Dudu_Negro: can prof. chambers teach an igbo person the igbo culture and history?
Sure he could; I know of several Igbo here in the US who do not know much of about their people's culture or history.

Actually it means 'I will' in Igbo. It is spoken more in southern igbo areas where the bulk of the slaves (huh) came from. Co-incidentally it is also spoken and used the same way by african americans!
I am/I will.. same difference. grin Yeah, it is actually the only word I can think of in which was carried on. I think it's do to it's similarity to "I'ma", common shortened version of "I'm gonna".

Yet you classify all Yoruba girls as such? I doubt you've even met more than 30 since you want to claim African American married to an Igbo lady on NL
You're correct, I did mistakenly state my point with a a broad stroke upon all Yoruba females. That was a mistake, I meant to say many act as such. You claim I've never met more than 30 Yoruba? cheesy I personally know at least 3 times that amount, and have met tens of times as many as that. smiley

Kind of explains alot. I've read the book as well and half of some of your belief concerning Igbo tend to imitate some of his words in the book.
Well that is because what you label as my "beliefs" are not simply my beliefs but rather facts of the matter, and I believe in the facts.

Dudu_Negro: murder at mont pelier does not answer the questions we ask .

in fact it supports what i said that there is a new search around the globe to give meaning to an erstwhile meaningless greatness.

writers look for income, there are many writers probing around africa for unwritten stories to pen in hope of getting movie deals. they care nothing about the truthfullness.

look in that banner of mont pelier with spellong for igbo. white man would have spelled it as "ibo" and not igbo. so there is some influence on the. story. its authenticity has to corroborated with precedence here in africa.

the slaves knew who was who based on tribe. a wolof would not know ibo but an ibo would know about wolof. songhay, ashanti, oyo, bini, kanem.....none of these people knew about ibo. it was the coming of white man that we now know about ibo. there is oral and written documentation in yoruba history where bini, zazzau, sokoto, yauri, bida, .....all these places were narrated but no mention of ibo or any part of ibo land. ibo was not known. this is very important!

the importance of it has consequences in the slave social heierachy. only those from great tribes were nominated to lead mutinies and revolts and speak on behalf of the rest........

in the presense of a wolof, mandingo, ashanti, hausa, yoruba, bini, kanem slave, ibo slave has no authority to speak much more lead a revolt.

i am surprised that ibo has not claimed kunta kinte on attribute of his rebellion and bravery. it is also shocking that they have not claimed the mutiny on amistad as an ibo slave rebellion, quite shovking! grin
None of that makes any sense. You need some sleep ace, cause you've just posted up a bunch of nonsensical tired azz babble.

Crayola1: I'll just leave this here:

https://i43.tower.com/images/mm113348671/murder-montpelier-igbo-africans-in-virginia-douglas-b-chambers-paperback-cover-art.jpg

In 1732 Ambrose Madison, grandfather of the future president, languished for weeks in a sickbed then died. The death, soon after his arrival on the plantation, bore hallmarks of what planters assumed to be traditional African medicine. African slaves were suspected of poisoning their master.

For Montpelier, his estate, and for Virginia, this was a watershed moment. Murder at Montpelier: Igbo Africans in Virginia examines the consequences of Madison's death and the ways in which this event shaped both white slaveholding society and the surrounding slave culture.

At Montpelier, now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and open to the public, Igbo slaves under the directions of white overseers had been felling trees, clearing land, and planting tobacco and other crops for five years before Madison arrived. This deadly initial encounter between American colonial master and African slave community irrevocably changed both whites and blacks.

This book explores the many broader meanings of this suspected murder and its aftermath. It weaves together a series of transformations that followed, such as the negotiation of master-slave relations, the transformation of Igbo culture in the New World, and the social memory of a particular slave community. For the first time, the book presents the larger history of the slave community at James Madison's Montpelier-over the five generations from the 1720s through the 1850s and beyond. Murder at Montpelier: Igbo Africans in Virginia revises many assumptions about how Africans survived enslavement, the middle passage, and grueling labor as chattel in North America. The importance of Igbo among the colonial slave population makes this work a controversial reappraisal of how Africans made themselves "African Americans" in Virginia.

Douglas B. Chambers is a professor in the history department at the University of Southern Mississippi.

From the Publisher
-- The story of the poisoning of President James Madison's grandfather and the solidarity of a slave community's traditions
-- Involves a murder mystery with President James Madison's grandfather, witch doctors, and poisoning via traditional Igbo medicinal techniques

-- Reveals a fatal first encounter between colonial master and slave population in the New World

-- Connects written records and suppositions with established archaeology and ethnography of the Igbo

-- Demonstrates the strength of Igbo influence throughout Virginia

-- Traces the ways in which Igbo Africans became African Americans

Obiagu1: What many fail to realise is that before the Americans realise the need to make the bold statement: All men are created equal, that practice was already in Igboland.

No one taught us democracy, we are one of the oldest democracies in the world and believe that all men are created equal.
So it will be till the end of time. We seek to subjugate no one but believe in open and fair competition.
Aro priest, funded and lead gangs of slave catchers into Igbo land to invade and capture Igbo slaves. Their lack of unity as a single solid group, or in other words, their democratic individualistic nature made such an effort rather easy for the Aro, who hired primarily Efik, Kalabari and Delta groups to do their bidding. Members of these groups, happily aided in that many of them hated the Igbo who they looked upon much like the Germans did the Jews during the reign of the Nazi party, in regard to the fact of that even at that time the Igbo had strong holding on these coastal people's economic standings, and they wanted them out.

Envy, lead to hatred, hatred lead to persecution, and the help of the Wealthy Aro, localized petty persecution lead to outright war and mass kidnapping within Igbo land via the invading coastal groups who were well armed by the Aro who received guns and other European weapons in exchange for loads of their captives in which were primarily Igbo, but also some of their allies such as the Ibibio. By the end of it all, about 2 Mill Igbo were captured and sold off to the Europeans and Americans and Aro became filthy rich, before many ended up leaving the region to settle in other areas of west Africa as a means to escape reprisals.

PoliticsRe: Shoprite Enters Anambra As Obi Lays Foundation For $30m Mall by Blyss: 4:54am On Feb 10, 2013
billante: South African retail chain, Shoprite has entered Anambra State in South East, Nigeria as it moves to open for business in many parts of the state, beginning with Onitsha, the state’s commercial capital.

Anambra is the fourth state Shoprite is opening shop in after Lagos, Kwara and Enugu.

Peter Obi, the Anambra State governor, laid the foundation in Onitsha recently for the construction of the shopping mall that is estimated to cost about $30 million.

The mall which will be sitting on 15,000 squares of land will be located beside the Onitsha Hotel and Convention Centre with enough space for the level of commercial activities the mall will expectedly attract.

Shoprite is expected to serve as the anchor tenant in the mall.

The project, according to a source close to the state government, is a joint venture between African Capital Alliance, a private equity firm, and the state government under the public private partnership (PPP) arrangement.

Governor Obi explained that the project was in line with his commitment to the transformation of Anambra State, which, according to him, included returning Onitsha to its past glory as the number one commercial city in Nigeria, hosting the biggest market in West Africa.

The Governor promised to provide facilities to boost activities in the area, including dualisation of Park Road, the entrance into the complex.

Obi said that the foundation for two of such malls would also be laid in Awka and Nnewi.

Mrs.Chima:
Blyss...do you have comprehension issueshuh Please take your time reading my response.

My comment still remains.
My reading comprehension is superb, and so are my teaching skills, so allow me to school you on your error real quick.

the question was this: "Are Bla K Americans Really The Strongest Black Force In The World?"

Your answer was this: "Let me answer the question for you base on MY perspective...Blacks period ARE NOT the strongest force in the world. Yes, I said it! Blacks period ARE NOT the strongest force in the world. Many of them too busy worrying about dumb poo like who is pure Black and who's cultures better than who's cultures."

Clearly your answer was not in line with the line of the question asked. So I replied to your answer with this: "You misunderstood the question. The question was asking if BA are the strongest BLACK FORCE in the world, and not if they were the strongest force period.", so to inform you of your error. You acted in error again, by bringing to question my reading comprehension, while obviously failing to comprehend the fact of that my statement was comprehensively calling to question your very present non-comprehension of the question asked. So now I have compromised your comprehension of a believed presence of a lacking in reading comprehension on my part, comprende? undecided

Mrs.Chima:
Didn't you supposedly married a Nigerian chickhuh What is the difference between a Nigerian woman and a Nigerian manhuh

I will wait.
You can't be serious with this question. First of all you know as well as I do that it is EXTREMELY unlikely that an African woman who's married would be over here in the US without her husband being here as well, and keeping close tabs on her. Secondly, women are more sentimental, and thus foreign women are much more likely than their male counterparts to look for and settled down with a male citizen who they actually desire to settled down with for a genuine lasting married life.

Multiple times more African males, especially Nigerian males.. are involved in and are thrown out of this nation for being involved in "Green Card Marriages", some of which involve payments to the fakes spouse for the service, and even more in which involved them conning some silly girl into thinking they actually wanted a lasting genuine relationship with them.. and then they bounce when they get their citizenship, or busted. cheesy

All of the immigrant African females I've known over the years who'm married American citizens are/were in genuine long lasting relationships with their partners, while only about 1/4 of their male counterparts I can same the same of. cheesy The simple facts are that it's no where near as much of a gamble for a American male to marry an African female as it is for an American female to marry an African male; statistics back this up. If you've found a genuine honest one, then good for you for beating the odds.
