INEC DELIBERATELY WITHHELD UPLOADING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RESULTS ON IREV – Lai Mohammed
INEC had come under fire over its inability to upload results immediately on its result viewing portal during the presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25 February.
The electoral commission, INEC, deliberately withheld the real-time upload of presidential election results from polling units, information minister Lai Mohammed said, according to a report by the government-owned News Agency of Nigeria.
Mr Mohammed said INEC’s decision to withhold the upload was because of a suspected cyberattack.
“INEC, suspecting cyberattack, withheld the uploading of the results in order to preserve the integrity of the data,” he said.
Mr Mohammed’s claim is, however, different from what INEC told Nigerians a day after the 25 February election. PREMIUM TIMES reported that the commission had told Nigerians that its failure to upload the results was due to technical glitches and not any form of sabotage or cyberattack.
“Consequently, the Commission wishes to assure Nigerians that the challenges are not due to any intrusion or sabotage of our systems, and that the IReV remains well-secured,” INEC spokesperson Festus Okoye said then.
The failure by INEC to upload the results of the election in real-time as it repeatedly promised Nigerians is one of the bases upon which two opposition candidates are challenging the results of the election, won by Bola Tinubu of the ruling party, APC.
Lai Mohammed’s Claim
Mr Mohammed gave the government’s position in Washington DC, United States, during his official engagements with some international media organisations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the minister is in Washington to engage with international media organisations and Think tanks on the just-concluded 2023 polls.
It also reports that the minister has so far engaged respectively with the “Washington Post”, Voice of America, Associated Press and Foreign Policy Magazine.
INEC had come under fire over its inability to upload results immediately on its Result Viewing portal during the presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25 February.
Mr Mohammed said the controversy was generated because of the inability of INEC to upload the results of the presidential election in real-time.
He said the controversy was unnecessary though it had been the fulcrum of the argument of the critics of the election.
He, however, said the conclusion by the opposition was based on ignorance of the role and functions of IREV.
He said IREV, a platform whereby election results at the polling level are uploaded, was not a tool for the collation of election results or to transmit results electronically.
Mr Mohammed explained that under Nigerian laws, the management of election results is manual and the court has ruled that INEC has the exclusive right to determine the mode of election, its collation and transmission.
“What happened on the 25th of February was that INEC observed that the results of the presidential election were not being viewed,” the minister said.
“INEC, suspecting cyberattack, withheld the uploading of the results in order to preserve the integrity of the data.
“It immediately proceeded to float an alternative platform while asking its technicians to investigate what happened to its original portal.”
Mr Mohammed explained further that it took up till 9 p.m. for the alternative portal to start working.
He said as soon as the original portal started working, the results were viewed from the two platforms.
No fewer than four out of the 18 political parties in Nigeria are currently challenging the results of the presidential election, alleging failure of INEC to upload them on its portal, IREV, and other irregularities.
INEC had on 1 March declared Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election.
Among the candidates challenging the results are Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. They have since filed their petitions at the Presidential Election Tribunal.
Speaking further on the upload of election results, the minister said “It is unfortunate that this is what the opposition are relying on to say the elections were rigged.
“So far, none of the political parties has come out to say that what is on Form EC8A is different from what was uploaded on IREV.”
Mr Mohammed said the allegations of fraud being bandied by the opposition and naysayers did not add up.
Speaking on delay in delivering election materials to certain areas, the minister said it was difficult in a country as diverse and complex as Nigeria for election materials to arrive at the same time everywhere.
He said with 176,846 polling units scattered all over the country with different topography, it would be difficult to deliver the materials simultaneously.
“In some areas, you need to use donkeys, human portals, boats to access some of these difficult areas.
“We also know the challenge of an unanticipated cash crunch that slowed down logistic movements.
“The redesigning of the naira did not help matters because some of the people who transported the materials insisted on cash payment which was not available,” he said.
Mr Mohammed said the police report identified pockets of violence scattered all over the country but they were not substantial enough to discredit the polls.
Quoting the police report, the minister said there were 489 cases of electoral infractions during the election and 781 electoral offenders that would be charged in court.
In his analysis of the report, the minister said it was a ratio of one infraction in over 300 polling units which was not sufficient to void the elections.
President Buhari has delivered on credible polls
Mr Mohammed said President Muhammadu Buhari has delivered on his pledge to leave behind a legacy of free, fair and credible elections in the conduct of 2023 polls.
He said in fulfilment of the president’s pledge to restore sanity to the electoral process, he resolved that he would not confer a special advantage on any political party, including the APC, his own party, during the election.
He said during the past elections, the president ensured that nobody used the security agencies to rig the election in his favour but created a level-playing ground for the elections to take place.
“A proof of this resolution is that the president’s party lost the presidential election in Katsina, his home state.
“Equally, the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, lost in his state, Lagos, while the Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Adamu, lost in Nasarawa State to the Labour Party.
“The Director-General of the Campaign Organisation of our party also lost to PDP in Plateau state.
“Nothing gives this election more credence than those facts because there was no rigging in states where our bigwigs come from,” he said.
The minister added that APC lost in the four states with the highest number of votes in the elections – Katsina, Kano, Kaduna and Lagos even when they were the ruling party’s controlled states.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yk6Sbxp5c8 I am of the opinion that KEGITE GROUP SHOULD BE BANNED IN UNIVERSITIES and polytechnics. Looking at the way a final year student was shot dead yesterday in the school Hall 3, the murder of KEGITE chief or Mayor is akin to the murder of a cult member, many NIGERIAN students have admitted that many KEGITE GROUP members are cultist who use the KEGITE as shield for their cult activities. The reason why KEGITE GROUP SHOULD BE BANNED 1) There's no KEGITE GROUP member that graduates with good result 2) There's no social impact from kegite group 3) There's no economic value from kegite group 4) most kegite group members are irresponsible and ill-mannered 5) There's always a stigma of waywardness and lawlessness associated with any kegite group member 6) Kegite group bring alot of distraction from students. 7) Kegite group in most Universities and polytechnics is a cult group, no matter how they package it to be
Based on the emboldened points.....
WHAT ARE THE GOOD RESULTS OF JOINING CASOR OR ROTARACT WHILE STILL ON CAMPUS.??
MostImportant: I have noticed that some Nigerians have a way of putting all the blames on politicians as the ones destroying the country when they themselves are equally contributing.
A fellow job seeker turned back and do evil to me for the good intention I had for him. I was only trying to be a human which of course I always try to be no matter how tight it is with me. Not as though I have but I would share the little i have when I see someone so in need.
I met this guy in an interview venue and we got talking based on job search experiences, how we got to hear about the very one we were at, about the company, tips we can use to perform better in the interview and all that.
I think we were more than 40 in that place and interview was based on first come, you pick a number based on your arrival time and wait to be called in.
So the guy went in first before me, and came out to meet me waiting. On coming out, I tried to ask him to hint me based on some questions asked inside. The interview was scheduled for 10am but it started way late, around to 12pm. So not long after which he came out, he started complaining of hunger. I told him I am hungry too, and truly nothing entered my mouth that morning, so I was seriously hungry too. From hunger, he brought in the issue of how he managed to get to the venue due to lack of transport fare. He then asked me if I can assist with any amount to pay his way back. To be very open with him, I removed the last N500 that was with me and showed him. I told him I am the same. We are all struggling as we don't have a job yet. In fact, why I have N500 in my pocket is because I woke up early enough to prepare which I partly trekked to the place just to save some expenses. Just because I saw frustration in him and the humanity in me won't let me be, I wanted to give him N150 from the money while I keep N350 for myself. From our conversation, my distance was even farer than his.
So I wanted to go out with him to go look for change but just then, it was my turn to go in for the interview. Already the money was in his hand, so he said I should go in for my interview while he goes out to look for change and come back. I thought I was dealing with a human being, not knowing I was making a mistake. Leaving him with the money was the mistake I made. I'm only human after all, and I have learnt my lesson but it won't stop me from being good.
To cut the story short, that guy ran away with my only N500. That was all that was with me in and out. I mean home and abroad, all with me was the N500. Account balance looks like a radio frequency - 87.9. Laughable. So nothing was reachable any where else but even after telling him, he still decided to pay me back with evil.
To think he is a job seeker and he still behave that way, I won't curse him even though he succeeded in making me trek for more than 2 hours, going home with an empty stomach.
May he reap whatever he sows. I'm sure he won't come back to the place even if he's called up for the job, which I doubt though. And I pray I am shortlisted for the job, to bring joy to me.
Although a sad one for me but I pity his life.
If the interviewers get to hear your story,, they won't give you the job.
You don't know the meaning of priority.
And to think that your soft-heartedness is a biigg weakness on you.
NwekeUG: A woman has recounted how Peter Obi intervened when she nearly missed her flight after waiting hours to board at the airport, IGBERETV reports.
Uchenna Idoko, the Executive Director of Centre for Gender Economics in Africa, wrote on Facebook;
onthehill: Nnamdi Chude, an ardent supporter of Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi has met with Chief Innocent Chukwuma - CEO of Innoson Vehicles, IGBERETV reports.
Sharing photo of their meeting on his Twitter handle, Chude wrote;
Recall that Chude was arrested for alleged defamation of character following a petition by a Nigerian oil magnate, Sir Emeka Offor, over a tweet he made on Monday, March 13, alleging that the President-Elect, Mr. Bola Tinubu, had contacted Sir Offor to plead with Mr. Peter Obi to accept what Chude tagged “a rigged result”. Chude later made an apology video to Sir Ofor after his release from detention.
Joey4321: Great point for accountability purposes.
Proper Taxing by the Government reduces irresponsibility, reckless spending, and acquiring of illegally gotten and untaxed and unexplainable wealth by the people..
Joey4321: How about kids that do not work or have an income
Kids with NINs should have dormant TINs generated and assigned to them, pending the time they have BVNs and Bank Accounts..
Any person who has a Bank Account would have the Generated TIN converted from “Dormant” status to “Active” status.
This serves for the payment of Sales-Tax, Luxury-Tax, and other consumer-taxes.
It would also make it easier to track the individual’s income growth, and have him/her captured and categorized properly for the payment of “Income-Tax”..
The SSS number in America serves both identification (NIN) and Tax (TIN) purposes.. But here in Nigeria, the functions were divided across different agencies, and both numbers were not even synchronized.
IT IS VERY NECESSARY FOR TIN TO BE GENERATED (ALBEIT DORMANT) FOR EVERY NIN GENERATED..
AND ALSO, FOR THE DORMANT TIN TO BE ACTIVATED IMMEDIATELY THE OWNER HAS A BVN AND AN ACTIVE BANK ACCOUNT TO HIS NAME.
Every individual needs to be paying tax, no matter who you are.
(And even if the government waives tax for the person, or that the person is living on the Government treasury, the person’s TIN should be known too..)
Some taxes needs the full particulars of the person paying it to be taken -- for instance; income-tax, vehicle-tax, luxury-tax, etc.. Thus, once the person submits his NIN and his TIN for the payment of such taxes, his income details and tax history would be made available.
Meaning of TIN: Taxpayer Identification Number. (A unique number which identifies every Tax-payer; whether an individual Tax-payer, or a registered business).
Meaning of NIN: National Identification Number. (A unique number which every individual in Nigeria must have, which clearly indicates whether the person is either a citizen or a legal resident of the country.)
Meaning of BVN: Bank Verification Number.(A unique number which every bank-account owner in Nigeria must have, which also serves to a unique identifier for the individual owner of the account -- or accounts -- across all banks in Nigeria.)
Thus, to break down the question in simple language..
Is it supposed to be mandatory and compulsory for every for everyone who has a NIN/BVN to automatically have a TIN generated and assigned to him/her too.??
I work in a lounge in sabo and i'm paid 11000 a month.I have served my boss faithfully and dilligently for months during the course of my stay in this shop despite being owed salary.Even when other workers left citing underpayment and workload,i still stayed. It happened that during governorship election season, our lounge was robbed. The robbers made away with 194,000 new naira notes my boss kept in his office. what was more shocking that the robbery was a clean one meaning the robbers had access to the key to his office. It's only me and my boss that have the keys so I was questioned and interrogated.I didn't know anything about it and so I said.I was beaten and bruised. Nobody believe me say i dey innocent
Police came and i was detained.i was in cell for 13 days(i hear am for cell God)before being released last week.I was rold the culprit has been found. It was my boss mistress and brother that planned it.How they knew about the money is what i don't know. According to Valentine Obieyem’s Facebook Post....
“... Obi versus Oyedepo: Too bad!
I heard they set up a Committee made up of some Communications experts, headed by our prodigal brother from Nnewi. They are reviewing all calls Obi made in the last three years, and especially now to see if he mentioned Interim Government or anything that will make them prosecute him for treason when and if they take over.
Till now, they are yet to see any. The badly doctored conservation with Bishop Oyedepo released by our Nnewi prodigal brother is the much they have discovered so far. They edited out the Muslim-Muslim ticket that led to the discussion, where Obi said that in a society like ours, religious balancing was a necessary consideration and that their recklessness had made Christians to assume it was a religious war. ...”
Femmyfamous4u: Hello all, I need to know if I'm doing some things right or over reacting.
My wife and I just married some months ago and we just spend here and there on stuffs. I bought food stuffs in the house and told her I will place her on 40k monthly to cover for soups and all and I expect her to add to it if it's not enough.
I foot all bills- house rent, Power, and all . She earns a decent 6 figures salary also which is slightly higher than mine without the allowances I get.
She expects me to still give her another allowance apart from the 49k I give her for food.
Each time she buys stuff in the house she always want me to pay back in full; most times, I just pay a part of it which she always frowns and complains about.
It appears she has a notion that her money is her money and mine is ours.
My income is more than hers though.
Do you think I should still give her personal pocket money?
She is not a housewife.. So, the personal allowance is for what exactly.??
It depends on the understanding between the two of you though..
But then, you need to find out two things right now...
Firstly.,, If anything happens to you, and your money stops coming-in totally, and you're helpless,, can she use her own income to keep the family going?
Secondly, if you finally leave the picture, would she rush to find another man who would continue to be the manly provider-figure in her life.??
