I told him where I store them. After I answered him I started to second-guess myself and think, “Oh man, Kristina. Sean is never going to know that. It’s such a minute detail and there’s no way he’s noticed that you take probiotics–let alone where you keep them in the house. You should’ve just stayed with the plain no answer.” After that Officer Lee told me that he was going to fetch Sean from the waiting room and that I was welcome to remain in his office during Sean’s portion of the interview as long as I did not say anything directly to Sean or communicate with him in any way.

Haha, north America uses F not C for temp. measurement, you can change that from your phone setting so as to get the correct weather status.

lol, i still don't understand the F that much. C is easier. 8degreesC tells me that is it cold but not bad. 0degreesC and below tells me that if is freaking cold and toes can go numb. That F might be 13degrees and when you go out, it is like batshit crazy!!!

The number one qualifying condition for getting that visa is that you must have met the American citizen at least once .Unfortunately most American women are not willing to travel down to Nigeria for that due to our penchant for turning into a fraudulent venture a law designed to help people who genuinely love themselves

Nig4Greatness:
......

@BJ,
It's easier said than done,....form I-130 is for relatives and getting a K1 from the process is a hard nut to crack.

Nothing about immigration process is easy BUT it is worth it.

I believe I-130 is the best and fastest way to come to come to yankee If two people genuinely love each other. And why won't two people that love each other not want to meet?

I know American ladies, a lot of them love the thrills, the travel and adventure. They would love the idea of traveling (even if you live under a rock) if they are genuinely interested in you. The biggest problem might be cost (and there are several ways of getting tickets almost free through credit card companies and accumulating flight points grin grin).

i think the biggest challenge is that a lot of people are dating ladies/men that are old to be considered adults but too young to make their own decisions. And most foreigners seeking American spouse are not genuine and upfront and once the supposed spouse seeing the red flag, they just keep you at arms length.

The whole I-130 process takes between 2 to 6 months, so why not give it a try
Like i said, it is 2018. It is time to try new challenges

Bigtt76 advised me to check on YouTube which is infact very useful. I will search on eBay for used OEM oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 and fix the oxygen sensor. The title of the car just came in the mail today and very soon I might sell it but i always feel comfortable with the ride.

Why did you file i131. You planning to go to Nigeria soon?

oh yeah, always check youtube. it is one of the best DIY place ever!!

We filed 131 (advance parole) cos we plan going on a cruise in the summer and since we are not sure i will have my green card then, it is just best to have something to travel and come back to the country with. Better safe than sorry.

So I put myself into unnecessary problems.

I bought this car with no issues. A week after it displayed "check engine light" and also due to snow, it wiper is not fully efficient. So I went to AutoZone to fix the wiper which cost 29$ and got a free scan on my CEL. it came back with code p1273 and code p1444. Something about oxygen sensor was mentioned and I looked up prices online and told myself. It something that can be fixed.

So I took it to a mechanic workshop and said they will do a diagnostic scan on the car price btw $55 and $110 and said go ahead and do it.

Well I was called to come and gave me a bill of $1624 to do repairs. I said to myself this car is working smoothly nah so where did $1624 come from. The list tild me they will buy parts of $600(o2 sensor, exhaust manifold etc) and labour is $1000. cry.

My heart was so broken. I said to myself what if the car breakdown nko? I have considered so many options. Once I have the title of the car in hand, i will sell it for below $2000 and use the money to finance another car from a dealer.

$1600 to fix a car. Infact the thing break my heart mo br small

Sorry about your car bro.

If you have a fiance/boyfriend/girlfriend that is a US citizen and it is looking promising and really serious, I think you both should look into the form I-130 (I-130, Petition for Alien Relative - USCIS)

He/ she can file a petition for you and when the petition is approved (usually takes between 2-5months), you can go to the US embassy or consulate close to you to get a K1 visa which allows you to come to the US and finish the other process of becoming a permanent resident here in the US.

it is a straightforward process.

anyone that is connected to the US through relationship to a USC can look into this. it is 2018 people!!!

Snow storm is Snow falling plus heavy wind.

the heavy wind makes it even worse cos the wind is so cold and when it hits your body, you feel it in your bones.

Snow storm comes with heavy downpours of snow just like heavy rainfall.

Last snowstorm, we got 12inches after the storm. it was insane.

Bj quick question!!!!
how do you discribe snow ? I mean are snow heavy when filled in a Bag just like sand ?

the Question may sound silly, but hell no I had to ask

Yes, snow are heavy when filled in bags. its just like bag of garri.

from my personal experience without consulting google. Snow is frozen rain but so light it falls from the sky like feather. You know that Ice that easily dissolves when you touch the inner part of your freezer, that is exactly what we have falling from the sky.
The problem is that the temperature is so cold that when they fall, they don't easily melt. They accumulate.

Just like we have heavy rainfall in Nigeria (between June to End of september/october), you know the rain that starts slowly (not heavy) and won't stop for days, that is the bad part about the snow. They accumulate everywhere and cars cannot easily pass and it also reduces visibility.

The other bad thing about it is that Days after a snow fall, temperature increases and the snow melts. Then, temperature drops and the melting snow fuses together and become ice. Now, ice is more dangerous that snow cos you'll definitely fall walking on ice and cars will skid off the road driving on ice. Also, it is harder to get rid of the snow when they turn to ice.

you know what happens when you touch a hot object like "hotplate", same thing happen when you touch a really cold object (especially metal like Ratchet used for changing tyres left outside in the cold), it gets so cold, it will burn your skin.

The only good thing i have seen about winter is the first snow, everyone is happy and then the pictures you take are so beautiful no matter how ugly you look grin. Everybody hates WINTER. i've never seen someone that liked it.

ps: it gets so cold that your fingers are toes start burning to a stage while you can no longer feel them and then advance to where you can't bend your fingers. you can literally freeze to death within an hour.

Sorry man, a lot of us in Nigeria see our relatives abroad as cash cows. When they don't send us money we call them selfish, and say they have money but don't want to help us.

I don't think I'm qualified to give anyone advice on how to Spend their money, but here's my two cents;

Focus on primary family now (you, your wife and kids).

Understand that you cannot help everyone (you're not the superman, even superman can't).

You can't help people (whether family or friends) by sending them money, they'll just squander it and come back for more. If you insist you want to help someone, loan them money to start a business or learn a handiwork.

Finally and most importantly, do not send money to just anyone to buy you property in Nigeria. Them go chop the money because them know say you no dey Naija, and them believe say the money no be anything to you.
Sorry you had to experience the dilemma of every Nigerian in diaspora.

Thank you
