Please ignore my grammatical blunders on this post. I really have no idea how to go about the topic

African Americans

Our notion (Majority of US in Nigeria) about African Americans isn’t entirely correct. We have the sentiments that they are rude, uneducated, ignorant, disrespectful, always fighting and shooting each other and not family oriented. None of these points is entirely true. It is like saying that Nigerians are “Yahoo-yahoo” people. Is that true? Well, to some extent. Is it a reflection of majority of Nigerians? NO. I agree we do have few bad eggs that are cyber criminals. The issue is that this few are so persistent with this crime and so bold about it that their actions affects us all.

I do understand that living in Nigeria, we know few things about African Americans.
From the contents we see in the news and social media, We have been conditioned to believe that African Americans are nuisance and all they do is fight, rob, shoot each other, loot stores, baby daddies and baby mummies etc. However, statistically, More blacks in 2017 are owning their own business, properties, graduating from college and starting a family than ever seen in the history of US. So, do not let the videos of few ignorant people fighting sums up your experience of African Americans just like you wouldn’t let the news of another Nigerian caught with drugs in Vietnam sums up other people’s reflection of Nigerians.

Also a lot of African Americans have limited knowledge of Africans in general. Majority thinks we run around in the bush naked chasing Lions and antelopes. That is what they generally have been conditioned to believe. However, times are changing and you will meet more open minded AA than ever before (don’t let the few ignorant ones you meet discourage you from reaching out)
If you don’t live here, you might find it hard to understand the systemic oppression black have had to endure (and still enduring) in America. It is hard to explain if you don’t live here.

Coming to America, I want you all to be open minded. Be ready to mingle and interact with people regardless of their background.
Don’t look at people by the reflection of their skin. Understand that people are just people. Good white people, bad/prejudiced white people , good black people, bad/prejudiced black people, good Asian people, bad/prejudiced Asian people etc.

Wow! In all situations we give thanks to God. Hoping and praying you get back to your job. Glad to have you back in here. Have you thought of doing a blog of all these? It would be nice you know and will get lots of patronage wink

Thank you. I do appreciate

I thought about blogging (not about Adjustment of status though). I am a tech enthusiast. Maybe blog about Technology and West-Africa. But i also can be really lazy about writing grin.

I still have "jobs" i can't just talk about it since my permit expires. Today, i'll be shoveling snow for 25$ an hour (if it eventually snowed) grin grin. When it comes to making money, trust me, i don't sit around grin

For the Adjustment of status, We filled out all the forms and have all supporting documents.

So by the 2nd week in January, we will be mailing out the Forms with the fees

If i wasn't married to a USC, i will have 30days (from Wednesday, 6th ) to leave the US. It is called the 30 day grace after a permit expires.

But now that i am married to a USC, it isn't gonna be counted against me.

I am glad the week is over.
I had a rough 2 weeks now. Everything seems to be going back to normal. I finished the week being "unemployed". I got a speeding ticket ($186) and accidentally locked myself outside in the cold yesterday. I had to wait for my wife to get home (from 6:30pm till 11:00pm). It wasn't a nice experience. But i survived.

So, i am officially back to posting here

it is suppose to snow today. Am i excited? No. Cos it has been really cold for some days now and i really fear how coming weeks will be. I know for sure it will be beautiful. I just can't stand the cold

I have dated my finance for a year now, we are getting married next month, shes an american. We are planing on getting a visa .my question is this can i apply for visiting visa or finance visa.
And how long wil it take to process.
And if we are using the financy visa what are the requirements to produce.
Or working visa, please i dnt know much abt the visa

You have two options

Your best bet is to get the k1 visa before getting married. She needs to file the Form on your behalf. Once approved, you can then apply for the K1 visa. The k1 visa is what you will come to the US with. It allows you to finish the other processes of obtaining prrmanent residency in the US.

Thr other option is being married to your fiancee thrn she files the alien petition for your permanent residency.

Both option will disqualify you automatically from getting a visit visa. However, the first option is faster than the other (3 to 6 months of being in the US whike the 2nd is 6month to 2years).

Am sorry is not possible. Is not possible to adjust from one class of non-immigrant visa to the other, adjustment is only possible when adjusting from non-immigrant to immigrant visa. So you have to come back to Nigeria to apply for your F1 visa.

Yes it is.

You can adjust from one nin immigrant to another. People do it all the time. F1 to H1, F1 to B1/B2, J1 to F1, B1/B2 to J2.

Is it easier? I really don't know (For some nationality, it is.)

Can you get an adjustment of status from the B1 to F1 in the U.S. without coming back to naija U.S. embassy?

Like you said, it is much easier getting admission and making tuition payment whilst in the U.S. with a B1/B2 visa. The wahala of coming back to naija to go through the process is tiring.

Yes, you can. You need to prove beyond reasonable doubt why you don't need to go back to Nigeria to apply. It is easier through a lawyer. People have done it on their own. Personally, i will recommend you go back to nigeria and apply.
Regardless of what people say, always follow your guts.

I assume you'd be shooting mostly landscapes and people right? I'll recommend an entry level dslr Nikon D5200 with the 18-55 kit lens and the 50mm 1.8 prime lens would be perfect for landscapes(kit lens) and getting beautiful bokeh when shooting people (50mm) The combo would set you back under $400

The Camera I'm using right now is a 6 year old Canon 7D, before that I used the D5100 and I will strongly recommend the Nikon D5200 if you are on a budget and the D7300 with the lens I mentioned if you are not on a budget. If money no be problem lol then go for a full frame the Canon 5d mark IV and the 24-70 f2.8 mark ii is every serious photographers dream combo for all round shooting (landscapes, portraits etc.)

Bro, those Nikon are super expensive. I have bee checking on Facebook markets and there are so much Canon than Nikon.
Do you have canon recommendations. I really need a camera. Now that i have less things to do, i wanna take photography to occupy myself.

bl**wjobs got his J1 years back when things were good, Now most designated agencies by Us Embassy require minimum of $10,000 to cover cost, and the embassy insists you must go through them and only one of the agencies accepts applications from Nigeria, the rest don't bother.

the bolded,
Yes, you must go through the designated agency. That is why i said J1 visa is the easiest. Once you get the documents from the agency, your Visa na 90% confirm. so for J1 visa, you will need to go through Dept of State designated agencies

All my J1 interview, Vo just ask for my DS form and Sevis plus insurance and told me to pick up my visa while handling me the white paper.

It was like i went there to do finger print.

My first J1 visa interview was the longest and it took approximately 30secs to 1min, 30secs.

PS: i didn't apply in Nigeria, maybe that was a factor too (it was definitely a factor in getting direct contact with one of the DOS agency)

I prefer F1 because with F1 there no requirement to leave the country after the program if you want to later switch to h1b or aos

But j1 you have to give back to your home country or outside the US. So it usually come with a requirement of 2 years home country post graduation . Also there is a 12 Month Bar After Previous J-1 Participation .. That too I don't like that limitations

I am not saying which is better but what i prefer

Hi, this is entirely not true.

for the 212e (2 years residency rule) you can apply for a waiver. You will most likely get it except you got sponsorship from US govt or organization.
you might not get a waiver if you are a physician on a J1 program (you however should apply for one)

i am not sure about your 12 months ban cos i came on 2 different J1 visas within 12 months (2015 and 2016)

I however, still prefer a F1 visa having been on a J1 (J1 has restrictions. it ties you down to your research/work).

PS: anyone finding F1 visa difficult/cumbersome should try a J1. Easiest visa to get (Seriously)

I am starting to see what Mrs K means as too much bad news. What should people do with the picture of the accident? or picture of badly injured people, decapitated human bodies or burnt victims?

What exactly is the purpose of the horrifying pictures? it doesn't honor the victims at all. it dehumanizes them. So what it the purpose of those threads on the home page? it is still morning and so much bad news on the home page.

We need to do better collectively.

I have said it before on this thread, I won't openly support Immigration fraud INTENT on this forum.

I created this thread to document my journey to becoming a Permanent residence and the hurdles on the way. Is it easy? NO.

Because i am on a Visa (which comes with authorization to work), i have gotten "shits" thrown at me, given the worst tasks that anyone else won't do here (like cleaning other people's mess they made in the kitchen WTF!!!). Don't get me wrong, I have done worst in Nigeria and i have witnessed so much "bull.sh.it" in Nigeria in the entire time that i live there than what i will probably witness here throughout my lifetime BUT it doesn't excuse the injustice so i won't make excuse for the "bias" i witness here just because there is worse in Nigeria. My oga knows i can't quit my job, might make my Visa a lil bit complicated

My targeted audience is Nigerian Undergrad students, Pre-NYSC and Post-NYSC people. For a lot of us, there is nothing special waiting for us after service. This thread is the "don't dull yourself" thread. Don't let the frustration of you having to wait 2 years to secure a 35000Naira job gets to you. It can depress you, can make you start thinking about yourself as a failure (it almost happened to me so i can totally relate)

Like i have said on this particular thread several times, I DO NOT have a problem with anyone trying to better their lives that is why i keep saying it really doesn't matter at the end the class of Visa you came to yankee with (B1/B2,J1,F1,H1B,H2B,O,K1...). What matters most is you being diligent, smart, skilled, hard-working and seeking information.

BUT I will not openly on this thread, encourage you with immigration fraud intent. I will however advise you to visit the US. it is amazing here (especially for first time travelers)

Coming to the US on a B1/B2 visa and planning to stay behind is hard. (how hard that is depends, so it can be relative). I do however maintain that regardless of how hard it is, it really cannot be compared to how hard Nigeria is for my targeted audience.

Your best course of action after a B1/B2 is issued is to visit for the purpose you got your visa and then apply for an F1. I strongly maintain that B1/B2 makes your F1 application a lot easier. F1 comes with lots of advantage you will miss out of living here on a B1/B2

For the married/Family people that wrote to me and it seems i didn't respond. I really do not have an advise for you. I do not want to be seen giving advise that ends up breaking your family apart. I am not into putting asunder what GOD has joined together. So while i encourage young, single, dedicated Nigerian to maybe start planning for the future. Do you wanna live a future full of visa applications and dwindle job opportunities or do you want that to be the least of your worries?

In conclusion, I encourage everyone to at least visit America (including PIDGIN2) and see for themselves. NA WHO COME YANKEE KNOW WETIN DEY
