Politics / Boko Haram Are Not Muslims - Senator Barkiya by Blue3k2: 6:59pm On Mar 08, 2020
Senator (Engr.) Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya representing Katsina Central has said that apart from the military action already being waged by the Nigerian Army at the war front, fervent prayers and fasting can also bring to an end the decades of Boko Haram's terror in Nigeria.

The Senator said that the role of prayers and fasting in overcoming challenges bedevilling the country cannot be ignored.

"While the soldiers are fighting at the war front, it is important for all Nigerians irrespective of their religion including the religious leaders to unite and pray for the country to defeat Boko Haram, bandits and others."

Quoting from the Quran, the Senator stressed that Allah said: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Q.40: 60.

Don't forget, the government has done the first thing, which is providing basic equipment to fight Boko Haram, but winning any battle is in the hand of Allah and it requires prayers.

"That's why I strongly support Governor Zulum who appealed to Nigerians to pray and fast for Borno and other places being threatened by insecurity. I read that a lot of Nigerians, both Muslims and non-Muslims observed it.

That is very great. Allah will surely answer the prayers of the oppressed and verily the challenges will be surmounted", he noted.

Senator Barkiya insisted that the Boko Haram terrorists are not Muslims even as the group hide under the name of Islam to commit nefarious activities.

He urged the Muslims to see it as a duty to explain to the people, that Boko Haram members are not Muslims because there is no where in the Qur'an where Allah said innocent people should be killed, indiscriminately or indiscriminately. He, however, advised that those who call Boko haram 'Islamists' should not be condemned, instead educated.

"The media and other ignorant individuals might probably not be informed about the true teachings of Islam. Of course, they should be wise enough to know that this group also kill Muslims, including scholars. But we shouldn't rebuke or fight them. We need to sensitise them.

"Therefore, it's the work of everybody, not only the Ulamah (scholars). It's the work of you and I, including journalists and other professionals. We have to re-orientate and explain to people that Islam doesn't support the activities of the group.

"Boko Haram members are ignorants who were brought up on wrong ideology. They don't know what Islam says. Even, they don't know the fundamentals of Islamic rules and regulations. Hence, the main reason they attack, kill people, Muslims and non-Muslims indiscriminately. That's why they do whatever they like.

"Therefore, it's teamwork for all Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to condemn them and teach people the pristine Islam different from what Boko Haram is preaching. We have to put heads together to see how we can preach to them (Boko Haram members) that what they are doing is wrong. And also tell others that what Boko Haram is doing is not Islamic. So, this is the only way.

"We have to be collective in this task - I mean we the good Muslims. A verse in the Holy Qur'an says; "We will not change your condition except you decided to change your own condition by yourselves". So, that's what we have to be doing fundamentally. Of course, we make people aware that Boko Haram is far away from Islam because they are not doing what Islam says.

Barkiya faults claims of Islamisation Agenda

Senator Barkiya faulted the unfortunate noise about 'Islamisation Agenda', saying it is a propaganda to tarnish the image of Islam because there is no compulsion in the religion, according to Islam.

"Those spreading the Islamisation Agenda talks are another set of ignorant people and it's unfortunate that those propagating this thought are assumed to be knowledgeable. The Qur'an is explicit on this issue. Allah says there is no compulsion in faith. Therefore, to say somebody is coming to Islamise Nigeria does not arise because the Creator Himself said that there is no compulsion in religion.

"You cannot force people to join your religion. It is unacceptable. Therefore, most people are just ignorant and do not have knowledge of Islam. It is our duty as Muslims to explain to people that the perception is wrong because Allah Who owns the religion says you should not force people into it. You can only encourage people until they feel convinced.

"Islam insists that a leader should give everybody his rights, whether Muslims or non-Muslims because Allah will ask you about it on the day of judgement. Everybody under you has his rights. This is what people don't know.

Politics / Reps Task FG On Installation Of Landing Facilities At Margaret Ekpo Int Airport by Blue3k2: 11:11pm On Mar 07, 2020
By Jacob Segun Olatunji - Abuja
The House of Representatives on

Thursday called on Federal Government to urgently procure and install landing facilities at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, Cross River  State.

The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Daniel Asuquo, who underscored the importance of air transportation in any modern society.

While beckoning on the Minister of Aviation to fast-track the process, Hon. Asuquo explained the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, Cross River State, currently does not have landing facilities.

According to him, “the effect of which is that Aircraft cannot land at the airport at night and can neither land nor take off in a bad weather no matter the emergency, a situation that has implications on the health of the people as well as national security.

“The House is concerned that sometimes for several days, no Aircraft lands at the airport thereby forcing travelers to fly through the neighbouring Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State at great expense and inconvenience.

“The House is also concerned that the deplorable state of the Airport is adversely affecting the economy of Cross River State which has already suffered enough, first, through the loss of Bakassi to Cameroon and, then, the loss of 76 oils wells, and now depends on tourism, apart from its meager receipts from the Federation Account.

“The House is convinced that as the first capital of Nigeria and an International Tourist Destination, Calabar (and indeed Cross River State) does not deserve the indignity of not being able to use its only airport optimally,” he said.

To this end, the House mandated its joint Committees on Aviation and Legislative Compliance to monitor the situation to ensure compliance.

Or you should rather spoon feed yourself. He said some have voluntarily withdrawn their children from the street. And you heard Ganduje saying 2 million here, 3 million there and there's another place he says million. All these are assumptions. You believe him when he said a million but you don't believe him when he said majority are non indigine.

If you applied common sense you'd figure out the lie yourself. Are you claiming over million kids left the country last week? The almajari population in Nigeria is measured at 9.5 million by UNICEF that's why his figure is plausible. The estimate are both in the millions and he conducted a survey. If the majority of them aren't Nigerians he would simply call NIS to round them up and deport them. Apply logic there's no way 95% of almajiris non Nigerians as he said.

Ganduje disclosed that 95 per cent of Almajiris in Kano are children who migrated from Chad, Niger Republic and Northern part of Cameroon to seek Quranic education.

You're not making sense either. I have known you to disect things with fact but you have fall hand this time. 1.5k was arrested who told you that's all? Have you conducted census about what he says, that you're concluding it to be lie. In your own logic since he is lying, then the number of indigines are the majority. How are you different from him (Ganduje) that's says majority are non indigine.

Do you need me to spoon feed you all the information? Ganduje is quoted in 2019 saying there's over 2 million almajiris the state. Unless you see them repatriate over a million of almajiris that's clearly a lie. If you have common sense, know basic math and look up these stories this lie difficult to catch.

If they took a survey why dont they just repa

As of today in Kano, we have over 2 million almajiri in Kano which we don’t have the infrastructure to take care of them.

Governor Ganduje 2019

In Kano, we undertook a survey and we found out that we have more than three million Almajiris and Almajiri syndrome is one of the serious problems that we have in the north-west geopolitical zone.

“What we discovered from our survey is that many of these Almajiris come from the Niger Republic, some from Chad, Northern Cameroon and some from other states of the north-west.

Is he lying? It says Katsina has the highest.

It's an obvious lie. There's almajiri populations there is in million. Then the article here doesn't mention how many of them were residents. That tiny 1500 number should be telling.

Again if they're from other countries why had the state not called NIS to deport them. The guy is just deflecting.

The NIS should do their jobs. Deport all these illegal aliens. These northern condoned their presence then later complain they're committing crimes.

The official said Katsina has the highest numbers of the repatriated almajiris while Jigawa State has the least.

I'd like a break down on the numbers. Lol gandolla use to claim most of the almajari were from outside the state. These politicians tell dumb lies.

Politics / Kano Arrests & Repatriates 1,500 Almajiris To Neighbouring States, Countries by Blue3k2: 3:03pm On Mar 06, 2020
The Kano State Government on Friday said it has arrested and repatriated over 1,500 Almajiris back to their states and countries of origin, following a ban on street begging in the state.

The spokesperson of Hisbah, (the state’s moral police) Lawan Fagge, told PREMIUM TIMES that those arrested were repatriated to their states which includes: Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Borno and Yobe states.

Mr Fagge said others are from Kano, Adamawa and neighboring countries of Chad and Niger Republic, adding that following the ban, some parents voluntarily withdrew their children from the streets.

Earlier, PREMIUM TIMES reported how the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, announced the ban on street begging by children popularly referred to as Almajiris.

The official said Katsina has the highest numbers of the repatriated almajiris while Jigawa State has the least.

Among the arrested almajiris, about 70 per cent are children from the ages of seven and twelve, the official said.

He added that there are also old aged women who sees begging as a business, as even when their families provided all their needed necessities, they insisted on going out to beg.

According to the official, those in that category are over 400. We counselled them and handed them over to their families here in Kano, while others are repatriated back to their states, the official said.

“Those arrested children from Kano were classified. Those who can read and write the Holy Qur’an were identified awaiting further directives from his excellency the governor,” said Mr Fagge.

The official, however, acknowledged that the banning of the streets begging in the state is still facing a challenge because they are still currently debating other almajiri’s teachers who are against the ban.

The government’s decision to ban the children from street begging is meant to safeguard their future and make the society a better place for all, the spokesperson said.

The government said the effort was to fully consolidate the free and compulsory primary and Secondary Schools education in the state.

Also, the decision was meant to integrate the Almajiri System into the policy and address the lingering problem of street begging.

Politics / It's Official - Oyetola Reverses Aregbesola's Education Policies In Osun by Blue3k2: 4:00am On Mar 04, 2020
By Adejumo Kabir

The Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, on Monday approved the reversal of the single school uniform, 'reclassification' of the public school system and the abolition of single-sex schools introduced in 2013 by his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola.

These reversals were approved during the state executive council in Osogbo. All the reversed policies will take effect from the next academic session, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

Briefing journalists after the council meeting, on Monday, the state's commissioner for information, Funke Egbemode, said the state considered 10 of 26 recommendations by a panel led by Olu Aina, set up to review education policies of the past administration.

The panel became necessary after the clamour for the policy reviews by educationists, school administrators, missionaries and school owners, she said.

PREMIUM TIMES exclusively revealed last week that issues to be reviewed include the introduction of 'Opon Imo,' otherwise referred to as tablet of knowledge, issuance of primary school leaving certificates, change of schools' identities, ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), operations of Osun State University, merger of basic and high schools across many communities, among others.

Reversals

Mrs Egbemode on Monday said Mr Oyetola reversed nine of the policies outrightly while the 'Opon Imo' education tablets would be enhanced and reintroduced to schools.

"The council unanimously agreed with the expert report that the State of Osun should reverse to the 6-3-3-4 structure as opposed to the 4-5-3-4 education policy.

"The council also agreed that the state will henceforth allow every school to return to its old-established and recognised public uniform.

"Another issue was the review of the current arrangement for managing new model high schools. The council agreed that the operations of the Omoluabi Education Services Limited would be wound up since it has not been fulfilling the mandate for which it is established.

"The council agreed that early childhood education be restored in the state and the state will employ well-trained professionals to handle the early childhood education that was suspended," she said.

Controversy

Following the reversal, there have been mixed reactions from the loyalists of Messrs Aregbesola and Oyetola.

A source close to Mr Aregbesola, who is now the interior minister, told PREMIUM TIMES he is not happy with the decision of his successor.

One of the aides who served with Mr Aregbesola but pleaded that his name should not be mentioned as he was not authorised to speak, told PREMIUM TIMES that the recent activities of Mr Oyetola "were to rubbish the efforts of his (ex) boss".

"Someone has set a legacy and it is upon the legacy that you climbed to become governor today. Yet, the best way you consider to pay him back is to rubbish all he did to make the state different, Rauf and some of us that worked with him cannot be happy with him. Oyetola was Aregbe's engine room for eight years but failed to give him right direction," he said.

Meanwhile, the state's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its reaction said the reversal was already long overdue.

The secretary of the party, Bola Ajao, said Mr Aregbesola was known for his 'policy summersaults', some of which have now been reversed.

Politics / Sabo Nanono: It Is Unpatriotic To Sell 50kg Local Rice More Than N15,000 by Blue3k2: 5:53pm On Mar 02, 2020
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, has decried the high cost of rice in Nigeria, describing the price as unpatriotic.

This is just as the Minister lauded the effort of farmers in Nigeria, stating that it will help actualise the government’s agenda in the Agricultural sector being food sufficiency, job creation and economic growth.

The Minister said this during a working visit to rice farms and mills of Stallion Group Limited, Popular Farms and Mill Limited – the producers of Stallion rice in Kano, Kano State during the weekend.

He said: “I see no reason why a 50kg bag of rice should be sold for N17,000, the same paddy rice is sold at N8,500 and maximum processing expense is N2,000 making a total of N10,500, it is unpatriotic to sell a bag more than N14,000 to N15000.”

Furthermore, Nanono noted that the Nation’s land border closure had resulted in an accelerated and increased output by rice milling plants in Nigeria, adding the boost would reduce the high rate of unemployment.

The Minister reiterated that with the improved production rate, Nigeria rice is bound to compete favourably in the global market the moment exportation begins.

He said, ” if we maintain this momentum in the next two years, we may export rice to other countries.”

He noted that the Ministry would convene a forum for all relevant stakeholders in the rice sub-sector to dialogue on how to improve on rice Seedlings, farm inputs among others. According to him, ” this meeting should take place in the next three to four weeks.”

He lauded the Stallion Group for efforts towards improving rice production and creating jobs for Nigerians. He urged other investors to key into Agribusiness because of Its numerous financial benefits.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Managing Director, Popular Farms and Mill Limited, Mr Amit Kumar Rai Stated that “Stallion Group Popular Farms and Mills Limited, has invested over US $70m to boost production of Agric business in Nigeria. It operates the biggest rice mill in Kano with an annual installed capacity of 430, 000 metric tons. It has a consolidated capacity of 1.7 Mn Metric tons.”

Mr Rai further said that “the group is investing also in additional milling facilities locally in order to obtain self-sufficiency in rice production. He highlighted some of the popular brands of the group include: Tomato King, Double Bull, People’s Princess and Super Champion.”

He pointed out that the group organises training and distributes rice farming tools free to out-growers across the rice-producing states in Nigeria as part of its dedicated services in the value chain initiative.

The overwhelming majority of them are illiterates and hungry people who do what the fulani leaders tell them to do. Give the Hausa masses literacy and enlightenment and watch them send your asses back to Futa jallon!

Were Northern Christian minorities not in romance with the caliphate in the past? What changed?

Fulanis have infiltrated Hausa society beyond the traditional leaders, so the deposition of the traditional ruler won't change anything. Majority of Hausa elites, middle-class, scholars and Clergymen have been intermarried into fulani families.

Personally for me, I don't even care how poverty continues to ravage Hausa muslims.... Hausa Muslims and northern minority Muslims can perish with their Fulani leadership for all I care.
We just have to remind you people of your failures especially when you bring something like this here.

Why is it a surprise that the Hausa king sought the advice of someone with a university education in 1742 when we still have all sorts of experterates serving in Nigeria today? You can blame him for being fooled, just like Afonja, but you can certainly see that happening.

On the other side, you don't see Yoruba or Igbo muslims going to Sokoto and preaching to the people that the sultan is practicing impure islam without a blowback: this goes against your revisionist idea that Hausa people supported a foreigner like Fodio against their own king without a lot of military and strategic manipulations thanks to his advanced education.

You're cant see the inherent contradiction in your post. You claim dan Fodio was an illegal alllien then say the king employed him. Thst means he had permission to be in the land. Your oint is also wrong since dan fodio was born and grew up in Gobir. He wasnt an outsider.

Lol you excuse mongers always have some justification for foolishness. He had the means to send his own subjects to acquire education and learn. He could brought teachers and books. Dan fodio declared war after attacked first.

Dan Fodio having followers of many ethnicities isnt revisionist. The taxes burden, religious persecution by Yunfa and assassination attempt led people to war against him. Is it manipulative to change minds?

I thought dan fodio was a fulani man?

He was a fulani man. He was simply born and grew up the region. The fulani were always around doing living their nomadic lifestyle. As this story implies some settled.

I have said this before, When Nigeria divides/restructure, The bokoharam, almajiri, poverty, illiyracy, bandits would be purely a northern problem. Until them, it is my problem because money that should be used to fund better quality education in the south or money that should be used to fund infrastructure projects in the south is being wasted in the impoverished north

Lol you know your original comment makes no sense. Now you have switch the goal post to other issues. At first dan Fodio should be celebrated and remembered as a terrorist now it's about taxes. Dont take medicine for some elses headache. As you said Dan Fodio is northern Nigeria's problem.

Danfodio should not be celebrated but rather condemned for his terrorists action

Lol he already has a university named after him. You should go petition them to change the name. Better yet campaign to abolish the sokoto monarchy.

3. Every conquered city will be imposed with the belief, culture, teaching and lifestyle of the conquerer.

This point is incorrect. The mongols didnt impose their religion on the lands they conqured. They allowed for religious diversity.

I don't know why southerners with close to zero knowledge about core north demography always like to romanticize the Hausa and dehumanised the Fulani when both group are one and the same. An average Hausa from the north west will die protecting the interest of the Fulani. I'm not saying that is a good or bad thing but that is how they want to live.

They're childish busy bodies. The supposed victims hardly write about it funny enough. The fact is they're culturally similar and have similar political voting patterns.

you and i know everything you have written there is a lie, usman was not from any hausa speaking tribe,he migrated to sokoto ,where he was born has never been stated anywhere but he was of a fulani back ground,he preached islam and got close to the then emir of sokoto who trusted him hole heartedly, usman in return killed him for been foolish and took over his kingdom,he was backed by the middle east,he then went on to advance islam by war and he waged those wars all the way to kwara state.please let us stop attempting to distort history to suit ourselfish agenda, you are trying to fool the hausas that usman was one of them, usman not only killed all the hausa emirs he replaced them all with fulanis from his linage and thus that is why you have alot of fulani emirs and very few hausa, they need to get there throwns back for the north to progress and they should know islam is not there religion they are all tradtionalist.
