TrebleChamp:https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/10/bandits-slay-pastor-abduct-20-worshippers-in-kaduna-community/amp/ This happened 4 days ago and was reported yesterday by Punch newspaper. The thing is you can't beat a child and tell that child not to cry. If a group of people keep getting attacked over and over again, it will be hard for anyone to convince them they are not being targeted for extinction. Anybody being sincere will acknowledge the fact that the Nigerian government over time has not done enough to protect minority groups (particularly Christians and non Fulanis) in the northern part of the country.

iamoyindamola:Embassy staff and Janitor báwo? An Ambassador is literally the representative of Nigeria's president in a foreign country na; whatever they are communicating is assumed to be the mind of the president of the country they represent. In April the minister for foreign affairs claimed the reasons for delay in appointments was because Tinubu was paying more attention to domestic matters and also financial constraints https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/788532-exclusive-why-tinubu-hasnt-appointed-ambassadors-foreign-minister.html One would've thought that since the presidency has been releasing glamorous benefits of the fuel subsidy removal, the funds they allegedly saved from that decision would've made it easy for them to appoint ambassadors and not give the financial constraint excuse as reason for not appointing ambassadors yet. But what do I know? 🤷♂️ Maybe we only removed subsidy to fund the lifestyle of local politicians. |
25 months counting and Nigeria still doesn't have top diplomats stationed in countries across the world serving as ambassadors to push interests of the country and anticipate key foreign policy changes by host nations. 🤷♂️
|
Roland17:In all of these, we still don't have ambassadors representing the interest of Nigeria in almost all the countries of the world. We've not had them since Bola took over. I don't know if they think about these things and have deeper look at the optics. |
https://www.1914reader.com/p/the-king-of-food This is a long read on Dangote & the 15% petrol tariff ; it is worth your time. |
raumdeuter:Well, I don't know much about her case Sha. I just felt the need to point out she's not paying for legal fees like most people would assume. I saw Inibehe mentioned it earlier this week, that was how I even know the case is still on. |
semid4lyfe:I think long years of military rule may have influenced this tradition in the Nigerian military. Also the fact the level of distrust at the topmost level of power in this country is high. I think that influenced the tradition of presidents/commander-on-chief sacking service chiefs they meet in office only to appoint theirs (Irrespective of whether the outgoing military service chiefs still have 10 years to retirement). They believe whomever they appoint themselves will be 100% loyal to them and will quash any overly ambitious officer that may want to cut short the service chief's deserved elevation. For example we saw Buhari extending the tenure of Buratai beyond his retirement age for reasons best known to him. This past week we saw Tinubu sacking the CDS that is just 2 years old in office and still have years to retirement.I know they both gave varying reasons for their actions (which we may agree with or disagree with), but I'm just pointing out inconsistencies in the whole appointment and retirement of service chiefs. In all, it is unfair on senior officers who are forced into early retirement because a president decides to elevate their juniors ; but If you ask me I would say they know what they signed up for. Even in the military they don't play by the general rules of fairness and justice which we civilians are expected to live by. |
raumdeuter:Inibehe Effiong's chambers is handling the case pro bono |
semid4lyfe:That's why most of the senior officers made GOC's, Director of military finance, commander in charge of army property, Theatre commanders, etc always end up being corrupt. They divert as much funds as they can stash away for their possible early retirement. Remember one time a particular senior officer diverted huge sums of money only for the orderlies working for him to steal same money from him. I think he was court martialled eventually. |
odizeey:Wow! Isn't it not more economical to sub DSTV sef now that a match is now ₦500? Or better still just buy data and stream on phone sef. |
swiz123:Well, I don't know how much they watch match now in viewing centers but I know most bars don't sell bottle water below N500. |
swiz123:After each match, I will go outside to discuss and analyze the outcome of the match with other fans before the next match commences. |
odizeey:Make I kill myself because 11 billionaires refuse to play ball inside the net abi ? ![]() But on a serious note, while growing up I have always suffered backpain and sometimes stiff neck from watching match in view centers on those long benches. Any kind of comfort that will free of that kind stress, I will take it. |
odizeey:What about comfort? Most viewing centers use benches that don't have backrest. Most times it's only people who sit at the back or close to the wall that really get to rest their backs. Viewing centers being properly ventilated is a farce though; when it's a star match the whole place will be crowded and no viewing center owner will send some customers away because he wants you to be comfortable and breath fresh air. |
Emaprince:I was telling a friend who is a Chelsea fan recently that Chelsea is gradually transforming into the old Arsenal, while Arsenal is transforming into the Old Chelsea. Both in style of play and quality of signings |
Emaprince:This ! ![]() Na viewing center during that time Okocha was playing at Bolton I first hear that rubbish talk : "Okocha taught Ronaldinho how to dribble ". The confidence with which the egbon made the claim would make anyone believe he was there while Okocha dey show Ronaldinho how to do rainbow flick or leg over ![]() |
Emaprince:I really don't know why Chelsea signed him. I watched him at Fulham before they were relegated back then and there wasn't anything fantastic about him. When I read Chelsea's signed him, I was wondering whether he had suddenly improved and Chelsea scouts saw something we didn't see with naked eyes. |
drisham:Yeah, I agree he was extreme in his criticism and he did a generalization that wasn't really necessary. But he made some nice points about over crowdedness of the place and how one tends to outgrow such places except one finds it difficult to pay to watch match in a more conducive location. |
odizeey:There are viewing centers and there are viewing centers. The guy is specifically referring to the specific kind of viewing center highlighted in that tweet. Most people in this pix will jump at opportunity of watching their team play in a more conducive environment like a lounge or decent open bar. Most people will not watch match here of their own volition if they have means to watch elsewhere. As and even as adults we all watched matches in that kind of viewing center, but nowadays most people would prefer to watch on a big screen where there's proper ventilation.
|
odizeey:But the truth is whether u are Nigerian or from another country, the average human will embrace comfort when small money enter their hand na. At least we all see how the lifestyle of footballers change once they start making big money whether they are African or white. |
afrodoc2:You are right, only palace coup can can stand the slightest chance of success. Even that one will require senior officers who are very very close to the presidency. I think they took the right decision canceling the independence parade for October 1st. |
afrodoc2:I think you are right. Someone who once served in the army told me OBJ hacked it; OBJ during his tenure did major shake-up that has made it quite diffcult for any attempted coup to succeed in Nigeria. He claimed OBJ being an ex -military man made sure some of the strategic army units that are required to overrun a government are far away from the seat of power. He said some of the major army units like the infantry corps, ordinance , signals, etc are spread apart. So successful coordination of a coup is very very difficult without a third ear hearing about the coup plan. Also, the fact that most coup always involve not so senior officers like Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, etc while senior officers like Generals, Major Generals, Brigadier Generals will either be arrested or killed would always make the senior officer's side with the civilian government. No senior officer wants to either get killed, jailed or have to now start saluting his junior because they successfully carried out a coup. He said Nigeria is a very big country and not as small as countries like Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, etc where with few officers u can take control of the whole country. You will face serious resistance from whatever command of the military that is not under your control, and the coup will fail in an instant. |
timbros:Yes, his description is extreme but I think he made one major point. Those crowded kinda viewing center where they use plywood to make the wall of the viewing center and roofed it with asbestos or corrugated aluminium roofing sheets, we've all been there at one point or the other. As a very young teenager it may be enjoyable watching matches there, but at some point u will just feel uncomfortable sitting almost 2 hours there to watch a match. Now you can either watch it in your sitting room or go to an open bar/lounge where u will have to buy a bottle or two to watch the match in comfort. |
swiz123:I used to enjoy watching matches at crowded up viewing centers like one in the tweet, but not anymore. The discomfort that comes with sitting on a bench without back rest in such poorly ventilated space will not make the match enjoyable no matter how I would've love to hate-watch rival team's matches. Some years back, my typical Saturday starts by 12:15 pm when I would've secured a back seat at the viewing center to watch the early kickoff by 12.30pm. I literally watched all matches of the day from 12.30pm to 6.30pm (And at times even till 8.00 pm). Na viewing center I go chop sef. But with time and growth, the lifestyle just wasn't want I could keep up with. Just like you, I enjoy watching these football matches in the comfort of my home snacking or drinking whatever drink I wish to. Sometimes one or two friends join me and at times I go to my friends' too. We banter about our clubs and all that. And once in a while If we feel like watching it outside, we go to modern bars with proper ventilation where no be say person blood go rise before he reach house. |
Is there an element of truth in what he's saying or his opinion is far from the true picture of things in present naija context?
|
Ibime:He didn't build gutter, na normal small old gutter wey don dey the area for ages be that. |
Ibime: ![]() Bold of you to think that drainage is deep; gutter wey go full after 30 mins of rain. Seems u don't know drainage like that do overflow within the shortest period of time during heavy downfall. |
izzou:Sylva may not be the brain behind the whole thing, but the financial muscle behind them. I don't think he will be the only politician involve, it mmight just be he's the only civilian that interfaces directly with the military guys. The other politicians involved may not be known to even the military guys already in detention. I'm sure if dem carry Sylva enter sanko the remaining civilians involved will be known. |
CrystalTiger:Dem don show am evidence say the government he worked for did something similar and they even defended their decision .
|
Putting Tariff on Imported products when u don't have enough local production to cater for your PMS needs is just fooolishness . When effect of the tariff kicks in and people want to protest the resultant increase in PMS cost, they will ban protest, pay influencers to twist facts on its head to gaslight and then label you enemy of Nigeria |
Roland17:Dey Play! I think Eddie Howe actually encourages this style of play. Since Eddie Howe came, Joelinton has been playing like this, Bruno Guimaraese the same and a handful of their other players always try to roughen their opponents up. Joelinton used to be a normal failed attacker who didn't amount to anything before they found a way to turn him to a thug who bullies his way from middle to the front line. Agreed Joelinton may sometimes overdo his own, but most of them like to play like thugs and Eddie seem to be fine with it. I agree nothing will change except the Refs/FA start taking punitive actions against them for this kind of tackles. |
liveLongNprospa:At the end of the day, the common man will be at the receiving end. Nigerians who gullibly support every government's decision (either because of political bias or tribal bias) still don't know how their sentiments is being used to make life harder for them as each day passes by. |
