Happy Anniversary.
grin grin

I will never forget that day's experience. Imagine watching TV without expecting much from the president's inaugural speech and u suddenly hear "Subsidy is gone" !

I dropped everything I was doing, took the car to go look for fuel because of the impending fuel scarcity that will follow the speech and I found out a lot of people were already out before me sef. Most filling stations already had queues while the ones still selling started closing their gates to hoard the old stock they have in order to sell at the new price.

Imagine government wey don give person that kind headache from its first day in office. cry

But Kanu na Igbo man and he’s the complete opposite . Kanu Dey give yanfu-yanfu when they ask him for tips at the airport . It is the same Kanu that his wife had to call his brother Ogbonna out because he dey use Kanu kids’ ticket to go watch match for free with his own family members .

Apart from that fvck up, Okocha is very successful. He knows how to say no. You will hardly see any ex-player that will say Okocha bailed him out. All of Okochas ex teammates were in dire straits from Yekinis to Oruma and you will never hear Okocha helped any of them.

His brother Emmanuel Okocha who used to play for Super Eagles from 1990 to 1992 used to live in Woolwich, we always see him in Tastys restaurant trying to toast babes and he doesn't look like someone with a superstar brother. The small investment Okocha made by bringing his sister and putting her in one ghetto in East London bore plenty fruit in Alex Iwobi. Okocha was so tight that when big Sam called him to come and discuss Bolton, he drove himself from Paris to Bolton to negotiate while other stars will book private Jet or at least Business class flight. The nigga drove from Paris to Calais, put his car on the ferry overnight, slept in his car then continued his drive the next morning. Okocha got it till today. His daughter Daniella attended Cheltenham Ladies College as a boarder where school fees per term is £18k until about 4 years ago. My in-law was her House mistress there. She did all 7 years at that college, meanwhile all Okocha ex colleagues are starving. Okocha best contract in Europe was the same as Babayaro on that same £40k per week.
Omo ! I like people like Okocha who know how to say no to billings.

I read a similar account of how tight fisted Okocha was during his time in the super eagles . They said when they go for international friendliest and tournaments and they come back to Naija , right from the airports the players are expected to drop something for the immigration guys and almost all the airport staff who would be hailing them right from when their plane lands .

Most of the players being big boys almost always give out their entire match bonus as tips but it can never be Okocha . No matter how much they hailed him, Okocha no Dey gree drop a single pound or dollar . I guess that was where word started going round that Okocha is stingy grin

Una speed Darlington fans no dey update again about his latest feature in the news for the wrong reasons; Pedophilia?

https://www.nairaland.com/8437419/needed-controversy-promote-song-speed

In 2022, Speed Darlington had in an Instagram live revealed an altercation he had with a neighbour who accused him of getting too close to a 16-year-old girl.

The singer filmed two women outside his apartment while he walked around his living room holding a knife to threaten them, saying, “They continually invade my privacy, opening my window, opening my curtain. I’m alone, two people attacking me.”

One of the women, also filming him, was heard saying, “You’ve met your match. Speed comes outside. I will deal with you; I will deal with you. Why are you running? Continue your live video, let them know you’re a rapist. You want to start messaging a 16-year-old girl, a house girl. Open this door, come out.”

PUNCH Online also reported in 2023 that Speed Darlington similarly got many talking following his search for a girlfriend who must be between the ages of 16 and 20.

“I’m looking for a girlfriend number two, 16 to 20 years old. Anyways all these announcements are a waste. I just need to do what I did before; which is go do a show and spend a week in the village after the show, find somebody to bring her to Lagos,” he said.

When Tinubu was removing subsidy they said all those money meant for subsidy payment which are now being will be utilized for infrastructure , cushioning the effects of subsidy removal and reducing poverty . Today Tinubu is seeking to borrow over 21 billion dollars , over 2 billion euros and over 15 billion Yen to finance those same aforementioned mega cost center .

Of course the rubber stamp house of assembly won’t ask plenty questions before granting his loan request.

Una wey Dey para say Obi supporters don’t fancy Atiku being the face of the coalition , I have news for u. You have bigger worries bigger than the coalition sef . Tinubu with that kinda financial war chest will tear to shreds any form of coalition irrespective of who is leading it . Make everybody just rest and watch the film being set before our eyes.

For Osimhen to settle a relative in one of Jarus duplex in Lekki is N75m (just £30k) but for an American footballer to settle his relative with a house in US in decent neighborhood, he done enter £300k plus. A 10x difference.
I saw a video of Arsenal’s Gabriel Meghaeles watching Arsenal v Madrid second leg with his family in his living room. The family members consist mainly of brothers , sisters , cousins , etc.

In my mind I was wondering what it would cost him to make all of those family members live comfortably well just because he now plays for a top club and earns big .

Big money big problems .

This is exactly why politicians loot - they get addicted to a lifestyle they can no longer afford or walk away from, so they treat public funds like a personal ATM.
There’s a particular politician who represented Somolu constituency at the Lagos state house of assembly for 4 terms i. e 16 years as a member of Lagos state house of assembly . His name is Rotimi Olowo.

He decided to step up to Federal House of assembly in 2023 so he collected APC nomination form for Federal house of reps for 2023 elections..

Due to the electoral act 2022 that forbids a candidate from holding two nomination forms at the same time , he couldn’t get the Lagos state house of assembly nomination form as insurance in case his federal house of assembly fails. ( This same law affected Akpabio and Ahmad Lawan but they bent the law and worked their way back to senate after contesting APC presidential Primary )

Unfortunately for him, he lost the APC primary for the federal house of assembly post and he can’t go back for the state house of assembly own. That was how he lost out and wasn’t on ballot at all during the 2023 general elections .

This man stayed just 2 years out of office and guess what ? He contested the recently concluded APC primaries for Somolu Local Government. I mean someone who was a state house of assembly member is contesting to be a local government chairman within 2 years of not chopping politics money. This is to buttress ur point that once they taste public funds , there’s no going back. They will do everything possible to find their way back to the cookie jar .

Even a 4 year career at a top club generates more money than a career person would in 40years, stop playing. Footballers are just wasteful.
I think u are right and Raumdeuter is also not wrong.

Yes footballers are wasteful and they tend to spend the money the way it comes. I think the suddeness around how some of these sportsmen get to be to luxurious life suddenly despite not growing up in money may be responsible for such erratic behaviour. Some of them just see money and and they begin to think about the thousand and one things they can do with all that money.

Raumdeuter is right when he said sportsmen go broke easily because they have a short career window to make money which they are expected to spend for the rest of their lives. i,e make money within 15 year career and u are expected to spend the money for at least 20 or more years of your life.(This is assuming u start playing professional 18, u play for 15 years and retire 33 years after which u may live for another 27 years to clock 60)

In pension management , there is what they call Longevity Risk i.e. the risk that an individual will outlive his income. This risk almost always crystalize for sportsmen because their own retirement age comes earlier than every other profession and the person is expected to live on his accumulated income till death comes calling which may not happen for some people until 30 to 40 years after retirement .

https://www.nairaland.com/8428086/notice-removal-retraction-mr-bestman.uwadia
I think I get the reason behind this retraction notice.

Something tells me Sahara reporters in their article alleged the Uwadia person and the named company were complicit in the arms scandal but after several years there was no court pronouncement that confirms their culpability. The article was posted here and has since been cached on the internet.

I believe Sahara reporters had retracted the article but somehow a google search on the allegation always leads to Nairaland ; so they had to give our oga the option of either removing the article off nairaland or face a defamation suit since there's no how nairaland can prove the the content of the article is wrong.

I just hope our oga and nairaland get legal adviser because sooner or later , issues of this nature may lead to serious lawsuit in the future. Especially if it is involving foreign entities who have culture of suing first instead of asking for retraction.

The whole “it’s not for civil servant “ thingy is not that deep if u ask me. Someone selling exotic cars has his target audience and for sure his target audience are not civil servants if we are being truthful .

I don’t think any civil servant should feel down because of the guy’s adverts, except he or she has low self-esteem .

I mean why will I be pissed that someone is selling something I can’t afford ? 🤷‍♂️. Even people who earn way better than civil servants can’t afford most of the cars that Abuja guy sells ; so what’s the fuss ? It is different for athletes. Firstly, they have a shorter career lifespan making money especially for players like Emmanuel Thomas that didn't really make it big. Secondly, the part of the human brain responsible for decision making, planning, impulse control does not fully develop until about 25yrs of age, by which time half of the already short career of an average sportsman is gone.

Conversely, for professionals like doctors and lawyers most of their money is made when they are fully mature and their brain is developed. They can also make their money for decades and can possibly continue to increase their earnings as they get older. Currently I have 3 colleagues who started practicing before i was born and they are still making loads of money despite swimming in it already.

The chances a sportsman will pay for earlier financial or fiscal mistakes are far higher than those of a lawyer or doctor.

NNPC even mockingly invited him to come and see the refinery "working".

Fast forward to 6 months they are shutting down same refinery for "maintenance".

Na wa o. There is utter lack of transparency ; money just keeps getting pumped into the refineries without any visible result.

I think they need to swallow their pride and sell off the refineries to private investors once and for all.
