ufotunang: ...in this case its not really the competition that caused Unilever to shut down... Unilever has been operating in nigeria for many years more than 30 years.. and competiting with other products and companies producing the same similar products Unilever produces ..but by then Unilever company did not shut down because the environment was conducive for bussinesses companies industries to thrive and Excel...since Tinubu administration started when Tinubu removed fuel subsidy and floated the naira against the dollar..in which dollars is rising and naira is depreciating and losing value...you can see how bad the economy is..... when the economy is bad it affects bussinesses companies industries ...for indomie and soft drink companies they are struggling to survive the hard economy ...with this removal of fuel subsidy and floating of naira... Tinubu economic policies... some companies in nigeria have shut down.. like...glaxosmithkline company, Procter and gamble company, Jumia foods, bolts foods, jubliee syringe company and some other companies also...just go to Google search... and Google... companies that shut down in 2023.. and they will explain the reasons they shut down in 2023 Hmmm. Ok i get ur points |

theamazonguru: Papau New Guinea.
It is an island country that lies in the south-western Pacific. It includes the eastern half of New Guinea and many small offshore islands. Its neighbours include Indonesia to the west, Australia to the south and Solomon Islands to the south-east. Infact, the country's economy remains dominated by two broad sectors: the agricultural, forestry, and fishing sector that engages most of PNG's labor force (the majority informally); and. the minerals and energy extraction sector that accounts for most export earnings and GDP. |

Eriokanmi: The economy is the cause of compromise among some industries. Mr Biggs is owned by Nigerians Partly. But the greed of the black man is the main cause. It's the same reason u see billionaires in Nigeria opening clubs, hotels and plazas. They want maximum profits, quick money. But a white man will use the same 200 million naira, build a center for advanced physiotherapy treatments. The white man will steadily make his profits. And he will be Contented with it. Not the black man. Lai Lai. E must make excessive profits |

ufotunang: ...it's the harsh economy affecting their bussinesses....1200 naira to a dollar, lack of constant power supply, high costs of fuel and disel to run their generator to provide light for the industry, multiple taxation and other things..the environment is not conducive for their bussinesses to thrive Hmm. I'd say it's the competition. Indomie has no competition so even if they use diesel at 5k per litter they will still survive cos they have a very very large market. Every body they buy indomie every minute Same with soft drink markets. What do u think about my points? |

Eriokanmi: Before I respond to your question, you wey no be Unilever, as an individual, is your life better now than it was some years back? Are you spending less or you are spending more?
Unilever will never compromise the quality they have known for donkey years due to poor economy. You cannot compare Omo with WAW. Omo forms lather much more than the highly publicize WAW. A handful of omo will wash clothes but other detergent brands can't. In order to maintain their quality, they would rather go to a country with favourable economic condition.
Come to think of it, as poor as Nigeria is, we buy fuel almost same price as those who are developed and our law makers earn the highest in the world. They buy Toyota SUV instead of Peugeot and/or locally made cars. They keep borrowing. I am so sorry for this country. Yes my life is better. U know why? I was making let's say, 10 naira per month before. It was more than enough for me. Now I make 12 naira. It's still more than enough. Let me break it down for u. Before, I cud have excess of 200k to flex about in a month. Now I can have excess of 160k to flex around. Now does that make things worse for me? No. Before u come out to defend Unilever, let me remind u that most of these companies that have been in Nigeria even before I was born started lowering their quality since. Take Mr biggs for example: they went down when Nigeria wasn't even deteriorating. Cadbury BOURNVITA isn't the same taste like it used to be in the early 90s. And the taste changed like in the mid nineties. I suspect greedy Nigerians in charge of some of the departments made caused this. What about indomie? Indomie isn't the Indomie it was the first year it came out. Yet indomie is if not the most bought item in this country. Yet they compromised on their standards even though they have a large number of customers. My own thinking is that greedy shareholders want to make maximum profits at all costs so they keep increasing prices |

Economists in the house, does that mean they were not making profits, although not as much as before?
I say this cos av always felt that the top shots in companies are the main cause of these problems. As soon as shares start dropping they exit.
Its not like they are not making profits o. But they wud prefer to make very large profits |

Gerrard59: Hasty generalisation. Besides, David just started his journey. No one knows where he will be in a decade's time.
Impressive. Bosun studied at MIT for both his BSc and MSc. He has been working at Google for more than a decade. He must be exceptionally brilliant.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/bosun-adeoti-1757545/ Not hasty. U know jamb of the late 90s to early 2000s was no joke. Bosun broke and heald the record for many years. Also had best Waec result Won the national essay competition that year too. Then his first semester at OAU? UNILAG( CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH) he had the best results. Then wrote SAT and was 2nd in the world. Then wrote SAT 2 and was first in the world. Got scholarships, went to MIT and was 2nd best student there. Thats why I said this guy can't stand toe to toe with bosun. All the achievements I mentioned are all secondary school feats. If we're talking about the future, ofcos David can show the world better achievements. But pre university things? Bosun stands . By the way bosun was beating his classmates with 0.5,1 or 2 marks. If bosun came tops on let's say maths with 99 marks over 100, there will be about 3 people scoring 98.5, another 3 scoring 97 etc. Crazy set. Because of him ISI introduced 2nd and 3rd place prizes. |

🤣 Who said so? I said he was the best in Waec O. I was trying to point out that that year 2 people came out tops. Waec had to remark so they used total marks over 100 to judge the winner. And bosun was coasting home with ridiculous marks. I think he had 11 A1s or so. It's funny sha. The guy was ridiculously good at sports too. Frm basketball to football to running.
