Foreign AffairsRe: UPDATE ON Mali-french Troops Take Back Key Mali Town From Militants by Blyss:
karl max: West African states meet again on Mali crisis

CNN) - The number of French troops in Mali could top 2,500, France's defense minister said Saturday as West African leaders discussed plans for additional forces to help battle militants in the north.

There are about 2,000 French troops in Mali so far, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told CNN affiliate France 3.

The number of boots on the ground is a top priority as West African states met Saturday in the Ivory Coast capital of Abidjan.

At the gathering, the leaders were to discuss ways to speed up deployment of African troops to help their French counterparts push out the Islamist militants.

The regional bloc -- the Economic Community Of West African States -- has said it has 3,300 regional troops on standby.

France intervened in Mali about a week ago after militants started advancing toward the capital, forcing world leaders to fast-track decisions on intervention.

French and Malian forces retook the key town of Konna from militants Friday, a French source said.

Militants said they had seized Konna on January 10, which prompted France to start its offensive over fears that fighters were inching toward the capital.

The fighting in Mali has captured the world's attention.

It was one of the most successful democracies in Africa until last year when a coup toppled the president and Islamists capitalized on the chaos and established themselves in the north.

Nigeria should match France's numbers in Mali, considering that most of the smaller nations forces that'll be contributing will be virtually worthless in this war effort. Ghana, Chad and Senegal will be the only dependable forces in which will be of any help to Nigeria and France, the rest will be pretty much filler forces. Do to this, Nigeria needs to send a number large enough, to make up for the lack of effective support that'll be coming from the other nations. One perfect case in point to this necessity, is the photo of the Benin or Togo forces arriving in Mali; they looked as though they were going on vacation, half of them weren't even paying their commander any mind as he attempted to talk to them while half of them chatted away on their cell phones. cheesy

Nigeria would be a fool to depend on these people to back them up while in battle, they need to cover their own azz, by bringing in at least 2500 troops, cause they're gonna certainly need them. Half way into this conflict most of the smaller contributing nations will end up pulling out, they are too small to be involved in such a international conflict, they lack the stamina, money, training and supplies to go much longer than a few months in such a situation as this.

Humm, so Nigeria doesn't have a national emergency response number, like 911 here in the US? huh All you have to do here is dial 911 and an emergency dispatcher will answer the phone, you tell her your emergency issue, give her your location or general location and they'll dispatch the appropriate emergency services in your area to your location to help you.

obo_man: Is Ak-47 really the best Assault Rifle on this planet? I have always thought the M-16 has the edge in Military Combat...

Kudos to our Soldiers, male and female. Brave and selfless.. You shall all safely return..
Based on a study done by weapons specialist in conjunction with the History Channel, the M16 in general with special focus on the A4 version is the best all around firearm ever accompanied with it's M4-A1 shortened cousin, but it's very expensive. The Ak came in 3rd place, it lost a lot of points to it's lack of accuracy, heavy weight, poor framework, but gained high marks for its simplicity, high power, low cost and longevity. But overall it was pretty much compared to a dinosaur in respect to the grade of rifles in which now permeate the market.

If it wasn't for the fact of that it's mass manufactured all over the world, making it rather dirt cheap compared to other weapons in it's class, and the fact of that it's childs play to maintain and operate (many children around the world actually do use this weapon) it wouldn't of even made the top 10 in the rankings, in which factored in all aspects of a weapons benefits and not just its primary killing/combat effectiveness to which it'll be totally outclassed by most of the newer weapons on the market today.

esere826: Ok, go on and fight
but what's in it for Nigeria?
don't tell me that its simply to weaken Boko Haram (Libya provides a crucial link thanks to NATO)
dont tell me its simply to help our brother nation (remember South Africa's ingratitude)

After fighting Mali's war, we have to station our troops permanently there, and influence their government
We need to sell made in Nigeria Innoson cars to them; they need to buy our Chivita and Dangote juice;
our own glo telecom needs to be given government backed monopoly there
We need to ensure that the powers of their central bank stops being domiciled in France, but intstead is domiciled in one of our banks
The loot of their leaders must not go to Swiss or French banks. They should send their loot to Zenith bank

we need to ensure that we send our own university graduates as expatriates to construct roads in Mali
Our intellectuals need to be given consultancy work in their development agencies
The kids of their top shots need to school in our universities
the parents should be directed to our own Calaber for their resort

Their top shots need to made to buy holiday homes in Nigeria
Their young girls need to fall over for our men and get impregnated sharp sharp (as some of our ghirls fall over for oyibo)

Na so countries dey take rich
.....This is the way the West does it, and it is marvelous in my sight
I totally agree with this. If Nigeria ever wants to be among the big boys, it has to start playing like the big boys. No longer should they fight in other nations, and then simply leave to allow the western corporations to come in and set up shop.

optimistic7250: Agreed, that was a very ignorant statement. "Do I have an African American accent and am I ghetto". I am still waiting on someone to give me an answer to my question. Any African women out there who might have treated an African American woman this way, want to explain why? Can you be honest with yourself?
I think you already know the answer to your question, but I can understand you wanting to hear it strait from the horses mouth. Do a search on this site and you'd find that you are not the first AA sister to brings this very same topic up; I've been on this site for a long time and I can certify that this topic has been brought up at least 5 times by various other AA women in the past. smiley If they don't give you an answer all you have to do is look up those other threads covering this issue; some are full of answers, and most of those answers I can assure you of that you will not like them. For the most part, it stems a major difference in mindset of the relationship between you and them.

To you and many other AA sisters, there's this concept of genuine sisterhood between all black women that floats around in your heads, while with most African women, they think on a more insular level. They are very "tribal" in mindset. They think you've stolen one of their guys; you are perceived as a threat/competition for their guys whom seem to bee flocking to AA women like hotcakes. cheesy

Ok, I was on Youtube looking through last years season of the X-factor because I watch like the first couple of shows and then stopped, but in those first couple of shows I remember one young very beauty young sista named Diamond white being on there, and just flooring me with her life story, big voice, young age of only 13yo, and beautiful features. So I wanted to go back and check to see how well she did in the remaining shows as well as check out some of the other top talents, and was amazed to find out that this fantastic young vocalist only made it through to the 5th round. shocked I watch the hole season on youtube, and the only one who came close to her overall performance was that young white girl Carly, who actually ended up winning. THAT'S BULLSHIAT!! Strait up. Did anybody else watch this season and agrees with me? I mean this girl was freaking AMAZING!! I was later happy to hear that she was eventually picked up by a top label, and is in the studio cutting an album, because it'll be a shame to allow a dynamic raw talent aka Diamond in the ruff get away.

Also you've claimed that no Somali was ever a slave, which I find highly unlikely, though if true I could actual see the reasoning in such being the case, which is the simple fact of that on a physical basis the average Somali would make a horrible slave, and an utter waste of time and money. But none-the-less, I'd like your answer to this in which I've stumbled across; it may disprove your claim, and prove that the Arabs may of just been desperate enough to actually take a worthless Somali as a slave. Pickings must of been slim by this point in time. cheesy

CultureRe: WHY DID YOUR PEOPLE SELL SLAVES TO WHITES? by Blyss: 9:31pm On Jan 16, 2013
PhysicsQED: Benin was already making frequent war on its neighbors when the Europeans showed up. That's what they (the European writers) said. How can they have been making war on their neighbors without any substantial "wealth and power"?

Also, archeological finds (some of the art work) at Owo from the 15th century show that Benin's influence had already spread northward before European contact, confirming the traditions recorded about Oba Ewuare's expansion of Benin's power in his time.

In addition, the kingdom restricted its sale of slaves in the early 16th century (early 1500s) heavily after only a few decades of contact with the Portuguese, after which point the kingdom ceased to be a significant source of slaves. The slave trade was not significant at any time afterward, and throughout the kingdom's history it was never a really major factor as there was lots of other trade (in cloth, pepper, ivory, palm oil etc.) that was carried on with neighboring groups and with Europeans. Even the plan of a French trader, a certain captain Landolphe, to buy 3000 slaves a year from the Benin and Itsekiri areas in the late 1700s, completely fell apart and was never realized - even though it could easily have been during that period (when Benin was not in decline, and was actually doing better) if Benin was so interested in the slave trade at that point. See the article "The Slave Trade, Depopulation and Human Sacrifice in Benin History" by James Graham for an overview of Benin's minor involvement with the African-European slave trade over the course of its history.

And the claim about keeping large amounts of slaves within Benin and refusing to sell them also comes from European visitors who made that observation. I doubt that that practice could have applied to all people within Benin at all times, but you should know that it is a statement that was confirmed by actual witnesses from those times.
Nice and rather accurate, but it doesn't dispute the fact of the matter in which I was addressing. StarFlux stated "So Edo people wouldn't even sell slaves which they had captured in war, yet alone their own people. And there are many more who refused", and my response was simply disproving that statement.

I am married to a Tuareg not to a White Caucasian.
Then why in the hell did you say that you're married to a Caucasian? Tuareg's are not Caucasian. Caucasian is a racial reference for people whom descend from the Caucasus Mountain region. The Tuareg do not descend from that region.
CultureRe: WHY DID YOUR PEOPLE SELL SLAVES TO WHITES? by Blyss: 8:02pm On Jan 16, 2013
StarFlux: Somalia9 not knowing his history as always. I do wonder why you aren't banned yet.

Many refused to sell slaves, but I don't expect someone as yourself to know this. I have heard it before, but don't quite remember it in Edo, but there was a saying something similar to this: "what kind of deprivation will make an Edo chief sell his slaves". So Edo people wouldn't even sell slaves which they had captured in war, yet alone their own people. And there are many more who refused.

As amusing as it may be for you, Somalia9, the trolling isn't very funny. Especially for some that may not understand what you're doing, and ends up wasting time on you.
Well actually the Benin Kingdom was a notorious source of slaves for the Europeans. It wasn't till the Atlantic Slave trade that the Kingdom actually obtained it's most substantial level of wealth and power with in it's whole 1000 year history.
