Education › Re: Are Polytechnics On Par With Universities? by Bluffly:
JARUSHUB:
There has been a historic and general discrimination against Nigerian polytechnic graduates, obviously to the disheartenment, discomfort and chagrin of these graduates. To judge if polytechnic graduates are on par with University graduates, one needs to understand the fundamental difference and aims between both types of institutions. Universities are degree-awarding institutions created by the Nigerian government to focus on research work and train students on the theoretical reasons and logic behind a certain field, they offer mainly non-vocational subjects. As a university graduate, you are usually a pseudo-scholar.

Polytechnics on the other hand are diploma-awarding institutions created by the Nigerian government to focus on practical application of the theories of respective fields and some of the courses offered are in vocational subjects. As a polytechnic graduate, you are usually a professional technician. Outside Nigeria, some polytechnics are known to be heavily involved in research work as well as practical application, but to the best of my knowledge, I think the Nigerian education system is structured differently and the “Universities of Technology” (like FUTO, FUTA etc.) cover these research spaces, not the Polytechnics. In Nigeria, entry into Polytechnics usually requires a lower academic standard than entry into Universities. Furthermore the end product of a Polytechnic education, a diploma, is inferior in value to the end product of a University education, an academic degree. As a matter of fact, in the UK, the highest diploma awarded in a Polytechnic, a HND, will allow the recipient register for the 2nd year of a 3 year degree. This clearly states that the value is short of a degree.

The reality is that scholarly work is intellectually more stretching than practical applications. All these do not mean that the Polytechnic graduate is necessarily inferior or irrelevant; it just means their avenue is not the pinnacle of academic challenge. Neither does it mean all university graduates are better academically than all Polytechnic graduates. As a matter of fact, many countries in Europe like Germany have a system that kind of blends the 2 format together, i.e. students learn both the theory and the application over many years. That is why unlike the UK where students graduate at around 21, in Germany, students graduate at 25 years plus.

In a sane society, which Nigeria is not one, both graduates have their importance in helping to develop the economy and would fit right into the economic system and the rampant stupidity of making polytechnic graduates feel less human would not exist. Yes, a university degree is superior but practical application is important, what the government needs to do is stop this stupid discrimination plus also provide an avenue for poly-graduates (that choose) to progress over many years, whether through classroom-based teaching or practical application, to qualify for a degree-level certification to put them on par with university graduates. All the discriminatory bar on Poly-graduates from progressing to the peak in civil service must cease and be banned.

http://www.jarushub.com/sagamite-are-polytechnics-on-par-with-universities/
What are you trying to say. Your own government is stupid but the governments that placed associate degree and Full (Hons) degree at different level are wise abi. The problem with you all is that you are not ready to respect the laws of your land. You did not cry that entry requirements be made equal, but you are crying that benefits should be equal. Even in UK, there were polytechnics, and most of them had to convert to a university by meeting all statutory requirements and not by what is obtainable in the labour market.

If you do not understand read up the history of UK which we directly emulated.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytechnic_(United_Kingdom)

https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/former-polytechnics-spread-their-wings/310328.article

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1558896/Former-polytechnics-not-in-top-50-universities.html

A polytechnic is a poly while a university is a uni and are statutorily not the same, they were not established by no of years spent but rather the law and if you spend 4 years in poly it was your choice not the government because after your OND you graduated and you have the choice of progressing to university but instead you went for HND which is just a higher diploma but not a degree.
Family › Re: How To Handle Husband That Eats Out When There's A Misunderstanding by Bluffly:
hotmum:
How do you handle a husband that after telling him his offenses to you, or when you have misunderstanding he keeps malice and starts eating outside.
I'm the type that can cry when explaining things so I sent him an SMS of what he did wrong.

Instead he kept malice and refused food.
I'm not the eating type and can't force myself to finish a pot of food. So this morning I asked if he would eat and he said No.
And later went out and has not come back.
Should I confront him about his eating out, and how?
From the above, you made it appear as if its just your husband that is the problem. Why did you avoid saying when you offend him and used the word "misunderstanding". So your own offence is misunderstanding while his own is simply offence. The way women always want to be pitied is something else.

I can only say something if I know the type of his offences, because sometimes women can just be something else. So give us at least 3 types of his offences that has made him eat outside even if we won't sanction the act of him eating outside.

Remember that the way you communicate could be a cause.

Listen, you Yorubas should stop talking nonsense. It is not possible to hold public officers accountable in a backward country like Nigeria. How do you hold a President or Governor, who has the power of immunity, accountable in Nigeria? How do you hold a local govt chairman who has all the money and apparatus of the local govt at his disposal, accountable in Nigeria? Not possible

The only way to hold politicians accountable in Nigeria is by the power of vites and votes rarely count in Nigeria. INEC is for sale and the elections in Nigeria are just a competition in rigging which is why it is very difficult to dislodge an incumbent. A good example of this is a Governor who won in all 21 local Governments of Anambra state by a wide margin, even local governments that were the strongholds of others. Clear case of rigging

Nigeria is a hopeless entity and thats why these peoole seek an independent nation anchored on checks and balances so they can finally hold leaders accountable. Thst one cannot be done in Nigeria
It is hopeless because most of you and your likes lack any form of idea. You are busy making a complacent statement and running away from responsibility. When you are ready you will start with the first and not the last.

As much as I support local production, I love to admit that it is impossible in a short time, and will probably remain low even in the the long run. This is because the use of foreign products in Nigeria is not because there are no Nigerian counterparts, it's just an inferior mentality that foreign are better.
The government itself has not been helping matters. It's about making policies only, it's by leading by example. We have Innoson motors, how many top government officials has purchased one of them? We have local rice in some states, I can bet some of their governors have never tasted them. All these will not encourage local production.

On the exchange rate issue, if we're to produce locally now, we'll either have to import some of the necessary inputs or process some of the outside the shores of the country. Due to the high exchange rate, at the end of production the prices of the products are almost equal with ones imported. I can bet even you will purchase the imported ones in this case. I met a guy last week who was advertising bow ties he made to me for N700. The imported one of the same quality costs about N1,300 with cufflings, and this small suit napkin. Which do you think I'll go for?

In a nutshell, you have spoken the truth, but the exchange rate matters a lot to a developing country.
Our perception and refusal to be world class through works is a major challenge as well. Nigerians sill have issues with some foreign products because they are not sure of the quality.
I want to believe that if it works for the foreign countries it will for us too, if we take absolutely safety measures in what we do. I'm sure that innoson motors has no Research & development and even if they have its just an office. Without showcasing of works and testing no one we believe a product and their will be no faith

Okay, no vex. 1 Dollar should be worth N5,000 very soon then.
Except we take charge of our lives through local production of items we will keep cosmecting the economy expecting the exchange rate to determine our future. When we have high exportation and less of imports exchange rate will drop as we will have dollar chasing our currency. Not this syringe injection that cannot last.

Here are more determining factors that are not far-fetched
Inflation Rates. Changes in market inflation cause changes in currency exchange rates. ...
Interest Rates. Changes in interest rate affect currency value and dollar exchange rate. ...

This 1976 Mercedes Benz 300D was spotted in Lagos. Surprisingly, everyone could not keep their eyes off it saying all they could remember about it..

It reminded some about that rich kid in their school who made them feel intimidated because their dad had a Benz. Some argued the car's nickname was Shagari while some said it was called Murtala (what name did you call it back then?)

The argument got more intense as some said the owner must have gotten it for more than N10m and some others said it shouldn't have been more than 200k.

Tell us how much you think these relatively old cars are worth like Dino Melaye's 1965 Benz 190 and Governor Fayose's 1957 Benz 220?

How much will you pay for them?

Let's hear your opinion in the comment section.

https://autojosh.com/1976-mercedes-benz/
It's not a modern car though vintage, but does not worth it for that amount
